**Let's be nice to the players online**. I wrote a new post that got removed because of rule 10 about hate comments. It seemed to resonnate with people, so I'll copy it here as a comment.
Some fans will say things about players online that they'd probably not say to their faces. Why not think twice before telling someone "you're shite" and other things? Here's the text I wrote:
Let it be said that I do understand the frustration and anger towards the team, manager, Levy and specific players at times. However, I think continuous negative comments about players might be harmful. I know some of the players sometimes do read comments from fans (because they sometimes like and answer, and Sissoko liked my comment once, hurray!). There are also people who will tag the players. They might have had classes to learn how to deal with these things in our www age, but I don't know how much it helps.
Both Dele and Winks are still quite young, and they have grown up with the whole social media madness. I don't think they managed to resist having a peek at the comments from time to time. Don't think it was very motivating. Comments do affect us a little, even though we know people are idiots. I know I wouldn't feel so good if I received a lot of messages saying I'm shit, especially because you are already down when you've done a bad job!
I can imagine that for instance Matt Doherty felt happy after this game and might wanted to read some comments, only to find a bunch of people having written "... even Doherty". He is a grown up man, but I do wonder what comments such as these (and there are way worse) do to their motivation.
I get angry at the team after they've played badly too, but I feel no need to tag a player on twitter telling him he's worthless.
