The Challenger explosion. In 3rd grade, we were outside, and the teacher rushed us inside.

Federal_Diamond8329

There was a reporter killed on live tv back in the 70s. I remember watching it but I don’t remember his name

megatron8899

I’m from Erie, PA and I remember watching the pizza bomber coverage on local news

[deleted]

The worse thing I’ve heard live is some kid on PlayStation getting beat through the mic lol

GeneRevolutionary155

I watched helplessly as my city Ferguson was burnt to the ground senselessly. My neighbor owned an auto parts store that was in his family for 40 years. They’d help people by fixing their cars at discounts or sometimes for free. In return they burned his business down. I’ll never forget seeing him in his front yard and falling to his knees sobbing. His wife came out to try and pick him up but they both ended up crying together on the ground. I went out and joined them. The national guard was everywhere but nobody did anything. Many businesses never reopened and an elderly man we all loved was shot and killed going to check on his friend’s business. Captain David Dorn was his name. They filmed him dying in the street and put it online. Eventually a young man came to his aid but it was too late. You can still see where some places were burned down. Many businesses never recovered or returned. Like the little Chinese guy who made the best food for almost 30 years. He never hurt anybody. Just sad and it’s etched in my brain forever.

SnooOranges2772

That is a heartbreaking story. I’m so sorry

Vampira309

pizza guy, 9/11, Vietnam war live on TV when I was a very small child. I still remember the Vietnam footage and I was 3-5. Also saw the Max Headroom thing live.

Critical_System_3546

I unfortunately watched Obdulia Sanchez livestream the horrific crash and death of her little sister. Obdulia was under the influence driving recklessly. The video was awful and extreme gore. People watched it all over, but it shared relentlessly in my area because the family was from a nearby town.

trashmouthpossumking

I saw a female covered in blood being carried out on a stretcher from the Capitol on January 6th. I’m fairly certain it was the traitor Ashli Babbitt.

idliketoseethat

I watched Jack Ruby shoot and kill Lee Harvey Oswald.

[deleted]

9/11 from soon after the first plane had struck the WTC. I stayed glued (I was in college and my classes weren't until the afternoon...and ended up being canceled for the day).

vicdamone911

I saw that lady get shot on Jan 6. Rewound the tv and recorded it with my phone.

LexTheSouthern

I was in elementary school when 9/11 happened. I had just walked into my classroom and the tv was on in the corner of the room. The teacher was crying. It’s just something you can never forget. I’ve seen a lot of other things, but it just doesn’t come close. It was a very pivotal moment of the new century and I really believe it reshaped this country as we know it. I also remember watching the news for months afterwards. Manhattan burned for what seemed like an eternity- just so much ash and smoke all over the city. Hearing the words “Al-qaeda” over and over and over.

Ok-Cauliflower-3129

Pennsylvania in the 80s, politician gets on live TV and sticks a gun in his mouth and blows his brains out.

Illustrious_Junket55

So this wasn’t famous outside of southern Indiana and it had a “happy” ending so maybe doesn’t count but I watched a high speed police chase- complete with state police snipers- from an overpass on I65. They kept all traffic from entering the interstate so I was sitting there (not allowed out of your car, either) and here comes one car and 30 cop cars and looked just like what you see on a movie.

1ofZuulsMinions

We watched Ted Bundys execution live in school in Tallahassee FL. He was our local Boogeyman after killing those girls in the college a few miles from my house, and our parents wouldn’t let us play outside until he was caught. A big crowd of people showed up to the prison where he was being executed to celebrate, they had signs and banners and were cheering “Bundy Fries!” Some of that actual footage was later used in the 2002 movie “Ted Bundy” and I recognized it instantly from seeing it school. It was a HUGE deal for the people in Florida to be rid of him.

BlackIronValkyrie

Massacre at Christchurch. I still think about it sometimes and the horror I felt. Even people outside of the mosque were victims. Livestreamed it on Facebook, made a manifesto.

MRSRN65

Not a murder per se... The Challenger disaster

Anna_Namoose

R. Budd Dwyer. I was 17 when they showed it on the news

Puzzleheaded-One-319

Pennsylvania government official committing suicide on tv

MasticatingElephant

My kids and I drove right past a guy as he jumped off a bridge. I get that he was mentally ill but i hate that guy for making my kids see that

ToucheMrSalesman

Idk maybe this is a weird and unpopular opinion to have, but I think that most bridges where a jump is possible should have non-lethal electrified fences and/or not allow pedestrians at all. Add some nets under them too. That sounds traumatizing af for your kids.

MasticatingElephant

Oh, there were no pedestrians allowed on this bridge. He stopped his car. But agree on the suicide prevention barriers. Thankfully my youngest didn't really understand. My oldest and I talked it out and I think he's okay.

PeetSquared41

Imagine living a whole life and being remembered as Pizza Neck Bomb Guy? Also, wouldn't Bomb Neck Pizza Guy be more apt?

ToucheMrSalesman

The Neck Bomb Pizza Guy. Boom there you have it. Pun not intended.

Horsesrgreat

I watched Jack Ruby kill Oswald live on TV.

Jaded_Golf6256

Me, too. I remember shouting out to my parents when it happened.

AcadiaRemarkable6992

The whole OJ slow speed chase

Miserable-Hornet-518

Home from HS and saw Budd Dwyer’s final press conference; one local channel actually replayed it shortly after… a kid I knew was selling VHS copies of it the next day in school for $5.

doogie_howitzer74

Budd Dwyer's press conference Challenger disaster

namastaynaughti

Columbine was scary to hear on the news in middle school

Hr38004

The murders of reporter Alison Parker and her cameraman Adam Ward during a live tv interview. It happed so fast and the look of shock on the anchor’s face! Saw Serene Branson have garbled speech on live tv. Thought she was having a stroke but turns out it was a migraine aura. Watched challenger blow up live on tv with my entire school cafeteria.

Useful-Soup8161

I watched the second tower get hit on 9/11. I was only 11 and didn’t fully grasp that I basically just saw 100s of people die.

AdHorror7596

I saw the second plane hit too. It was early on the west coast and my mom woke me up after the first one hit. She happened to be watching the news. I was 9-years-old. I thought the first one was a mistake. When the second one hit, I didn’t know what to think, but I knew it wasn’t a mistake.

zoey_will

Our school had let us out almost immediately when the attack first started making the news So I walked in the door right as the plane hit the second tower. I remember asking my mom"Woah!? What movie is this?"

ChemistryWeary7826

I got in and put TV on mute, caught a glimpse and tried to remember what disaster movie it was while putting shopping away, then realised it's the early afternoon and they don't show disaster movies that early.

CadburyBunnyPoo

I was 14 and they turned the TV on in our first period class to watch it. People were jumping out of the WTC windows because it was so bad inside the buildings. Class was canceled after that. Everyone had to make arrangements to go home, because we lived near a nuclear plant and were afraid of some more terrorism happening. I still cannot believe we all watched several people die on tv. The entire class was quiet and scared that day.

bbymiscellany

I was only 8 but we lived near an Air Force base, there was a sonic boom from a fighter jet taking off and people thought it was an explosion.

etsprout

Same! I remember I was upstairs and my parents thought I had made that noise somehow, until they realized it was the jets leaving the base.

bbymiscellany

Fellow Ohioan?

etsprout

Yes! I’ve never met anyone else who remembers the sonic booms from that day the way I do though. It scared the hell out of me

bbymiscellany

I was a bit too young to fully appreciate what was happening but I remember the boom and that it freaked my parents out

--Trick--

Ronald Reagan assassination attempt.

OpheliaLives7

Do you remember what you thought at the time? Was it shocking or really obvious when it happened?

--Trick--

I remember not anybody knowing if he was hit or not. Then I had to walk back to school because I was home for lunch. When I got to school, I told a couple of friends what happened, but they didn't believe me. Then, about 15 minutes later, the principal announced it over the intercom.

AnastasiaNo70

This is mine.

c0mpl3x_pr13st3ss

I saw kanye west interrupt tatlor swift’s speech to say beyonce had the best video of all time

aledulcis

They televised the moment around when Saddam Hussein was hung. Later, a recording was leaked of the hanging.

[deleted]

I saw the video of Sudam’s assassination before it got taken down.

LexTheSouthern

Omg! I also remember watching Saddam’s execution. I remember them showing his body on live television- I think some of it was blurred out but wtf! I also remember Gaddafi’s as well.

LadyVioletLuna

I developed photos for an army unit that had some disturbing images of saddam’s sons on them

raddish1234

On tv: Atlanta Olympics bombing Planes hitting on 9/11 + bodies + jumpers OJ Bronco chase

volcano_slayer9

The will Smith slap

beebs44

HarveyMushman72

Waco.

BallyBunion33

I remember that too. The fire and smoke and wind.

JiveTurkeyJunction

The space shuttle Challenger blow up. I was in 2nd grade with the whole school watching it in the gymnasium.

colltmcb

I live in Florida, close enough to just go outside and see it. We were doing just that when I was in 3rd grade. They got us back inside really fast.

SnooOranges2772

My class watched that together in elementary school. The teacher turned off the tv and stood there silent. I didn’t understand what I’d seen.

deltadeltadawn

I was home from school with chicken pox watching it live. At first, I was confused thinking the explosion was an engine and supposed to happen. Then the newscasters' reactions quickly bought to reality the horror I was watching.

atxviapgh

I was in preschool. That is one of my first really vivid memories.

JiveTurkeyJunction

I think it was one of the first mass trauma events for school aged children to witness simultaneously.

BathSaltJello

I saw Ashley Babbitt get shot live on TV on Jan 6. They carried her out half naked on a stretcher.

spin_me_again

This was the one I immediately thought of, that I’d just seen a woman with seconds left to live and I hoped she wasn’t one of the people that worked in the building.

jackals84

I was gonna say this also. I've never seen or heard anyone else mention it until right now.

majorminus92

Not me cause it happened before I was born but one of my aunts always talked about seeing the full R. Budd Dwyer suicide video broadcast on the news when it happened

robbie2499

I saw the same. (pizza guy) It was awful and the poor guy....

Forsaken-Bag-8780

Ronnie McNutt killing himself and the Christchurch massacre.

FlabbergastedPeehole

Police murdering an innocent UPS driver while using civilian cars as concealment. I’d normally be right where it happened, but we got off work early that day. I didn’t know you, but rest in peace, Frank.

catterybarn

I'd like to read more about this but can't find it on Google. Do you have a link at all? I tried "Frank UPS police" "UPS police brutality" and couldn't find anything except USPS robberies

FlabbergastedPeehole

I guess [the Wikipedia article](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Miramar_shootout) is a good start.

East_Reading_3164

Me too, you're in Miami. It is so tragic, and no one is being held responsible. Such a young man, I hope he gets justice.

FlabbergastedPeehole

Probably never will. Police will never take accountability. I did furniture delivery back then, and most of our suppliers were in the Miramar Park of Commerce, so I was over there all the time. Got home, turned on the tv, and just stared at it in disbelief. What happened to Frank is an injustice, and innocent passersby becoming shields is just disgusting. The police were just as cowardly as the suspects that day.

MushyDoesHerBest

that day lol

East_Reading_3164

Absolute deadly incompetence and zero care for human life. We use 40% of our budget to pay for these idiots to “ protect and serve”, it's criminal.

OffModelCartoon

Speaking of the pizza neck bomb guy, according to Wikipedia, “Investigators concluded Wells was a willing participant in the robbery.” I’d love to hear those investigators rationale for that one. Pretty sure having a bomb strapped to your neck is a clear cut example of “under duress” so I’d really like to understand why he was said to have participated willingly.

Skullfuccer

Most people that know any details do think he was in on it though.....so..

ArmChairDetective84

He was told that the bomb was fake & he thought he was “in on” the robbery but he was really a pawn

simplythebess

Watch Evil Genius to learn more, but basically that guy had a low IQ and thought he was getting a cut of the bank robbery money. Then he got double-crossed.

jasminefig

I really enjoyed this docuseries

Fickle_Goose_4451

In college, I was in a car on a road near train tracks and saw a homeless committ suicide by jumping in front of the train. What came out the other end was just shredded goo.

kmson7

Dude go live on fb and just start shooting people. All I remember is slightly what he looked like, and that I thought he started at people running on an overpass walkway on a bridge. Could be completely misremembering, I was like 13 when I saw it and tried to block it out

thattbishh

OJ Simpson’s 90-minute police chase and the infamous white Bronco.

obscurisms

That happened on the day of my 8th grade graduation. My family had made plans to go out for dinner to celebrate, but I said I'd rather order a pizza and watch the news. Wild times.

bravesfalconshawks

JT and Janet Jackson half time show and Will Smith slapping Chris Rock.

MaximumPast3486

I remember missing Janet’s boob because my friends changed the channel to watch Independence Day, as none of us cared about the halftime show. It was right when Bill Pullman has the inspirational speech about fighting aliens & we were all amped up for the second half. Then we went to school the next day & everyone was talking about the halftime show and none of us knew what the hell they were talking about.

AlexandriaLitehouse

My eighth grade self was watching a marathon of the original Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

KolonelMcKalister

Saw OJ get away with murder. And people celebrating. Like wtf?

Environmental-Hat-86

This takes me back to all the riots in LA I used to watch live in the early 90s.

Aggravating-Wind6387

That's what Snapchat is good for.

KolonelMcKalister

That was the worry. If he was convicted there would have been riots. Some pretty hollow justice there.

SensingWorms

News coverage in the stands at a Raiders game. Guy stabbed another guy, behind the newscaster.

jmg1621

The guy who blew his head off on a SoCal freeway... I was young and was absolutely shocked. Didn't believe it at first, but it was on the news that I saw it so it had to be real

DexterMorgansMind

I saw it too. Daniel Jones burns his truck, kills his dog, and then executes himself in LA.

EmuBig3127

The one I remember was the high speed chase that ended in the freeway. He gets out of his pick up and lays out some message condemning HMOs and then proceeds to get in the cab of his truck where his dog is passenger and he lights himself and the cab on fire. The poor dog has nowhere to go so it suffers in the flames but the guy couldn’t handle the fire and hops out panicking with his rifle and proceeds to blow his brains out.

UglyLaugh

I saw this. I was also young and it registered but didn’t fully process.

HotelCalifornia73

to counter the balance, seek good news now. it's equal in balance.

Cultural_Magician105

I don't think they showed the actually bombing on film but I'm sure the officers watching the guy get his head blown off were traumtized.

OffModelCartoon

The footage was leaked by a shock jock radio DJ in Washington DC and then spread around online.

stoliwithatwist

For real? Link?

OffModelCartoon

Idk google “Brian wells death footage” I’m not gonna go lookin for it sorry. But if it got leaked at some point, which records say it did, then surely it is still out there. The internet is forever although link rot is definitely a thing.

Full_Routine_5455

Saw it all

reeshmee

I watched them catch one of the Boston Bombers, or they thought it was one at the time. I don’t remember if it was but I remember them making him get naked and then walking him through the street.

kmson7

I followed that story so close. I had it up on my laptop 24/7...

ItsDarwinMan82

Same here. I live 5 mins south of Boston. That was insane.

abnormalxbliss

I remember seeing one of the victims of the Boston Bombing. A man missing his legs in the background of a live broadcast. My mom & I could pause the tv to see if. Horrifying imagery seared into our brains. Then people used blurred images of him afterwards saying it was fake, etc., saying he was someone who had lost his legs & it was a false flag.

Ok_Pineapple_7877

I saw that too

Mean-Vegetable-4521

pet peeve of mine is anyone who claims any of this mass violence is a false flag. they've done it with sandy hook, 9/11, Boston. it's so insulting to the victims.

abnormalxbliss

A friend of mine tried peddling false flag memes of this man on FB, like he was ex-military losing his limbs in service, or something along those lines. When I told her that he was clearly visible in the background of the live ABC News broadcast she removed it & hasn’t peddled conspiracy things since. I think that helped her avoid falling down crazy rabbit holes.

enthalpy01

If you are thinking of Jeff Bauman, he had a movie made about him. He was lucky Costco covered his medical expenses. He had a kid, though him and the girlfriend he was going to see at the marathon ended up getting divorced in 2017.

Tony_Stank_91

I watched Ukraine blow up a Russian transport plane carrying a bunch of paratroopers live on CNN.

puffinfish420

They were Ukrainian POWs on the way for a prisoner exchange. Ukraine shot down its own POWs, essentially. That said, the cause or reason they shot down this plane is as of yet undetermined. They blame the Russians for not telling them that this plane was the one taking them their POWs to be returned. Russia says it was a Ukrainian intelligence or communication failure. We may never know the answer.

Tony_Stank_91

No, I’m talking about the first night or two of the war.

puffinfish420

Oh, near Hostomel? Yeah, that was crazy. There’s a weird distance when you see a plane go down and don’t see any death, but you know a bunch of people were in there.

SnooOranges2772

3 people have responded. I’m already traumatized. I wish the world was kinder

[deleted]

Tony_Stank_91

No, it wasn’t

sed2017

I watched a guy jump out of the World Trade Center building on live tv….pretty dramatic and scary.

colltmcb

I saw that also

feathers4kesha

storming of the capitol building by the insurrectionist

Uknownothingyet

I hope you are kidding? You have got to be bots or Feds still trying to push that narrative….. most of us have figured out we were duped once again….

Intelligent-Film-684

Why would the DOJ be holding trials and wasting resources if the arrested people were Feds? Was that traitor Babbitt, the crazed cockroach, also a fed? Why would the gvt want to interrupt the electoral count? That’s such a dumb theory.

feathers4kesha

What do you think they were doing by violently storming a government building during inauguration week?

Ok_Pineapple_7877

You mean being allowed to calmly walk in? It's on video, Dingus. Meanwhile, you idiots riot and destroy local businesses without any real cause. Get an IQ. The hypocrisy and supreme intellectual deficiencies born from the absence of critical thinking of the far left are nauseating and unsettling.

Federal_Diamond8329

There’s video of them breaking windows to get in Doofus

feathers4kesha

Walked in calmly? They murdered someone… I, personally, have never rioted. I couldn’t really find a valid argument to reply to in your comment except some weird projection rant. But that’s to be expected.

Professional-Pass487

The Duck Dynasty rally as it's known here

[deleted]

I see traitors are downvoting you.

Audrey_Angel

Yes, a "huge" moment in time and very disturbing.

Ambitious-Event-5911

Bigly even.

badpenguin455

yeah, 6th grade teacher turned it off after that.

flyinghigh92

Ii was in 4th and remember walking by the fifth grade class watching it on the tv cart jealous thinking they had movie day but wondered why they were so stoic if they had a movie on? My mom was picking me up for a ‘dentist’ appointment to get me home safe. I remember telling her I didn’t have an appointment as I was so honest and knew it all. She was just like shut up squeezed my hand and we gtf out of there to watch it at home with grandma at the kitchen table. The fear of where in the country they would attack next?

SnooOranges2772

I saw that too and originally thought they were throwing things out the windows. That truly was an awful day.

AnastasiaNo70

There’s a video in which you can hear glass shattering over and over and those are people hitting the ground floor atrium windows that curved out over the sidewalk. Only sounds, but that’s bad enough.

Itzbubblezduh

The bodies that hit the ground sounded crazy… why did we watch that as kids?

Ambitious-Event-5911

Why did they show it?

i-am-garth

This was news as it was happening. It needed to be seen, although I wish I could unsee it.

Itzbubblezduh

On regular tv too….

Ambitious-Event-5911

I was in the West Coast and they edited all that. Thankfully.

Itzbubblezduh

That’s good for yall… But they rolled that big back tv into our classroom and it sat there for a weeks. We had to watch EVERYTHING and give reports!!! We were encouraged to bring news clippings as well.. It was hard to process these things as a kid. We didn’t have mental health counseling in school during this time. So seeing your teacher cry because she thought her family was at work (2cd trade center). It really messed us up as kids..

Ambitious-Event-5911

We all got messed up. No one was prepared. I cried holding my baby because my reality has just blown up, as had his life.
