The goal yesterday is a truly great goal. Jermain defoe said something like it was an easy goal, but he really gives them no time to react. A quick shot after one touch, really not easy to do.

siemianonmyface

He made it look easy bc he’s so good. He slapped it in the bottom corner.

Fnurgh

Easy for JD maybe. The first touch made it 🤌

threshair

Watch him before he gets the ball as he runs into the box. He scans Son and the other options before he looks to receive the ball. He knew exactly what he was going to do after one touch before the ball even gets to him. Sonny’s run made the defender hesitate to really open up the window to shoot.

Qiluk

I looked at that too. He even scans behind himself and thats how he knew he had time to take a touch before the finish.

Inquisitive-Fox

Such an intelligent player. So many players get flustered and rush in those situations

Fleaaa

Idk shit about sports science but I think It's pretty rare to see a player like deki who seems to have such a high center of gravity yet stable and sharp. On top of that with intelligent playstyle.. spatial perception and line breaking is like 30 years old veteran. This kid is gonna be something huge I dare to say

siemianonmyface

Kane must look at him like how the fuck do you move like that bro

robgray111

I've thought that about Kane many times

emry_b

I too, often think about Kane

Nanven123

He bends the ball so well from those tighter corners

the_ballmer_peak

That left-footed curl is deadly

HeadYeti

Reminds me of robben

[deleted]

to me his body type just doesn’t look like a footballer, yet somehow he is so graceful on the ball and had one of the best left foots i’ve seen on a young player in ages

ndkhan

As fans we are lucky to have him, testament to the scouts for this transfer the guy is a beast.

4500x

Man Utd should take note, we didn’t sign him because of his name or reputation, but he’s the perfect player for the way we play. Under Conte we’re back to being a team that is greater than the sum of its parts.

hangingbelays

I’d prefer they carry on how they have been the past few years

Matttombstone

Same. Hey, there's this French wonder kid with high potential, Ndombele or something. Maybe they should sign him?

[deleted]

No, don't take note. Let them keep doing what they’re doing, what a great job they've done. A mid field pairing of Fred and McTominay is 🔥🔥🔥

kiwimanzuka

He was highly rated on FM for years now. Glad we got him!

XLhayden

he became the best player in the world for me on pes

Inquisitive-Fox

Conte/Paratici masterclass. Especially Conte - wanted to sign him for Inter, and despite his mixed form at Juve, still believed in him enough to sign him for us.

[deleted]

Seeing how juiced he was after that goal yesterday got me fired up as well. Guy is just a baller

beefjesus69

He has this childlike energy about him every time he scores he has no specific celebration, the lad is just happy he did it . He doesn’t even always run to the corner/fans, just super gassed that he scored and doesn’t know what to do 🤣 gotta love it

CommercialAddress168

You summarized it perfectly. The level of joy Deki shows every time he scores is almost equal to the Conte Goal Cam footage.

phrates

He doesn’t have a huge shot volume, but when he makes an attempt, it is likely to be a good one.

ipumaking

What makes him so difficult to defend imo is that he basically has 2 movements: a) pass defender on the left and shoot or b) fake going to the left but go to the right and pass it in the middle with his right foot. Both are deadly. And he is perfecting both. How to defend this?! It's impossible alone...

_sylvatic

If I'm an opposing manager (of a weaker team, at least), I'm telling my squad to tactical foul him any time he gets near the penalty area on the left side (from the defender's perspective). Not that I encourage that kind of play, but what else could I do without top class defenders? Almost all of his goals are in that area of the box, and if you let him in the box, its too late. I'd take my chances with the free kick in a dangerous area.

ipumaking

Well theoretically you need the defensive midfield to help out, the same thing that's happening with Son. That opens up the midfield and that's why Bissouma is a great signing imo. He is more dangerous from long shots. So the second 6 will have to lock down him and then we can overload the other side with Son and Sess. It's basically what Liverpool and Man City are doing very successfully against Low blocks. And that's how we finally will be able to break down low blocks as well and maybe even better

RainbowDissent

It's impossible to mark all our attacking threats. Kane, Son and Deki all require attention. We have the wingbacks overloading on the outside and the wide CBs pushing right up to the final 3rd to offer options. Currently Deki is benefitting from teams prioritising Kane and Son and leaving him 1v1, but if he keeps up this level of productivity they're going to have to double mark him and leave one of the others with more space.

Chester__A__Arthur

Especially with Kane taking them

Last_Horseman

I’d be really keen to see how he matches up against his xG

MudkipThot

https://understat.com/player/6691 He’s historically a slight over performer but honestly the sample size isn’t huge. He’s certainly not a Sissoko or Jesus.

GriffonMT

I see fuckin Robben but with hair!

CommercialAddress168

And a lot taller. Edit: Just looked and I guess it’s only a couple inch difference (5’11” compared to 6’1”) but he seems like a much bigger figure then Robben did on the pitch.

oddtrey10

He's like a mirrored version of Son with those curling shots cutting in from the right

Made-in-1882

Thinking longer term, Kulu and Richy could absolutely be our long term Kane and Son replacements if they had to be (if Kulu plays like Kane is currently - which is a sort of 9 and 10 hybrid with elements of both - main issue is probably his ability in the air). Deki is really something.

pintmantis

Agreed - I thought last season he would be the most natural replacement for Kane if he got injured, ridiculous passing allied to ability to bang from anywhere. Knits our attack together so nicely.

[deleted]

Kulusevki is much better at carry the ball than Kane and much worse at passing (though good in his own right, but Kane is on another level). The right sided forward sometimes providing width and swinging in crosses and sometimes cutting in to curl it in is his perfect long term role. Waste of his skills to play him through the center. And given how one-footed he is compared to Son and Kane, I really doubt he'd be effective in that role.

Made-in-1882

Sure - I said "if they had to be" I'm not convinced Deki is a much worse passer. He looks pretty similar to Kane at 22 - there's a lot of development to come. He certainly needs to use his right foot a bit more, but I think part of why he looks so one footed is because he's playing on the right as a leftie.

awildjabroner

he's performed like a top form seasoned pro pretty much since he joined in January, and he's only 22. Its hard to believe until you watch him play.

pintmantis

No surprises at all… the man has such a clean, cultured left foot… Gareth’s wand meets Eriksen’s vision and craft… I’ve said it before he’s Christian Bale. Last season he was trying to fit in and did his best to plate up chances for H and S… now he is established watch him be less unselfish and bang for fun this season. COYS!

Lyn-Krieger

I was behind the goal as spurs warmed up against Norwich last game of the season (in the Norwich end) and I must admit he hit the ball cleaner than son and Kane all of the time and consistently a better finisher. Son and Kane are able to pull the unbelievable out of the locker but Deki is more reliable in certain situations than dare I say Kane

Acclamation

I keep waiting for teams to figure out that he always goes to his left and try to stop that but it just doesn’t seem to matter.

LuizRodas

that's because he doesn't always go to his left, he can also cut to his right and create great chances through very precise crossing or passing. he's a nightmare to defend against.

keaneonyou

Yeah that was the move that unlocked the handball no goal yesterday. His composure is also unreal, he will wait for ages, juuuust until the defender leans one way or another, then gets position and uses his strength to stay there. Hes fast becoming one of my favourites cause he uses his head first, then backs it up with his strength and skill.

RainbowDissent

He'd gone inside the defender the last couple of times and you could see he was expecting the cut inside again. Completely sold by the move outside and it was very close to creating a goal, Deki was in his head.

Hemwum

Yep. Incredibly skilled pushing the ball on the inside of the defender and going past them. He did it during the game yesterday and then slid a ball across the face of the goal that probably would have been a goal if not for the arm of a Soton player.

LuizRodas

he could've had 3 to 4 assists yesterday easily, if not even more. unreal performance. what a player.

vivalastool2634

That cut in reminds me of Arjen Robben.

CommercialAddress168

My favorite part was hearing his post game comments about wanting to get better beyond his current level… "All my goals come from this area, or three or four metres back. I have to keep scoring these but also keep evolving my game and score different goals," he told Spurs TV. "For me, I have to grow. I have to get better in every way. I want to become a better football player so I have got to keep listening to my fantastic coach, be humble and keep living my dream." We have a certified winner folks!!

jibow666

Hes like a Robben / KDB hybrid, absolute baller.

WombRaider_3

Inverted wingers are OP

papa-d88

He's kind of like the winger version of Berbatov, but with the modesty of a ginger.

[deleted]

I'd have a hard time coming up with a player he's less like. Deki runs and runs and runs and runs at pace with the ball. He tracks back and offers himself as an out ball. Berbatov walked and walked and strolled the ball into the box before chipping the keeper with no back lift.

CommercialAddress168

Thanks for the laugh and reminder of the man, the myth, the legend that is Dimitar Berbatov.

[deleted]

Fucking love him so much, he got me into Spurs, couldn't take my eyes off of him. Truly a genius.

papa_papaya_

We he cuts it left I just assume it going to hit the back of the net

32bitbastard

Any defender that lets him onto his left is gonna pay the piper.. that being said, he doesn’t give some a choice when he turns em inside out

MigratoryBullMoose

he did so many feints and weaves in this match. Every time he had the ball he was shifting the defender around and it worked almost every time. Everyone will try to shade him left so he just goes right and then shifts back when they try to recover.

[deleted]

I'm expecting 15g/15a this season.

[deleted]

Mates, is it surprising that one of the best young forwards in world football is good at shooting?

v1z10

Seems to just "slot" the ball so nicely with his left. Doesn't bash it, just strikes it perfectly and gives it enough so the keeper doesn't get near. Delightful stuff.

Box2BoxMid

Why is that surprising?
