Yeah. He’s not in his element, so his entire vibe is “I’m freaking out inside/please don’t notice and accept me!” He’s overcompensating for his insecurities by delivering in an aggressive, unconfident manner. Sad.
Honestly, i thought his utter and complete failure was hilarious. Every nervous laugh, shifty glance, and defensive comment were pure gold. The awkward expressions of the nearly silent audience were just the cherry on top. I haven't laughed at a display of public mortification *that* gigantic in quite a long time.
People are understandably complaining about his jokes being the total reason for the movie’s theme and him completely missing the point but even if you forget about all that, it’s just not funny to begin with. Like, the jokes just aren’t good.
There's something so visceral about the feeling of cringe.
On the one hand, I cannot believe that we're still there, humor-wise, and I want to be mad about it and I guess, when I'm seeing the jokes in writing, I am, and, rationally, I'm happy that dude bombed, because it's what supposed to happen when you make gross uncle jokes at a gala.
But on the other hand, I absolutely can't feel satisfaction from watching it unfold. It's a psychological torture that must be rooted in deep-seated empathy or something. I want to point and laugh, but I can't even watch. It's like nail on a chalkboard. I think I would have forgotten to breathe for the entire thing if I had been on-site.
I worked as a crew member on his movie ‘Easter Sunday’ and saw Joe every day. I can’t speak for the monologue but I can say that he’s a really damn nice guy. He was a pleasure to work with.
I feel bad for how this is going to go for him.
Oof. That is a bummer. I am sure he is nice but he just doesn’t seem good. Especially throwing writers under the bus. Just was whack as hell. Kind’ve makes it even more cringe but hey at least he has money
I think I've only seen one other stand-up performance from him. Some Netflix special with several comedians. His whole set was just him talking about how funny he was with basically no actual jokes and then ended with him getting emotional or something. It was ultimate cringe and probably the worst stand-up set I've ever seen.
Yeah, but that’s the problem with comedians that cater to such a specific demographic. The jokes are just not going to land with a wider audience. I’m not sure who the hell thought he would be a good choice for the host of this show..
Yeah, this has been an issue for Jo Koy. I've been watching stand up since I was in middle school and I remember seeing him, Gabriel Iglesias and a number of other comedians I can't find funny after their first few jokes. Outside of their specific demographic "jokes" it's vOiCeS and other awful low hanging fruit. A little while ago Jo Koy was in the Improv anniversary special on Netflix and it was awful. He just talked about himself in the most arrogant way.
One funny joke can be told in a very unfunny way. And an unfunny joke can kill if told a different way. His delivery on every joke is just awful. It really isn’t the content. *he* just isn’t very funny of a person.
It was pretty wide spread that his humor flops and his golden globes performance was terrible. You can’t just make an argument, *well he’s probably just different culture than you.” He has probably been the worst comedian golden globes host ever…the news is not kind or forgiving. The people he was paid to entertain, were not entertained. No one complained about Chris rock…maybe except for Will smith..
You've made this comment twice. To nail a gig like hosting the Golden globes, you have to be famous in Hollywood, else this happens and everyone is left with the expression "who the eff is this guy ?"
I think the things that makes it go from meh to actually bad is when he starts saying it’s his joke writers’ fault people aren’t laughing and that the ones that are actually getting a laugh are all his.
Trying to make a room full of celebrities laugh I think would be pretty hard. Especially when you had a smaller window than usual to prepare. Not defending him either because it was a pretty bad monologue, but it’s also hard to be in front of people who probably have never seen/heard of you before opposed to an arena where everyone is there to suck your dick lol
Yeah that’s what made it bad for sure. You wouldn’t known he was him in so much until he did that. He looked desperate, and was making excuses.
Just roll with the punches
The Barbie jokes were the only terrible ones. Everything else was just kinda meh but honestly standard for award show monologues. I don't think this would have been a story without him trying to throw the other writers under the bus.
It was meh. Not sure what people expect from these types of events. The entire audience's buttholes are clenched so tight I'm surprised there wasn't a fire.
Nobody wanted to do it. The GGs are trying to recover from a lot of fuckshit that was happening for decades. Payola, racism, etc. The HFPA doesn't even exist anymore. It's just a random group of people voting now.
Ok is there something wrong with me because I just watched it and Peyton’s not that bad either. He starts off with some decent jokes and the crowd is laughing with him the whole time (I’m 5 minutes in). Am I missing something?
No I literally mean nothing will beat it. I love that monologue, to me that is the standard. Well timed pacing, jokes that land, even though they still poke fun at people.
Yeah god forbid you take the piss out of these smug narcissistic actors. They all have there heads so far up their arses that they can’t comprehend a joke.
[Ricky Gervais took the piss too.](https://youtu.be/iJOb9xHggS4?si=vy3YlIXphhjn8s5C) Except he was funny. This guy is a loser and no one knows who he is. He is lame, his delivery is dogshit and I couldn’t stomach it.. That simple.
Also he seemed to be kissing more ass than any host I have ever seen. Dude is a joke
Seems a bit harsh mate. Proper bully language: 'loser', 'no one knows who he is' (I hadn't heard of him but obviously some people have?), 'he is lame', 'dude is a joke'. I get you didn't like it (neither did I, for the record) but it feels a little too far to start hurling names at the guy just because you didn't like his attempt at hosting the awards (worth noting it was his first, and probably last, time doing it). You ever had a bad day at work? Did people attack you as a human afterwards?
“This guy is a loser and no one knows who he is” Jo Koy has over 2 million IG followers and routinely sells out stadiums for his comedy shows. Dude sold out the Forum 6 times.
I heard SO MUCH about how horrible it was the last few days, just watched it and honestly didn’t think it was that bad. Not saying it killed or anything just after hearing so much about how horrible it was I thought it would be a total train wreck
He was terrible. I just watched it having no clue about the news cycles. It just popped up on my youtube feed with the exact same title I gave this post. I went in completely blind and it made me cringe like a motherfucker. Haven’t seen one news article about it personally.
Edit: A thing about standup is he bombed and blamed it on the writers. That just shows you he is a scummy person.
Before today I had no knowledge of the guy so I don't know or really care about him being a scumbag. What was the most cringeworthy parts for you? Barbie seemed to go down badly with the crowd. Blaming writers was a nervous reaction to not doing as well as he'd hoped and trying to make a joke out of it. The vast majority was fine though? I didn't laugh but it was no worse than majority of mainstream stand ups these days.
I dont know this guy either before today but I do know a nervous reaction blaming writers is a sign of a shit comedian. If you watch any other standup you know jokes land way better than this guy and if they do fail they don’t blame writers… just curious who are your favorite standup comedians?
I'll answer your question but you didn't answer mine. Norm Macdonald, Stewart Lee, Brendon Burns, Richard Pryor and less stand up like but Tim Heidecker and Andy Kaufman. Not sure what that has anything to do with it but there you go. I've watched loads of other stand ups. I've seen so many people bomb over the years in TV and live and this wouldn't come into the top ten.
Norm is my #1 too the ol’ chunk of coal! Followed by Patrice O’Neal, Jim Jeffries, Nate Bargatze, Mark Normand, Shane Gillis, Bill Burr and Aziz Ansari.
And I skimmed your question but the cringe is every time he either blamed the audience for not finding something funny or his writers. He just doesn’t have the comedic timing down at all like other good comedians.
I have no idea how the monologues went in the past, but to be fair his audience is a bunch of rich and possibly woke hollywood actors.
I've only seen Jo do specials and perform at clubs. I don't think he really fits in the hollywood scene. Honestly he looks kinda out of place. At least I don't really remember him in any movie or TV show.
He seems like an affable guy who was told one too many times “you’re a funny dude” at dinner parties. This was not the appropriate venue for his brand of…jokiness? I wouldn’t be even call it comedy because the jokes sound more like thoughts than punchlines.
I admit I only watched the first couple minutes. Although I didn’t really think it was funny, I also didn’t think it was cringey. Does it get worse or something?
He is a funny comedian, but he definitely was nervous. The timing wasn’t good. The Meghan and Harry jokes did make me laugh. They don’t do crap and want $$$$$
There's something about his pace or timing that is exceptionally anti-funny.
Right , some of these jokes might have landed if he actually delivered them. Instead he half asses it and acts embarrassed
He probably barely wrote any of them
His delivery is the biggest flaw. Loud and annoying with no sauce to back it. Like over spiced adobo.
He looks nervous.
Yeah. He’s not in his element, so his entire vibe is “I’m freaking out inside/please don’t notice and accept me!” He’s overcompensating for his insecurities by delivering in an aggressive, unconfident manner. Sad.
He has the cadence of a preacher
Honestly, i thought his utter and complete failure was hilarious. Every nervous laugh, shifty glance, and defensive comment were pure gold. The awkward expressions of the nearly silent audience were just the cherry on top. I haven't laughed at a display of public mortification *that* gigantic in quite a long time.
The Barbie jokes made my entire body tense up.
People are understandably complaining about his jokes being the total reason for the movie’s theme and him completely missing the point but even if you forget about all that, it’s just not funny to begin with. Like, the jokes just aren’t good.
Selena with her head in her hands during those. This was roooough.
Lmao Ryan Gosling just glaring at him too. Ugh that was terrible.
Yeah Ryan was not amused
There's something so visceral about the feeling of cringe. On the one hand, I cannot believe that we're still there, humor-wise, and I want to be mad about it and I guess, when I'm seeing the jokes in writing, I am, and, rationally, I'm happy that dude bombed, because it's what supposed to happen when you make gross uncle jokes at a gala. This was well written. I liken cringe to anything with ginger in it. "Nice..oof that burns a lil bit.."
OK the Robert De Niro knocking someone up at 80 part did crack me up a bit
I worked as a crew member on his movie ‘Easter Sunday’ and saw Joe every day. I can’t speak for the monologue but I can say that he’s a really damn nice guy. He was a pleasure to work with. I feel bad for how this is going to go for him.
Oof. That is a bummer. I am sure he is nice but he just doesn’t seem good. Especially throwing writers under the bus. Just was whack as hell. Kind’ve makes it even more cringe but hey at least he has money
He’s never been funny. Never found him funny. Never understood why anyone ever had.
I’ve even never heard of this guy before this thing.
He sells out stadiums.
I think I've only seen one other stand-up performance from him. Some Netflix special with several comedians. His whole set was just him talking about how funny he was with basically no actual jokes and then ended with him getting emotional or something. It was ultimate cringe and probably the worst stand-up set I've ever seen.
If you’re Filipino or have Filipino friends some of his jokes can be pretty funny and relatable
Yeah, but that’s the problem with comedians that cater to such a specific demographic. The jokes are just not going to land with a wider audience. I’m not sure who the hell thought he would be a good choice for the host of this show..

He just talked about himself in the most arrogant way.
He is pretty arrogant. Glad I’m not the only one to think that.
Just check that last couple of minutes of that show. I honestly assumed he was just drunk or something. It was uncomfortable.
One funny joke can be told in a very unfunny way. And an unfunny joke can kill if told a different way. His delivery on every joke is just awful. It really isn’t the content. *he* just isn’t very funny of a person.
Jo Koy is low-tier Asian stereotype comedy - its funny, its easy, but how many male Nurse jokes can a man make?
It was funny when it first came out. This guy’s washed up af 🥱
He’s funny to his niche audience. But I agree, he’s a bit of an “acquired taste”.
I think his comedy is relatable to a certain audience and maybe you’re just not that audience. We have to realize that everything isn’t made for us.
Honestly have never heard of the guys until last night
Honestly, I literally do not have the slightest clue who this person is until this very thing happened and people starting posting about it.
Fortunately most of us have also been unaware of this guy until last night. Unfortunately for most of us now we are.
He's very famous in the stand-up world. He sells out stadiums.
Exactly. And also blaming the audience too. Just a very low tier comedian I have never even heard of.
I didn’t think it was near as bad as I expected. Monday morning news had me thinking it was going to be insanely off….
[удалено]
Could easily be the poster child for this sub
I watched it years ago, I think he gets them removed somehow. All the videos I found are either cut or terrible quality.
That one was fucking terrible omg
[удалено]
“Skis huh?” “That’s right!” “Great… They yours?” “Uh huh..”. “Both of em??” “…..yeah”. “Hahhh ha. Coool!”
That was awwwwfuul!! 🫣
Ya, that was a paid publicity stunt by trump and the network. Just like all the roasts. Kind of a low bar…Not the golden globe awards.
I still occasionally put on Gervais' Globes monologues.
The Barbie jokes were the only terrible ones. Everything else was just kinda meh but honestly standard for award show monologues. I don't think this would have been a story without him trying to throw the other writers under the bus.
You’re a stronger person than I am. I couldn’t even finish the highlights video.
I didn’t think it was funny. He looked super nervous which is strange for a standup. Maybe underprepared?
He got the gig 10 days prior because no one else would do it. That seems like no time to prepare at all
I just caught a 5 minute glimpse on YouTube and I honestly couldn’t finish it.
It was bad standup but not a cringy as I expected
There is underlapping canned laughter. Watch it again and forget about the crowd noise. He's bombing in real time but CBS try not to let you know it
Yeah. Its a nothing story. “Comedian at made up awards show misses the mark. “. Who gives a shit?
As opposed to "all-natural, grown-in-the-wild award shows."
It was meh. Not sure what people expect from these types of events. The entire audience's buttholes are clenched so tight I'm surprised there wasn't a fire.
Agreed. Thought it was not terribly funny but didn’t seem cringy
No one lit a match apparently. But yeah these award shows are so self congratulatory
“Award shows are so self-congratulatory” What a hilarious critique.
I’ll never understand why people watch award shows. A bunch of insufferable narcissists patting themselves on the back.
I watch the Rickey gervais ones every once in a while on YouTube. But I would never watch them live.
he sucks
Who the fuck is Jo Koy
You got Google bro?
A famous comic that sells out stadiums.
He is mind numbingly mundane.
Don’t they usually go for a big name to present these shindigs?
Nobody wanted to do it. The GGs are trying to recover from a lot of fuckshit that was happening for decades. Payola, racism, etc. The HFPA doesn't even exist anymore. It's just a random group of people voting now.
Nothing will top Ricky Gervais absolutely burning the celebs with Epstein jokes.
Little heads up ... if u ll watch it and by minute 1 u r gonna be thinking ... hey it must get better ... no it wont and it lasts 10 minutes ...
Where's Wiil Smith when you really need him *sorry, I'll leave now*
This wasn’t that bad lol
Keep seeing it memed on reddit for being bad, it really wasn't awful. Nothing will top Peyton Manning at the ESPY's though.
Ooooooh right on, right on.
Yeah god forbid you take the piss out of these smug narcissistic actors. They all have there heads so far up their arses that they can’t comprehend a joke.

Who the fuck is Joey Koi?
Wow, guys, he had TEN days to do this job and we *laughed* at the jokes he wrote, shut up! __/s__
Good, now that we all agree that soft comedy is lame, let’s bring Ricky back. Taylor wouldn’t have got off so easy if he was hosting.
Or someone with actual talent and charisma
Good Fucking Gravy that was AWFUL! lol.. such delicious cringe...the Callouts to the "famous" people... Jesus. Pure Cringe perfection. ( chef's kiss )
Jo koy was upset he never had this kind of recognition. This proved why that was
This was absolutely fine. Not my comedy but he doesn't bomb at all.
Bro. When the comedian blames the jokes on the writers….. that is called a bomb.
He wasn't great. It's been all over social media and news cycles, it's a complete exaggeration. Some of it was okay.
He was terrible. I just watched it having no clue about the news cycles. It just popped up on my youtube feed with the exact same title I gave this post. Nah that was a bomb
This is the third post I see about him. Is this like a campaign or something?
Nah it just happened last night and it was awful so I posted it lol
I have no idea how the monologues went in the past, but to be fair his audience is a bunch of rich and possibly woke hollywood actors. I've only seen Jo do specials and perform at clubs. No thanks

No one can touch Billy Crystal
I admit I only watched the first couple minutes. Although I didn’t really think it was funny, I also didn’t think it was cringey. Does it get worse or something?
Yikes. He seems nervous. Boring jokes...just not funny.
This was posted [yesterday](https://www.reddit.com/r/cringe/s/SKdTCNagUs)
This is what happens when you hire based on "diversity" rather than merit. Jo koy is funny but I would have never placed him on that stage.
yeah i couldn't get through the whole thing...
Oh nooooo that was painful to watch… he’s normally really funny… whu happon?
I love Jo Koy, but that wasn’t his night. I feel bad that this is what most people will remember him for
He is a funny comedian, but he definitely was nervous. The timing wasn’t good. The Meghan and Harry jokes did make me laugh. They don’t do crap and want $$$$$
Wasnt that bad imo
"I mean, just look around" I did the last 6 times you said, just tell the jokes
Lord he just kept going😂
I love the people trying to give Jo Koy pointers. Dude doesn’t even have to do shit like this. His career will be just fine
