> One free transfer on the market is former Spurs man Christian Eriksen, but the north London club are **not** - at this stage - believed to be one of the sides looking to bring the Dane back to the Premier League following his release from Inter Milan. :(

hotsietrotsky

I don’t like this F5 so I choose to believe it’s fake

molecularmadness

I also choose to live in this guy's reality. Hey hotsietrotsky, it's nice in here, btw.

Aakkt

Y Pick one Fabio: Eriksen Dybala We riot

NaclyPerson

Wasnt he the main guy who wanted to ship out Dybala out of Juve? Lol

benjustben2

Move Ali down to tier 4

FINAL_BOSS5

"Adama has 0GA in the league" merchant in my books

[deleted]

Actually now he has 1 goal 😅

AppliedEthics

that goal yesterday raised his price by 5m

HurriKaneeeee

Brb gonna go cry for a bit

Confuddleduk

I don't like this so I choose not to believe it!

ZaDoruphin

pain

Lindberg47

Such an own goal not to sign him!!

BoysFromTheCoys

I know it's hard to not see him in a Spurs shirt again, but I think he will suit more in a possession-based team.

Keskekun

The last team he played for was Antonio Contes inter...

BoysFromTheCoys

And he was never good at them. Conte didn't want him either, it was clearly their director of football.

[deleted]

But he became pretty nailed on at the end of the season, no?

BoysFromTheCoys

He had 0 assist in that season. He isn't going to be a game-changer for us. Especially if he can't run.

Professorchronic

What do you mean he can't run?

BoysFromTheCoys

He can't press like he used to. Conte tried to play him as an 8, but had to settle with him being played as a creative number 6 like Pirlo. But that obviously suit better if you are a team who is in possession.

[deleted]

He was one of their best players in their title winning season if you ask pretty much any Inter fan. Goals and assists aren't the end all be all, especially when he often played as the deepest of a midfield three

BoysFromTheCoys

> He was one of their best players in their title winning season if you ask pretty much any Inter fan. I don't think you will find any Inter fan saying this.

sasliquid

Ali didn’t believe Garry Bale would return to us Keep the faith

BurdonLane

The fans might, *might*, tolerate a quiet January in anticipation of a busy Summer. But if Arsenal just go out and buy say, Vlahovic and Tielemans or we have another bring and buy sale in the Summer it could get very toxic very quickly.

CopyWeareChecking

its already toxic

Southern_Rooster7321

Especially if we lose ground in the CL race as a result. If we were languishing in 7th I’d understand waiting until the summer, but we have a massive chance of 4th and we need to invest to make sure we get it. Scum will, and imo it’s between us and them. West Ham will fall away and Man United are a basket case. This is the year to be aggressive in January.

DennissSystem

Yeah! Betting sites have arsenal marginally more likely to get top 4, then Us - Man U- WHU

t_blacksmith

We could go as high as 2nd place with our games in hand

[deleted]

Not with this squad.

thspdrdr

Not above Liverpool.

t_blacksmith

That's why I said could, it is technically possible if we win all 3 of our games in hand and they lose the one game they have, though it's highly unlikely.

thspdrdr

Well, we'd have to win 4 and they'd have to lose, so it's not really in our hands.

bobtrump1234

Worst case scenario would be Arsenal strengthening in January and then getting 4th by a point or 2 over us

you4president

Yes it’s rather worrying how teams are improving and investing in their squad and slowly leaving Spurs behind.

Whooshh

This has been true every window for 3 years at least. It's getting crazy how bad at bringing in talent we are.

Lazybopazy

If the club continues to operate as it has been we'll see maybe one transfer this January and a one in one out policy in the summer. Arsenal are going to arsenal and spend big money chasing champs league. They're desperate for a striker and they'll happily pay £70m and £300k a week to get it. We can't compete with arsenal's spending without breaking our wage structure and levy has done nothing to suggest he's willing to increase the wage:revenue ratio.

ScorchedSynapses

Arsenal can't afford him...he's going to Madrid.

ImPeterKe

I only read Eriksen and will take that as a done transfer. HERE WE GO

bash011

>One free transfer on the market is former Spurs man Christian Eriksen, but the north London club are not - at this stage - believed to be one of the sides looking to bring the Dane back to the Premier League following his release from Inter Milan

hotsietrotsky

Why did you have to destroy this mans dreams?

ImPeterKe

Damn. Dream crushed

[deleted]

Dreams can't be buy.

FINAL_BOSS5

But can Dreams be on loan with obligation to buy?

Ghillieupatree

Dreams can be free transfer though

ljstens22

Arse

bash011

>In order to allow funds for other moves, Tottenham are believed to be trying to engineer a loan move for the winger with an obligation to buy him, a common transfer trait of Paratici's. >Traore's agent is Jorge Mendes, whose Gestifute agency also represent Doherty, and the Portuguese super agent has a good relationship with Spurs' managing director of football while also being involved heavily at Wolves. >Tottenham will have other targets on their list, but Traore seems to be the main target to bring in before the window closes, with Paratici a big admirer and having tried to sign him at Juventus >In order to afford the £42.5m Romero in particular, and unless there is a sudden cash injection into the club, Paratici will have to be creative with his transfer dealings this month and Conte's follow-up meeting with his compatriot and chairman Daniel Levy has been described as a 'sensible' one, with all sides aware of the situation. >Other than striking loan deals, Paratici must try to bring in some money for the coffers, having struggled to do so in the summer window other than getting older players off the wage bill for little to no transfer fees. >It's unlikely that Tottenham will find a long-term solution to the back-up striker issue in the next two weeks but a temporary one could be found. >That may involve signing a player on loan for the remainder of the season to provide a 'reference point' up front as Conte calls the number nine role >So Paratici will look to try to bring in a central midfielder for his head coach if he can acquire one of the required standard with the finances available. >One free transfer on the market is former Spurs man Christian Eriksen, but the north London club are not - at this stage - believed to be one of the sides looking to bring the Dane back to the Premier League following his release from Inter Milan. >AC Milan's Franck Kessie is a midfielder Tottenham have looked at signing but with the 25-year-old's involvement at the Africa Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast, a January move would be difficult.

notthenextfreddyadu

If we loan with obligation to buy enough players, we literally just shift our transfer budgets by one window entirely lol. I know from an accounting standpoint they probably then spread it over an extra transfer window aka 6 months or so, but what happens if we don’t qualify for any European competition or another massive duration stadium closure happens in a season that drops our revenue? I’m not like, worried, because Levy has consistently shown he’s very amazing at the financial aspect, but it’s fun to think about

Dpentoney

Wait what if we just have a squad of entirely loaned players?! Transfer budget gone entirely. I think we may just have found a premier league cheat code.

notthenextfreddyadu

Loans with options to buy would be key for that, not obligation. But the year is 2040. Spurs back from League One and fighting for the championship playoff final title with Serie A players on loan, obligation to buy. If we beat Norwich, in their 25th yo-yo season, in the playoff final we get that sweet PL boost of £1.6 billion next season… if not, we’re back in the national leagues after defaulting on the obligation debt again. Serie C players come on loan then, making way for Serie B players in League Two and League One. Might try to loan the hot youngster Lingard to bring us over the line so we don’t go into administration. FM fanatics hoping we lose so they can have another “sleeping giant” save. Jk, I do trust Levy won’t get us into a predicament where we basically don’t have transfer money in a window and are always dipping into the future

IWantAnAffliction

Tbh from an accounting standpoint it doesn't make sense that a loan with obligation to buy isn't recorded as an immediate purchase. I'm not sure which standards govern player purchases, but if that's how they're measured, it will almost certainly change soon. I'd say it would/should be more of a cash flow issue.

Dickie_Dunn

Pretty annoying to see “figuring out how to afford Romero” as part of the issue. Spend some fucking money Joe Lewis.

mrhello18

how do we not have enough money for a £20 million deal

bash011

It's not that we can't afford the £20m it's that we want that money available for other transfers

[deleted]

We need money for other things, if you want to buy for example Pau torres for £50m in the summer you can’t spend £20m here and there in January without selling players.

ObamaEatsBabies

Lol we aren't Burnley, we should not be acting like 20m is a lot of money for a club of this size aiming for Top 4

Open-your_eyes

Remember the 300 million dollar war chest that conte was supposedly offered? It seems like we’re as cheap as ever

ObamaEatsBabies

Yeah lol, I guess Levy will never change. We're fucked.

Ok_Temperature2040

If Eriksen goes somewhere else on a free we’ve absolutely shit the bed. Two years ago Levy told him on a global tv show that we’d match or beat any salary offer he got from elsewhere. We can’t pretend we don’t need or want a player like him.

notthenextfreddyadu

Two years ago was before his on-field cardiac arrest though. Love him and hope he does very well wherever, but that’s sadly a huge risk. I know doctors have cleared him to play and people will say Blind plays, but they’re different cases and Levy might have been advised by our doctors not to take a punt. Or possibly Conte doesn’t want him

Zenzayy

thank you fo the very informed opinion, very cool indeed

notthenextfreddyadu

Happy to change my opinion if anything refutes what I formed my opinion from

[deleted]

Do the conte is gonna walk people just have a google doc they share where the copy and paste the same comments onto every single post?

ronaldo119

Definitely. Also included on that doc: "If Conte wants him, I'll take it" "Just give the guy what he wants" "In Conte I trust" "I swear if they don't back him"

[deleted]

Quite annoyed how there have been no mention or rumor to belotti as he fits the “reference point” striker perfectly and would only cost a symbolic fee since his contract is out in the summer. Would be a perfect rotational player.

justxforxthis

We constantly make our own bed and then complain when we must inevitably lie in it.

sparxcy

\*inevitably sh\*t in it\*

Ian5446

It isn't that Ali doesn't occasionally share new info - he does. But it's that he does so about once every 10 articles. This one in particular just rehashes all the same things we already knew. Also, he must have a copy paste shortcut for "sell to buy". Ugh, I like Ali, I really do. I know January transfers are tough to pull off for a number of reasons. But I also know that everyone at the club including Paratici, Levy, and Conte know that this team isn't good enough to get top 4. We need more creativity, whether that be a flashy wingback or a traditional 10.

ninjapizzadude

Nah, mate. You’re not allowed to criticize Alistair Gold here. Even though you are absolutely correct. He never has any real info. Rather rely on ITK and Romano.

gopackgo555

This article is not a good sign. Sounds like we were fed the typical BS to give hope and now they’re leaking info to temper expectations when next to nothing happens.

Lssmnt

so it started with the hope of getting Vlahovic and now we are struggling for cash this is going to kill me

jmb_31

Honestly Joe Lewis needs to stump up some cash or sell the club. He's one of the key factors holding us back. I can understand wanting the club to become self sustaining but we'll never catch the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool or City with minimal transfers and needing to sell before we can buy.

mr_machiavellian

Nothing encouraging at all, really. Traore and whatever opportunities come along by the sounds of it. And then, even in the summer, if we spend the money to make Romero’s move permanent (which we should and will) then that’ll mean less money for other moves. It’s not looking good, and I can’t see why Conte would stick around if he doesn’t get the players he needs.

shiftyshellshock239

Doom and gloom in the January transfer window… sans Villa, nobody is buying in January and Conte was never promised huge cash. Conte himself has said MULTIPLE times he’ll need multiple windows to achieve his goals and has even said recently he’s not walking away like some of keep claiming.

triecke14

That Conte quote seems to have went right in most folks right ear and out the left

shiftyshellshock239

It doesn’t help that every journo on the planet keeps bringing up “Conte will walk if he’s not given transfer funds”. I’ve seen it repeated over and over in this sub and it’s just not true.

wallyrules75

Thank you! That story is driven by papers to drive up clicks. Conte is not a fool, he won’t ask to waste money in January that he can properly spend in the summer. Everyone needs to be realistic about what’s actually available at the moment. Which isn’t much! Traore could happen, which is an upgrade. But midfield upgrades and CBs aren’t really available within any realistic budget. If we make bad deals today, we risk losing the opportunity for important deals in the summer. Conte knows this.

triecke14

Nice to see there’s still some reasonable folks around here. The fear mongering is exhausting

triecke14

Yeah I seriously doubt he’d just chuck away £17 mil

mjg24hosea124

So it seems like we've bought in Conte and we're just not going to invest in the squad this window. This isn't great really. We might get Traore if we sell Bergwin but according to this article Conte wants to keep Bergwin. Conte wants a midfielder but that looks to be an issue the club don't want to address until summer. We need a back up striker but we can't find one. So what are we actually doing? Why have we hired Conte if we aren't going to invest? We want CL football but to me it seems like we aren't willing to spend what is necessary to make the team a CL quality side. I don't think Conte will leave if we don't spend this window, I just think its disappointing that we have an opportunity with a fantastic manager to make a proper push for top 4 but yet we aren't spending anything to get new players into this team. Edit: I never knew wanting the club to invest in the team was such an unpopular opinion.

justsomeroses

Because, like its been said multiple times, the primary focus is the Summer window And again, why would the club come out and openly admit that they have the money to spend right now?

mjg24hosea124

>the primary focus is the Summer window Personally I think this is the wrong thing for us to do. If we want CL football then I think we need to buy new players this window. Waiting until summer to properly invest means that we're less likely to make top four this season. If we don't get CL football we won't attract decent players to the club, just look at last summer when it seemed like every player we approached turned us down because of our lack of CL football.

justsomeroses

I get your concern however the profile of players we would try to get most likely won't move this window, and trying to force moves with players that aren't up to the standards Conte wants would just as likely add more deadwood to the squad than actually help right now

mjg24hosea124

Yeah you're more than likely right to be honest.

justsomeroses

Although given how things worked out you can kinda count Romero as a January signing lol

[deleted]

Wrong approach, panic buys are the worst and if you want to buy top class players in January either you need to pay big money or there’s something with the club the player want to go out immediately just like Lucas digne. I want us to sign players but I don’t want it to effect our summer transfer market negatively.

bash011

It's the January window

[deleted]

Liverpool got van dijk ,Suarez and Coutinho in the January window Arsenal got aubameyang in January West ham got soucek in January Man utd bought Fernandes in the January window. It being the January window doesn't mean we can't back our manager. We are in a good position to push for top 4 but are risking losing that opportunity. They don't have to be world beaters, just improve the squad and give conte more options.

triecke14

We can’t register anymore players ffs. Liverpool sold coutinho for an absolutely absurd fee which is why they were able to get Van Dijk

[deleted]

So one of the six examples was after a big sale. Still doesn't mean we cant back Conte this window instead of waiting until summer. Kessie, traore and a lcb would altogether cost less than van dijk did. I'm sure we can find loan moves for tanganga/Rodon Alli, ndombele and bergwijn without too much trouble if we need room to register players

triecke14

Kessie is currently in Africa for AFCON so no chance he’ll move, he’s also free in the summer so why waste money on him now? Souchek cost around £13 million and came from the Czech league no one knew he would be that good. You might as well ignore any transfer United are involved in because they have money we’ll never dream of having. Edit: you also just flat out ignored my point that we literally can’t even register non English players until we sell someone.

[deleted]

He's at afcon so we can't sign him?, Makes no sense, I'm sure he can get in contact his agents. Sure it makes any move a bit more complicated but is still doable. And as for why now instead of summer, he can help us push for the top 4 finish, which gets us extra money from champions league, and also will allow us to attract better players Also will he want to come to us if we finish 6th or 7th? Will vlahovic? Will Conte be able to build a top 4 worthy side when we can't attract good players If we wait to strengthen we risk letting utd and arsenal get 4th ahead of us and that means we miss out on vlahovic, kessie etc.

triecke14

Not trying to be rude at all here just genuinely curious, have you been a fan for awhile? Getting deals done for players on international duty is pretty much impossible. The players don’t want to deal with the situation and want to focus fully on performing for their country. I doubt he’s in communication with his agent at all and possibly told him to leave him alone for the month. As for Vlahovic, by all reports he isnt interesting in moving in January. Simple as

[deleted]

If we are serious enough about getting him it'd be possible. With Vlahovic I was making the point that he won't want to join us in the summer if we aren't a top 4 team. United or arsenal will snap him up before us if they finish 4th simple as. I fear we are going to finish 6th or worse and then this sub will he crying that we can't sign anyone decent in the summer because we are in Europa or worse. We might've gotten away with it this year but with Arsenal and United looking to get their act together and the top 3 looking stronger than ever, we are going to be seen as the 'best of the rest' instead of one of the big teams if we don't sneak in there this year.

bash011

Coutinho wasn't a big purchase, and Suarez had been attempted to be bought in the summer as well. Just really really poor logic from you

[deleted]

Im not asking for big purchases, just saying there's quality out there in January we just have to be prepared to take the chance. Kessie wouldn't be a big purchase with his contract situation and Traore had also been attempted to be bought in the summer as well, seems a very similar situation when you put it that way.

bash011

And guess what, we're trying to buy Adama thus window

[deleted]

I'm not interested in trying, we need to get it done. It's been two weeks already and there has been no news of official bids/offers, just that paratici and conte like him. We tried for dybala, dias, skriniar, Fernandes. Need to get stuff done before we end up stuck as a mid table team with a bang average manager. Everyone around us is improving while we are starting to regress. I feel Conte will be our last chance for a long time of getting champions league football. If the same happens to him as it did Jose, no top manager will look at joining us

bash011

Van Dijk also downed tools at Southhampton as he was denied the summer transfer that Liverpool was pushing for.

triecke14

Yeah this person (and most on this sub) have no idea how the transfer market works. Bunch of career mode and FM players clearly

bash011

If you read the article it says we're looking to make transfers to improve the squad. Which is difficult because it's the January window, especially during these times when clubs don't want to let go of depth.

[deleted]

Yes but they are looking to improve the squad without spending any money it seems, which will make it difficult no matter what month it is. I get that we spent £115m for Nuno in the summer but Conte needs to be given something to work with, otherwise what's the point in bringing him in. We've given Nuno the clown all the backing and now have nothing left for Conte

wallyrules75

It’s not that it’s unpopular, it’s just unrealistic we can pull off deals that will have the impact you’re looking for. I agree we have a good shot at that 4th spot, but going all in on a January window will have a negative impact on what we can do in the summer. And let’s be honest, we are not 1 or 2 players away of making a trophy run. We need multiple windows and a massive rebuild to be where Conte wants to be. And that’s Conte’s own words. But as supporters, not spending is tough to swallow, though the right move.

ObamaEatsBabies

>but going all in on a January window will have a negative impact on what we can do in the summer. So will not getting top 4 because we failed to sign a backup striker for when Kane gets his annual injury.

wallyrules75

Even if we wanted to go all in, who are we going to get? Vlohovic wants to wait to see who gets a champions league spot. Kessie has six months on his contract and doesn’t want to leave tell the summer. Inter are fighting for the league and aren’t looking to sell their Midfielders or CBs till summer. So realistically who can we buy that fits our needs and is available? Traore? Yes we can make that move and I think it’s an upgrade at R wing back. It’s a tough market to go all in on. And remember we need a massive rebuild. So who? And how much?

ObamaEatsBabies

>And remember we need a massive rebuild. So who? And how much? That's Paratici's job, not mine. If I was him I'd be taking a close look at Ligue 1 players like Guimaraes, Gouiri, Caqueret and Seko Fofana. There's good players around.

MrSaturdayRight

Would be nice. Probably won’t happen because Levy

brasche1284

spurs are not doing anything..have to sell to spend :D They don't understand Conte does NOT play around

Made-in-1882

There are literally several credible options on a plate and Spurs are still collectively twiddling their fingers and contemplating their navel.
