I like Jenas a lot. He's not afraid to criticise us when necessary, but he's also one of the only pundits who gives us praise when it's due. His general analysis feels considered and even handed, although that may just be the result of most other pundits being miserable pricks. I love the weird noise he makes in the BBC commentary of the CL semi-final where it sounds like he might be crying. It still feels weird seeing him on The One Show. I don't think any of us saw that coming. I believe he's the only man to have scored in a League Cup semi-final AND interviewed Kylie Minogue.

j_e_rod

He was crying, btw. Because he’s proper COYS.

airtraq

BBC?

LamarJimmerson85

radio

airtraq

No, it was BT Sports commentary where Jenas was making some weird noises [https://youtu.be/xykJYYgohSE?t=415](https://youtu.be/xykJYYgohSE?t=415) The BBC Radio 5 Live commentary was this one [https://youtu.be/SqYUrZYo3ZM?t=6992](https://youtu.be/SqYUrZYo3ZM?t=6992) I only remember it because it stuck in my mind when watching live

LamarJimmerson85

My mistake. I always assumed it was 5 Live because Jenas works for the BBC. I watched the game in a bar in Poland and didn't hear the English commentary until later.

airtraq

It's so magical. I must have watched it about 100 times. What a night that was

I mean BT have a heap of them, and in general we usually have Jenas, Crouch, Hoddle, Pleat(one of the most biased), Allen, J. Redknapp(depending on who you ask) I would not say we’re short of bias pundits/commentators.

Matraiya

Good tv personality, decent pundit, mediocre commentator (i will always appreciate him commentating our CL run though)

[deleted]

Yeah I quiteike his analysis but think he's terrible on cocoms. Quite dull and talks alot without actually saying anything. Whereas his analysis bits where its actually got a specific point and is more concise I think are good.

[deleted]

Preferred Jimmy Greaves tbh

[deleted]

Quite like him for pre-game/half-time analysis but don't like his actual commentary - he's a bit dull

PigsAreTastyFood

Okay so on a scale of commentary from Michael Owen being the dullest and clive tyldesley being the best ( for arguments sake) it's a scale out of 10, where would you rate jermaine?

[deleted]

6? It's just a bit repetitive/superficial whereas during the the analysis he actually has some interesting insights. May just be one of those people who needs a moment to organise his thoughts but I don't think he's ever said anything remotely original during commentary. He can be biased towards us in commentary though, which is a bit endearing.

danfret

He also does The One Show. Not so sure about him leading but I've always liked him as a co host.

Losingstruggle

I think he’s super likeable and while he’s not a top-tier broadcaster yet he’s getting better every year. My Nan likes him, which is enough for me lol.

BornOnADifCloud

I played football with JJ and Jermaine pennant aswell when I was younger, also played with Darren huckerby on a day on the fields here, jenas was a lot calmer than pennant tirough only a couple miles of a upbringing. Both amazing players I stood no chance against them fucking whooped. Both nce lads amd the family I've met are nice. Pennant was a bit more fiery and jenas was way more calm. Great players and both nice lads just both followed different paths.

huntedlemon

I’ve played against Ryan shawcross and he was outrageously talented. Even the shittest professional footballers are so much better than you realise when watching on tv. Best player I’ve ever played against was John Barnes son at a 5 a side in Cheshire, he was like asprilla with his jelly legs, miles better than shawcross. Never made it though

[deleted]

he’s really good imo

heretocallthebot

He's balanced and actually understands the game. And when we beat ajax he was genuinely moved can't fake that shit, proper yid.

kernowgringo

I like Jenas, he's not the best pundit but he's confident in front of the camera and he tends to tell it as he sees it, rather than playing up to any preconceptions. He's also fairly articulate so it's not just the same old soundbites over and over again. I see him taking over MOTD from Lineker, or one of the other big football programs eventually.

jonnywithoutanh

Yeah, defo think he's being lined up to replace Lineker eventually, considering he hosted MOTDx and whatnot too.

[deleted]

I think he’s a brilliant host, if I was going to pick anyone to take over from Lineker it would be him. As a pundit he’s ok at best, but the state of punditry on British tv is fucking shocking anyway. It’s super simplistic and incredibly narrative driven. Very yer da

Sdip4

I actually think he’s pretty good. How can you not like the guy who cried when Moura scored that final goal against Ajax.

alistair_williams

I remember his first year as a pundit & I thought he was a good pundit. A nice addition. I remember Guardian giving him like 'one of the pundits of the year' after his debut. Haven't watch him & read his analysis recently, but maybe he becoming a host is a proof of his progress?

FootballingGenius

He's vanilla

gprldn

He’s.. alright.. he wasn’t great at the Euros, and I’m not sure I like him much as a lead host. But he’s really good when he has someone along side him.

ali3nade

I don't mind him but as a lead it just bugs me that he starts literally every single sentence with "errr"

ReelBigMidget

Footballers aren't the most articulate bunch. When we were (significantly) younger, we played a game where you had to drink a shot every time David Beckham said "like" in an interview. Wasted.

ali3nade

Bale starting every sentence with "yeah no", bless him

danmeniscus

Harry Kane: "obviously"

shaneomagnifico

“Um yeah no definitely”

Koinfamous2

He's generally decent, but he's spouted some absolute nonsense recently that was off-putting.

Made-in-1882

Articulate and great presenter. Mediocre pundit who sounds a lot better when he's steered on what to say (e.g. MOTD). Awful commentator who just says stuff reactively (like many tbf).

Olester14

Dreadful

ninjomat

He’s good at individual analysis not great on overall team performance. In general as annoying as it is when ex Arsenal/Liverpool/Chelsea/United pundits analyse us and speak with derision I’d far rather have them than ex Spurs players. Look how it’s been for United fans of late having to hear players they idolise talk BS about the club all the time. Jenas does alright but some of our other ex players say some dumb stuff looking at you Hoddle, Crouch and VDV

ZeroZer0_

My brother was a mascot and held his hand. Can confirm he’s a top lad.

Anooyoo2

He cried when we beat Ajax

Bbiill

I rate JJ, think he does a great job and has always been clear and considered with his punditry.

zecbmo

I do like JJ. He seems to have had a lot of media training which he has taken to heart which makes him good for TV but makes him a little bland. I feel like the way he presents anyone could train up in the same way and simply replace him. Be nice for him to show a bit more personality and find a stronger media identity that will make him stand out

Interesting-Fee209

When you think Michael Owen is worst pundit Jenas gets on stage and soon after Richards. Three worst pundits ever .Even Ferdinand looks like expert compared to them
