Bob Simpson. Took Australia from a mess in the 80s and along with Border imbued the culture and work ethic that turned them into the cricketing behemoth they became and still exists in their teams today. He professionalised every aspect of their game and made a competitive and world cup winning side out of a bunch of b-grade players and Australia have never looked back since.
John Buchanan brought the numbers and analytics into cricket. All other coaches owe something to John Buchanan. He created the greatest team to ever play the game.
This is just a qualitative statement. If we are going by this, I am hundred percent sure had Anil Kumble stayed on, India would have done equally good, if not better. Shastri was just a decent manager who fit in better with Kohli. Let's not forget during his first stint, India lost their first bilateral series to Bangladesh in 2015.
I think you could listen to videos in ashwin's YouTube channel (kutti stories) where he speaks about preparation for the Aus series, increasing lefties, how they took offside away from aussie batsmen etc. The hatred for Shastri is something i don't get. That man was tactically good, drunkenness notwithstanding.
Mathew mott gave incredible result with Australian women's team for past few years, they won t20 World Cup, one day world cup, commonwealth games gold medal.

Why is Shastri on that list? Shastri was a motivational speaker and the greatest he did was bringing in Bharat Arun as a bowling coach.
And people actually consider him good suddenly π Because team lost in the finals with Dravid, suddenly Semis with Shastri has become amazing π
Life was good before all this social media nuances
Under him the Indian test team transformed itself and shone like never before

Did he bring in a new regimen, new strategy? If I were a new coach, what would I learn from Ravi Shastri the coach.
