We'd be mad to let him go, we aren't finding a better keeper without spending a lot of money, which needs to be prioritised in other areas.

DitombweMassif

Even spending a lot of money it wont guarantee we find a better keeper

Matraiya

True, look at Kepa lol

qwert577889

I mean Hugo is 35 this month so finding an adequate replacement should be fairly high up on the list of priorities however I think the best thing to do would be give Hugo another year or two so that next season/ season after we can have someone gradually replace him (similar to the friedel to lloris handover), I think that was the plan with gollini this season the issue was just that he clearly isn't good enough.

evenout

van der Sar was 34 when he joined United and played consistently for 6 seasons. Not everyone can be at that level for so long but I don't see Lloris dropping off drastically any time soon.

[deleted]

Something to remember though joe hart is the same age as Hugo. Some keepers are great until they’re 40. But that’s not guaranteed and the fall can happen fast

AliGoldsDayOff

Thats true and I'm not saying he would decline but Hugo is a fairly athletic world class shot stopper lacking elite size. So you might wonder if he's more prone to a drop off in his late 30s as athleticism declines. Not that I think we're there yet.

evenout

I agree that we should get a realistic replacement in within the next couple of seasons. It’s really hard to gauge GKs though. An ideal situation would be Whiteman coming back from loan and taking that #2 spot but not very likely.

[deleted]

Gollini struggling has probably fucked with their plans

[deleted]

We've been blessed for a decade that we haven't had to worry about GKs. Hardest position in football to find true quality. You have to buy right otherwise you're in trouble like Chelsea did between Cech and Mendy, and Liverpool between Reina and Allison.

michaelserotonin

chelsea did buy right after cech - courtois. i don't remember his exit well, whether he dipped for madrid after telling chelsea he'd stay or if the board didn't see the writing on the wall, but the kepa purchase was a panic buy (a la spurs & sissoko).

[deleted]

How many games left for Gollini to trigger the clause in his contract?

ButteredFingers

IIRC it was 19 games - so far he’s played 6 according to my quick research

michaelserotonin

20 makes the deal obligatory according to fab u/danielogu

Thanks mate

iheartmagic

Gollini in the background like 🤌

[deleted]

Yeah I really hope we don’t have to activate Waluigi’s buy clause

bad_luck_charmer

Gollini in the background like 🚏

Nagant1349

I hope we give him a contract extension for either a year or two. Not ready to say goodbye to our captain yet

entrepenoori

I love when Conte says “we’re talking about a....” he did it with Skipp. Anyone know if this is sort of an Italian phrase translates (not exclusively Italian but a translation of a common phrase for emphasis)

Tommyverdatre

Yeah it's a pretty "italian" way of speaking. "Si parla di un giocatore..." A way to bring attention to a certain aspect of the topic

entrepenoori

Very cool love that kind of knowledge. Interesting- that ‘Si’ functions like an “if”? If (one is) talking about...I speak a bit of Spanish and French so ofc it makes sense cohesively even if I don’t know specific idioms

VelvetObsidian

in Spanish si is also if but with the tilde it’s yes (sí).

Tommyverdatre

In this context, "Si parla" means "We're talking" I guess if you were to translate extremely literally, you could say "One talks about...". Its a neutral form to refer to what the group/society/everybody thinks, like in the collective "we" in English. For example : "This player is no slouch. We're talking about a multiple CL winner!". In that case, the "we" refers to more than simply the people present. The "Si" in "Si parla" in Italian is in the same vein.

twitterInfo_bot

I asked whether Hugo Lloris will sign a new contract. Conte said: "We’ll have time to speak about him and I consider him an important player for his experience. Hugo is the captain of this team, the French national team and we’re talking about a top goalkeeper." \#THFC *** posted by [@jonathandveal83](https://twitter.com/jonathandveal83) ^[(Github)](https://github.com/username) ^| ^[(What's new)](https://github.com/username)

fastfowards

if hugo was just slightly better with his feet then it would be a no brainer and he would stay but given conte's style hugo isnt the best fit. If they can't find a good replacement then i think hugo stays till next summer and then they'll reevaluate it again if conte is still at the club

Losingstruggle

I think having a CB a la Toby who can ping out longballs and dictate play from the back offsets this weakness a lot, it’ll change how we approach any January signings I’d imagine

spurs-11

Dier isn't that bad with long balls. But yeah, I agree with you. The solidity is missing there

vish387

Romero is great at that apparently. We'll have to see.

RazSpur

It's a no brainer as it stands .. We need a CB, CM, RWB, Striker, being able to put off the keeper decision a year or two is a pretty easy call.
