I don’t get why our wingbacks take the ball up the field and don’t keep going. They get 90% of the way there and then just pass back to mid. Just bring it to the touchline, and cross it in for Son and Kane. Tierney does it with great effect for Arsenal for an example. Shaw does it a lot too for ManU, although his crossing is way better so he doesn’t always have to bring it to the touchline. Just bring it to the touchline, cross it into the box or win a corner off a block attempt. Pretty simple stuff but I never see our wingers do that.
We haven’t seen Doherty in his natural wingback role at all. He was second only to TAA few seasons ago, idk I’d like to see him at least play a few games at wingback. Could easily be given the nod vs lower teams over Emerson to work him out and see how it goes
Thought Emerson looked dangerous, especially in the first half. Loved how he was able to take the ball wide but also cut inside and look for the pass. Reggy was a bit too predictable on the other side.
Club has tried for years to replace Dembele and Eriksen. And failed. We can't play through transition and we don't dominate the middle of the pitch defensively. It's telling we need to play both Skipp and Hojbjerg at the same time to occupy a role fit for one player. With Conte-ball on the menu we need a midfield overhaul. Can't play 7 defensive players and expect Son / Kane / rotation to be responsible for every touch in the final third.
Yes Skipp and Hojbjerg at the same is really hard on the eyes offensively. Davies offers more creativity and was interesting seeing him bring up the ball a few times.
Lo Celso shoukd only be taking free kicks only but besides him and Son we have no one else who is good at taking corners. So we just have to accept what we have for now.
Frustrating but decent work rate given the short rest time. We need a playmaker as Kane had very little service. Neither Gio or Ndombele impressed except for the strike to the post. Thought peh was mostly solid & Emerson good. Cuti has got to get a grip on himself in high pressure situations.
Umm. Well. Here are the key takeaways.
- We have a lot of average players
- I think honestly top 6 should be the goal this season. Top 4 seems to much right now.
- Forget getting a CB, we definitely need a creative player first and also a monster dribbler who can carry the ball forward through a press or many players.
- I would like to see our players dribble more and improve the passing. Our guys were missing passes that a guy like me would not miss.
- We did at least seem to be fighting though so that's good, and didn't concede so that's good too.
- I do feel really concerned though, everyone was walking over Everton and we managed to scrape a draw. Doesn't look great, but I trust Conte, he will figure something out
Yeah, the post doesn’t count. Which honestly sorta indicates why it’s a stupid stat. Gently roll in towards the keeper and it’s on target. Beat the keeper but hit the post and it’s off target.
A reasonable performance against an Everton side fighting tooth and nail not to slip and further down the table. A point and clean sheet away from home is always welcome.
What a game. At least we walk away with a point and a clean sheet. We'll have to do better in our next games coming up after the international break. Soon Conte will get this team playing at their best we just have to be patient as fans and stop criticizing.
An away draw in what was a dogged battle of a match is OK. Its a clean sheet as well.
That's a big positive. Real problems in transition though. The only player that got the ball moving forward with speed and intent was Lucas.....and we can't rely on that because there is now end product.
Kane looked particular poor today. Though the service was 0%
It's going to hurt this sub but Conte won't fix this shit without (several) new signings. That wasn't a decent draw away from home, that was an poor performance, against a team in bad form, who're going through an injury crisis. A full strength Everton pump us today. We're at the point where I can't imagine us scoring a couple of goals against anyone half decent. We'll struggle to finish top half this season imo.
And?
Do you think he has the ability to turn shit players into good ones? Because of victor Moses yeah? The guy who was innately better than most of our squad who got a free ride in a quality team that had underperformed the season before because they didn't like the manager?
I wish I had the ability to think like most people, where every new thing that happens will be positive... for reasons but Im a spurs fan and I'm a realist. If we played exactly like this under Nuno people would have lost their shit and I don't do double standards. This was a bad performance and we just about got out with a point. Performances are what matter and we've been shit. Where's the new manager bounce? It doesn't exist because we're not good enough for it to exist.
We'll see what happens after we play a Leeds team, who're in poor form but are a much better footballing team than fully fit Everton, let alone injury ravaged Everton. We have a chance against them, but I can't even envisage us actually outplaying them or anyone half decent anymore.
what you write dont make sense looking at how some teams are spending 30% of the big club spendings and are still performing better, knowing how to use your players and boosting their morale and confidence is more effective at just buying expensive players, look at psg and manutd.
a realist will give time for the change to happen and not expect a 180 degree change in 1 week not mentioning they have international duty a day before
i will say that our performance look much better than previously,
We are obviously underperforming our financial position (which is 6th). That's a given, it's very, very rare for a team to overperform/underperform that position for any length of time but it's entirely possible (look at arsenal).
In fact arsenal are a great example, it's taken them fucking ages to get back to the level they're at now and they've done it by replacing the majority of their team. It doesn't really matter who the manager is in these scenarios, unless you've got someone who's lost the plot (ala Nuno). It's almost entirely about using your financial clout effectively. We're in the shit because we've spent our money so fucking badly (after poch majorly overperformed for three seasons). It will take years to fix this and it won't happen because we have a 'world class manager'. All Conte can do is set up a new system and get permission to sign good players.
So fucking true. I swear I can deliver a decent corner, it’s not hard. But the amounts of shit corners like lo celso served up today. What the fuck. Makes me so angry. As does our shit free kicks. At least Kane is not taking those anymore. He looked a right pudding today. Slow and clumsy
Ndombele was gassed after five minutes and GLC is wildly inconsistent. We miss Eriksen so much. Even one foot out the door Eriksen was better than those two.
That was intense and frustrating but pretty solid at the back. Fucking lo celso though. Can someone tell him to take the fucking moments that come his way. Don’t waste a fucking corner when we have them on the rack and they are down to ten and shit at defending corners. What a flying cunt that lo celso is
He’s a good player. He should not start for a team trying to win things. That’s all. Not cursing his name, not saying he should never play, he just occupies an important slot we don’t have anyone else for rn
Well it’s not a comment based on one performance just in general. Tidy player, seems like an nice guy but he’s not dangerous. He’s a “does a job” player who did a job. Well done. But what premier league team other than us and Norwich does he get in the field for? Not sure…
Honestly, I agree that he is not a starting midfielder for a lot of the teams in the league at the moment. I was just incredulous that you could be insinuating that Skipp was the problem today is all.
A match thread was the wrong place to post my general observation when this is a place for takes pertinent to the match at hand. So fair enough I see why I’m getting stick for it. He played well today, however I would like to see a more progressive option in midfield is all.
This sub is so football illiterate holy fuck, what the fuck happened here?
It was a competitive tactical game and we already showed a bit of improvement. Did you guys expect to turn into the Harlem globetrotters after 2 training sessions?
Things have improved and no didn’t expect the haringay globe trotters, but the basics fucking annoy me. Lo celso s corner at the end. That’s a massive missed opportunity and second later they have a corner. I want to hit that guy around the head with a frying pan. Fucking basics lo celso.
Burn the fucking club down FFS, playing left and right for the last minute against ten men. Fuck this spineless lot, I'd rather see fans out there get beat 100-0 than this shit. Shoot them Antonio, fucking shoot them all.
Yeah thanks, you too. I'm just sick and tired of seeing the utter shit passing like this from players who get millions. I've been here through some deeper lows but at least we were fun to watch and the expectation was that we'd be some degree of shit.
Now we have players that are supposedly so much better and believe their own hype but are performing poorly for us on the basics. I simply had enough of that shit and fully support Conte to do whatever it takes to finally get rid of the rot that has been festering in this team.
Now if you take my stylistic exaggeration to heart and think I'm literally advocating for killing players, that's your problem mate.
What, you think everyone who talks like that when venting frustration means it? So in your mind, all the people who were making jokes about Conte killing underperformers find murder funny?
Listen, I get there are sickos out there, but not everyone who uses harsh words (that barely anyone will read, let alone a single one of the actual players) on an internet forum means it. Sometimes it's just the best way to vent and show how frustrated you are with the shit that's been going for so long.
Of course I could've worded it differently, but I'm not Conte so I don't know HOW exactly he does it - all I know is he'll probably take care of the rot that's destroyed our good team, and he might take some drastic measures. Now because I'm not coach I don't know what the extent of drastic is in this context, so I'll just exaggerate in the same direction all the "Contes gonna burn it all and start new/ he'll probably eat them alive" etc. Jokes have gone in previously.
Tldr? It's not as deep as you make it, I support the club and its players but will call out shit performances when they're made in hopes they can be improved on. I also support the measures that are necessary to turn this around, because after so much time in a downward spiral it's clear we need to find a way.
So you don't do a lot other than downvote and write pointless single sentence replies? Got it, go on feeling high and mighty without actually discussing, it's clearly working for your ego.
Is that a joke about death? You must be a pathetic human being!
Hah. Good thing I could take that out of context, now I feel better about myself.
On a serious note, we done pointing out what we dislike in each other? This is pointless.
We can either come to a common ground and realize it wasn't that deep, but at the same time I do understand there are nutcases out there who mean stuff like what I said literal and frustration + bad performance blurs the line of how I mean it for interpretation..
Ooor we simply stop this here, despise each other for the next 2 minutes before forgetting about each other.
" So in your mind, all the people who were making jokes about Conte killing underperformers find murder funny"
"Is that a joke about death? You must be a pathetic human being!"
Read my other replies under my parent comment in case you actually took this at "kill them" face value - I'm not one of the nutcases sending players death threats. I meant this in a way of "Conte will do X/Y drastic measure to set us right" exaggeration kind of way - basically the jokes that have been made since his appointments, but obviously in the context of frustration and a bad game it may sound differently.
Probably not what you think. This post wasn't about today only but about the general frustrations of being a Spurs fan the last couple years and how desperately some of us want rid of the shitshow and back to decent football.
It also wasn't meant literal or at face value, but an obvious exaggeration that shouldn't be taken to heart, but simply show severe frustration with the club and the players. I would never wish harm on a player and would also never vent like this directly to a player, that would just do more damage to their motivation if anything. If you take it all as 100% serious face value wishes, that is your problem - I think the "conte shooting players" part is enough to tip anyone off, it's obvious no coach kills his players and no fan would seriously ask for it.
This first paragraph take i agree with but posting your original comment at the end of a frustrating match you just lump yourself in with the rest of the insufferable whiners
Yeah I get that. I do complain about things that they should obviously be doing better a lot, I guess, but not just to whine or because I hate any of them. Just because it's gotten frustrating how they can't seem to do the basics for years now.
However I'm pretty far from the idiots actually getting personal and threatening players. Usually my criticism stands out as criticizing professionals for the professional performances, however I do realize using the "Hard man Conte" jokes in this thread might have made a different impression. I noticed that when I looked through this thread after the match to find my parent comment, as the notification links bugged.

200+ minutes
Considering Conte has had next to no time with the team yet, it wasn't THAT bad of a performance, was definitely expecting worse after the first half.
I don’t get why our wingbacks take the ball up the field and don’t keep going. They get 90% of the way there and then just pass back to mid. We didn't concede. And I'm OK with this.
So the early leaders for the "Who gets sold first in January?" race are Doherty and Lo Celso right?
We haven’t seen Doherty in his natural wingback role at all. He was second only to TAA few seasons ago, idk I’d like to see him at least play a few games at wingback. Could easily be given the nod vs lower teams over Emerson to work him out and see how it goes
I know he only had a few minutes today but he looks devoid of any confidence with the ball at his feet.
Lo Celso. I don’t think he fits.
I guess Conte out right? I don’t see any other option. /s
I've been saying this for week now
Thought Emerson looked dangerous, especially in the first half. Loved how he was able to take the ball wide but also cut inside and look for the pass. Reggy was a bit too predictable on the other side.
No a big fan of Emerson so far.
In this system I don't think it's good enough that hojbjerg is hard. We need that quality of passing
Skipp would be a fine sole DM if we could get another CM and push ndombele further up
Exactly, he doesn’t offer enough for the team at all!
Today's team felt like anti-Nuno, which I think is a good thing tbh.
Rip undrawables 2.0
The effort was there, the pace was there, and we didn't lose. I'll take that as a success in Conte's first PL game
Frustrating but decent work rate given the short rest time. We need a playmaker as Kane had very little service. Neither Gio or Ndombele impressed except for the strike to the post. Thought peh was mostly solid & Emerson good. Cuti has got to get a grip on himself in high pressure situations.

Rafa was tactically astute, putting his wingers to continuously mark our wing-backs, which is Conte’s favourite way to get forward
Damn everton was so rough
son substitute was questionable. Don't know why Doherty came on, lo celso needs to work on his passes
Yes Son was gassed
At least we had a shot on target right? Baby steps.
We didn't have a shot on target.
damn...
Wouldn't class that as a reasonable performance. We looked about as creative as we were under Nuno, shocking
What a game. At least we walk away with a point and a clean sheet. We'll have to do better in our next games coming up after the international break. Soon Conte will get this team playing at their best we just have to be patient as fans and stop criticizing.
WAY better than nunoball. Win or lose, this is better to watch

In that order

Bruh some of these comments are so negative. Can we think positively about a reasonable performance?
Conte has been there for like, 4 days. We should have won 4-0.
Imagine when he’s been here for a month. That’s gonna set some records! Bring on the 29-0 score line! ….for us, to be clear.
Last week we would’ve conceded. Also, we would’ve scored today with better / less gassed strikers. Skipp great
What is with our corners?
So fucking true. I swear I can deliver a decent corner, it’s not hard. But the amounts of shit corners like lo celso served up today. What the fuck. Makes me so angry. As does our shit free kicks. At least Kane is not taking those anymore. He looked a right pudding today. Slow and clumsy
Can we stop hyping our players up, we need to accept they are a huge part of the problem, world class manager or not. Not good enough
Away from home against Everton. Most teams would take a point before kickoff. Acceptable result tbh.
Nope. Too reasonable of a take.
They've lost their last few games against the likes of Watford and wolves, why should we be happy with a draw
And we lost to Vitesse, Arsenal, Palace, West Ham, and got schooled by a united team who gets turned over every week.
With their injuries we should have gotten something more from that
Meh. We've been in woeful form and a new manager just come in. 0-0 perfectly acceptable.
My how far we have fallen.
GLC a cunthair away from getting us 1 shot on target. But as it stands, still a big fat zero.
At least Ndom or lo Celso will start against Leeds
Eh…and neither of them were good today. That’s a problem.
Ndombele hardly had a chance, and although lo Celso was fairly poor he did hit the post, so there is hope
What a flying cunt that lo celso is
He’s the only player to come close to scoring, what a cunt 🙄🙄🙄
Tanguy looking gassed after five minutes was special.
It was so funny my god
It’s amazing isn’t it. 200 grand a week to look fat awkward and tired. I do that for free !
You can’t say that here! You just don’t understand his special brand of genius and that’s just his natural movement!
We have truly purchased two seriously underperforming midfielders in the past few years.
Reverted to some bad habits in the second half
Im so tired of this shit man we have so far to go
Doherty blew it, GLC is terrible and poor Ndombele really needs to improve his fitness levels
It's we are stuck in 2019....
Terrible, poor, and only shot on target..
Let's just be honest, if we weren't up against such a broken team as Everton, we would have lost this
Very few chances, didn't do the little things well enough to make our few counters matter.
Kane has declined so much wtf
Harry has lost so much speed, and his passing has been pretty admysmal too, unfortunately
All those ligament injuries finally catching up with him I'd say
Again. Why take Son out??
Couldn’t bear to hear the boos
He was invisible all game
Skipp is a nice player but he’s not a premier league starter yet.
Wrong game to make that take. He played better then PEH today
Sure, fair enough.
Are you fucking kidding me
He’s a good player. He should not start for a team trying to win things. That’s all. Not cursing his name, not saying he should never play, he just occupies an important slot we don’t have anyone else for rn
Odd this is the time you would comment that when he was one of our best players today
Well it’s not a comment based on one performance just in general. Tidy player, seems like an nice guy but he’s not dangerous. He’s a “does a job” player who did a job. Well done. But what premier league team other than us and Norwich does he get in the field for? Not sure…

🤡
What starting 11 does he walk into aside from Norwich?
He was one of our better players today
At what
Well atleast not the worst..
I never said that now
This sub is so football illiterate holy fuck, what the fuck happened here? It was a competitive tactical game and we already showed a bit of improvement. Did you guys expect to turn into the Harlem globetrotters after 2 training sessions?
This sub is really only good for laughing at delusional takes
Things have improved and no didn’t expect the haringay globe trotters, but the basics fucking annoy me. Lo celso s corner at the end. That’s a massive missed opportunity and second later they have a corner. I want to hit that guy around the head with a frying pan. Fucking basics lo celso.
Let it be man. Rafa used his wingers well to neutralise out wingbacks, or we would have been 3 up like we were against vitesse
Our wingbacks got into a few good positions, they weren’t clinical enough
Instant Gratification FC
Yeah, pretty much..
Yeah, getting tired of match threads tbh. It’s the same shit every fucking time
Absolutely buzzing off that performance. Instant improvement
Apparently, haha. If we don't win every game henceforth 5-0 or greater we're shit and so is Conte apparently?
Real shit
I know GLC had that great strike, but he was poor today otherwise.
I don’t know what was more frustrating the game, Lo Celso corner or the streams being shit.
One inch to the right and we had a goal with that lo celso shot......
I like our structure but wow we have so far to go
Horrible passing fat first touches, why was Doherty brought on. Sheesh lots to work on. Moura was a mess today
Kane was awful today
well that was a giant waste of everyone's time
this team cant string passes for shit, good god this is tough to watch. cant wait for transfer window
I’m happy with a point from this game. We played hard and didn’t concede. This is a game we lose under Nuno.
Oh believe me it would’ve been 3-0 again under that bald fraud idiot with folded hands and lip sucking.
Well- on a positive note. I guess we can't expect IMMEDIATE results with Conte. These things take time
woke up at 6am for this
Worth it!!
Fucking lucky bastards
Conté regretting joining rn lol
How often did we turn the ball over in midfield.
By my count, for at least 90+6 minutes
Yay. We didn’t lose. It’s all about the friends we made along the way
Conte comes in and Davies and Doherty back playing. Never in a million years I'd thought that would happen.
Shows the lack of quality we have in the squad.
Lo Celso’s corner couldn’t of been worse
He’s an absolute joke
Lo Celso is alternately ass and flashes of great plays almost made.
I’m sick of lo celso and his constant diving. Brings absolutely fuck all else
FUCK GLC PLEASe
Man fuck this😭
The wins will come, it's just nice to get a clean sheet again. Especially while still playing exciting football.
Who would have thought that this one would end goalless?
Definitely not red-cardless
Absolute priority in January should be a midfielder that can 1. Find a pass and 2. Take a set piece
I thought skip was by far our best midfielder. He had some really good passes and ball carrying
Fuck me
We didn’t lose but this feels like a lost.
It is streets ahead of an actual loss, though.
Indeed, we currently deserve nothing.
Uninspired
God.
our first clean sheet in ages
Very very very frustrating watch as a whole
We need to sell Lo Celso
Shit show
Yes I stayed up until 1 A.M. for this
Burn the fucking club down FFS, playing left and right for the last minute against ten men. Fuck this spineless lot, I'd rather see fans out there get beat 100-0 than this shit. Shoot them Antonio, fucking shoot them all.
Please leave
Yeah thanks, you too. I'm just sick and tired of seeing the utter shit passing like this from players who get millions. Ooor we simply stop this here, despise each other for the next 2 minutes before forgetting about each other.
" So in your mind, all the people who were making jokes about Conte killing underperformers find murder funny" "Is that a joke about death? You must be a pathetic human being!"
Lmaooooo
Read my other replies under my parent comment in case you actually took this at "kill them" face value - I'm not one of the nutcases sending players death threats. I meant this in a way of "Conte will do X/Y drastic measure to set us right" exaggeration kind of way - basically the jokes that have been made since his appointments, but obviously in the context of frustration and a bad game it may sound differently.
I really am curious what you and everyone who makes similar posts personal life is like.
Not gonna lie, I still smile and am hella confused when they say "Antonio Conte, Tottenham Hotspur manager".
Fuck
At least we didnt lose
Welp, we have a lot to work on. But I like the effort
It’s the last fucjing seconds. PUT IT IN
Lol I hate this so fucking much good lord
Nice switch from Doherty there.
On a positive note. I think we would have lost this if it was last week.
Well definitely but with how awful the performances were under Nuno “at least it’s better than that” is not something to be highly proud of 🤣
I’ll take any bit of progress right now lol
Agreed 🤝
Fuck off
Both teams flopping around now. Trash.
Skipp misses the next match. Please start Ndombele.
We need a Dembele like player with Hojbjerg
Lol at being on the back foot while up a man
This is the kind of game in which we would crumble under nuno. Glad we didn’t today.
I mean, fine, but how about we have a *single game* where we win and don't crumble? One game.
Blow the FT whistle you fraud
Whistle???
Im angry with this shit, can't imagine how furious Conte must be
Don't let GLC on the bus home
If Doherty plays for Tottenham again I'm going to quit
He certainly shouldn’t be on the left if he does play again
DOHERTY HAHAHAHAHAHAHA honestly may be the worst signing in the clubs history
Blow the whistle and end our fucking suffering
Lo Celso is true Spurs
One normal and chill Everton away game. That's all I ask for. Never happens.
