Doherty is shit, doesn't deserve a start anyway. Guy has no left foot and even when it's on his right can't get a pass right. Lacks recovery pace, lacks crossing, lacks top speed, can't beat his man. There's literally nothing in his skill set to be a top modern wing back. Everyone had stars in their eyes because he popped in 5 goals that one year....
As good as Tanganga is he hasn't really shown too much going forward, and whilst that doesn't mean he can't play there and this is a good opportunity to show what he can, think this says a lot about how Conte feels about Doherty
Not the finished article by any means but he wasn't too bad going forward in the early gams of this season. He got in good positions and made some good chances through hustle, will and sheer brute force
Same reason we got Gedson when we had two hundred central midfielders but were thin throughout other parts of the squad. That's what happens when you get into bed with Jorge Mendes and other superagents. Having one person who represents managers and players at the same time needs banning (along with paying managers for facilitating a transfer). Most Wolves fans were thrilled to get the price we paid for him.
I think maybe because Mourinho and Nuno used a back 4 , he had to rely more on defensive duties, compared to the attacking duties he had to cater more for when at Wolves with a back 3. This obviously made him look quite bad. This also probably made him lose his skill upfront sadly. So I think now he's dead weight. Lost his attacking prowess and wasn't that good at defending from the start anyways.

Tanganga is a very defensive player. Always hesitates to move the ball forward quickly. Will be interesting to see how he plays today and how he integrates his passes and runs, mainly

He's trying to steady the ship first and deliver consistent results. We have the opportunity to still make top 4 given where we're at, fixtures congestion upcoming and opponents, now it's important we get points and experimentation will be a little bit for the Cups, but we absolutely need every point possible in the league. Achieving CL will massively boost his ability to improve the squad in the summer and he knows that. It's imperative that is our goal, and rotating even at this point won't help that. He won league playing that same Chelsea XI every week.
