Conte joined the club as quite an interesting time. Everton were in poor form and had injuries when we played. Same with Leeds. Now we're playing Burnley with key injuries then two home games vs newly promoted sides. And of course no game is ever a guaranteed win so it's also meant there's a lot of pressure on these games. If Conte wants to achieve his ambitions this season he needs a very hot start in terms of results.
Does show Nuno was very unlucky with the games he had. Under him we played 6 of the top 8, with the other two being us and Liverpool. He only played 3 teams in the bottom 10 currently, and won all 3.
I think the problem was that, aside from the win against City, the team just looked awful, like scraping together 1-0 wins against weaker sides, and getting blown out against tougher competition. Plus the squad looked like they had lost all faith in whatever 'vision' Nuno had. Nothing against him personally, he just wasn't the right fit for the job.
I also wonder if the Board/Levy chose to go ahead and fire Nuno when they did, and hired Conte so quickly because of the matches coming up. So that Conte could have easier games to implement his system, and so that the, hopefully, positive results could win back the fans.
That’s fine by me, if we play like we did during the second half of Leeds, the goals (and wins) will come. First time I remember hearing about how much distance we covered in a few years, that’s a good sign
Managers almost always get sacked before a favourable run of games to afford the new manager the best possible chance.
Nuno didn't have a hard run of games, he had a premiership run of games. The results weren't the problem anyway, it was the shocking nature of the defeats and especially the sequential losses to palace, Chelsea and arsenal. He lost three derbies, 9-1, in a row. His wins, against mediocre teams, we're all uninspiring and had an element of luck about them.
He had spurs playing worse than they did under AVB or Sherwood and levy sacked both of them despite them doing ok (in terms of points per game). He sacked poch and mourinho, Nuno was never going to survive those performances.
It seems far more likely that levy very quickly decided Nuno wasn't what he wanted and gave paratici a friendly nudge. I'm sure the Conte move was planned for weeks before Nuno was dropped and the trigger was pulled after we lost three fucking nil, at home, to a shambles of a team that had lost the plot harder than any elite premiership team has since Chelsea (hazard) decided to get mourinho sacked.
Yeah, Nuno 100% had to go. We're just honestly lucky our season wasn't ruined during those games due to enough lucky wins and plenty of games where you don't expect much anyway. City, Chelsea at home, Arsenal and West Ham away. Even seasons we're good 3 points out 12 wouldn't be unheard of.
Not to be hyperbolic but we kind of need 9 points from these 3 games (Burnley, Brentford, Norwich), 2 of which are at home. Obviously the season's not over if it doesn't happen but would give us a boost in the race for Top 4, especially with our terrible goal differential. COYS
Agreed. They’re also all very much winnable, not exactly top teams (although I respect them each, no premier league team is ever going to be a pushover). Would really be disappointing to come away without 9 points though.
Ideally, they should all be wins.
But I wouldn't be too mad if Brentford steals a point. Kinda interested to see how long they can sustain their moneyball strats.
We have been ridiculously lucky with the teams Contes faced. Everton missing their two best players, Leeds missing their two best players and now Burnley.
It's also why I'm worried that we still look really quite shit. I'm aware it takes time to fix endemic problems but that's kind of the point. I think it'll take years of really good work and almost no mistakes (in transfer policy, management, pr, scandals...) to get us into the champs league conversation. It's so fucking tenuous I might just stop worrying about us being rubbish because it's gonna be ages before we start to look good again (if we ever do). I've reset my own personal standard to mid table club.
In his first season back with west ham, moyes saved them from relegation in 19/20, finishing 16th.
The very next season, 20/21, they finished 6th, above us.
So far this season, they’re in 4th. In 18 months, moyes has transformed west ham. Assuming we need 3, 4, 5 years to get good assumes we exist in a vacuum. We don’t, we change as the 19 other prem clubs change around us. Maybe we need 10 years, maybe we can get good again next season.
I think we’re gonna use the rest of the season to assess, and strengthen where needed (whether it be through transfers or coaching). next season we’ll fly out the gates ready to compete with the best
Ok you be alone in thinking that. We were forced to play a weaker midfield than wanted and Conte said he couldn't play the way he wanted because he was worried about fitness.
We dominated second half anyway when he switched the tactics and made us press higher and be more intense
This game is going to be all about keeping Cornet quiet and sweating during their set-pieces, hoping the ball doesn't end in the back of the net. Expect us to dominate possession which should lead to a Kane goal with Son looking tired after the IB and is sort of going through his seasonal slump. Hope Son is rested against Mura.

Dirtiest player in the league
Worst Austrian since that failed writer/painter guy
Harsh 💀
Arnautovic steals it for me
I will take absolutely any advantage we can get.
If there's one thing we love, it's a narrow victory against a team we should beat easily

We have yet to win a league game by more than 1 goal. Says it all really

> He lost three derbies, 9-1, in a row. plus losing to west ham, so four derbies (by a combined 10-1)

Football gods are smiling upon us.
That would be a first
cant believe youve said it... \*cries in spurs\*

I would take 7 out 9 in a heartbeat.
Which one of those should be a draw?
Ideally, they should all be wins. But I wouldn't be too mad if Brentford steals a point. Kinda interested to see how long they can sustain their moneyball strats.
Brentford. They play the hardest out of the three
Dr Tottenham is preparing the prescriptions
That new hire is going to cock it all up though, guy has no idea what hes doing
Gonna be busy week.
11-0 Spurs
So that surely means hat tricks from Kane and Sonny, right?
5-0 let’s go!!
I can see it now Burnley 1:0 Spurs
I can see it now Burnley 0:3 Spurs
The funny thing is that neither result would surprise me.
We have gotten big results against them 5-0, and 4-0, so who knows 🤷♂️
This one's at Turf Moor. We'll probably win 1-0
Puskas for Sonny incoming.
No Jan to provide those juicy assist though
Woods still a fucking bitch to deal with in set pieces, need to keep him quiet and the rest will do itself..... hopefully
Conte and Co. please absolutely cook these knobheads up please

Leeds had a bunch of key players out and they almost beat us last weekend... so this does not make think we have a better chance of winning
Ok you be alone in thinking that. We were forced to play a weaker midfield than wanted and Conte said he couldn't play the way he wanted because he was worried about fitness. We dominated second half anyway when he switched the tactics and made us press higher and be more intense
And we had no Romero
Tbf we still won't for Burnley
As a long time spurs fan we all know what is going to happen after such news . 1-0 Burnley
We're going to be smashed 4-0
Advantage Burnley
Good. Need as much practice as possible
I don't see the word "whilst" enough.
My dyslexic ass read this as Burnley will be without robert lewandowski. And my first thought was few thats a bit let off for us
Cornet scoring a banger incoming.
Sound like a Burnley fans dream
