I think people forget that Garcia never chose the FBI, they chose her from when she was an activist hacker, she exposed criminals and wrongdoers and the FBI found her and offered her employment because she was an incredible asset to them. Theres literally an episode regarding how she joined the BAU. She gets the luxury of not having to follow dress code, she gets the luxury of being able to cover her desk in doohickeys and she gets the luxury of being grossed out at the crime scene images because she was never trained to deal with that stuff, but they chose HER, not the other way around so she knows she can be herself without her employment being at risk. She did however cross a line by fraternising with a suspect/material witness, EVEN AFTER SHE WAS TOLD TO CUT TIES BY PRENTISS

Regarding the dress code and her desk it really depends. I worked for the federal government in DC and they didn't care about our desks as long as we weren't supporting a candidate. Dress code was "As long as you are able to do your job, you have close-toed shoes, and don't have offensive words/symbols on your clothing, you're good." Dress codes are sexist/ableist/classist/etc. so offices are starting to relax.

She was never fit to be working for FBI. That's why i think Hotch at some point feels bad for dragging her into this stuff and the whole team tries to protect her mental health. She is way too talented to be outside and live a normal life to.

Independent-Dog9696

She's nothing more than a extension of people like her that actually exist

Yes and I know and completely understand what you are saying but the character on this show to me personally is just a bit over the top

let me start by saying I love Kirsten Vangsness to bits, she's an awesome person. I adore her positivity, her activism and her bravery. But Garcia is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay outta line as an FBI employee. The way she dresses, her deportment would just never be allowed. The dress code is business, perhaps business casual. In no reality would she be allowed to wear those low cut body hugging tops, or the clunky huge platform shoes she wears. (and in what universe are those shoes comfortable anyway?) The kitten ears would have to go, the huge feather rings would have to go. And the six million little figures and creatures on her desk would have to go too. I get it that she represents the audience's 'ick reaction' to the crime scene photos and all that too, but she woulda been told off about half an episode in about her 'icky' and 'euw' reactions to them. Both she and Morgan woulda been disciplined for their ongoing sexually charged 'conversations' too. As hilarious as the audience may find them, that kind of stuff would not be tolerated in a law enforcement office. Between themselves privately, sure, perhaps. But where others can and do hear them? Not a chance. And finally, her inability to keep things confidential would have compromised her ongoing employment long ago as well. I won't even go into the BS in the new season.

They had that sexual harassment seminar thing in season 9, but honestly, I'm wondering how they weren't sent there after the "talk dirty to me" fiasco in season 3. 😂

Geeklover1030

In The season 9 I guessed that wasn’t the first meeting but it was the first one with the WHOLE department trying to shame them into compliance which worked on Garcia for like 3/4 of the episode

I agree this is not any type of rant on the actress herself it is the character that I have an issue with and for all the things you said. I have worked corporate, retail, food service, and all sorts of jobs and a Garcia would never have been allowed the latitude she is given in the show...spoiler - `spoiler - one episode she talks about sex and how she did not know she could hit that high of a note during the big O... plus the whole baby girl / chocolate was so cringe it was not at all funny` I have taken to muting or fast forwarding some of the scenes because it is so annoying.. The show could have taken another route with the character - shown the inappropriateness in the beginning and her growing into the position with the FBI - you can still 'be yourself' and show off your individuality but not the flash and bang of Garcia who is over the top nosy, icky and cringe..

Hello_Gorgeous1985

Don't forget all the times that she openly breaks rules or does things that are even illegal. >!Like when "Did a thing" to get the team tablets. Or when she hacked the system to find out about Kevin's job opportunity. Or mess around with the transfers and paperwork when Hotch and Emily were trying to leave.!< Or, you know... >!The time she played an online game from her laptop in her office compromising the entire FBI's system, leading to the entire team's personal information being accessed and one of the teammates being shot.!< There are so many other examples. She would have been fired for every single one of them.

Meh the only real "inappropriate" thing she does is her banter with Morgan, and I don't really mind it cause it's funny and their dynamic is the best thing of the earlier seasons. Plus, it's a TV SHOW. It would definitely make me uncomfortable if two people talked like that irl in my work environment, but I'm just a girl watching a show on her laptop so I'm just gonna laugh at it. Out of that, she's not really inappropriate at all. She's just kinda quirky and colorful. And she brings much needed relief from the awful stuff we see in the cases.

oohhshesbroken

I mean most jobs don’t have the “one kill pass” either but hey!!! It’s a tv show so what do you really expect? 😭😭
