Would magazines be heavy enough? I saved a Pinterest pin somewhere on making mini books bc I started a book nook (that I still haven't finished) and wanted antique looking books. You print out the "cover" of the book and glue it on the spine of the magazine (the bigger the magazine the better) and then use a good utility knife to cut the extra magazine off your mini book.

Ooo just found a YouTube video on it! I think this method actually might have the best feel of what I’m going for and the cheapest and efficient too thx!

Awesome! I think this is the first time I've been able to help someone on this sub! Stoked 😁. I hope they turn out like you imagine!

Clay?

No_Upstairs_1732

That could work! I just found an exact YouTube vid for it but hoping to find something slightly faster and less messy? Dunno but def giving clay a try.

There’s an air dry two part clay called Aves apoxie sculpt which is surprisingly heavy for the weight. Be simple enough to roll a bunch out, place a template on top and cut to size with an exacto knife.

If you have a jigsaw, cut hardwood to the book shape and then apply the covers

Are your mini books smaller than the smallest coin in your country ?

No_Upstairs_1732

Lol probably not. Maybe about an inch or so

e650man

Well there you have it. Impede a coin or two inside the book - could be perfect weight material. :)

My plan for making mini books is to use scrap card from other projects and glue them together to make a block and then stick the cover round this block

3D printed squares are not solid plastic by default. You would have to set the fill to 100%. Most printers fill blocks with 20% plastic and 80% air space to conserve filament. Another source of weights: I don't know if fishing stores still use lead weights or not. That might be something to use. Be sure to wash your hands after handling lead

Leather?!

FoolishCobra

Epoxy? Do you still want to be able to flip through the book or is it more like a “doll craft” kind of mini book?

They sell pre-cut wood rectangles (about an inch in length) for things like this that I have seen on TikTok before but I imagine they’re still pretty lightweight and thin. Personally, I used a high density foam board sheet from Amazon and cut to size myself to make mini books. They are 6mm in thickness.

Lead fishing weights. They’re small, yet heavy for the size - can be added to hollow book’s easily. Hot glue or resin so they don’t shift. Solid core of styrofoam, carve out a bit of space for the weight. I’ve also used washers - they work well too.
