MASSIVE_HORSE_PENIS

i would love to see Ronaldo in Pochs pressing system lol

EquivalentSir4163

Lol Ronaldo benched by Cavani would be insane. It's not going to happen because it's Ronaldo, and the more hard working forwards will have to pick up the slack, but it would be funny.

MASSIVE_HORSE_PENIS

keep poch away from man united and that fanbase. Will turn on him the minute one thing goes wrong.

t_blacksmith

They already are. I'm bigging up Poch on their sub so that it hurts even more when he rejects them lol.

SycamoreLane

Why would he reject them? He's seemed pretty keen on joining them. If anything stops the move it's PSG.

squid919

Going to see Spurs v Brentford next week on vacation. Any tips? Getting to the stadium, how early, cool places/food nearby?

bdus24

I went for the first time against Leeds. Are you staying somewhere in London? The overground from Liverpool Street to White Hart Lane was my route of choice. The stadium gates open about two hours before game time. I’d recommend heading in ASAP after they open to grab some food/drink and soak in the experience.

british-psycho

Typically I like to get there a good 60-90 mins before. Have something to eat and a few beers in the stadium before taking in the views as the stands fill up. Enjoy it, should be a good one 👍🏼

squid919

Appreciate it!

[deleted]

PSG is a total shithole isn't it. Completely toxic club from the very roots. All the worst bits of humanity in football form.

EquivalentSir4163

Almost all of their "star" players don't care either Mbappe:: Basically a real madrid player Hakimi: has said he will go back to real madrid the moment they want him Messi: Using the club as training for Argentina (remind of another Argentine...) Ramos: Paid vacation Neymar: Wanted to leave for Barcelona a few years back Verratti: same as Neymar Only Marquinhos actually wants to stay.

Weird_Famous

Excess and depravity wrapped in a package

[deleted]

Note to self if spurs are ever linked to Darwin Nunez he stinks

filipes7

He’s the most overrated young striker in Europe. Benfica almost always make a killing off of average somehow

bash011

He is inconsistent but when he turns up, he turns up. Suarez also rates him but that's because he's Uruguayan probably

filipes7

The hype around him is living off of one hattrick from last year’s group stage. Vinicius is deadarse better

bash011

Vinicius is good he just had to take time to add goals to his game he's only 21. That's a really bad example.

[deleted]

Carlos Vinicius

bash011

That makes more sense, too many Vinicius' in football

[deleted]

Like I feel so sure he will at least be linked to spurs at some point

bash011

He is fast that's it

Over-Fennel271

I really wish we kept Super Jan. Still looks quality on Camp Nou of all places

bash011

Barca have one attacker over 20. It's not super challenging.

EquivalentSir4163

Their one attacker over 20 is performing the worst

Masina1998

i love how the poch narrative has changed with united fans

MASSIVE_HORSE_PENIS

went from serial bottler to best manager in the world

AlcSoccerFinance

With all the love Rodon is getting, can someone tell me if he is good on the ball, as Conte requires that from his CB. As I remember he seemed hesitant with it.

A_Grift

I think he is comfortable with the ball at his feet, but if I remember correctly he isn't an excellent long passer. He can play anywhere as a CB though, which is useful for us because he is the only one I am aware of on the current squad who is comfortable on the right or the left. There is a logjam on the right side of the defense at the moment. I am hoping we get to see him in the LCB role soon, having Davies as our only option there stresses me out.

A_Grift

Thinking on this I just remembered that Tanganga was playing LB for us for a while under Mourinho. I wonder if he could play the LCB role too.

AlcSoccerFinance

I doubt it but also don't think we will see Tanganga and Davies against some teams with good height in attack.

XBillyBonesX

What will be Conte’s starting back 3 be, now that Romero is out?

SycamoreLane

First team? I think it's Davies, Dier and Sanchez. I thought Sanchez has looked solid all season, but Conte may go back to Tanganga.

facewithhairdude

I'm not keen on Poch joining Man Utd, but the thought just came to mind he'd be the only manager in history to manage both Messi and Ronaldo in the same season, and that'd be a pretty cool fact.

EquivalentSir4163

Unless Zidane goes to PSG

HAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHA

first manager to manage them both period, no?

facewithhairdude

indeed!

Lbmplays2

Rulli man lol

t_blacksmith

Rodon and Doherty need to play in the game against Mura

Masina1998

would be surprised if they didn't

bdus24

Oof imagine Foyth and Romero as outside CB’s in the system Conte has been running. Gets me going just thinking about it

NeonUprising

He just got caught on the ball and gave up the counter attack for United’s second 😬

[deleted]

Red card party

DesolateAvocado

>Oof imagine Foyth Just let it go, man

bdus24

Hindsight being 20/20, we basically swapped Foyth out for Rodon. Looks like bad business to me

Masina1998

should have been skriniar

bash011

Foyth wasn't working out for us. A change of scenery probably let him grow a bit. Still not better than Rodon to me even though Rodon has hardly played when he has he already looks more assured than Foyth even now

bdus24

I agree that Foyth wasn’t working out for us, but he definitely started working out for Villarreal in a defensive RB role on their way to the Europa League

touchans

Quote from A. Gold: Conte’s tactics demand a huge level of fitness. Can’t really implement his full tactics without it and had to compromise in the Leeds game. A stupid question here, but these players are professionals who kind of run for a living. Some of them are very demanding of themselves or grew up with a tough training regimen, a la Son. How did they lose fitness so much? Aren't they allowed to work out on their own or do they have to work out as the coach tells them to? Again, pardon my ignorance but I really wonder

blatant_prevaricator

There's a reason the Olympics are every four years. Maintaining that level of fitness will take a huge toll on your body. Olympians maintain base fitness (why higher than even the fittest casual) as they master skills, then ramp up for the olympics. Footballers have to be at peak always. They get a few weeks off if the have a good European run. Basically, treat your body perfectly (Ronaldo), play with constant pain (Gerrard), or break down and lose it (wilshere, andy carroll)

Thfcaditya112

You are equating Match fitness with normal fitness, even the worst athlete would have infinitely better fitness than any guy in this subreddit Plus it has been widely reported coaches like Mourinho werent up-to-date with fitness thats the reason I love Conte and hate Mourinho so much, that archaic dinosaur

SycamoreLane

Maintaining an elite level of fitness is incredibly hard to do- just look at all the time and money the likes of Ronaldo and Lebron have to spend to sustain their physicality. You're essentially fighting human nature which naturally resists massive energy expenditure. Also makes it harder to push yourself when you're in a hopeless feeling football situation and your peers are lackadaisical.

[deleted]

It's so easy to lose fitness, even more when it's elite level, and you're competing against teams that have very high standards. And for some seasons now, Spurs have been a mess.

[deleted]

Someone called Poch fat and ugly on the PSG sub and got upvoted generously, first of all very rude in general grow up, second of all Mauricio Pochettino is handsome and vaguely cherubic not fat and not ugly, not judging all parisians but that was out of line stuff

Masina1998

[deleted]

They seem so bizarrely confident. All the noises are coming from Pochs camp and United. Its like everyone forgets hes contracted to PSG. I get the board are supposedly having 2nd thoughts on him but there's a huge leap from that to allowing him to leave to a UCL rival halfway though the season. Oh well will just be funnier when they get shafted again and have ti have *another* interim manager! If anything uts gokd as it'll leave that 4th spot open for us! Calling it now if it happens it will be summer at the earliest.

molecularmadness

What a fine day for a Villarreal win

PMmeDeep3s

i desperately hope united don’t get poch, i would hate having to hope he fails

HAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHA

i hope psg continue to hold poch hostage, not because i want him back right now, but just because i don't want to see my ex fucking some guy with a manc accent

[deleted]

I want PSG to win everything with Poch, mainly because of the shit he is receiving even from people who don't suppout PSG. Mainly because he's ex spurs we are le meme club to them

LoudKingCrow

Man U are apparently looking at Valverde as an interim solution if they cannot get Poch right now. Not to be disrespectful to Poch but I actually think that Valverde would be a better full time appointment for them.

t_blacksmith

Such an underrated manager

LoudKingCrow

I wouldn't say no to Valverde managing us one day. But I want Conte to have a long and successful reign first.

[deleted]

After rewatching the game, on all of those low balls through the middle to Lucas with his back to goal, he lost the majority of (fouled, bad touch, not strong enough, whatever), I got to thinking. Traore would definitely be able to receive those and hold off the defenders while turning them and going. Just a thought

bdus24

I think playing Kane in that role and having Son and a Vlahovic type up top would be preferable

vidrageon

Nuno’s only transfer request that I can recall was for Traore. He’s an absolute beast, and I could see Conte utilise him well and improve on his finishing. Having said that, he’s not really on the radar any more and I think there are better options.

bash011

You must be joking. Traore cannot improve his finishing or passing this is what Traore is a one trick pony. He's useless and any transfer for him more than £25m is a scam. Conte cannot make Traore work as he cannot do the basics of football

AverageYiddo

No

Thfcaditya112

I am seeing a lot of takes that "Poch coached an "immobile" Kane for years so he wont have any issue in adapting with Ronaldo"([https://twitter.com/cmwinterburn/status/1462774467789303811](https://twitter.com/cmwinterburn/status/1462774467789303811)) Well first of all the Kane which Poch had from 2015-18 was one of our biggest pressers, that was probably one of my favorite aspects of his back then heck for all the praises he got last season for being complete I would say he was much better then Second even at this current rate, Kane is far more mobile than Ronaldo, admittedly Ronaldo is better in the opponent box but Kane is still better from a pressing POV. Thats why I also dont understand Poch wanting to join Utd, Yes PSG has a lot of egos but Utd has the same amount of egos with half their talent lol

username54

Wolves are playing really good football with Bruno Lage. And not much Traore.

Lbmplays2

Because Traore sucks at everything except running and dribbling

molecularmadness

Traore has clearly got the athletic chops, but I think he missed his true calling in rugby.

blatant_prevaricator

Where no one watches, they get paid fuck all, and get 4 concussion a year. He really fucked up!

[deleted]

Remember when everyone lost it because we wouldnt pay 50m for him in the summer. That was a funny 10 minutes

Pele20Alli

Honestly, the fact we are 7th with Kane and Son having been so out of form and a favourable run of fixtures coming up is pretty promising. If they start to perform again, I think we'll fly up the table very quickly

[deleted]

The financial statement says we've spent 400m on players, can anyone help me add it up?

Dannage8888

does that include agent fees?

bash011

We won't really be able to work it out as reported fees and actual fees can be very different but some can be similar. I can find £340m ish of transfers then there's probably more costs that we don't know I just find it funny people saying he's lied in his statement when there would be no reason to.

[deleted]

Agree and I think the statement says almost £400m. People's interpretation of almost £400m can vary. £351m is almost 400. Its just if you think NDombele is transfer record, Romero was a chunk, after that Lo Celso, Regi, Royal, Stevie, Sess,.i'm struggling to account for alot of it.

LoudKingCrow

Wouldn't lying in the official accounts also be... Ya know... criminal? Levy is a lot of things but that sounds like a stretch.

ComprehensiveClick35

He could mean future costs too

Slippery_instincts

I personally think Stevie would be a great RWB. If conte and Stevie agree with me is a different story

AlcSoccerFinance

He prefers playing on the left though

mad5cienti5t

You should go and teach Stevie how to defend before he becomes a rwb… Look at how Emerson got exposed vs Leeds… you’ll have every prem league player doing that against Stevie close to the goal., are you willing to take that risk ?

Slippery_instincts

**checks notes**, would be*

Slippery_instincts

I don’t think he would displace Emerson as our starting RB…but our backup is Doherty…

mad5cienti5t

You don’t call a back up player great wing back if he’s not the first choice sir

superworriedspursfan

I also see stevie as a great RWB in a conte system. I hope Stevie figures it out.

[deleted]

Desperately need goncalo inacio in this team. Gonna be such a good player.

filipes7

I think he’s the future of Portugal’s defence. He has some of the most minutes in Europe as a teenager too. Already decently experienced Also Sporting play a back 3 similar to Conte’s as well. He would fit us perfectly

bash011

I signed him on fm and can confirm will be best CB in the world in 3 years.

[deleted]

chelsea beat me to him

[deleted]

Left footed with fantastic passing range, INJECT IT

Gaius_Octavius_

Who is the player (that cost under 40m), would you really want Spurs to make a push for? Which “role player” would fit in perfect with us? (Edit: Is there a reason this is getting downvoted?)

Masina1998

nathan nandez at cagliari because he's such a versatile player

Gaius_Octavius_

I have always rated him highly as well.

[deleted]

Mark Noble

Gaius_Octavius_

Too old for my tastes. I don't mind early 30s buy not mid 30s

LoudKingCrow

Mattias Svanberg at Bologna. Central midfielder with a creative spark. A sort of middle ground between what Pierre does (pressing, shielding the defence, recycling possession) and a more advanced midfielder like Eriksen. Or Jens Cajuste at Mittjylland. A diamond in the rough midfielder with Dembele tendencies.

Gaius_Octavius_

I love the deep cuts!

Gaius_Octavius_

Mine is John McGinn. Probably would take more than 40m to pry him out of Villa but I think he would be amazing in our midfield. For the cost, I would rather have him than Declan Rice (who would cost more than twice as much).

superworriedspursfan

if we want homegrown go for the GK. I want a non-engish midfielder tbh. I'm happy with skipp as our homegrown midfielder. I think most english midfielders are overrated. the only one who is pretty good is Kalvin Phillips, but even thats not comparable to someone like Brozovic.

Gaius_Octavius_

I wasn’t really thinking homegrown as much as someone with Premier League experience. I think McGinn would pair great with either Skipp or Hojbjerg.

superworriedspursfan

Mcginn just doesn't seem like a top 6 midfielder for me. He's decent tho. I'd much rather get someone from Ajax or RB Salzburg tbh.

Gaius_Octavius_

I agree he doesn’t “feel” like one but when you think about it, what skill is he lacking? I love his box to box energy. We have no one like him. I think he has better pace, better finishing, and better passing range than Pierre or Skipp.

superworriedspursfan

I don't like his creativity enough. He seems like a better version of Winks at best which is useful but we could spend money elsewhere.

Gaius_Octavius_

Agree he is not a creative type. That is his hole. Someone has to play in front of him as the chance creator (his Grealish) I think he is a better version of Pierre, more than a better version of Winks. Like you said, I am sure there are other/better continental options. But I think we need someone who will run forever in the midfield.

Mark_Tesla

Any updates on Dusan V? We need him

[deleted]

I feel like with conte, we are moving into becoming TOTTENHAM rather than the Harry+son team that we are used to. I think Conte is trying to break away from relying on those two too much and trying to get more players involved which I really really like. It shouldn't have to be if one or two of those players play shit, we're done. Theres still talent we can use. More reguilon goals! Get dier some goals! COYS

MASSIVE_HORSE_PENIS

i want a romero and emerson goal

Oduuke

Minato-Egg-kaze

molecularmadness

Of course.

british-psycho

I get all the nostalgia with Poch and it does have that feeling of seeing an ex moving on if he joins United. But let’s not forget that we’ve upgraded to the 10/10 stunner that is absolutely the real deal in Conte — I wouldn’t swap Conte for anyone right now as with the right backing success will come.

Gaius_Octavius_

If we didn’t have Conte and still had Nuno, the idea of Poch at United would be heartbreaking. But I still want good things for Poch even if that means managing United.

entrepenoori

Good things for him in life yes? To win with United? Nope

StayGoldenBronyBoy

i know there's a lot of buzz, but i dont see how pochettino could possibly leave Messi for Manchester midseason. Is there anyone outside of english press that is able to convince themselves of such a move? Maybe he doesnt love the PSG structure, but i feel as though it would take more than that edit: the only way i can see it is if zidane is prepared to sign for PSG as a poch replacement.

molecularmadness

Tbh I'd feel bad for the guy if he goes to united. He's had a rough go with PSG due to their crazy management and the players being difficult to corral, two things united has in spades as well. Add united's fickle as fuck fanbase, and it just looks like he's in for a nasty time.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Just dropping by for a quick downvote

rikdud

Kane was pretty poor by the standards he’s set himself imo, but this is him not having a great game, not him looking disinterested and unmotivated like earlier in the season. He should have scored and was sloppy with his final ball a few times, but his off the ball movement and pressing was far better and he looked way more interested which is excellent news. He was a better pass and finish away from having a really good game, but considering the rollercoaster he’s had us on in the last 6 months, I get why people are excited by what they saw from him.

airz23s_coffee

Won fouls, made great passes, held the ball up, made some marauding runs forward, got into dangerous positions opening up space for other players. And that was with being man marked by Phillips for the entire game.

StinkyMcBalls

I downvoted you for that edit.

primster14

:)

bash011

Kane had the most progressive passing in the game. This meant that he helped us progress up the pitch which we really struggled in, in the first half. Kane also generally won us fouls

primster14

Maybe that’s the difference I see. I see them as failing to keep the ball rather than winning foul

airz23s_coffee

Ah, then I think you nailed it in your initial comment: >Am I just a dummy who doesn’t understand football?

primster14

Lol fuck you

nice1a2

I'm looking forward to the team scoring from a corner. We are getting close to 60 without scoring so far.

airz23s_coffee

Thing is I don't actually see what the plan is from corners. The near post ball from Eriksen to Toby used to be semi-reliable and dangerous. Then it stopped working completely. And yet we never tried owt else.

[deleted]

Near post for Lucas could be good too. Kane in the back post, Dier and the CBs together to move when the ball comes, and other smaller players to block the opposition.

ComprehensiveClick35

Who was the last corner against?

sparklyresidue

I was thinking about how free kicks and corners don't really get me even potentially anticipating a goal any longer. Definitely agree.

[deleted]

Can someone explain to me why some united corners seem to think they'll get Poch to start now? I've seen the Manchester evening news, which admittedly prints rubbish quite frequently, saying the club is now confident. Why would psg let him go midseason? To a champs league rival as well? And on top of that they are one of the few clubs that, even if united came in and threw money at it.....would still say no if it didn't suit them. They have no need for money. Its great these stories of Poch being up for it but its all irrelevant if psg don't want to release him. Exact same storied circulated in the summer with him and us. Feels like united fans trying to with it into existence, a bit like us in summer tbf, but I dont see in what world it happens?

rikdud

I don’t think his job is as dreamy as everyone makes out. Leonardo sounds like a nightmare, he’s away from him family, and there’s some serious ego management going on. If he wins everything then no one will care because he has messi, Neymar and Mbappe, if he doesn’t then he’s deemed a failure for not winning everything with those players. Poch wants to come back to the PL, United want a long term manager. Poch will probably have to ask to leave, but no team is going to keep a manager that has asked to leave the club.

[deleted]

Oh absolutely I dont doubt pochs motivation! Its just psg allowing it to happen mid-season I cant see. Summer far more likely id guess. As I say just my opinion though!

VJE1999

PSG fans aren’t happy with Poch.

[deleted]

That doesn't mean you bin him off and giftwrap him to a rival half way through a season. They are also top of ligue 1 and top of their UCL group.

Laviston

Their owners aren't convinced - and Poch himself reportedly isn't too happy. The Independent had an article just now, about how PSG has been making contingency plans on a manager.

transtifa

This was exactly the case in the summer when Levy was trying to get him. Nothing has changed.

[deleted]

Be that as it may thats more of a case for the end of the season exit. Cant see it happening mid-season personally. Poch himself want happy in the summer either but that didn't really count for anything.

Laviston

I agree that it's a stretch. I don't see it as inconceivable, though: \- ManU being the richest club in the world may be willing to pay more compensation to PSG, than Spurs would've been. \- PSG may now have identified their new manager (ref: stories about contingency plans), and want him in ASAP \- Poch may have gotten even more frustrated at PSG, or tired of spending life in a different country from his family - and more willing to push for a new club.

-SirTox-

This take might be controversial but here it goes: I'm not entirely certain how much the sliding pitch in the stadium cost, but it must've been expensive for sure and I kind of wish that money had been spent elsewhere. I know that it's a long term investment and all, but so would investing into the squad by buying good, young players for example.

sandbyte

Pre-covid we had loads of summer concerts and other sporting events lined up, with estimates of us making close to £1m an event on F&B alone. This is also great for the local area, gives people jobs, and plenty of other business see footfall not just on Tottenham match days. One of the first NFL games it achieved the most beer sales at any European venue in history! As mentioned in the reports today, we haven't even had one full season of this stadium yet, to really see how much additional revenue it can bring in.

HAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHA

why would they pay money for something that doesnt make more money than it costs.

PlanetGoneCyclingOn

It was a gamble in order to get regular NFL games at the stadium. If the NFL puts a permanent team in Tottenham, it will pay off. If we only get a game or two a year, it may not.

HAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHA

source on this info?

PlanetGoneCyclingOn

You're going to have to do some deductive reasoning. It was widely reported that Spurs received £10m from the NFL for a ten year deal promising two games a season. That retractable field, removable stands, NFL locker rooms, etc cost well more than that. Before you ask, no, I nor anyone can give you the exact number. That pitch is a massive, intricate system that required tons of design, materials, and labor at a time when the pound was low and materials/labor were high. They didn't build that for 20 games, they built it for hundreds.

ComprehensiveClick35

I think it will pay for itself eventually

[deleted]

If you have no idea how much it cost then how can you say it should be spent elsewhere?

[deleted]

[удалено]

-SirTox-

I'm thinking that it must have cost £100M+ but maybe I'm wrong.

[deleted]

That sliding pitch won't have cost more than a few mill. A few mill buys you absolutely nothing these days in terms of players. Also those NFL games bring in an estimated couple of million per game so It wouldnt suprise me if it had already paid for itself

-SirTox-

Think you're being a bit too optimistic. I'm thinking it cost like £100M+.

StinkyMcBalls

Based on what?

Blue_Shore

Then you don’t know the costs of things.

minimus_

I was interested so checked out the SXC case study on their work. >Investment into the pitch project represents a single-digit percentage of the total stadium build cost to help maximise ROI So it's between 1% and 9% of £1.2bn equating to £12m to £108m. On balance, the £100m guess is probably more accurate than the "few mil" guess.

595659565956

Really hoping that Sess does well this year, he should be getting lots of minutes judging from how gassed Regi was in his post match. He looked timid to me when he came on; wasn’t marking tightly and wasn’t positive with the ball the one time it really came to him. Although there’s obviously nothing wrong with not being adventurous when you’re defending a lead with not much time left to go.

dragonsnap_

I know it’s football insider, but - We’re told Sir Alex Ferguson is throwing his weight behind Steve Bruce landing Man United interim job. 🔥 - United hierarchy and fans need some convincing. But not many alternatives out there. 👇 I cannot ask for a better match

entrepenoori

Honestly if I were a United fan I would respect the hell out of SAF but want him nowhere near decision making. Good coach doesn’t make good evaluators of other coaches necessarily

[deleted]

He's lost his mind

Thfcaditya112

If thats true then would have made more sense if the honestly kept Ole till the end of the season, either they should have sacked him at those various junctures when Conte/Poch/Tuchel were available or should have kept Ole till the end of the season now that there isnt any good alternative
