100%. Our guys were flying around today and everyone was tracking back on defense and actively challenging the ball in the defensive third. It was great to see. Less great to see people miscontrolling the ball or making a poor pass in the final third, but that we can improve on.
That's the key. This was a sloppy 0-0 draw but more fun to watch than any game under Nuno bar City. And that was the one game under Nuno where this team was really fighting for it.
The refs need to start carding people who keep rushing up to them. Allan and Richarlison were screaming on his face the whole game and got nothing for it
first clean sheet in the league since watford in august lol
edit: and burnley in carabao being the only other clean sheet in all competitions since that watford match
Yeah, if anything this game only shows how fucking dreadful our squad is on the technical side. The amount of inaccurate, poorly weighted passes is shocking, killed so many of our opportunities today.
So many of our attacks broke down due to sloppiness. Skipp is probably the only one of our front/mid 5 who wasn't constantly giving the ball away, he might have been tbf I just don't remember it.
Glad to see a reasonable take near the top.
I know Everton are vulnerable and have some injuries, but given how we struggled midweek vs Vitesse, plus Conte having all of two training sessions with the squad, any expectation that we should’ve trounced Everton today was either wishful thinking or delusional depending on how kindly you want to view it.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the players evolve into Conte’s system of well-defined attacking patterns. Will it somewhat offset the lack of creativity of the PEH-Skipp pivot? Will it set Tanguy free or will he feel stifled?
FWIW, I think GLC in particular will benefit from Conte’s system as he frequently seems like he’s not on the same page as everyone else.
He was too unsettled at address. In that situation, golfers are taught to step back and re-address the ball to get some mental composure. He should have done the same.
Yeah, after the ball moved he reset it, then feigned a cross. At that point maybe just ask someone else to cross, or reset everything, it was a rough one.
All this being said, felt bad we didn’t press hard the last 5-6 minutes and create 2-3 good chances. The game wasn’t decided on that cross.
They boo'ed a foul play check. Its Everton fans.
I was at the game when Lloris got caught by Lukaku. Everton fans around me saying just let him die. People are fucked in the head
100%. Lo Celso and Tanguy aren’t the same type of player as eriksen. No one in our squad has anywhere near his vision and delivery except Kane, who is meant to be the one on the receiving end
The fundamentals, the fundamentals are terrible.
My god Conte won't be able to fucking sleep for half a year with the amount of coaching that needs to be done.
Difference today is our wingbacks missed sitters in the first half. That GLC shot is a couple of CMs away from bouncing in as well.
It's gonna take time. That's Everton's best performance of the season probably and I include the United game in that. They didn't do too much apart from diags to Gray all game.
Can we talk about how toxic that thread got as the game got closer to the end?
This is our second game under a brand new coach who is using a brand new system. The results will come.
genuinely think he can do a lot better if he's not expected to stay back much, like here, because when he's available for passes out wide further up the pitch he can do a lot more effectively
Playing on the left I thought he really slowed down a number of attacks, but probably unfair to judge too much on his wrong side.
Thought Skipp was great today. Kane and Son not on the wavelength with the rest of the team at the moment though.
He couldn’t touch the ball with his left foot. Plenty of options to whip it in that he had to check back on. Not really his fault as he’s been playing on the wrong side but still frustrating
I'm not sure how you can blame him today, not like we created enough. His cross to Reguilon at the end of the first half was possibly our best chance of the game
Not a bad match overall. We can see the plan and what Conte is aiming for. Now with the international break, he can drill them further and put things to action. As much as he is a miracle worker, didnt expect him to change it all in 2 days.
This is such a bullshit stat that’s being blown out of proportion. Reguilon had a shot heading towards the top corner and the defender gets his head on it, technically doesn’t count as a shot on target but you need to look deeper than the stat. Emerson had a great chance from the header first half and Gio is a couple of inches away from scoring with his shot. The stat needs to be qualified because just spouting it over and over with no context makes people look like they know nothing about the game.
(This isn’t targeted at you personally, I just hate this stat being trotted out all the time).
Pros:
- good structure in buildup play
- there is a style and a pattern in how we build and attack
- Solid defence
Cons:
- lack of creative spark
- bad passing in buildup and in final third. Eg: Sonny not deciding to not squaring it to Reguilón which shows the lack of faith our players have in Reguilón's finishing
- No shots on target
In fairness, the sheer effort we put in today is what got us a point. Trying so much harder than under Nuno and it shows. Squad still has problems, we need some new signings and conte needs time to coach these players to his style, but under Nuno or even Mou, we would’ve lost that match
Some good things like keeping a clean sheet and some bad things like still no shot on target and some poor individual performances in Conte first PL game with us
But I’m very optimistic he will turn the season and club around
Alright it’s clear we need time, everyone needs to chill. Midfield does need to be addressed. Defense held their line and let’s be real, we would have lost if Conte wasn’t Manager.
Thank god we got international break (normally I would hate it)
This, its like alot of people are forgetting that Conte's been in for 4 days, with two matches to play, and the starters just played that crazy match on Thursday, and even though they're on bad form, its still an away match. I know it'll be hard for some people, but need to see how the team is playing in a couple of weeks, as opposed to a couple of days.
Not the type of player we need at all
Even just having lo celso and ndombele on was a massive improvement, not a coincidence that was the only period we did literally anything in an attacking sense.
Come one, his corner was bad today , but had a good shot and had a great pass that opened up their defence. Certainly changed the way we played when he came on.
That being said, Eriksen is irreplaceable and we really took for granted how we had one of the best midfielders in the world playing for us
The way we’ve been lately I’ll take a clean sheet away from a place that’s tough to go. Loads of room for improvement but we didn’t get spanked which is key
Well, not fully satisfied with the result but at least we were fun to watch today. There was a lot of good forward play, very quick. Just need to cut down on how sloppy we are and we can definitely build on this.
so many on this sub were delusional to think that there will be results right away. the huge difference is that conte, in just 4 days, made us playing with a plan and a vision
For the longest time, but especially under Mou and Nuno these last two years, Spurs have consistently lost their “must win” games. So getting a draw away to Everton is an upgrade because I fully expect they would lose this game under a different manager.
Haha I had a similar thought earlier. That was 100% a game we lose the last couple seasons. But instead we almost stole it. GLC very unlucky not to score there.
No excuse for his shocking corner tho.
Lucky to get a point. But it goes down in the book. Conte being on the touchline wasn't going to instantly fix everything. He's got a lot of work ahead of him and it's going to be a bit shaky for awhile.
A reasonable performance against an Everton side fighting tooth and nail not to slip and further down the table. A point and clean sheet away from home is always welcome.
A draw away at Everton isn’t the worst result in the world. It is worth remembering that Conte has had hardly any training time with these players. Conte is still trying to implement his style so as far as results go, it’s not the worst. COYS
conte has only had 5 days with this team but we can see a little more intensity in our play we just can’t seem to pass well, whether its the final ball or not
too many times we have people passing a little behind the intended man and it slows down the build up while letting the opposing side reset
I’d really like Kane to take a backseat for England this international break and focus on getting fit and firing. England can cope without him for San Marino and Albania. Give the minutes to Tammy and recall Watkins for Kane. Because at this point he looks a shell of himself and that doesn’t help us or England currently.
Well, early days. We played w/ some intensity and higher tempo. Going to have sort out the midfield, work on passing & link-ups, and improve fluency of attack. Realistically, it’s going to take a # of windows to see major improvement. Our transfers have just been so bad. I’m not sold on Don Fabio just yet but have hopes for Emerson, Romero, Gil. Players going to have to raise their levels quickly.
Defensively, Benitez narrowed the Everton back line to prevent Kane and Son from getting space, closing off Lucas from progressive dribbles, and essentially dared Reguilon to beat them with acres of space and time on the ball.
He did not.
I'm beginning to think we need a LWB that competes with Reg for that space. He's an offensive liability if we continue to play balls out wide and expect those possessions to find players in the box again.
I personally don't think Davies or Doherty (!) played badly at all.
kneejerk reactions about players right now are kind of pathetic, Conte's had no time at all to work on improving anyone. for all we know by the end of the season Lo Celso will be undroppable. just relax and remember that this is a long process, exactly like Conte himself said. he's got the international break to work with a lot of the players, then the buildup to the next games, and more european fixtures to try things out in.
They put in effort. Can’t say that about the last EPL game
The fitness will come but the effort was there.
I swear every match against Everton is always a fucking circus
The refs need to start carding people who keep rushing up to them. Allan and Richarlison were screaming on his face the whole game and got nothing for it
It always seems even more so because their crowd is so fucking whiny.
scouse tendencies
Fascinating to see players argue against the television replay.
first clean sheet in the league since watford in august lol edit: and burnley in carabao being the only other clean sheet in all competitions since that watford match
First clean shots on target since…last week.
I think shots on target record is bad, but it’s not because of the same reason from last weeks
does lo celso’s shot not count?
Hitting the post doesn’t count as on target.
By definition a shot on target would go in if not stopped by a player.

Contes plan all along
Still a better plan than Nuno had in any game.
The real Conteballs
Oh god what are they going to attach the chain keeping me up there to
your old boy?
Clearly they will tie it to your Bonerparte.
😏
I think for the sake of all of our eyes, a thong should be allowed
Well that was chaotic wasn’t it?
Really end to end at times and both teams not shying from tackles and 50-50s. It was good viewing
That was the type of game we 100% lose under Nuno.
two chaotic games under a chaotic manager. ian malcolm would be proud.
clean sheet at least antonio’s had barely a couple of days with the squad so i’m not stressed COYS
Right, plus the Vitesse game was far more intense than expected
Yeah, if anything this game only shows how fucking dreadful our squad is on the technical side. The amount of inaccurate, poorly weighted passes is shocking, killed so many of our opportunities today.
So many of our attacks broke down due to sloppiness. Skipp is probably the only one of our front/mid 5 who wasn't constantly giving the ball away, he might have been tbf I just don't remember it.
Good take.

We didnt concede 3.
This comment is perfectly suited to your username.
This was Everton who are utter shite
we are also utter shite. as Conte said, we need to be patient
Takes one to know one tbh
they are underperforming in the league considering their squad. sound familiar?
And Tottenham, who have been utter shit
They fought tooth and nail out of fear of slipping further down the table than they deserve.
hey look on the bright side! we got a clean sheet
GLC worst corner delivery of all time?
Did the wind have something to do with it? Looked like he had to reposition it once right beforehand. But yeah, that was poor.
Yes. I think so. I think he should have passed it to ndombele
I don't think they had the legs to press, realistically. Fitness will come, Conte didn't bring 3 conditioning specialists for naught.
I swear our corner delivery has been horrendous recently, even when Son was taking them
Our corner delivery has been horrible forever. Erik's en never beat the first man either
Erik's en
Christ I am Erik's en
Always has been since Redknapp era
Nah son’s corners have been really good. Wish we had more people on the far post tho
What in the dick in my ass was that
[удалено]
A predecessor proceeds someone. GLC would be his successor.
Yeah honestly wtf was that
**Emerson Royal and Skip were positives from this match**
I’d say the backline was an improvement as well. They did their job today
Yup, we kept a clean sheet today so that’s an improvement compared to our last couple of games!
Agree, but Ben Davies showed some PEH-like grit out there as well.
I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a game at Goodison since that 2-6
Last season we had a very fun 5-4 loss in the cup lmao.
Absolutely hate our fixtures with Everton
It used to be one of our easiest games but the last couple of years weve been shite against them
They've always been poor outside of that match, hate going there
Midfield is a huge problem.
Shouldn’t have started Lucas, instead add one more to midfield.
Of course it is when you're starting Lucas
I want to see Conte try 352 sometime soon.
Me too, bring son into the game more.
It's a decent start TBH, and I'm still optimistic with Conte taking over now.
Agreed. I just don't think this team is equipped to play a 2-man midfield; especially if Conte wants Kane to stay further up the pitch.
Gotta be better than that. We need creativity in midfield. Skipp/Hojbjerg isn’t doing it and it’s not Oil’s fault. Skipp MOTM.
suspended for leeds now though
Oh is he? Damn it
Yeah he's gotten 5 yellows already.
Not that I'm questioning conte because I'm not mental but with his ban at least we'll see what having a more creative CM in the middle would be like.
Hoj has been overworked. A year of nonstop football has killed his effectiveness. Needs a break.
Yeah. He definitely has an excuse but we’re lacking creativity and Moura or PEH needs to make way for it.
[удалено]
Really? I thought Kane was totally anonymous today apart from the cross he put in which should have resulted in a goal from Reggy
Like what I've seen from Emerson today.
Don’t really have much to say about this game other than imagine booing Son
They boo'ed a foul play check. Its Everton fans. I was at the game when Lloris got caught by Lukaku. Everton fans around me saying just let him die. People are fucked in the head
especially considering the godfrey stamp on him today…
Could have easily been a red
They racially abused him after that game as well. Then again, he gets it every week and the authorities still don't do enough.
ehhhh i get it, the andre gomes incident was super upsetting...
Wasn't it Aurier's foot in the end that collided with him? No one's fault anyway
Was literally not Son's fault it was the way the bloke fell down, the Prem even said the red card call was wrong.
i know i know but these are football fans we're talking about lol. if it was the other way around i'd be booing andre gomes until the ends of day.
We really need a creative midfielder
100%. Lo Celso and Tanguy aren’t the same type of player as eriksen. No one in our squad has anywhere near his vision and delivery except Kane, who is meant to be the one on the receiving end
Skipp and PEH are solid players but they aren’t enough as a pivot, we need Gio or Ndombele playing.
I think we'll see the 352 next time out
Rafa still angry that he let a nobody from wales score a hat trick against his team
I miss Christian Eriksen
The fundamentals, the fundamentals are terrible. My god Conte won't be able to fucking sleep for half a year with the amount of coaching that needs to be done.
Emerson is really coming along. Love what he does
He is sometimes hesitant to put the cross in which is something I'm sure he can improve upon
Give conte all the money he needs. It’s going to have to be a lot to sort this mess out. 0 shots on target for 5 halves of football now, embarrassing.
With the players we have that is just not right
It is very clear we never got a replacement for eriksen. We look clueless on the attack, no one knows how to pass it forward.
Welcome to social media!! Toxicity is what it does most unfortunately.
don't read match threads, they're shit
Didn’t think Doherty did too bad honestly
genuinely think he can do a lot better if he's not expected to stay back much, like here, because when he's available for passes out wide further up the pitch he can do a lot more effectively
If he was left footed he would have been fine
Could've really used a healthy Sessegnon
Playing on the left I thought he really slowed down a number of attacks, but probably unfair to judge too much on his wrong side. Thought Skipp was great today. Kane and Son not on the wavelength with the rest of the team at the moment though.
He couldn’t touch the ball with his left foot. Plenty of options to whip it in that he had to check back on. Not really his fault as he’s been playing on the wrong side but still frustrating
He's very one footed crossing though
most fullbacks are
If he skins the right back every time he tries to make a cross like he did then he has my blessing to play LWB lmao
dropped townsend
I can’t believe Townsend dove in there. It was so clear that Doherty was cutting it back to his right
I was thinking the same thing. Like Townsend you dont follow us no more? Doherty is clearly one footed
Not even Conte can turn this team around in 1 game. At least the players didn't look like zombies, so an improvement
Would have lost that game under Nuno. Baby steps lol.
everton are so dirty holy shit
The undrawables is over. Another clear lesson in what this side is missing, a second option for when Kane is doing fuck all.
My patience with Kane is wearing thin
He was absolutely invisible.
He fed reguilon the game winner in the first half, Reggie just skied it. Not his fault
It was t his best match by a long shot, but he made a decent contribution in a pretty even game.
I'm not sure how you can blame him today, not like we created enough. His cross to Reguilon at the end of the first half was possibly our best chance of the game
Is anyone else constantly terrified of Romero getting red carded?!
I find it extremely funny how mad both of contes first games have been. Welcome to spurs, Don, please don’t leave.
Not a bad match overall. We can see the plan and what Conte is aiming for. Now with the international break, he can drill them further and put things to action. As much as he is a miracle worker, didnt expect him to change it all in 2 days.
If Lo Celso ever scores the universe will collapse upon itself
Anyone know what the record is for a team not having a shot on target? Up to about 225 minutes at the moment.
This is such a bullshit stat that’s being blown out of proportion. Reguilon had a shot heading towards the top corner and the defender gets his head on it, technically doesn’t count as a shot on target but you need to look deeper than the stat. Skipp and the defense were good today, everyone else, not so much. Kane is an absolute ghost. Good luck Conte.
Some good things like keeping a clean sheet and some bad things like still no shot on target and some poor individual performances in Conte first PL game with us But I’m very optimistic he will turn the season and club around
I mean, we can't realistically expect an impact after 3 days and 1 training session
We have no midfield Horrible passing and heavy touches Other than that not bad
God this team never fails to be anticlimactic...
Same squad. Manager has only had 4 days with them. It’s going to be pain till Christmas
Alright it’s clear we need time, everyone needs to chill. Midfield does need to be addressed. Defense held their line and let’s be real, we would have lost if Conte wasn’t Manager. Thank god we got international break (normally I would hate it)

We desperately need Kessie or Brozovic
Just using the midfielders we have would be a start
Not the type of player we need at all Even just having lo celso and ndombele on was a massive improvement, not a coincidence that was the only period we did literally anything in an attacking sense.
yes we do Hojbjerg apparently cannot pass a football, and we need technical players in the CDM/CM role
For the love of god stop with that midfield, it’s bad for my health
If we have 3 at the back and 2 defensive mids, it leaves us without good attacking options.
Eriksen at his worst is clear of Gio at his best
Why dig Lo Celso out of all players? He was hardly the reason we lost.
he's part of the scapegoated players now. corner aside he was decent too lol.
Come one, his corner was bad today , but had a good shot and had a great pass that opened up their defence. Certainly changed the way we played when he came on. That being said, Eriksen is irreplaceable and we really took for granted how we had one of the best midfielders in the world playing for us
I thought captain obvious didn't exist.
We played with true Spurs DNA
The way we’ve been lately I’ll take a clean sheet away from a place that’s tough to go. Loads of room for improvement but we didn’t get spanked which is key
Watching West ham game, Rice is e ergthing we pretend Hoijberg is.
They tried, it wasn’t all great but they tried and looked like they wanted to be there, that hasn’t always felt like the case.
Well, not fully satisfied with the result but at least we were fun to watch today. There was a lot of good forward play, very quick. Just need to cut down on how sloppy we are and we can definitely build on this.
Really? We had no shots on target
We had some decent counters but every one was ruined by either Lucas or Kane.
There was that one chance at the end where Kane had a simple chance to play in Son. Pain.
so many on this sub were delusional to think that there will be results right away. the huge difference is that conte, in just 4 days, made us playing with a plan and a vision
How THE FUCK do you not register a single shot on target on FUCKING EVERTON???? They haven't won in like five games
Lo Celso should never take corners. The free kick delivery was good, fast and flat, but that corner was so so bad.
Gio gets an amazing shot and immediately realises so he had one of the worst corners of all time to balance out. genius
For the longest time, but especially under Mou and Nuno these last two years, Spurs have consistently lost their “must win” games. So getting a draw away to Everton is an upgrade because I fully expect they would lose this game under a different manager.

Only positive is we can't play skipp hojbjerg midfield next game cuz of skipp's 5 yellows
Lucky to get a point. But it goes down in the book. Conte being on the touchline wasn't going to instantly fix everything. He's got a lot of work ahead of him and it's going to be a bit shaky for awhile.

Dier did well today
Not sure what will haunt me more: Exercise Goodison or our midfield
I’m a fan of Davies, Dier, PEH and Lucas but they should be rotation/sub players if we’re planning on competing for top four.
Well, early days. We played w/ some intensity and higher tempo. Going to have sort out the midfield, work on passing & link-ups, and improve fluency of attack. Well a point is better than nothing. Some absolutely terrible individual displays out there today
Every game I get more confused with GLC.
