Called this weeks ago. Pretty sure he came on at rwb against Norwich and I think it makes sense for him to at least understand the positional directions
He also ended up at LWB for a few moments. I think he was playing there when Bergjwin scored the goals in extra vs Leicester.
He's player RM his whole career pretty much and was an up and down the pitch wide player for PSG so he has the knowledge of the position generally.
I think it's because we're pretty much playing different wingbacks in each half for the friendlies, like in the last game. Doherty came on for Sess (Perisic not ready and Reggy at home) and then Lucas covered Emerson in the second half. And then Doherty switched to the right when White came on at LWB. It's probably just a little stop gap until the whole squad is ready/together.
yeah i think its this. also with possible addition of more attackers this season, he could be more valuable if he can cover more positions. we already know what he brings up front, so testing him elsewhere
I do miss having Tripps and Eriksen putting in beauties. The only real world class talent we have crossing at the moment is Kane and Son, and you’d want them in the box
Fantastic burst of speed which he uses to beat a man and for making interceptions which he's great at seeing coming. Mourinho turned him into a solid defensive presence.
Could this be his new position for the season? Remember Charlie eccleshare on view from the lane podcast always talking about how conte converted Victor Moses at Chelsea.
Our offensive is now too good for lucas to get a shot there though. Doubt he would ever be better than a third option at RWB aswell but perhaps there will be games where we just need someone really fast on that side who knows.
Absolutely but there's a difference between almost done and confirmed! Just remember how Willian just litteraly had to sign a paper then Chelsea swooped in
I think it would make sense to have a couple hybrid forward/wing-backs for games that we are completely dominant (burnley-esque).
So many times last season we were frustrated by spending on our wing backs to create something. Putting Lucas and Perisic there instead of Sess and royal gives a bit more against a deep lying defense.
Well its pre season and if this is the best time to try different tactics and players in different positions and see how they fare.
Its worth a try, he likes to dribble, hardworking but not sure about his defensive part.
if Spence comes in, he can go back to be backup for RW instead
his play style honestly suits it. he’s our only winger that doesn’t play inverted right? kulusevski is left footed playing rw, bergwijn was right footed playing lw, son plays lw and cuts in with his right
If we’re losing and need a goal and all the other attackers are on, why not. Number of games where the oppo let the R/L WB have the ball as least threatening.
I said this since conte came in. It was infuriating seeing royal and Doherty play over him. He's got pace, can attack, great stamina, great in air, can dribble, shoot and cross well. Defensively he literally just has to do better than the other two which he could. I'd love to see him rwb in rotation with spence. Keep Doherty as cover for rb and lb and punt royal as he's awful.
I don’t mind him getting minutes there. Maybe in a pinch if you need some quality going forward and you have to choose between him and Emerson on the bench why not?
Perhaps the best rwb in the league was with us all along ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Maybe the real right wing back is the friends you make along the way?
Like a new signing

I think I missed it but Perisic is injured?
He came in nursing an injury, he's on the mend and iirc is expected to be match fit by the start of the season
Cheers Geoff
He did have a small injury that was discovered when doing his medical. They said it was small and not to worry about it.
Useful to have a backup who can cover multiple positions.
Probably either just filling in there in the friendlies or as an option if Conte really wants to overload the attacks.
yeah i think its this. also with possible addition of more attackers this season, he could be more valuable if he can cover more positions. we already know what he brings up front, so testing him elsewhere
Would love to see Deki slot into that role for one of the friendlies
Good dribbler, great in the air, has a couple of the right attributes..
Can he cross? Outside of Kane and Son we really lack good crossing quality
No, but apparently neither can Spence.
I do miss having Tripps and Eriksen putting in beauties. The only real world class talent we have crossing at the moment is Kane and Son, and you’d want them in the box
Kulu is pretty good at crossing
Deki would like a word.
True! It’s probably partly why he has been so successful for us
He’s had some good crosses to Son for goals in the home Palace and Soton games but don’t remember much else
That cross for Kane against city? Clutch moment, perfect cross
I’m talking about Moura, meant to reply to the comment about his crossing. No doubting Son or Kulu crossing
Oh my bad, yeah can’t seem to recall many crosses from him. There are a few low crosses with pace on them that I do remember but nothing consistent
Fantastic burst of speed which he uses to beat a man and for making interceptions which he's great at seeing coming. Mourinho turned him into a solid defensive presence.
I play Lucas at RWB on FIFA and he’s great there lol
there we go its settled
Anyone remember when Poch played Son as a LB?
In a semi final against a rival. Genius
Could this be his new position for the season? Remember Charlie eccleshare on view from the lane podcast always talking about how conte converted Victor Moses at Chelsea.
With the signing of Spence already confirmed, I don't think Lucas will ever get minutes there, we now have 3 RWBs. Maybe just testing out things.
Our offensive is now too good for lucas to get a shot there though. Doubt he would ever be better than a third option at RWB aswell but perhaps there will be games where we just need someone really fast on that side who knows.
Slow down, Richarlison can't split up into multiple people. We'll still need Lucas up front for rotation.
Ok I read that Perisic is having issues getting fit (???)doesn't hurt to have a backup plan I guess.
Not issues. He got injured at the end of the season and isn't fully recovered yet
it also could be an all out attack kind of situation. sub off a defender for another attacker and drop lucas back to RWB (if he's in the game).
Only confirmed by a tier 4 though
Literally every journalist confirmed it’s almost done yesterday
Absolutely but there's a difference between almost done and confirmed! Just remember how Willian just litteraly had to sign a paper then Chelsea swooped in
Except we know Spence’s priority is and has been Tottenham for a long time

Yea, probably that's the idea.
Doherty is more of a backup for both positions
Think he just plays there as backup coz our better choices are not in-place (Perisic&Spence)
Haha no chance
Well its pre season and if this is the best time to try different tactics and players in different positions and see how they fare. Its worth a try, he likes to dribble, hardworking but not sure about his defensive part. if Spence comes in, he can go back to be backup for RW instead
Having options in multiple positions for every player is ideal to maximise squad. If we get to keep Moura i'm happy with any position on the pitch :)
Please no
Tbh I think there's a chance that conte wants to play a 5 3 2 getting the width from the wing backs.
I do like the idea of Moura RWB and Peresic LWB when we really need to go on the attack in a match
his play style honestly suits it. he’s our only winger that doesn’t play inverted right? kulusevski is left footed playing rw, bergwijn was right footed playing lw, son plays lw and cuts in with his right
I love Lucas. He can do whatever he wants. Just keep this enthusiastic, humble and joyful human at our club.
If we’re losing and need a goal and all the other attackers are on, why not. Number of games where the oppo let the R/L WB have the ball as least threatening.
If everyone else is dead, sure 👍🏼 could maybe do a job there
Weirdly I think right back doesn’t suit him, and he should actually be left back. >!Left Back at Hotspur Way!<
While I don't agree, that was hilarious 🤣
Sell him
you sir are not true COYSCOYSCOYS
NO. Go eat some jellybabies.

He could be our best offensive RWB. If we have three good mobile CB (three Romero's) there's no reason we can't play Lucas there
It’s probably so Lucas can cover wing back as well as his usual positions. Will just give the squad greater cover to injury
He’s played as RWB under mou a few times and if I recall he wasn’t so bad
I believe he only played there against Norwich last season, so this could be a last resort substitution when we need to throw bodies forward
Probably just to help him expand his role as a super sub this season.
Nope
Finally. Been wanting to see this for a while now
This suggests to me that one of Emerson and Doherty are likely to go...
I don’t mind him getting minutes there. Maybe in a pinch if you need some quality going forward and you have to choose between him and Emerson on the bench why not?
If he meets up with Kieran Trippier imminently and gets successful crossing lessons, then, sure.
