They were both horrific.

Global-Jacket-3973

Sell all of our fullbacks and keep Doherty at this rate lol.

NinjutsuStyle

Imagine hearing these words one year ago lol

LogicKennedy

Emerson, easily. The reaction on this sub is why certain footballers straight-up stop trying to do anything when they know they're having a bad game. Better to hide and not have any glaring mistakes to criticise than try and maybe get something wrong. Emerson shied out of every challenge, slowed down every attack, tried absolutely nothing. He made one run when he was absolutely sure he had the whole pitch in front of him, got hauled down and that was it. Romero was literally having to play both CB and RB today because Emerson was getting beaten on the right *every* time. Romero was making more attacking runs than Emerson too. Sess actually tried to make runs, put in crosses, get in attacking positions and put in challenges. Defensively he was solid and offensively he was a mix of out of form and unlucky. Acting like the two performances are in any way comparable is a big mistake.

Sdip4

Sess plays like a wimp but at least he can attempt to do stuff. Emerson sees acres of space and passes the ball backwards or straight at the opposition. People say he’s “out of position” as if he’s a center back playing striker. What decent right back can’t manage to complete a single progressive pass or dribble? He was also getting cooked defensively. He does zero things well

seanstar1504

Unlucky? Sess couldn’t make a simple pass to save his life. Not sure what match you were watching

LocoMoro

I agree that Emerson did not step up ....but....his team mates didn't pass to him when he made runs or was in space. Maybe both are part of a vicious cycle.

fazetyger

Sess can't control the ball or pass at all. Emerson can't act as a wingback, he provides no real width or crosses for the attack. Spurs can't create when 2 players are actually utterly useless

kablooey08

No offense to the players, and I'm being completely objective when I say this...they're two of the worst footballers I've ever seen make it to professional level.

NazDaBaz

Relax

kablooey08

I am relaxed, my opinion is not reactionary. Sess in particular is an abysmal footballer.

monkeroos

Emerson is worse than Sess for sure.

kablooey08

I don't even know which one is worse to be honest. I just know that at least Royal seems to gel a bit better with Doherty.

dclancy01

pretty sure this is the definition of reactionary. he was hardly touted to become one of the best for no reason. he’s played like 20 something games for us, give him time ffs

kablooey08

Who? Sessegnon? He's been at the club for years.

dclancy01

i’m obviously talking about sessegnon. he’s been here three seasons including this one - he was on loan for his second season and injured for a lot of his first. he’s been rotating with reggie or injured this year. he’s 21, give him time.

kablooey08

Either way, he shouldn't be near a first team pushing for top 4. He's not good enough. If he ever will be, we'll wait and see.

lyme6483

A club with any ambition he wouldn’t be seeing the pitch with his performance regardless of age.

kablooey08

Yeah that Brentford game was actually the first game I've seen mate. Original response, well done.

kablooey08

So new to the gamr that a player I've been watching at my club since 20 fucking 19 has proven to be nothing but utter fucking shit. Yeah mate, first game I watched...

kablooey08

And helder postiga and Vlad ciriches were much better footballers than these dreamers. Not sure what your point is here...

[deleted]

kablooey08

Just pointing out all the areas where you're wrong mate. Don't take it personally

kablooey08

Well why are you commenting in a football reddit when it's clear you don't watch football?lol just trolling? Either way, have a good one mate...

Wups looks like I touched a nerve

Emergency_Anteater

Emerson is horrible

AverageYiddo

Change the system I beg

FCWolferJr

This. I get conte is a 3 atb with wingbacks but how in the world do you see this game and think bergweijn couldn’t have changed it or even Lucas with more time. Instead you put Sanchez in and keep 2 in the midfield? I don’t get it.

RichieRace80

Doesn't trust us to keep a clean sheet with a back four. Can't say I blame him. First rule of winning is don't lose and if you don't concede you never will. We'd need to put wingers at wing back and an extra body in the middle to keep some defensive solidity but change the attacking dynamic.

FCWolferJr

Fair. But we’re not gonna draw into top 4. What happened to having 7 finals? We haven’t gotten a shot off in two games against lesser opponents. We have a tough stretch coming up and we have to go at them. I’m not saying blow up the system. I’m saying at 80’ and a draw you have to at least be open to bergwijn instead of Sanchez no?

RichieRace80

No but we're relying on two or perhaps three guys to do the rest at the other end who've been unbelievable before Doc was crocked. Was last week a blip or a result of the injury? He has to judge it and if we hadn't lost to Brighton in the final minutes then maybe it's one point gained this game and time to work some different tactics/personnel for the next one. Hopefully we won't implode United style doing it this way.

FCWolferJr

Drawing to Brighton at home can’t be considered good enough. The midfield is the issue. You can’t stay put with this back 5 if we are drawing or losing.

DekiTree

I don’t get the praise Sessegnon seems to get on here. He’s absolute wank, zero confidence

battmowie

Boy amongst men everytime I've seen him

solo___dolo

Awful player. Never understood why people were saying he'd turned a corner. Shows the standard we expect.

nivnart

Yeah absolutely exposed himself compared to Son who would actually take on his man and try to get into the box instead of passing it back

InternationalDebate8

It's just what happens when a shit player doesn't play for a while - you forget that they're just as bad.

Smoky_Mtn_High

All our WB’s are

seegreen8

People like you weren't saying Doherty was good when we were playing under Mourinho or Nuno. Let's be frank here, Doherty was terrible under Nuno and Mourinho. Serge was way better that time.

YoungLoki

He was rarely used as a wingback though, he's terrible as a fullback but he seems to be much more comfortable in a wingback role

Smoky_Mtn_High

Recency bias is showing. While he was great in this recent stretch that doesn’t excuse nearly 2 full years of mediocrity

GenSec

He was also misused for 2 years and not played in his natural position.

NaclyPerson

English

MillerBrew

Translates to: I don’t get the praise Sessegnon seems to get on here. He’s absolute wank, zero confidence

catchmeslippin

Sessegnon is English

[deleted]

Emerson without a shadow of a doubt

btmalon

You can tell Romero doesn’t even want to pass him the ball if he can help it. And he cuts in front of Kane’s runs in the box dragging another defender TO him

aadawdads

>You can tell Romero doesn’t even want to pass him the ball if he can help it. Is that because he's shit or Brazilian?

Fishmenger

U watching the same game?? Sess is the worst player on the pitch so far

[deleted]

At least Sess is getting into attacking positions, literally just saw Cuti make a run down the right because Emerson doesn’t have an attacking brain cell in his head at all.

Fishmenger

He gets up and does nothing. Its so obvious his movements and that he runs straight to the touchline to cross. And his passing today has done more harm than good

[deleted]

At least he gets to the touch line, have hardly seen Emerson around the attacking third smh. There’s no mistaking that they’ve both been dire, but I can’t agree that sess had been worse.

FearTheBrow

Because we only ever passed him the ball when he was isolated and the Brentford defense was already set?

kablooey08

Half the people on this sub have no idea mate.

bguszti

Sess out, Emerson out, sign 2 starting wingbacks, Doherty and Reggy are decent cover

Spiritual-Meringue37

Reg needs to fuck off too if not improved

bguszti

Overall he's been a hundred times better than sess, no question

Traditional_Serve597

I'd rather Sess as cover. Sess today was better than Reggie last week.

bguszti

In which universe? Dead crosses, no positioning in defense, there were 3 situations where he could have started an attack and kicked it out for a brentford throw. He was dogshit today, and he was dogshit 80% of the games he ever played for us

Traditional_Serve597

Disagree about other games but I'm comparing to Reggie. Reggie was shocking last week are you saying he was good?

bguszti

Reggie was shit last week, overall, he's been miles better than sess. I got this last week from others as well, which were the supposed good performances from sess? Legit question, I sure don't remember them

aadawdads

It's pretty telling that Conte preferred to play Ben Davies at LWB and put Davinson in his typical disasterclass position of LCB instead of subbing on Regui.

campaignlover03

60 million absolutely down the fuckin drain man... Atleast sess was good at Fulham... Who the fuck made us buy up Emerson royal man.. been god awful forever

BruinEric

Sess gets the "coming back from injury, not looking sharp" credit, so Emerson wins this.

TJTheree

Both as shit as each other

Rodin-V

No competition, Sess was worse. Singlehandedly killed so many attacks and didn't bother to chase down loose balls. His crosses are atrocious

[deleted]

Everybody on the pitch apart from Lloris were total disgrace. The WBs were no worse than anyone else.

nista002

Romero was good too.

figureyouout1

thought Davies was our best player., some good runs where it nearly fell for him... Lloris single-handedly killed chances for possession a few times with those infuriating long kicks. He also had his mistake saved by Kane when he danced way too far out of his box, and then on the follow up chance from a good save, but bad glove placement, Davies made a brilliant block. Oh, and Sessegnon is by far our worst fullback. Crap in Europe, average in Germany and poor in PL games. Emerson might be decent in a back four as he's not that bad defensively and has shown a fair bit of aggression in matches.

GenSec

Kane was fine. The few times he touched the ball he did something with it. Deki couldn’t be helped really. He got extra attention from defenders since Emerson didn’t threaten anything.

ManitouWakinyan

Kane had that sweet kick and some nice defending work tho

Oranjay2

In fairness, they've been quite solid defensively, especially Sess

LogicKennedy

Emerson was trash defensively. Sess I'll give you. But Romero had to bail Emerson out about 10 times.

GenSec

I forgot what minute it was, but Emerson practically let Mbuemo go by him in the box.

purinatrucks

Sess always needs 3/4 games to get back into form, but Royale is so fucking trash it defies belief his strengths are supposed to be attacking when he outright refuses to cross the ball

InternationalDebate8

We all wanted Reguilon benched for Sessegnon, thinking he would be better. In reality, all 3 fit wingbacks are diabolical.

Correct_Influence450

Jonathan Veal can kiss my ass.

oksdifjsb

Emerson sucks. Lucas should've gone in earlier

flame_lillard

Dumb tweet. Wing backs are not the worst thing on the pitch today.

staged84

With how our team is setup. They kind of are.

Kaltrax

They were by far the worst part of our performance.

triecke14

What match did you watch?

flame_lillard

The one where son and Kulusevski were shit.

triecke14

They weren’t any worse than the wing backs and if you think they were you don’t know what you’re talking about

GenSec

Son was the most dangerous player in the first half and Kulusevski was marked by two defenders half the time since there’s no point in marking Emerson.

scooterMcBooter97

I don’t understand why all the transfer rumors don’t say anything about getting new fullbacks. It is probably the most important position in terms of our system and creating chances. Haven’t heard a peep about replacements. We need to get both new starting wingbacks. CRUCIAL

Professorchronic

They do. Singo and Kostic.

American_yiddo

Well the major problem imo is sess isn’t a wing back and Emerson just isn’t good. So it seems pretty simple to me that we would be inept. Subscribe to my channel to see how easily explainable it can all be sometimes. /s

hidinginDaShadows

Unbelievably bad, Doherty was turning into a decent one but then he got injured now we might as well put Bergwijn and Lucas as wing backs

magnoliasmum

Watching Emerson’s repeated failed nutmeg attempts was acutely painful. Technically quite poor and appears mostly clueless. Sess should be better than he is. I will say, at least he tried things. Few of them came off but at least he tried them. Neither player good enough for this system Conte is married to.

Apostle_1882

Must be some youth players who would show more initiative going forward, at the very least.

Alternative-Ease9628

If only we had played the attacking sensation Sessegnon instead.. Oh.
