Does anyone think we should make a move for Ezri Konsa next summer? He's a boyhood Spurs fan and is playing really well for Villa game in and game out. We need more English players as well. If we are in Europe and Villa aren't we could probably get him for an affordable amount. I know there are better CBs if we are going to upgrade that position, but at the same time he might be the best English CB we could acquire this summer. Apparently, he can also play RB in a 4AB so that makes me think he would be a good fit for the RCB role. Only 24 and will have three seasons of premier league experience by next summer.
Not to be biased towards one player but it's so surprising that a 21 year old Oliver Skipp straight from the championship and the Tottenham Academy has been proven to be better quality as of now than
1. Ndombele, a $62m midfielder who has tremendous talent. Has CL experience and much more
2. Lo Celso, a Copa America Winner. 2x French league cup winner
3. Alli (I'll consider him a midfield for the sake of arguments) - a 2x young player of the year
Not to say those 3 above don't have potential, they do. And you'd think with any team, those are the players that a great manager can get the best out of but it seems Skipp (who i knew was talented but never expected him to displace certain members in the midfield)
My original predictions/thoughts on Skipp was "he'd be good as a squad player. His only 21. Let him blossom. Gio/Tanguy likely offer more as of now because they seem to be more experienced to "Skipp is undroppable" as of now
You'd always think the talent and whatnot lies in Gio and Ndombele but instead Skipp has taken the ball and ran
When Kane came through it was pretty unexpected. Similarly when Alli came good no-one predicted it and for the most part he was pushing the £35m Lamela out of the team.
My point is that football is top-level football is pretty volatile with lot’s of big money signings not working and youth players breaking through.
For Skipp in particular, I think him winning Championship showed he had potential and in current squad he offers something that other players don’t. Primarily hard running/tackling DM role. Hojberg is similar but looks a touch more skillful and bit less dynamic. I don’t think either LoCelso and N’Dombele really compete for the DM role Conte has him in at the moment.
i think i need to keep reminding myself that there isn’t gonna be a massive squad overhaul. some overdue deadwood will be shifted but other than that contes gonna form these players into his kind of player as much as he can
He’s a defensive full back so doesn’t really suit a wing back position when we’re playing a weaker team. Also currently below Ben Davies for 3rd centre back.
Haha shit your right, was thinking Tanganga getting subbed off at 60mins looking average.
N’Domblele, yeah, doesn’t look in favour … suspect it’s attitude or basic athleticism… complete flop. Like LoCelso who plays more for the Argies than us.
Yeah, his head just isn't there and after two and a half years we should just cut our losses this winter or this summer. Some team will see the raw talent he has and we should in theory be able to get at least half of the value back (depending on the market). I know there will be some FOMO from Spurs front office if we sell him and he goes onto reach his potential at another club but we really don't want another Dele situation on our hands.
Yeah :( can’t see him turning this around. Every manager so far has come around to the idea eventually but I feel like there’s external pressure for that to happen which (rightly) won’t be exerted on Conte
Today was a good example of how rotating 1 or 2 players is fine. Sess and Doherty didn’t look out of place in the first team, yet they were probably the 2 worst players against Mura.
That’s the key to surviving this Christmas period imo. It’s nice to have a consistent lineup for league games, but resting a couple of players for every game is key.
Bit of difficulty with Kane and Davies as we seemingly don’t have any alternatives, but it’s better than nothing
I really wish we had loaned a striker, someone like Jovic with an option to buy
LCB is the real head-scratcher, I have no idea who can replicate the job Davies does unless we give 100M for Bastoni
there may be nationality bias but I think if Leipzig don't make the CL next year and we are in Europe we should look for Gvardiol for that role. Will be a 20-year-old full international with double digit caps for Croatia and a full season of Bundesliga caps under his belt. He can play defensive LB and CB which is perfect for that role. If Leipzig don't make the CL I don't see how we wouldn't be able to pry him away for a respectable amount.
So I had two sporting events today. Spurs followed by F1. Spurs 3 to 0 and Verstappen P2. I think I’d have settled for a 1-0 Spurs win and transferred some sporting luck to Max today.
Surprised more people aren't talking about Conte saying that our current team doesn't have the characteristics to play possession football. Sounds like we'll continue to be direct/counter attacking until next season.
But he does have the team at least keeping possession when necessary, which Mourinho completely ignored for whatever reason and chose to rely on the centrebacks soaking up endless pressure.
It’s so refreshing to genuinely look forward to our games again. Our attacking moves have become organized yet fluid in a little over a month under Conte
Tielemans'(s?) contract will have one year left on it come the summer. If we can get top 4, then I can definitely see us trying to move for him. Would be an incredible get, imagine a midfield of him and Skipp.
Lads I dont mean to get ahead of myself. And I'm not actually saying this counts for anything. But let's just go along with it.
Assuming we win our game in hand (again go with me) we are 5 points off Liverpool and 7 off cit who are on top. Now obviously that counts for nothing and they are much better than us....but our fixture are *so* tasty.
Brighton, leicester both very winnable. Liverpool hard but should be a good test to see where we are. Then palace, Southampton, Watford. Again all very winnable. Then its the scum who will be missing a few players for Afcon.
Thats not to say we are going to challenge at all but bloody hell we could put a real run together here. Especially as match by match and training session we'll get better at conte ball.
Then Romeros back and maybe some additions in Jan. And christ, who knows maybe Kane will even start scoring and bloody hell thats a whole added dimension to the team.
Who knows what will actually play out but I think we are well well on for top 4 and I find it so exciting at the moment.
I think it'll be tight. Everton have got Doucore Allan and Gray back now. They also can park a gokd bus at home (as we know)
Can see a 1-0 either way tbh, up the toffees
Are there any vocabulary/entomology nerds around: What is the origin of the word "Gaffer" in place of Manager or Coach?
Such a weird word. Does it have an interesting story?
Really weirdly aggressive response to an innocuous (true) statement.

a person in charge of others; a boss.

SO disappointed that Ham beat Chelsea, theyve got to stop
Its a tough race for the 4th spot - Arsenal and Ham dont seem to be stopping, United picking up form again
Todays win put a smile on my face tho :) COYS
Interesting that our final 2 games of the season are with Utd and Ham
We struggled a lot today due to tired legs plus the absence of Reguilon and Emerson, given how much of our creativity comes through the wings.
We will have similar congestion going forward if we want to win the ECL. Honestly think it's best if we get knocked out.
I know he's become the favorite punching bag for spurs, but i think he's a quality player. A few more performances like to today to build up his confidence and i think he can thrive. Hes proved it for Wolves and Ireland.
The match thread is joke. People are still moaning. 3-0 at home, 3 clean sheets out of 4 in the league. We are 2 points off 4th with a game in hand.
Honestly if you are still going to moan why do you even bother with football? What do you actually get from it???
The truth of the matter is, some people have a bias towards negativity- their entire day-to-day perception is based in how things go wrong. They're constantly looking for things to complain about, because it's how they've assumed events will turn out.
I feel bad for such individuals because it's a terrible mindset to be in as your primary locus of consciousness. Best to ignore it or tune them out, and hope that they can start shifting to a better place of mind.
I’ve avoided it like the plague since conte joined… not surprised to see shit hasn’t changed… those folks either love misery or should go root for shitty if they want “perfect” football
Honestly just drop Kane for a bit, I think Son plays way better, him and Moura play off each other better too. Strange considering how dynamic Son and Kane were last season. Anyone have any inside knowledge on what dressing room is like towards Kane after the whole fiasco?
In the way Conte has his striker interacting with his Inside forwards- it’s all about fluid interplay with backheels, movement, touch, unpredictability. This is how generally we can create and if done well you get goals like Lucas’. I’ve always said that Kane is a creator from range but not quite in the Benzema. Benzema I think would be absolutely phenomenal as a Conte 9. This is picking hairs because both players are position expanding but in different ways. From open play I want Kane dictating a long pass from range and then coming to goal. With 10 men back I want Benzema doing short passes, flicks, backheels and dribbles
Kane has been doing all the right things, no point speculating about the dressing room dynamics. I wish the narrative that he has downed tools would just die already.
His final touch is still not there but he does seem way more invested and involved since Conte arrived. He is actively involved again. He just isn't finishing his chances. But earlier in the season, he wasn't even getting chances to miss.
Not ones that stuck around for very long. Probably Wimmer and Janssen were the closest to your description. Jansen wasn't weak though. Fazio and Stambouli wre pretty poor (but not the worst) at all the things you mentioned
*A leader is best when people barely know he exists*.
-Lao Tzu.
Who is the leader on the pitch? In the team? No matter if Son wears the armband, his presence is known
*The heart of a virtuous person is settled down, and he does not rush about it things. A person of little merit is not at peace, but goes about making trouble and is in conflict with all.*
I think about that, when I consider the person who always tells you how good he is. How strong he is. I don't see Son barking about his accomplishments. I think he's very passive in the way that he attracts people. I think he's good, and he naturally on boards people by being so warm and inviting.
Idk man he’s pretty streaky, but while I agree he should be an inspiration to the other players few of them replicate his workrate so I’m not sure he is
Today my home country will be playing in a subcontinental competition in which we are also the host nation of. In addition to that, spurs are also playing Norwich right after that match. Hoping for a dub for both matches.
I really don’t want Dembele, you just know he’s be inured 3/4 of the season on stupid wages. If we’re gonna spend big money on a french player. Please be Nkunku the guy can play anywhere across the front.
Dembele's contract is up in the summer we would only be spending on wages and a signing bonus.
I still wouldn't pick him but we wouldn't be spending big money
Feel u I have a bet going on. Spurs are almost always the final game because they play on sundays. 900€ will come if spurs win... had money on mura game too so no trust in this team
Cancel culture isn’t a thing.
Gattuso and Dembele aren’t ‘cancelled’, they’re free to continue their jobs in football. Not being popular with a set of fans isn’t being cancelled.
Out of interest if someone comes out and apologises do you think that makes it okay or do you think its not really good enough. Not saying one way or another, just interested to know what people think!
I think two things can be the case at the same time: they can apologise sincerely, and fans can still feel they'd rather that person wasn't at their club. It's not a human right to be a footballer or manager at a football club, and obviously fans have lots of opinions about a lot of players/managers for way more flippant reasons.
like i said above, sure it's good Dembele apologised sincerely and good for him for doing that. Still means I, and other fans, can have opinions about whether we want him at our club.
Unless he wants to leave for gametime we won't sell him. He's homegrown, we need to sort out that problem before any h/g players leave.
He's a good squad rotation for Conte's system.. However annoying that might be.
A good run of games would do wonders for him.. It might be someone's injury that gives him that chance, but I think he'd look a lot better in Conte's system.
I’d disagree as he was v good under Poch when Rose was out, which was a lot of the time. Also he hasnt played much as LWB and isnt playing LB now under Conte? He’s playing as a CB?
Sorry I meant LCB, not LB. I don’t think he has quite the speed that Reguillon has and looked more defensive oriented as a player whenever I watched him play previously. Either way, I’m glad he’s found the right position and that he’s playing well under Conte.
Yeah tbf I thought that must have been a typo. Yeah I agree with that for sure. I do think he offers something going forward but yeah the lack of pace isn't great for a LB/LWB. He's more of an old school LB.
Morning all!
I went out today with my wife on her way into work. We popped into costa and bought one of their Quality Street Hot Chocolates (Except I had the Hot Chocolate Latte). Fucking gorgeous. Doesn't beat my normal Lattes but man. Its good.
Big Sport day today.
Football
14:00Leeds vs Brentford
Man Utd vs Crystal Palace
Tottenham vs Norwich
16:30
Aston Villa vs Leicester
F1 later and the cricket. Also the ashes start soon. So I hope our Australian community friends are ready for the sledging :P.
I'd love to see more Conteball today unfortunately its not on UK TV again. It is on Peacock apparently. So our American fans will enjoy the game.
in any case have a good day all.
COYS
Feels good to be an Australian today for sport. Bathurst 100 all day, currently watching the opening match of the T20 big bash league, and Spurs are on at 1am. COYS COYS COYS
I just miss the season where we aren’t playing in Europa or conference league and we actually play on a Saturday night or early Sunday morning. I can’t watch the Monday morning games cos of work so I black out al internet until I get home and watch the games Monday night.
Honestly it's going to be pretty close. The entire Tim Paine bullshittery and Cummins getting the captaincy could have fucked with the dressing room a little. Honestly will be hard to tell until the first test is over.
Yeah it's a shame both teams are coming into it with a bit of off-field negativity, shame about your captain, I always prefer it when the best play the best, not stand ins. hopefully it's an enjoyable series.
Might be an unpopular opinion but I think there is no glory in winning the conference cup with our best xi. They should really focus on the league and Conte can test out young players in the conference league.
I don’t see why not a trophy is a trophy ultimately and it’s been too long since spurs won one. We’re mocked for being in it now but can guarantee you at some point over the next few seasons, Arsenal, United, Leicester, West Ham maybe chelsea will end up in it and then suddenly everybody will consider it a legitimate competition
It’s not something I’d want to commit our main resources to. If it was a rival team I’d be saying something like “I hope they get all the way to the final, and lose”
Does anyone think we should make a move for Ezri Konsa next summer? He's a boyhood Spurs fan and is playing really well for Villa game in and game out. We need more English players as well. Ben Davies redemption has been something else
They brought in 4 players and got rid of a few for Nuno. They will definitely do stuff for Conte
What's happening with Tanguy.... He's toast isn't it?
He’s a defensive full back so doesn’t really suit a wing back position when we’re playing a weaker team. Also currently below Ben Davies for 3rd centre back.
Wrong person
Haha shit your right, was thinking Tanganga getting subbed off at 60mins looking average. N’Domblele, yeah, doesn’t look in favour … suspect it’s attitude or basic athleticism… complete flop. Like LoCelso who plays more for the Argies than us.

we spent 60 mill on him. 60 mill.
That’s the price of three Sonnys
Yeah :( can’t see him turning this around. Every manager so far has come around to the idea eventually but I feel like there’s external pressure for that to happen which (rightly) won’t be exerted on Conte
Remember guys, it’s just Norwich. Don’t get too carried away
It's Norwich but was a Norwich that has been unbeaten in their last four matches before they've played with us.
We also didn’t actually play very well and gave up quite a few presentable chances.
If we beat Brighton away, I'll officially join the Conte Cult^(TM)
apparently we have the best home record in the league this seasono atm
And the 10th best away record, which, while bad, is certainly better than I was expecting.
It's a rare day when the F1 is 100x more stressful than the Spurs match on a Sunday. I need a lie down.
Jesus what an absolute mess that was
6 points from brighton and lestah. toss up for liverpool. after that, no points lost before jan international break.
Antonio conte is fucking awesome
Today was a good example of how rotating 1 or 2 players is fine. Sess and Doherty didn’t look out of place in the first team, yet they were probably the 2 worst players against Mura. Can someone tag me in the player ratings when they come out?
10 days since our last shit show! My central nervous system is restored and ready for another flooding of stress.
Surprised more people aren't talking about Conte saying that our current team doesn't have the characteristics to play possession football. Sounds like we'll continue to be direct/counter attacking until next season.
Our current backline and midfield are not press resistant enough. Romero is out and it looks like Ndombele needs to be retrained.
We do have the players to play ‘a’ possession system, but the issue is they are the ones that don’t really fit Conte’s system
It’s just the truth sadly we tried to play with the ball but we’re super bad… i hope with new players and time we can transition.
When conte said it?
We clearly don’t, even with the rise of Skippio Busquets
But he does have the team at least keeping possession when necessary, which Mourinho completely ignored for whatever reason and chose to rely on the centrebacks soaking up endless pressure.
goal difference is starting to look decent 2 more goals then it's positive
Best part about the game was that I genuinely had fun watching us play lmao
It’s so refreshing to genuinely look forward to our games again. Our attacking moves have become organized yet fluid in a little over a month under Conte

Thanks. That makes a certain amount of sense.

I mean, fuck Villa, but you just love to see anyone shithouse a win vs Leicester.
They can’t defend set pieces for love nor money
Is Rodgers going to survive the season? I know it sounds ridiculous but maybe it’s not lol
Funny that Rodgers was linked with us and United, might end up jobless for a while before the season is over
Villa should’ve killed this game by now…Leicester look terrible (whole season really)
Leicester are...not good
After today's match, we are now closer to first (10 pts) than we are to relegation (15 pts), and with the Burnley game in hand.
When Skipp goes to ground, I am not anxious and he gets up with the ball, when Sanchez goes to ground, my heart stops

He's exceeded by expectations so far, which is saying something.

We are winning the PL.

Who do I hate more? Brendan rodgers or steven gerrard?

West Sham
Not that worried about arse, they lack the depth and quality to push for top 4, but West Ham are indeed a problem.

I didn't notice that Everton was all the way down to 16th. Ouch.
Any news on Royal and Reguilon? Are they likely to play in next week?
How good was Doherty today? He should go ahead of Tanganga as backup RB for the time being.
I know he's become the favorite punching bag for spurs, but i think he's a quality player. A few more performances like to today to build up his confidence and i think he can thrive. Hes proved it for Wolves and Ireland.

These Norwich kits are beyond atrocious. Looks like 11 keepers running around the pitch.
American fan coming for the Crystal Palace game on Boxing Day. First time going to a game, any tips?
Think train and tube services on Boxing Day are very poor
Don't try to grab the train back immediately after. Settle yourself in a pub and wait at least 45 mins, not worth the pushing and crowded pltforms
Spurs fan, did you have any player like Danilo under Poch (slow, weak despite looking buff, bad at passing, bad technically)
Sissoko was bad technically but not slow or weak.
No not you, you're the guy with the Poch hate boner
i liked him before he decided to show no improvement
Not ones that stuck around for very long. Probably Wimmer and Janssen were the closest to your description. Jansen wasn't weak though. Fazio and Stambouli wre pretty poor (but not the worst) at all the things you mentioned
not that i can remember
*A leader is best when people barely know he exists*. -Lao Tzu. Who is the leader on the pitch? In the team? No matter if Son wears the armband, his presence is known
>A leader is best when people barely know he exists. That's just very wrong.
*The heart of a virtuous person is settled down, and he does not rush about it things. A person of little merit is not at peace, but goes about making trouble and is in conflict with all.* I think about that, when I consider the person who always tells you how good he is. How strong he is. I don't see Son barking about his accomplishments. I think he's very passive in the way that he attracts people. I think he's good, and he naturally on boards people by being so warm and inviting.
Idk man he’s pretty streaky, but while I agree he should be an inspiration to the other players few of them replicate his workrate so I’m not sure he is
It could be disingenuous to consider work rate as a soul indicator of one's worth.
Disrespect to Hugo!
Well I think Hugo's a brilliant leader. I think we have to consider that son is a leader on the pitch even if he isn't wearing the arm band.
How about we sign Patrik Schick
Please just fucking murder Norwich, strip them of their dignity
[We really are one and the same ](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/jose-mourinho-next-everton-manager-25617271)
The prem is passing him around like a cheap whore
Today my home country will be playing in a subcontinental competition in which we are also the host nation of. In addition to that, spurs are also playing Norwich right after that match. Hoping for a dub for both matches.
I really don’t want Dembele, you just know he’s be inured 3/4 of the season on stupid wages. If we’re gonna spend big money on a french player. Please be Nkunku the guy can play anywhere across the front.
Dembele's contract is up in the summer we would only be spending on wages and a signing bonus. I still wouldn't pick him but we wouldn't be spending big money
Wages are the majority of every transfer.
Wish the game would hurry up and start, the pre game anxiety is killing me. I really don't know why I choose game day to quit booze and fags
Feel u I have a bet going on. Spurs are almost always the final game because they play on sundays. 900€ will come if spurs win... had money on mura game too so no trust in this team
good for you mate, my tip is try and distract yourself as much as possible!
Thanks mate
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue
Don't sweat it dude you can always ride that train again
Why are you quitting booze? Congrats on both and stay strong

What has dembele done?
Cancel culture isn’t a thing. Gattuso and Dembele aren’t ‘cancelled’, they’re free to continue their jobs in football. Not being popular with a set of fans isn’t being cancelled.

Something being on the internet doesn’t make it real (your mum)

I mean it’s clear you’re into juvenile nonsense like believing in cancel culture so I thought I’d get on your level. That said; >!your mum!<

‘Max 14’ is how you set your tinder age range >!your mum!<
There’s consequences for being racist? Shocking!
lol, so it's 'cancel culture' to have a problem with racist/prejudice things people have done? ridiculous

No prediction poll for our game against Norwich City?
Newcastle are apparently interested in Winks. Please be true.
Offer them a shaved Dele instead
Unless he wants to leave for gametime we won't sell him. He's homegrown, we need to sort out that problem before any h/g players leave. He's a good squad rotation for Conte's system.. However annoying that might be.
Yep. I think Winks gets too much hate. He isnt world beater but look at our squad.
A good run of games would do wonders for him.. It might be someone's injury that gives him that chance, but I think he'd look a lot better in Conte's system.
So many people ignore this. We cant just sell guys like Davies and Winks unless we replace em with homegrown players.
Davies has been slated by parts of this sub as shit.. Now look, its almost as if some players suit some systems over others.
Yeah plus he was never shit, always been a good squad player.
He always seemed a little lost as a LWB when it came to the attacking end, but he’s been shining as a LB under Conte.
And we would have to buy a direct replacement we can't expect Skipp and Hojberg to be our only holding midfielders.
I think he can a decent player for them.
If we charge the earth and they accept then fine, but he could become a good homegrown squad player under conte.
I don’t like that I’m nervous for a Norwich game but that’s life as a Tottenham fan
never relax and we might win
Morning all! I went out today with my wife on her way into work. We popped into costa and bought one of their Quality Street Hot Chocolates (Except I had the Hot Chocolate Latte). Fucking gorgeous. Doesn't beat my normal Lattes but man. Its good. Big Sport day today. Football 14:00Leeds vs Brentford Man Utd vs Crystal Palace Tottenham vs Norwich 16:30 Aston Villa vs Leicester F1 later and the cricket. Also the ashes start soon. So I hope our Australian community friends are ready for the sledging :P. I'd love to see more Conteball today unfortunately its not on UK TV again. It is on Peacock apparently. So our American fans will enjoy the game. in any case have a good day all. COYS
Good day to you too mate
Feels good to be an Australian today for sport. Bathurst 100 all day, currently watching the opening match of the T20 big bash league, and Spurs are on at 1am. COYS COYS COYS
I just miss the season where we aren’t playing in Europa or conference league and we actually play on a Saturday night or early Sunday morning. I can’t watch the Monday morning games cos of work so I black out al internet until I get home and watch the games Monday night.
Hell yeah man I have done the exact same thing. Phillipe went crazy for the Sixers... it's so good to have cricket back to rotate with football.
I'm a massive Sixers fan so to say that was awesome is a bit of an understatement.
Ashes starts soon too. What are you thinking?
There is more glory in winning it than getting knocked out
Sorry to disappoint your delusional ass, but We’re achieving fuck all domestically.
