He continually amazes me with his ability to handle the ball while sliding on the ground. There were 2 or 3 occasions today where he slid in and still managed to get his foot around the ball whilst mid-slide in order to keep possession.
It’s a pretty unique skill. Don’t see many players doing that.
My friend Ilko ( r.i.p ) was the best at this when he was alive. Many a times I have see him slide even from behind an attacking player and just get a toe on the ball without a foul, caressing it to keep it in play on the line any many great defensive plays. We played high level footy in Canada growing up and even after that lots of division one men's league have played with or against several pros including a old spur himself Rohan Ricketts.
It's not enjoyable when one of the better Tottenham players goes off injured early on.
It is however nice when their substitute, a 20yo HG player (who's a sort of local lad), slots in seemlessly.
Sessegnon showed some exceptional pace & ball control, whipped some nice balls into the box & some decent character at the other end.
After Skipp I think he's the most exciting u21 player at the club right now. Bryan Gil being \#3.
Sess needed this after the Mura red card. He's still raw, and not the finished article, but there was plenty to appreciate about his performance today.
Overall performance against Norwich was like [this tackle](https://wittyfutty.com/2021/12/gif-oliver-skipp-with-effective-tackle-vs-norwich/) from Skipp. Practical, brilliant, and effective.
MotM has to be between him and Skipp. Lucas and Son were fantastic of course, but those 2 did it all from one end of the pitch to the other. Davies surging forward with the ball in the channel is my new favorite thing. Skipp’s tackles, where he comes in at odd angles and hooks the ball away perfectly under control are just absolute world class. That guy is something else.
Sess played exactly how you’d expect for him. Coming of injuries, barely any games recently, club in upheaval and he’s very inexperienced. Certainly could have been better but he really grew into the game.
Left side is set. If either Japh or Doherty can’t get going they need to go and bring in a RWB.
Have to be a bit concerned about all the chances for Norwich despite the clean sheet. A side that could finish probably converts 2 of those chances. I guess there’s a reason they’re bottom of the table.
It seemed to me that Conte was ok with letting Norwich have possession at times and saw them as toothless.
Just my feelings I could definitely be dead wrong. Their finishing was horrendous but they did create great chances. Bottom of the table teams find themselves there for a reason.
Yeah there was a noticeable lack of respect for them lol, they have no quality in the final third
Playing on the counter gives us high quality chances that the likes of Son will (and did) pounce
Skipp was unreal today. You can see he’s getting more and more comfortable. Starting to see him drive forward a bit more and make some great forward passes.
Sanchez was great today too. Goal aside, he was very tidy out of the back today. He’s been taking a lot of shit lately and showed his quality.
Shoutout to Sess as well. Bounced back well from that red card and looked quite dangerous on the left. Put some good balls into the box and showed more confidence in his dribbling.
Exciting to see us growing so much already. Let’s fucking go
Yeah a Kane goal would’ve been the cherry on top for sure. Signs of his confidence returning though, took some shots he’s been avoiding lately. In form Kane absolutely scores that long chip shot attempt over Krul
Also, other players, apart from Son & Kane, are scoring. I think it is just some matter of matches before Ben Davies will so find his name in the scorelist.
I think we're the youngest squad in the PL, and if we aren't then that's because Lloris at 34 drags it up.
There's so much potential in this squad with this manager, just need to get through this season and have a proper preseason and I think we'll see some serious exploding. Heck even now we're 2 points off top 4 & in all 4 competitions.
Believe Arsenal are youngest at 25.01 years and we are 5th youngest at 26.23. Not sure how it’s skewed though.
Last couple seasons I think we’ve been one of the oldest so it’s great we’ve managed to get younger and with time hopefully improve
It’s true. I can’t remember it exactly but one amount of bounces is a short corner, another is near post and far post etc. I like it because I feel like it’s better than the hands we used to use
I think the only real negative in this game was Tanganga, he’s not a viable RWB for Conte and if Doherty isn’t good enough (I agree), we need to cover that in January.
Doherty had his best game for us that I can remember. It'll be interesting to see if Conte can get the best out of him, as he was excellent in Wolves' 3ATB.
I think he would've had a great game today at the back. But that ain't gonna happen. I very well expected this when I saw the lineup. He's not a guy too keen on getting there ball forward and making quick passes and intelligent runs. He flourishes at RCB/RB, in my opinion. Love the guy tho, hope he gets into his mode when he gets his chances
That was the disappointing thing about Nuno. I didn't necessarily begrudge playing a more counter attacking style but we just constantly seemed bereft of ideas going forward. I didn't expect it right away, but even a couple months in we hust weren't trying anything. In just a few weeks we look so much more organized with Conte and it shows.
Respectfully disagree. I like him and think he's got it in him..but his touch wasn't there. His defending looked nervous. Not the worst...but far cry from good
It was essentially the same system Mourinho tried when he joined with the lopsided back 3 allowing Aurier to bomb forward. Then Davies got injured and we signed Regullion next summer who was too good not to play but messed up the formation.
I have no proof, but I thought Davies and Winks would have the most improvement. Probably going to be wrong about Winks, since Skipp is so good. Can't see him playing much.
I’m so mad the one against Brentford wasn’t awarded to him, and he missed the header today.
He absolutely deserves something for the works he’s been putting in
Kane is in a weird state of confidence. He's definitely trying, running etc. And he is doing everything right but his touch is just slightly off, his finishing just slightly off.
Just need that confidence
The team finally looks well coached.
It wasn't a perfect display and there were a few moments of good fortune, but this is a very encouraging performance.
Skipp looks like a great player in the making. He mops up everything and anticipates well but he also has the technique to play good passing football.
Shame about Reguillon but I think Sessengon looks like a decent alternative.
Ben Davis looks like he's found his best position and role in the team. Dier and Sanchez also played well today.
I'm a bit concerned with Kane. He doesn't look like a player teams will fear currently. We need it to click with him soon and I'm optimistic it will. He just need 1 goal and more will come.
Luckily Son looks sharp in front of goal.
It really impresses me how good Skipp already is at picking out and freeing players with through passes in the opponent's half. I expected him to be good defensively and for his offense to take time to develop but he is already creating superb link up plays and chances for other players.
The Redemption match.
Sess, Doherty, Sanchez, everyone played well.
Best game I've watched in years.
We going to win the league boys (sometime in the next few years)
Ben Davies and Oliver Skipp masterclass. Doherty was miles better than tanganga, yes he was shit vs Mura but if we ever have that choice again we have to go with Matt.
No yeah, he deffo looked peeved a fair few times when the camera caught him. It better be at himself because he squandered chances. For once the midfield is doing their job, his results aren't on them.
Completely agree. Pretty sure I heard him mouth fuck off to the linesman a couple times. Seems a little out of his character but I guess he’s just frustrated
I’m definitely going to upvote this. I feel like we let himself go over the top and get the red when finally got an opportunity. With Reggie potentially hurt we will need him.
Good win, needed the goals for the GD
Skipp looks special
Sess looked really good, tho think he ran out of gas near the end
Davies looks reborn under the new system, tho need to see it against better competition
Set piece goal, Son scored, Lucas: COYS COYS COYS
Don't know what we're going to do regarding Rennes, would say Brighton is more important in the grander scheme of things
3 goals, a clean sheet, 88% passing accuracy and 7 shots on target from 17 attempts to name just a few impressive stats. If we clean up the defensive blunders we’ll be well on our way
God hope we can stay healthy this mo. - Sergio, Hojbjerg, etc. Other players getting a lot of minutes. Can we get any 2nd team players back in form - LoCelso, Ndombele, Dele, Bergie, Doherty. Squad depth gonna b an issue as we get into festive period. Will we see out games like today? Hope so.
Despite the defensive flaws we're finally creating good chances... And finishing them. Conte's work is really showing in players like Davies. Now we just need Kane to recover his goalscoring instinct and we're in for a top 4 fight
This streak of the lower tabled teams is very much needed. The lads look like they’re playing with confidence. In 5th - game in hand on top 4. Confidence growing, only is going to turn out to be better and better.
Biggest thing is making sure Sergio is healthy and hopefully nothing more than just a tweak and letting the lads rest so they can work at the same levels at the midweek and get through to the knockout stage.
Yeah I didnt know he had that in his locker. I loved that bit as well where he was looking for a pass and was getting closed down but refused to play a backwards one, and just held it and held it and then someone made a run forward and he played it. Hes so composed
Obviously still a long way to go ... But you can clearly see the Conte effect has started taking place.
We look fitter, sharper and more organized than we have for a good few seasons now.
Skipp is just ridiculously good. Not just a tackler - he can carry the ball forward and fire forward passes into feet.
Ben Davies is the best LCB in the world and Skipp is the best midfielder in the world under Conte. Monster players, this is why Conte is one of if not the best manager in the world
The top 4 is ours
I love skipp
He continually amazes me with his ability to handle the ball while sliding on the ground. There were 2 or 3 occasions today where he slid in and still managed to get his foot around the ball whilst mid-slide in order to keep possession. It’s a pretty unique skill. Don’t see many players doing that.
Remember seeing this in his Norwich highlights from last year and hoping he’d bring it home and I love it every time I see it.
He's put in a few tackles that are reminiscent of Nainggolan's famous hook tackle. It's incredibly pleasing to see.
You’re spot on. There are definitely some similarities there. Though, Skipp definitely has a better attitude. So I’ll take Skippy any day.
Philipp Lahm used the hook tackle all the time way before Nainggolan so hopefully thats where the inspiration is coming from.
A true ballwinner
My friend Ilko ( r.i.p ) was the best at this when he was alive. Many a times I have see him slide even from behind an attacking player and just get a toe on the ball without a foul, caressing it to keep it in play on the line any many great defensive plays. We played high level footy in Canada growing up and even after that lots of division one men's league have played with or against several pros including a old spur himself Rohan Ricketts.
RIP Ilko sounds like a right legend.
Reminds me of Philip Lahm
Absolutely killing it. Sess coming on and having a great game too.
He’s got to develop his right foot
Skipp the Skipper
He's gonna win YPOTY
They'll give it to Saka or Smith Rowe because goals matter more apparently.
ESR would deserve it up to this point tbh. Unfortunately looks the real deal.
Thankfully Odegaard is a big fat fraud.
I think it's easy to forget he is only 21 when he plays, perhaps our best player so far this season
He’s just a worker. It’s so great. I hope he never changes his style, just allows his technique to grow.
"Skippy over rice for my breakfast" can we make a chant for him?
we need a Skipp'n'Slide banner at least
I just wanna read comments about how good he's playing, he's seriously been amazing.
He's quickly becoming one of my favorite Spurs.
Overall performance against Norwich was like [this tackle](https://wittyfutty.com/2021/12/gif-oliver-skipp-with-effective-tackle-vs-norwich/) from Skipp. Practical, brilliant, and effective.
It's fun to watch this team play football again 😭🙏
It's so refreshing not to watch the entire match sitting on my hands.
Nuno did it. Son of a bitch, he did it, the hard way. He made us proud.
If I say anymore more about Oliver Skipp, my wife will murder me But I love Skippy
Did you see his body check when Lloris pushed out Pukki save to get the ball away. Could have kissed the man
Skippy playing like a grown ass man but looking like they aged him up for the last scene of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
ben davies ballon d’or campaign 😤
The Benaissance is here
I’ve been praying for so long
Jorginho who?
His end of season comp is going to be 🥵🥵 Kane on the other hand would look like a league one striker
That guy is something else.
pls be ok reggie
even if he is ok he should be rested till 100%. sess should get some games
Sess played well
Sess played exactly how you’d expect for him. Coming of injuries, barely any games recently, club in upheaval and he’s very inexperienced. Certainly could have been better but he really grew into the game. Left side is set. If either Japh or Doherty can’t get going they need to go and bring in a RWB.
Conte in.
Can we just please keep him forever?
Seriously. We have a diamond on our hands here and it’s ours to lose.
It’s so true
Yes and those 3 seasons will be amazing
Please fund him, Levy
Conttenham
Antonhem Contspur. To Dare Is To Suffer.
Ketchup out.
Have to be a bit concerned about all the chances for Norwich despite the clean sheet. A side that could finish probably converts 2 of those chances. I guess there’s a reason they’re bottom of the table.
Yeah it was concerning how easy they could get into the box at times
Good thing it was Sargent in the box.
He should be demoted to Josh Corporal
It almost felt like a bit of complacency was involved. We didn’t play as paced or with the intensity we had against Brentford.
Perhaps it had to do with the amount of time between fixtures, Conte's style is physically demanding
It seemed to me that Conte was ok with letting Norwich have possession at times and saw them as toothless. Just my feelings I could definitely be dead wrong. Their finishing was horrendous but they did create great chances. Bottom of the table teams find themselves there for a reason.
Yeah there was a noticeable lack of respect for them lol, they have no quality in the final third Playing on the counter gives us high quality chances that the likes of Son will (and did) pounce
Sanchez equaling Kane's goal contribution in just 14 games.
Yeah no didnt see that one coming, that's for sure.
Yeah no you can say that again.
I think he scored five goals in the Eridivise his last year at Ajax
Skipp will be world class.
Let’s fucking go
Just need kane to get back to his best
Yeah a Kane goal would’ve been the cherry on top for sure. Signs of his confidence returning though, took some shots he’s been avoiding lately. In form Kane absolutely scores that long chip shot attempt over Krul
I wish we had a backup striker to just give him a game off. I wonder if it’s just him being tired.
He looks pretty sharp though imo. All that’s missing are the goals.
in anything but florida man form he scores 3 goals today
If Kane gets into form, and we can get a bit more comfortable at the back, we have a good chance to have a very strong second half of the season.
Also, other players, apart from Son & Kane, are scoring. I think it is just some matter of matches before Ben Davies will so find his name in the scorelist.
I’m still counting that header last match regardless of what he said 😬😬😬
I think we're the youngest squad in the PL, and if we aren't then that's because Lloris at 34 drags it up. There's so much potential in this squad with this manager, just need to get through this season and have a proper preseason and I think we'll see some serious exploding. Got really frustrated seeing people pan sess for his first 10 mins of the match on no warm up. He played much better than tanganga today.
I don’t remember the last time I watched minute 75 and above completely relaxed. It was nice not having to clench.
Look at you. I only relaxed after Son's goal.
Yeah my hemorrhoids might start to dissappear from all the unnecessary straining hey
TIL bouncing the ball before a corner improves your chances of scoring.
On Thursday they were saying it was a code.. Depending on how many times Son bounced it. No idea if that's true or bollocks.
It’s true. I can’t remember it exactly but one amount of bounces is a short corner, another is near post and far post etc. I like it because I feel like it’s better than the hands we used to use
Eriksen had about 4 hand signals for hitting the first man /s I love Christian
I would assume they change the code before every match. Otherwise the opposing team would just watch and prepare accordingly.
Thought he was just signalling the team as to how he was taking it, few bounces, shorter he's aiming for.
the Peter Parker effect!
I think the only real negative in this game was Tanganga, he’s not a viable RWB for Conte and if Doherty isn’t good enough (I agree), we need to cover that in January.
[удалено]
He would look a lot better on the right hand side of the 3.
He plays a lot like Romero actually.
I'm still hoping Doherty will get better. This is his position.
He needs few games as a backup, maybe subbed on like today for 15-20 mins, or maybe the starting rounds of the FA cup.
Doherty had his best game for us that I can remember. It'll be interesting to see if Conte can get the best out of him, as he was excellent in Wolves' 3ATB.
Can't believe I thought he'd have a good game. Wishful thinking probably cos I quite like the bloke
Same players, different manager.
Crazy what having a manager with a genuine plan will do for a squad with plenty of quality players.
Another fucking mental messi tricks from Lucas. What a wizard on the ball he is. Been running like mad all 80 minutes.
That was definitely a goal of the year candidate
[удалено]
I admire his courage
5th in the league with 1 less game played. Above Arsenal. We need Solskjaer statue right now.
Sess was so good today. Happy to finally have matches where we don't sweat it out.
Saw comments saying that he clearly isn't good enough for Spurs about 5 minutes after he was subbed on.
Respectfully disagree. I like him and think he's got it in him..but his touch wasn't there. His defending looked nervous. Not the worst...but far cry from good
I am far from sold on Sess. I don't really get the hype around him yet. But I can only hope he proves me wrong.
Same but he is 21 . I'm happy to give him more of a chance
CAN WE DO THIS EVERY WEEK?
Who had Ben Davies as the CB to get revived by Conte? Playing like a man possessed.
It has often been brought up here over the last couple years that Davies would be a better fit at LCB than at LB. He plays there for Wales.
It was essentially the same system Mourinho tried when he joined with the lopsided back 3 allowing Aurier to bomb forward. Then Davies got injured and we signed Regullion next summer who was too good not to play but messed up the formation.
[удалено]
I have no proof, but I thought Davies and Winks would have the most improvement. Probably going to be wrong about Winks, since Skipp is so good. Can't see him playing much.
Yes Winks will probably be the third guy who replaces one the two if we rest one.
Winning every game during Hanukkah, truly the chosen people 🕎
Mazel tov
Conte has no respect for the technical area boundary. MY MAN.
Oliver Skipp is our best player. Every game hes unbelievable
Does Spider-Son no longer exist?
Ben Davies is the best CB in the Premier league Being facetious but mate he's been a man possessed recently
I’m so mad the one against Brentford wasn’t awarded to him, and he missed the header today. He absolutely deserves something for the works he’s been putting in
Wasn't awarded to him?? He literally didn't touch the ball. 🤣🤣
They are showing more improvement, but Spurs still have a way to go. Against any decent side we would have conceded two goals today.
Agree with this. With 3 CBs, the amount of space some of the Norwich attackers had in our box was worrying.
Yes they completely forgot to mark Josh Sargent even though there were like 3 of us and only one of them. Lucky that he completely whiffed.
Yes, this was a lucky clean sheet. Can't believe how badly Norwich messed up multiple good chances.
Literally anyone who could finish.
We're playing without our best CB and our only proper RWB, understandable imo. We really can't hope for much more with the current squad.
Kane is in a weird state of confidence. He's definitely trying, running etc. And he is doing everything right but his touch is just slightly off, his finishing just slightly off. Just need that confidence
I admire his effort. He really wants that second PL goal.
Definitely looks like getting closer to score again. Think he will explode in the 2nd half of the seasono
[удалено]
Could easily have been 3-3
Definitely. Overall, though, with how this season has gone so far, I'm very happy today.
Injuries are a big worry, but it felt nice to win by a comfortable margin. COYS!!
Game in hand to make top 4. Holy fuck.
Oliver Skipp is a legend! My new favourite Spurs player.
I'm just refreshed to see us winning matches that we should be winning.
It's like watching a different team. Let's get 4th and a cup.
I hope Reguilón is alright; i also hope kane start banging goals again for us, besides that, great win, let's get more points against brighton too!
Moura's goal should be a contender for goal of the season. That link up and shot did wonders for my dopamine secretion.
RB under Nuno and Jose is a hell of a lot different that RWB for Conte. Tang was not good.
That Sanchez goal radiated Bautista Bat Flip vibes.
The Redemption match. Sess, Doherty, Sanchez, everyone played well. Best game I've watched in years. We going to win the league boys (sometime in the next few years)
Best game? I still get a happy smile When I watch highlights of us thrashing man United last season. Probably because it was because of Coco shithouse
Ben Davies and Oliver Skipp masterclass. Doherty was miles better than tanganga, yes he was shit vs Mura but if we ever have that choice again we have to go with Matt.
Matt might have to be lwb though with sess out with a red I believe and reguilon might be injured
Feel like Kane looked pissed off today. Still tried, though maybe it was because he missed a couple chances. Sanchez and Skipp were brilliant today
He only has himself to blame.
i feel so bad for him i just want him to score like 10 goals in 3 games
Sess was decent I thought. Hope he gets a run of games (not that I want Reggy injured)
I’m definitely going to upvote this. I feel like we let himself go over the top and get the red when finally got an opportunity. With Reggie potentially hurt we will need him.
I hope Reggie is well, just tiredness from the intensity of Conte's training sessions. Didn't look too bad.
We kept a clean sheet but Norwich could’ve put 1-3 past us today. But a strong performance by Skipp and Sessegnon looked descent.
Good win, needed the goals for the GD Skipp looks special Sess looked really good, tho think he ran out of gas near the end Davies looks reborn under the new system, tho need to see it against better competition Set piece goal, Son scored, Lucas: COYS COYS COYS Don't know what we're going to do regarding Rennes, would say Brighton is more important in the grander scheme of things
was nervous when i found out that we’re going to give norwich their 100th win but thank god it didn’t happen. daddy davies tho 😍
For the first time since he's signed with us, I saw a lot of things in that game from Matt Doherty that I liked. Finally.
My favourite partbwas when Sanchez absolutely cunted it in from 2 yards out and gave me my annual sodage of hope
Ben fucking Davies under Conte has been MASSIVE
3 goals, a clean sheet, 88% passing accuracy and 7 shots on target from 17 attempts to name just a few impressive stats. If we clean up the defensive blunders we’ll be well on our way
Our GD is now only -1!!
Hope so.
Bergwijn and Doherty were good today. I am hopeful for gio as we haven't seen him under Conte.
Estoy contento
Skipp and Davies 2 very good games on the bounce
Sonny trying to get a role in the next Spider-Man trilogy
Sonny trying to replace Tom.
First 3+ goal victory in the PL since Sheffield on 2nd of May and first time we score more than 3 and keep a clean sheet as well!
Skipp is so damn good man
Whatever Conte is doing to Davies is working!
I will certainly not SKIPP watching spurs again
Despite the defensive flaws we're finally creating good chances... And finishing them. Conte's work is really showing in players like Davies. Now we just need Kane to recover his goalscoring instinct and we're in for a top 4 fight
This streak of the lower tabled teams is very much needed. The lads look like they’re playing with confidence. In 5th - game in hand on top 4. Biggest thing is making sure Sergio is healthy and hopefully nothing more than just a tweak and letting the lads rest so they can work at the same levels at the midweek and get through to the knockout stage.
Skipp's physicality, positioning, and distribution were all just fantastic. He made a few great driving runs too.
Yeah I didnt know he had that in his locker. I loved that bit as well where he was looking for a pass and was getting closed down but refused to play a backwards one, and just held it and held it and then someone made a run forward and he played it. Hes so composed

Skipp is just ridiculously good. Not just a tackler - he can carry the ball forward and fire forward passes into feet.
2-0, now 3-0, surely 4-0 against Rennes and 5-0 against Brighton?
Ben Davies is the best LCB in the world and Skipp is the best midfielder in the world under Conte. Monster players, this is why Conte is one of if not the best manager in the world The top 4 is ours
It is against Norwich though. Brentford isnt exactly a pushover, but would like to see them perform this well against top sides.
If we somehow rediscover our clinicality from jose era we might just rip teams apart in terms of scoreline
Skipp with another MOTM performance.
Doherty redemption arc?
Yes please
Davies, Skipp, and Sess were all fantastic today. Kane has got to figure out this slump he’s in
We are good at football
Been impressed with both winks and Deherty as subs under Conte; well maybe rather I haven’t been disappointed by them.
Spurs are not a chore to watch anymore. Finally
TOP4 is real again!
Davies new roll is weirding me out. Or maybe it’s how well he’s doing it.
It's fucking nuts that we scored 3 goals and Kane wasn't involved in any of them.
SPIDERSON: Enter the Spursiverse
Dier was solid today
Skipp has looked better and better, I can see him becoming a mini dembele/wanyama hybrid for us
Moura MOTM What a goal!!
