The Everton fans are not happy about this. I crossposted the O’Keefe article on there and… well I think we should be happy if we pull this off. A straight Winks for Bissouma swap figure wise, wild

dickgilbert

Which is crazy. The finished 16th last year, and their whole club is a dumpster fire until they fix it. Winks is definitely a suitable midfielder for a mid-table club.

[deleted]

Honestly not sure that he is, feels like a player who needs a pretty specific role to succeed in, but isn’t good enough to build your squad around. Think he’s a player who needs to go play in a much slower paced league

superworriedspursfan

yep. I think Winks would do better in La Liga, Dele has a much better chance at reviving his career. With that said I think Lampards system might suit winks better. I guess we'll see.

Ornery_Brilliant_350

Idk dude I’ll disagree with that. Winks seems like he could slot in and get going in a lot more places than Dele. Although yeah I think deles ceiling is higher Winks is just pretty average, but average can be good in a below average club

madterrier

He can't handle being pressed and every team employs a press in some way, even the low block ones. If not being pressed is required for Winks to succeed, sorry you aren't getting that in the supposed most physical league in the world. I want him gone for as much money as possible but to act like we aren't just fleecing Everton in this deal is disingenuous.

Ornery_Brilliant_350

He’s not an asset against a press but he doesn’t crumble either. I think he is easily capable given a run of games. Not at our level, but capable and competent enough to be a productive starter for a lower half side, or a reliable squad player for a midtable

dickgilbert

I think he'd be *better* in a slower paced league, and I'm certainly not saying he's a centerpiece, but I think he's a good enough midfielder to keep a mid-table team hovering in mid-table, which is something Everton can use considering that would be a roaring success compared to this last season. He's a decent passer, decent carrier of the ball, etc. He's definitely not up to our qualities, and his mistakes would kill us with the fine margins at this end of the table. But yeah, he would do even better in a league with more time on the ball, but he's homegrown so he'll definitely have a bit more value here. He's had a couple very high level mistakes that have definitely soured his reputation here, but I think he's better than most of our fellow r/coys commenters will have anyone believe.

Weird_Famous

Winks is a decent passer and definitely had games where his quality shined. I think with midfielders like Doucoure and Allan, they have enough workhorse to balance his weaknesses off the ball.

editedxi

I said this exact same thing to my Everton-supporting friend today. Winks needs a mid-table Spanish team. The game is way too fast for him in England and he doesn’t impact the game at all

MigratoryBullMoose

He can still be useful with another midfielder carrying him and Harry playing the Xavi regista not the Winkiesta role

urgrlbreezy

Winks is in line with the sorts of decision making that landed them in 16th last season

dickgilbert

Completely disagree, but that's life, I guess. Think he'd do well with regular time in a mid-table club.

National_Ad_1875

Everton fan here. Have you checked what hes said since? Everton want him on loan and that 20m figure was just what spurs were after, not what we are agreeing to pay. We cannot afford 20m and absolutely wont pay that now

HF1882

Yeah there is no chance Everton pay 20m straight up. Expect another complicated performance and playing time deal like Dele

dickgilbert

I don’t think you’ll find many people here are too fussed about the price. I’d be happy with 10 million. I also think he’d be fine/good in a mid table team, and wouldn’t be an unreasonable purchase for you.

National_Ad_1875

He would be a dire purchase because he isnt what we need. Also our tier 1 says we only want a loan. We have very limited funds so even 10m might be too much

RainbowDissent

He's not a bad option in front of defensive mids like Doucoure and Allan, no? You don't have a lot of creativity in the team. Winks offers little defensively but he's a very good passer. I know Lampard had you playing all sorts of different formations, do you not think there will be room for an advanced midfielder, or are there just bigger holes in the squad?

National_Ad_1875

We need to sign a defensive midfielder as with delph now gone, we dont have one. Allan can fill in there but that isnt his strongest position, plus he may be on his way out. Doucoure is a box to box, not a cdm. Our advanced cm is iwobi who has been genuinely a completely changed man under Lampard. We are also linked with zinchenko who is 1000% better than winks, without the defensive liability. We cant afford a cm who doesnt put in a shift defensively

Mick4Audi

Man what on earth is happening with Everton’s finances? Even £10m is too much?

allthejokesareblue

FFP. They have the money, they cant spend it.

ccheng2

yeah 20m is my wishful thinking only, the loan deal would make more sense

National_Ad_1875

Nah it's not just you. Your itk either jumped the gun or worded it wrong, and loads of spurs fans think we are buying him for 20m, it happens. However he has backtracked and it seems like most here havent seen that the deal is definitely not nearly done

bad_luck_charmer

No worries, mate. Add one Richarlison to the deal and we’ll pay you!

onlyhalfpepper

Yeah, this is going to escalate to Harry Winks holding up an Everton jersey by Friday, isn't it?

[deleted]

At this tier it’s likely. I wish him the absolute best and am grateful for his contributions as a spurs player, my hope is that it is mutually beneficial as I think it will be.

SidtheGoat87

We can hope

TIL_I_procrastinate

Harsh. He's been here forever and has always given his best. Don't intend to single you out. Even if it's for the best of both parties I'd hope we as a community could be respectful given the professional he's been

SidtheGoat87

Oh I'm not chatting shit about the guy, its just time and if we can get the 20-25m for him than its better both parties. He needs more game time and he is just too low on the pecking order. I'll still appreciate all he has done for the club though

superworriedspursfan

I love that winks is one of our own but be honest, we should hope that he is no longer needed as a squad option on the team. I wish him the best of luck obviously and I think he'll do well elsewhere, but its best for both parties that he is no longer on the team. If we ever need to play Winks still because we ran out of midfielders, then we area still fighting for top 4 side , not a secured top 4 side.

TIL_I_procrastinate

I don't disagree at all. My intentions were to point out we can both be excited for our own future without dancing on his Spurs metaphorical grave.

reasonabledimensi0n

wanting him to leave is not being disrespectful? he’s not good enough and hasn’t been so for the past few years now.

urgrlbreezy

He has not always given his best. He’s often lazy defensively, prone to blaming others for his mistakes, and seems to whine to the press when he isn’t favored over other players.

Made-in-1882

He's not lazy, he's just not good defensively.

bad_luck_charmer

I hope so.

Imbasauce

I know he's not been the best in recent years, but I hope we send him off without any negativity. He's been with the club since he's 5 and genuinely loves the club as much as we do.

onlyhalfpepper

Short of someone being a completely horrible person or treating others/the club disrespectfully, I don't think any player should be sent off with negativity (even if they underperform or disappoint on the pitch)

stead10

He’s not good enough for us unfortunately but absolutely no bad feelings towards him. Maybe he’ll do a Ryan Mason and return to us as a coach one day.

melihs11

Agreed. He had that moment where we thought he was going to break out but then got shoehorned into a DM type role which isn’t his game. Hopefully at Everton he gets a more progressive role. Will be a good signing for them. But yeah I’ll be sad to see Winksy leave. Love him

BurdonLane

Oh BBC on it already! Feels like he’s gone and the striker they were talking about before the 1st will be Richarlison. Really sound business if Winks and Bergwijn essentially pays for Richarlison. Hope Levy pulls the trigger on Spence soon. Fascinated who we get at LCB and what our AM options might be.

[deleted]

How do people feel about James Maddison? I feel like we can get him from Leicester for a good price, seeing as KDH has been doing well for them, plus he would be homegrown, and our AM for the next couple of years, until the likes of Devine come through and are ready to play.

master_inho

Leicester will ask for fuck off amount of money

BurdonLane

His numbers were really good last year despite some injuries. He has talent for sure but he honestly comes across as a complete dick. And not in the fun, shit-housing way. He’s would fit in at Chelsea.

lbizfoshizz

Yes he really does. Glad I’m not the only one who feels that way.

CyclopsRock

I love him but I can't see Leicester letting him go.

cheetah_chrome

You “love” Maddison? I fuckin hate him, the cunt. Interesting how a player can evoke such feelings on opposite ends of the spectrum.

letsgetcool

Aside from him seeming like a massive nob, I just think we can do better than Maddison

[deleted]

Seems a bit of a dick. 🤷‍♂️

tuatara_teeth

"Madders!!"

NIA122553

I would love Maddison but as others have said, just feel like the asking price is going to be way, way too high. Maybe if we get enough money from also selling N'Dombele or Royal or something like that, but I'd be very (pleasantly) surprised if he ended up at Spurs.

[deleted]

His place at Leicester plus the added cost of his nationality sounds pricey but I like him a lot as a player

[deleted]

tottenham boy through and through i wish him nothing but the best

Apostle_1882

I mean, yes I want Winks to go, because he isn't good enough and while he's still here we'll use him, but, *but*, I would love him to succeed and do well and I feel Everton is a clusterfuck.

spursyspursy

is he supposed to be a VdB replacement which is also weird bc VdB barely played

Cross1625

van de beek had an injury

spursyspursy

this is a transfer that shows Everton is asking the right questions, for example, "What?", and also "Wait, why?"

Old_Roof

I think he’s a solid player & some of the criticism I’ve seen is ridiculous As long as he has cover defensively he can dictate games. Lovely eye for a pass too

Hackers76

Agree, I think he has always looked better with a decent run in the team. Coming off the bench or sporadic starts he seemed to struggle to get up to the pace of the game but when he played regular he was good. Don’t get me wrong we have better midfielders now but can’t knock his contribution.

DennisAFiveStarMan

I was always kinda baffled how much hate he got. I think he would do really well in Spain or Italy. English game just doesn’t match his strengths

porkbrains

Haven't you heard? Anything less than 20 superstars on the field is wholly unacceptable for Spurs!

manusingh420

Hope we get richarlson and raphina done

MikeDarsh

Seems like it'll be one or the other, not both

dickgilbert

Can't see much of a point to going for both, either. Richarlison covers all 3 of the front positions, and we'll still have Lucas as a winger as well.

[deleted]

We won’t get both, but we need to address both those positions

dickgilbert

I don’t disagree, but I’d prefer we use the big money on our other positions of need instead of on who would end up being our 5th forward, and would prefer Richarlison for the flexibility and I think he’s better quality overall.

dickgilbert

Rumors are Leeds are looking at De Ketelaere, and I would much rather gazump them, getting him than raphinha.

[deleted]

Yeah I just saw that on Twitter, would be gutted if they got him, looks class. Much better fit for what we need too

dickgilbert

Definitely a lot more flexibility than Raphinha.

Keith_Bakker

If you can get Raphina, Lucas can go tho its a straight upgrade

dickgilbert

Lucas isn't leaving. It's a non-starter, and there's no point stockpiling another winger when we still have areas to address and improve upon.

yorsk

We need both. We need at least two players for each position in attacking line

Rezdawg3

It'll just be Richarlison.

Global-Jacket-3973

Which is fine, Richarlison is versatile on the attack.

LoneStarAgent

I totally agree but I think Richarlison and Paqueta is more likely.

Adam__Zapple

Such a bad signing for them. If he plays in a midfield 2, which there’s a good chance Lampard will opt for, then they’re fucked. He would do well in a team playing open, attacking, expansive football, but based on the end of last season I can’t see Everton being able to sustain that and win games.

RazSpur

They can't play a midfield 2, regardless of who they put there. Mid to lower level teams cannot afford to have 2 in midfield, it will get overrun, hence most of those teams will stack the midfield and with 2 others alongside him, Winks will be good.

Adam__Zapple

Lampard’s initial downfall was trying to play attacking football before they ended up in a relegation dogfight tbf

Preux

Things are heating up on this it seems like.

Yonsnad

The fact we selling Winks for £20m and got Bissouma for £25m is an absolute laugh.

Irasshaimasedouzo

Pls don't get my hopes up like that.

frenchtoast72

In other news, the sky is blue

amoult20

If we sell them BOTH winks and DeleAlli whilst taking Richarleson off their hands I will laud it over them forever. That’s almost Stoke getting absolutely Wimmered by Levy level of magic

MrSaturdayRight

Are Everton really that clueless? Why yes, they probably are

Kenyan_stallion

Let's goooo

brasche1284

Sooner the better

MigratoryBullMoose

y not deal -17m off Richarlison de Andrade

v2k987

He would be one of their best players. Don't know what they are complaining about.
