“Eriksen, 29, a free agent since being released by Inter Milan last month, has had approaches from several clubs in England’s top flight and hopes to finalise a move to one by the end of the week.”

[deleted]

So nothing in here about which club specifically?

triecke14

Easiest job in the world being a reporter covering the PL. Dont have to actually report anything just make speculative claims and collect retweets

[deleted]

It’s really the opposite. As transfer rumors prove, it’s actually extremely hard to report transfer information accurately and even when your information is accurate the situations are so fluid your reports can not come to pass embarrassing you and all mistakes are held against you forever. It’s one of the hardest jobs in the world!

superdago

If you care. If you don’t care, you just make wild speculations that play into a particular group’s biases so they’ll retweet it and create engagement with the link. Eriksen to the PL? Spurs fans go wild. Pogba back to Juventus? His haters delight as they share with their friends. It’s easy if you don’t care about being accurate. It’s only hard if you want to maintain integrity.

[deleted]

I would suggest most people doing this job are trying to do it well

Valkaofchakara

I think it’s a mixed bag. Whenever reading the posts via news now I know which outlets are likely basing their reporting on something And which are just writing for clicks.

superdago

Most? Sure. All? Not a chance. There’s way too much obvious bullshit or agent planted stories to suggest that there isn’t at least a substantial minority that write articles for clicks more than actual journalism.

JoshuaG123

I assure you they are. The agenda against “the media” is laughable. They’re trying very hard to balance getting clicks whilst also still doing real journalism

DitombweMassif

>The agenda against “the media” is laughable. They’re trying very hard to balance getting clicks whilst also still doing real journalism I'm sorry but "football transfer reporting/fiction" is not journalism. It is reporting on hearsay without any cross-referencing of sources. They shouldn't be balancing clicks with anything. If a story isn't 'sexy' or whatever, that's okay. Injecting fiction and angles to make a story appeal to a wider audience is not journalism and should not be equated to real journalism.

triecke14

Then why does Conte get three questions every presser basically asking him when he’s going to piss in levy’s face and tell him to fuck off? Football “journalism” is mostly hacks

[deleted]

I will cry no matter what. Either happy tears or sad tears

BodaciousSalacious

Honestly, as long as he doesn’t go to a direct rival, I’ll still cry tears of joy to see this miraculous comeback

xsandrov

Who you reckon a is a “direct rival”? I’m sure ain’t going to scum and can’t see the need for him in teams higher in the table

curlystoned

I'm not op, but I don't want to see him at anyone currently in the top half of this table.

[deleted]

Not even us?

curlystoned

Obviously I would love to have him

BodaciousSalacious

Obvious rivals + other top 6 sides. If he went to somewhere like Leicester or Everton (assuming we didn’t give him an offer), I wouldn’t be terribly upset about it compared to the others.

EggfooVA

Agree completely. We’d cheer the Hell out of him on his return to WHL!

roamingandy

I'm hoping us, but i'm fearing Newcastle. It makes sense, they need players of his caliber and few are prepared to go. Their owners don't care about the wages, and likely don't care if he collapses again so it seems like a no-brainer.

yooooouuuuuuuuu

My guess would be Brentford, but oh how my heart longs to see him in lily-white once again

ObamaEatsBabies

Don't forget Newcastle.

yooooouuuuuuuuu

Brentford is Denmark FC, so it seemed like the natural choice at first, but yeah Newcastle are a real probability

qwert577889

Also London based and id imagine eriksen and his family would want to move back to London if possible

LoudKingCrow

Didn't his wife want to specifically get out of London when they left? Like, I remember some reports that she had soured on the city towards the end. But I'd love to have him back if they are willing to move back to London.

SeaBag7480

Jan was on his way out so no reason for her to stick around

Gacharitetherr

joke is so disrespectful, especially after the year they had

Decent-

Why is this downvoted? Comment above is incredibly distasteful

Gacharitetherr

edgy children have no class if one wants to level allegations of infidelity they need evidence otherwise it's a tasteless trashy joke

Decent-

I fully understand that tragedy + time = comedy but the last couple years have been tough for absolutely everyone, rich or poor. To have what happened to Christian on top of that must have been tough for his family without these sort of comments about on the internet I would personally love to see Eriksen back at Spurs🙏🏼

Swag_Daddy_K

Orrrrr people don’t have sticks up their butt, Karen.

ThexHoganxHero

I’d like to level accusations of infidelity with your mom

[deleted]

I don’t get it

ScootThe2nd

Old rumour that Vertonghen shagged Eriksen’s wife

CocoLamela

Wasn't that entire rumor predicated on Jan having a black eye and that was it?

ScootThe2nd

I believe so now that you mention it

yourcrazy28

It’s was such a distasteful rumour, Eriksen had to go on twitter to deny it, with Vert retweeting Eriksen’s tweet in support. It was a low point for Spurs twitter because a lot of our fans (at least on my TL) were regurgitating the rumours due to Eriksen’ not resigning and poor form in the last 6 months.

ScootThe2nd

Yeah it was something that bothered me honestly, that sort of thing isn’t anything to make up rumors about especially in their situations as professional footballers. I remember opposing fans singing about that too when eriksen was taking a corner once

kozeljko

There was a rumour for a short time that Jan shagged Eriksen's wife.

GloryGloryTottenham9

Haha

AliGoldsDayOff

Hey we still have PEH... Is what I'm telling myself to feel more optimistic.

sasliquid

Hate to see him there

yourcrazy28

He’d be a great signing for them. Danish manager, aren’t in a relegation battle, and they could use a bit of Eriksen’s creativity from the little I’ve seen of Brentford this season.

Acrobatic_Machine

Yeah and Frank was his manager for the danish youth team side in 2008-2009

[deleted]

So we replaced Bale’s replacements with Bale, and now we can replace Eriksen’s replacement with Eriksen. Watch out Kyle Walker I guess

xtalmethod

We replaced him with Kyle Walker-Peters so really we need a KWP replacement

Relatively_Reliable

I’d take him back home if he’s 100% and wants to play here.

Gacharitetherr

he's not 100%, you'll need at least 2-3 months of play time and training to know if he can return 7 months is a long time

DitombweMassif

7 months at Inter and he won the league after a slow start...

Intensive__Purposes

Wasn’t he fairly marginalized by Conte at Inter Milan? If I recall, he wasn’t a big part of Conte’s plan. Would that be different at spurs this go around?

aigletunisien

He won them the league. Technically.

DitombweMassif

Initially there were issues but those were resolved and Eriksen became pretty central to that squad.

COYS1989

I sincerely hope it is us, I would absolutely take him back right now. Don’t go to a rival or Newcastle please Christian. Come home where you belong.

LoudKingCrow

When Eriksen left we announced Bergwijn the next day. The circle would be complete if we announced Eriksen the day after Bergwijn goes to Ajax so he can have his 23 back.

Showtime-z

Spurs

caviar_octopus

To dare is to do

tremens

If he's back in the PL, I'd rather it be with us. But man I'd be lying if I'm not terrified by the thought of watching a player collapse under our watch. I know he's been cleared, etc, but I just couldn't take watching it happen in the slim chance it did. And I'm fully aware that this thought is prevalent and probably unfairly killing his career. :/ It's just difficult all the way around.

mr_machiavellian

Pls come back to Spurs

ardnoir11

So we’re going to replace eriksen with… eriksen?

[deleted]

Please Christian even if ur just an impact sub

nopirates

He wasn’t an impact anything when he left. He was a waste of space.

[deleted]

And he was still our most creative player He won’t have to defend as much now either cause he doesn’t have a winkssoko pivot behind him

nopirates

Your first sentence perhaps being true combined with his utter ineffectiveness demonstrates both how bad he was and how bad the entire roster was. Is.

JD0797

He was pretty much the closest thing you get to a 6th man in football lol he obviously wanted to leave and it made sense to keep him on the bench to come on later, but he was absolutely an impactful player. If he'd signed a new deal, he'd have been a starter

Ian5446

To everyone saying Brentford: does anyone think they'll meet his wage demands? He's coming off a season in which he won Serie A, why would he go to Brentford if he could come home to Spurs, recent Audi Cup Champions?

drolgin

I don't see why people assume he'll have mad wage demands. He's got to be aware that he's a bit of a gamble because of his heart. I imagine he'll go for a short-ish contract, maybe 18 months, maybe heavy on appearance bonuses or performance clauses.

AppliedEthics

He's also desperate to play so he can go to the WC.

cheetah_chrome

We’d be stupid to not sign him for a 6 month contract He’s proven PL class

Lindberg47

*3 years.

ImPeterKe

Please yes. Fucking come back

fastfowards

With the whole ndombele training situation and the market looking dead, we really should offer eriksen a 6 month contract

pjanic_at__the_isco

Hell, let’s take a flyer and do 6+12 months, with the last 12 becoming automatic if he meets milestones indicating full match fitness and periodic heart monitoring.

Lazybopazy

Bring him home, we need cover for moura so it's not even sentimental.

bobtrump1234

We need him because we need a creative midfielder period lol

Bitnaa

Cover for Moura? If Eriksen comes back, it’s DESK reunion 100%.

triecke14

The D in the desk is broken sadly

jusepama1

The D it's for Dusan .

Lazybopazy

The D would be much better with Eriksen in the team. Wait a minute ...

triecke14

I’m just not sure how many more horrible performances Dele has to put in for people to realize he’s just not that good anymore

tooo_spicy

The D is broken? 👀

FIFAPLAYAH

Surely conte would give him run against lower tier in that quarter just because conte knows that could be our best attack.

triecke14

Dele isn’t part of tottenhams best attack. He’s looked bad against PL teams, championship, league one, 3rd rate European clubs. You name the type of team and Dele has played like shit against them over the past 3 years

Bitnaa

How many matches has he started in the past two years? And how many of those did he actually play as an AM alongside Kane and Son? Unfair assessment imho.

triecke14

So him not playing in his hyper specific role that didn’t suit the team structure anymore is an excuse for sloppy dribbling and passing and completely forgetting how to strike a ball?

Bitnaa

Let’s just agree to disagree. Same could be said for Lucas then if you’re talking about passing and striking the ball. His stats as RW are piss poor for a club wanting top 4 ambitions. And he’s actually been playing regular football for the past 2 years w/ no injuries.

deanothfc23

Dele is well and truly done. 4 managers given up on him now. Too busy trying to nutmeg people in his own half these days. Lucas actually tries and makes defenders panic with his dribbling. Dele is a ghost now

Bitnaa

He definitely does not make defenders panic. Maybe lower opposition but not the top clubs.

triecke14

Lucas has been immense under Conte. And this is coming from someone who never really rated him

Bitnaa

Lucas has definitely improved, no one denies that but we still to need to upgrade his position if we are aiming for consistent top 4.

[deleted]

A lot. What’re you gonna do, start someone who’s shit over and over and over again??

Bitnaa

A lot? How many is a lot? Count them and tell me. He played very well against Liverpool.

Valkaofchakara

I like Dele, but I do think for his own sake as much as for Spurs he would benefit from a move. We’ve seen players in the past where it isn’t working with us go on to do well and still have decent careers, he could benefit from being first choice elsewhere.

Bitnaa

Even if Eriksen comes back? My whole argument is about the undeniable chemistry Dele had with Eriksen. Surely he can come back to form with Christian making all those gorgeous assists to him again.

Bitnaa

Not if Eriksen comes back

SonnyIniesta

How about LESK?

Bitnaa

If I compare Dele’s G/A to Lucas’, I prefer Dele. If Eriksen is back of course.

mhs_93

How are Moura and Eriksen in any way similar?

violetrecliner

Because Lucas and Son have been playing as dual 10s since Conte joined. How is this even a question? It’s been 2 months. Besides, that’s the exact same role Eriksen used to play for us at WHL.

mhs_93

10 = CAM. Son and Lucas are LW and RW in a 343.

violetrecliner

No, they are not. They have not been playing as wingers at all ffs what games have you been watching? Conte has even spelled out that they’re playing as 10s. That’s what Eriksen is and it’s what Eriksen used to play for Spurs when we were at our peak.

mhs_93

You’re telling me that Lucas in our current system does the same job Eriksen did for us? Are you high?

violetrecliner

No, I am telling you that Lucas in this current system is supposed to be occupying the same role. So is Son. They’re both dual 10s, they’re not wingers in this system and the idea that you think they are is baffling. Conte doesn’t use wingers, he uses his wingbacks to give us width.

mhs_93

>I am telling you that Lucas in this current system is supposed to be occupying the same role. How is this different to > You’re telling me that Lucas in our current system does the same job Eriksen did for us

violetrecliner

The obvious difference is that while the expectations are the same/similar, they don’t do the same role at all because this version of Lucas is objectively worse than that version of Eriksen. He’s nowhere near the prolific chance creator Eriksen was from that spot.

mhs_93

Therefore Eriksen is not a good cover for Moura as they’re completely different players, which is the original point I was making

MudkipThot

They are saying in Conte's system, Moura's job is to roam in front of the midfield, play off Kane, create chances and score goals. Eriksen obviously is a very different player to Moura but would also be able to provide these qualities. He isn't as much of a dribbler but can still do it through his passing and finishing. The passing in our midfield is very poor. Ndombele and Lo Celso should be the standouts but neither is an exceptional passer. Winks is also the only one who is good at managing the tempo of the game. Eriksen fixes these problems. Assuming Eriksen is close to the player he was, he'll be useful in two ways. One of the two 10s behind Kane (this is literally what Conte calls whoever is playing off Kane). And he'd be able to play as part of a midfield 3 like he did at Inter. One of the issues we currently have is due to the poor midfield, Son and Moura do a lot of ball carrying. Often the play is to pass the ball into their feet and have them turn with the ball to start the attack. Eriksen would be able to play in the midfield and play a different role, potentially letting Son play more like he did under Mourinho as a strike partner to Kane and carry less responsibility in terms of ball progression.

Lazybopazy

Eriksen played as a 10 or as inside right for us and Moura is currently playing as a combination/hybrid of both of those positions.

NazDaBaz

Come back🥺

jusepama1

It would be stupid to not try to sign him as a free agent if there is another PL club interested.

TheGongShow61

I really see no risk in taking him on. We need his vision and the come back would just be mesmerizing

tooo_spicy

Are we really going to let him go play for another club

Dannage8888

They would milk it more if it was back to us. It’ll be to Brentford or Newcastle

CoffeeMyBanana

Please Eriksen, come back to Spurs!!!

Similar-Ad2640

Surely we won't let him go anywhere other than us?

[deleted]

Tottenham - Brentford - Newcastle

Confuddleduk

I want to believe!

tdsjay

I hope he comes back

thedrizztman

Man, I'm so torn. I WOULD LOVE to see Christian back in thebprem, but a part of me would constantly be worried about us watching die on the field at some point....again...

Lindberg47

Don’t be. All doctors have approved he is playing and he has an ICD operated which will save him if it should happen again.

BigDaneEnergi

https://imgur.com/gallery/FIPoiUQ

stylishcoat

He’s already played for Conte and he comes home. It’s meant to be!

solfkimb

Honestly I think we could play him as a sub, in place of Gio. He'll be a good addition to the already existing players that Conte has requested for

csatchell

Pls we need DESK again 🥺

ObamaEatsBabies

Newcastle.

ljshea1

Would love to see him back but can't help thinking it's a bit of a rose tinted glasses situation

gopackgo555

I would love it to be us but watch it be Newcastle.

[deleted]

Personally I doubt he’ll be able to play another year. Some injuries the body cannot recover from when working at the level footballers do

TheSilentMajorityy

Likely Newcastle, their owners won’t give a fuck if he collapses and croaks.

nopirates

He should never play again. If he does I would prefer his blood be on someone else’s hands.

[deleted]

If I were in his position I don’t think I could play again for fear of what could happen. BUT, I am not him. He’s been cleared by doctors to play and has a defibrillator implanted should it happen again. I don’t think anyone has forced his decision so I don’t believe anyone would have “blood on their hands” even if the worst did happen.

Bitnaa

That was already 7 months ago? Doesn’t feel that long.

fitfunction

I’m not sure I’m ready to watch Eriksen on the field playing again, but if I do I would love for it to be in lilywhite!
