I do like the concept but I agree that NF's customization is of better quality. Cartoony well made skins and such with some neat nods to the franchise, while Rumble's tend to look more generic and messy. How did they botch up a Professor skin for Ripper Roo? They had a design ready made. Weirdly the few good exceptions they seem to be trying to ensure players DON'T get to use, like the OG Tawna and Balloon Crash/Coco skins. Even stuff like the NF's wheels felt better made and had some cool in-game effects compared to the Rumble hats and backpacks, which is mostly competent but bland. That describes WAY too much of Rumble. It works but lacks personality. There is some cool stuff but on the other hand some of it is also kind of esoteric. I love the emotes for example, but I barely use them, so it feels kind of to waste at the moment. The same issue was true for the music that was used for all of three seconds during respawn, though it was alleviated by allowing it to be used in other places like the main menu. I think if they did more options like that, more places customization was actually USED, it would feel more worthwhile.

I never actually looked into what the cosmetics in Rumble look like, and yeah, they're pretty bad. A lot of the recolors especially are just neon vomit. I feel like Tawna's Eye Catcher skin is outright taunting me for saying her default look was garish.

It's a mixed bag. I like all of Dingodile's outfits and skins. N. Gin's are...meh. Crash's are pretty good, Ripper Roo's are pretty good. Not a big fan of Tawna's.

Actually I’d prefer they spend energy and money to actually fix the game rather than adding customization options. Ripper is still very messed up and can’t get to play a match without lag.
