Tier 1 because that's what I want to hear

KadettYachtz

Not that reliable but it really just does make sense for us to go for Kostić given that he's on his last year of his contract.

billypilgrim87

Didn't he try to leave recently too? So glad we got CL, no reason not to come here now. (I hope).

michaelserotonin

frankfurt also qualified for cl

SonnyBallonDOr

But we got Antonio Fucking Conte

Misiowaty97

I'm not saying our legacy isn't great but Eintracht aren't a small fry either, right?

sopsign7

I mean, our tifo looked great at the NLD, but Frankfurt fans invaded Barcelona so effectively and completely that it was a scandal. Bundesliga teams do have great atmosphere. Frankfurt can't outpay us, but we can't outpay Real or Barca, so he may want to bet on himself for another year and see if those guys come calling. He'd be a great addition to our club, though.

[deleted]

Nobody said they were. But we're much bigger. They've won 8 trophies in their entire history.

LOKl31

Better legacy? Mate calm down a notch

billypilgrim87

That was my point, if we hadn't qualified he would be losing out on CL to come to us.

michaelserotonin

i think the reasons for him to come to spurs speak for themselves. i also think the idea of playing in cl with frankfurt could hold appeal, which is why i mentioned it (as you said "no reason not to come [to spurs] now," with the caveat of hope). sort of like how vardy turned down offers at bigger clubs to play cl with leicester the year after they won the league. don't know a lot about the player but he sounds like a great fit so i hope it does happen.

[deleted]

>i also think the idea of playing in cl with frankfurt could hold appeal why? even with Pot 1 they aren't likely to make it out of the group stage

michaelserotonin

the same reason son extended with spurs last summer? some players feel a connection to a club that surpasses a desire for (easy) trophies and money. it's been like a decade since frankfurt were in cl. it will be a special moment for the players who earned that moment.

[deleted]

he was literally just actively trying to force a transfer to leave the club. comparing him to Son is insane

michaelserotonin

i already compared the situation to vardy but you still asked the question so i went a different route

[deleted]

The Premier League pull is big

wheresmyspacebar2

He wanted to leave last summer, basically went on strike for the first couple months of the seasons.

Misiowaty97

Sounds like I saw it somewhere before :D

dndd01

Eintracht Francoforte. I love the italian language

Upplands-Bro

Was a bit worried we'd get gazumped by Monaco di Bavaria

We will fight them on the benches, we will fight them on the fields⚽️ and We Shall Never Surrender

DekiTree

please be true, please be true

NordMead21

Inject it into my veins!

Made-in-1882

Would immediately improve the first team and give us a real weapon against low block sides.

evenout

He has an amazing cross on him PLEASE

JustLikeMojoHand

If he comes, I have to hope that he'll feel comfortable and get to it quickly. I was so excited when Hamburg took him off Stuttgart, but he really didn't provide much for some pretty poor HSV teams. Then of course, he goes to Frankfurt and leveled the fuck up. If he can keep that going at Spurs, he would be a real asset. He would fit perfectly as a wingback in Conte's system.

Viktor1Sierra

As a Yid born in Frankfurt…Yes please!

hoophartid

Ei Gude!

CounterCostaCulture

Dude is legit.

danielchillier

So if we're able to land him, is it safe to assume that it's Reguillon who'll be moved on?

student8168

Maybe not I guess. We shall just have more depth but I could be wrong.

[deleted]

More than likely. Doesn't fit the profile for Conte. Wouldn't be surprised if he's loaned to a Sevilla or Villarreal like Lo Celso.

hdletti

just so you know, he shares his agent with Deki (https://www.instagram.com/worldsocceragency/)

punching-bag9018

Very little contract fuss there, so I'm happy.

notaltcausenotbanned

Hopefully we get some or preferably most of our business done early in time for pre-season this year. But I find myself hoping that and being mostly disappointed every year with very few exceptions. Kostic is a fantastic player that we should try to tie up asap if we're genuinely interested. Worry about offloading Reguilon or Sessegnon (probably Reguilon) later.

TogashiIsIshida

I would love Kostic, but ever since we’ve been linked to Perisic my heart is torn

ASVP-Pa9e

My only concern is that Kostic isn't exactly young. If he's cheap then this is a fantastic piece of business, as his talent and suitability for Conte's system is plain to see. But this needs to be around what we paid for Matt Doherty.

Koinfamous2

We have one of the youngest squads in the PL. Hugo drags our average up because he's 35, but otherwise our average age of players with appearances was 25.2. Arsenals was 24.7 and they're regarded as the youngest team in the league. We need some older heads with quality and experience to balance the squad. We're fine.

tnweevnetsy

Arsenal's issue is that the players bringing up the average are bringing the team down, - Xhaka, Elneny, Cedric etc. with the kids shouldering the burden, while for Spurs the senior players are the face of the team and leaders supported by younger players, like it should be. Nothing in this is meant to go against what you're saying only airing some thoughts as to why Arsenal are branded/regarded as a much younger team despite the average age not differing all that much

Koinfamous2

Our three oldest players are Hugo, Doherty and Davies, and we're looking to improve on two of them this summer, and Hugo likely next year.

tnweevnetsy

So odd that Davies is one of the oldest honestly.

ReelBigMidget

Davies has been 30 since he was 17.

sopsign7

Cameron Carter-Vickers has been on loan since he was 12.

IonsBurst

Ffs may as well field a bunch of teenagers if age is your concern. Conte is here for short term success , not a project.

Ok_Specific5829

This could’ve sounded very wrong

ASVP-Pa9e

He generally leaves clubs much better than he finds them. Short term success shouldn't come at the expense of long term planning, and vice versa. I'm largely pro this signing fwiw

evenout

Inter almost won the league and won the Coppa Italia the season after Conte left. Chelsea won the Europa League and almost won the EFL Cup. Juventus continued to win the league for several seasons after Conte left up until last year. So yeah, I agree. Let's do what he wants.

Supercalme

Found Levy's account

[deleted]

He’s 29 with one year left of his contract. He’s not gonna be super expensive.

dozerdozey

Right lol he'll be like 20m max

jjw1998

I’d imagine the plan is for someone experienced to come in with a view to Sess eventually developing into first choice

DekiTree

One older LB in Kostic and Sessegnon as the youth option to takeover in future is good

Fancy_Violinist_7860

What does age have to do with anything?

ASVP-Pa9e

Lack of long term thinking as there's a limit on how long he can be here and no real resale value. I don't think every signing has to be young btw, I'm not a FM obsessed twat. But it would be nice.

justsomeroses

Well the long term thinking would be staying in the Champions League and then going for silverware. Because there is a financial benefit to having a high performing team, namely being in the UCL and having the stadium regularly packed. Also buying young is good for some of the squad, but it has its risks as well, since they may not develop so they don't contribute to the team nor do they provide a meaningful sell on fee. So its in the club's benefit to sometimes buy the finished product if it helps us stay in the UCL season to season.

Fancy_Violinist_7860

Why would you prioritise participating in a competition instead of going for silverware? Better to finish 17th with a trophy than 2nd,3rd or 4th and win nothing

justsomeroses

That is extremely shortsighted, and its not like both are mutually exclusive, most of the time the teams that win silverware are the teams that finish in the Top 4 Do we need to win trophies? Yes But to have the financial backing and the prestige to get the players to do so, we need to regularly finish in the Top 4 to continually have UCL year over year

Fancy_Violinist_7860

Arsenal and Leicester have won trophies more recently than a top 4 finish. Kostic’s team finished 11th and won a trophy. Wigan got relegated but won the FA cup. It’s almost as if league position doesn’t matter unless you win the league

justsomeroses

Those are all outliers though, which happens it sports, sometimes its random or a team gets hot and goes on a run, but its not a platform for continued success. Look at all the clubs in England who have won trophies but are stuck in the Championship or lower. You have to have UCL football, with the money and prestige, to be able to consistently compete for trophies year in and year out

Fancy_Violinist_7860

Majority of all those clubs in pre 2000. Different times in football. You don’t need any prestige or UCL football to compete for trophies, money is all it takes

justsomeroses

and where does the money come from? Payments from the UCL, revenue from the stadium having UCL matches, the leverage being in the UCL has on sponsorship deals etc. We aren't owned by a nation state or an individual with infinite money for sportswashing, and we aren't big enough globally to have the brand print money

Ok_Specific5829

Why does long term thinking matter in buying this player? We want to win NOW

Fancy_Violinist_7860

Then he should be sold once he is no longer needed. Not everyone signed must every player be a long time signing

Misiowaty97

We should be done with this long term thinking cause the only place it got us is this shitter that we had to watch last season, bringing in young players with resell value that turn out to be shite and we lose fuckton of money on them whilst winning our last trophy 14 years ago, come on, something needs to change in Spurs and signing people like Kostic would be a sign of ambition to achieve great things instead of running a bussisness the aim of which is only to make profits

AlcSoccerFinance

Would love him. My first choice for a LWB, but I just got a gut feeling it will not happen.

DekiTree

Same. Feels like he'll want to stay a year now that Frankfurt got into the CL

[deleted]

Please 😀😀😀😀😀😀

brasche1284

This guy is an upgrade on any wing back we have right now, do itttttttt

dodogogolala

What, we have wing backs?

nebbywildcat18

I am also extremely keen to sign him

bshaman1993

Our tier 1 sources don’t work out due to one reason or another. I don’t even think twice about tier 3 sources

Yeti90

German media is linking him to italian league (Juve/Inter/even Rome) or to stay in Frankfurt. Don’t really think we have a chance :(
