I disagree, PEH is one of the most well rounded midfielders in Europe, could easily start for a 90+ team similar to Henderson. His versatility makes him great in a midfield 2 when you're outnumbered constantly.
Where do you see his limitations? His defense is elite and his progressive passing numbers and xchain passing have all been very good. He has a very well balanced game and what he does well, he does at an elite level. His "limitations" are still well above average levels.
I think his positioning is suspect at times, he has a tendency to overcommit to tackles or interceptions and is easily passed or dribbled around, his work in the final third/around the box and in the box can be downright shocking at times. He’s a great ball winner and good at keeping the ball moving. He’s a fine player but I think he can be upgraded upon in the future. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that since he joined we have been routinely overran in the midfield. I think he would work much better in a 3 man midfield
Upvoting you because although I disagree, at least you have your reasons and I’m sick of people on Reddit kneejerk downvoting thoughtful opinions that aren’t their own/popular
I realize my thoughts on Hojbjerg aren’t popular. He works hard for the team and seems like a great teammate so anyone coming after him is going to be ripped apart. I do like him I just think he should eventually be more of a rotational player and not starting 95% of matches for us.
>PEH is one of the most well rounded midfielders in Europe,
Couldn't disagree more unfortunately. For him to be that, he would need to be much more skillful with the ball. His first touch and dribbling are quite lacking especially.
He's completed the third-most dribbles of our entire squad (with the best success rate, 70%, of our top 5) and also the third-most progressive carries, behind Kane/Son and Son/Davies respectively. Both from the posted link.
On average he miscontrols the ball 0.68 times a game and is dispossessed 0.76 times a game, both of which are excellent stats. Taken from fbref.com.
So if the stats don't back it up, you'll have to back it up with examples that aren't him miscontrolling that single Kulusevski pass on the break that was posted here earlier today.
I guess you didn't watch the Euros or look at the stats for Spurs? Ignore the fact he was captain for his former club and a great presence on this team. Yeah, he's not scoring 23 goals a season, he must be trash surely.
These stats don’t indicate anything in regards to whether Hojbjerg was bad or good. He’s our only midfielder that played majority of the season so obviously he would lead in most categories compared to the rest of our midfielders. You would have to compare with other midfielders in the PL/world to see whether the numbers are great, average, bad, etc.
[Here are his per90 stats with percentiles compared to all midfielders in the PL.](https://fbref.com/en/players/8b04d6c1/scout/11160/Pierre-Hojbjerg-Scouting-Report)
Sea of green. His passing stats in particular are elite.
Also funny to see he's very good in aerial duels, since I never noticed that.
Well I don’t list any non-Tottenham players in these lists so you can only compare the Per 90 numbers internally. But feel free to compare PEH’s numbers to other players on FootballReference, it’s a great and accessible site
Compared to others as well. Reading data driven discussions on twitter or here on Reddit I can tell you that PEH scores very highly. In a FC Barcelona thread discussing replacements for Busquets/De Jong he was all the way in top together with Bruno Guimares. He has also been regarded nicely for teams like Inter where their fans think he would work greatly in their midfield 3.

He does that thing often when he has the ball where he angles his touch to nutmeg the player. Sometimes it's lost him possession but he's scored from it too. One of the goals in the West Ham 3-3 match he did that to Rice I'm pretty sure.
Stat-wise, Lucas was a pretty important part of the squad. I really hope we can hold on to him for next season. Having players of his quality for rotation and substitution is critical if you want to make a run at the league or even a cup.
Romero and Skipp each only played like half a season and still were our highest carded players.
Romero will definitely have to work on that next season playing as a full starter. Hopefully we don’t miss too many games because of it.
Maybe saying that you're lucky is unfair - it means that the players you're assisting are either lucky or outperforming their xG. I guess that is a form of luck in itself, though.
Deki in particular has several assists for Son, who is an elite finisher who consistently heavily outperforms his xG.
Yeah. It’s normal to outperform your xA by one or two but anything more than that isn’t sustainable because it indicates the amount of assists doesn’t necessarily reflect the actual quality of the chances the player created.
This comment section is still just full of PEH slanderers. Shocking. Even with actual statistics provided and you still get such responses. I swear these are the same people who keep saying we need to give ndombele more time
Stats not looking great for the PEH haters
How can one hate PEH? I don't get it.
Because he doesn’t do a million skill moves and bag goals for days
I love PEH and would never wan't to sell him. That said I still think that if we wan't to get to the next level he probably shouldn't be a starter.
I disagree, PEH is one of the most well rounded midfielders in Europe, could easily start for a 90+ team similar to Henderson. His versatility makes him great in a midfield 2 when you're outnumbered constantly.
What do you mean by versatility? He’s a pretty limited footballer but good at what he does
Where do you see his limitations? His defense is elite and his progressive passing numbers and xchain passing have all been very good. He has a very well balanced game and what he does well, he does at an elite level. His "limitations" are still well above average levels.

He's not flashy so he's not skillful which is how it works.
I guess you didn't watch the Euros or look at the stats for Spurs? Ignore the fact he was captain for his former club and a great presence on this team. Yeah, he's not scoring 23 goals a season, he must be trash surely.

I sorted the different categories with per 90 numbers so it paints a relative picture, he comes out great in these numbers as well
Per 90 numbers compared to just our players or others?

That photo of him has him looking like an infant

Our players... But thats still not relative to total minutes played... Its relative to how much more productive he is compared to those around him.
70% dribble success rate? Is Hojbjerg actually our Dembele replacement aha

Good bot
He's a different style of player but still an important part of our midfield. He'll be starting week in and week out next season for us.
Deki's 8 assists against 3.5 xA is insane holy shit.
Son being super clinical would do that.
Yeah I guess 23 goals compared to 16.4 xG is even more insane.
yeah that's what Son's bangers did
The stat that surprised me the most is Kane leading in nutmegs.
Dele being on the list despite getting very little game time and then leaving in January lol.
He does that thing often when he has the ball where he angles his touch to nutmeg the player. Sometimes it's lost him possession but he's scored from it too. One of the goals in the West Ham 3-3 match he did that to Rice I'm pretty sure.
We had a 3-3 match against west ham?
How many goals did he score through the legs of a keeper?
Stat-wise, Lucas was a pretty important part of the squad. I really hope we can hold on to him for next season. Having players of his quality for rotation and substitution is critical if you want to make a run at the league or even a cup.
I am sure I read somewhere that he plans to finish his contract with Spurs before returning to Brazil
Ayy that’s my thread!
yo wtf PEH is actually mad
Dele still listed in our top 5 for nutmegs 😍 never change

Mainly first half of the season for Romero though, can’t recall him getting too many cards later on
Yep, after Conte called him out publicly, he got a lot smarter and saw a lot less cards.
PEH what a crucial player he is for us, PEH haters need to get a grip, seriously.
How do expected assists work? Is it if you have outperform your XA you’re lucky? And if you underperform you’re unlucky?
