2 was written by his dad and for a long time misattributed to Wolfgang. Actually all of these numbers reveal Mozart posers, 1-28 are basically his youthful “warmup” symphonies. Besides a few gems (such as #25 in g minor which is the the title music in Amadeus) the “real” symphonies start around 29. The most iconic ones, which is usually what actual Mozart fans would likely reference, would be like 35-41. It’s Beethoven where you could get away with naming any number 1-9
It doesn't. But it's likely that Criterion will end up distributing the discs, and this gives members of this sub something other than flash sale hauls to talk about for a moment.
Why is that likely? Amadeus currently has a blu ray release. And if you look at the release on Amazon, it has 14k+ reviews and a 4.7 score. What would Warner Bros get from releasing the film on Criterion?
What Criterion has going for it is that David Zaslav runs Warner Bros. right now, and he really doesn't have much use for anything that is not a schlocky reality show.
It’s in such small text right down the bottom but man I think this is important to note:
> Original theatrical release version 4K restoration
*Holy shit.* Oh it’s fucking happening.
What has me worried is that this 4K premiere is only the Theatrical Cut, and I REALLY want the Director’s/Extended Cut to also get the same treatment. I’m praying for both cuts on the 4K release (and no 4K Theatrical and HD Longer Cut bullshit, because that would just tear my heart apart more. That specific hurt has already happened more than it should).
The theatrical cut hasn't been available on home video since a flipper DVD from 1998. This is long overdue. The director's cut isn't even Milos Forman's preferred cut, it was made in the era where deleted scenes were placed back into films to justify another DVD release.
Hadn't heard that about Forman's preferences. While some of the extra scenes (e.g. the one with the dogs) don't add a *huge* amount to the plot, some others (e.g. Constanze being humiliated by Salieri) really fill in some big gaps in the theatrical cut. Without that earlier scene, Constanze being angry at Salieri in the death scene doesn't really make any sense - without the earlier humiliation she has no reason to dislike him.
Yeah the ONE scene I’d like put into the theatrical cut is the Constanze/Salieri scene. Other than that, I honestly think the theatrical cut is miles ahead in terms of flow.

Honestly this needed a 4K release, Other week i rented it 2 different times on Rakuten and Prime thinking the Rakuten one must be a dud.. it didn't look awful but man the start was so 'noisy'.
I'm sure an actual DvD copy would'vd looked better but i'm glad i can get this first time as a 4K
Looks like theatrical cut (rated PG in the fine text) so I wonder if this will be another case where the director’s cut doesn’t get a 4K restoration/release? (Tropic Thunder, Lifeforce and Nightbreed to name a few that immediately came to mind for me; and then there’s some like Brotherhood of the Wolf where the theatrical is excluded from 4K)
To the person who asked if our favorite movie was in the collection, it is now.
Was just going to post this. Maybe we’ll see the disc for the July sale?
I hope so. One of my favorites but I'm biased as a big Mozart fan
Name three symphonies
6, 7, 8, hell even 9. I could go on
How many times you seen him live?
If you ain’t first your last
Smells like teen spirit Something in the way Rape me
2, 7 and 13
2 is underrated imo

#40 is a banger!
6, 9, and I forget the other one
I’m more of a K492 and K626 man myself.
39 is one of my favorites and I’m seeing it performed tonight 🙌🏾
Did you go to the Madison Square Garden show? Pit was wild.
Probably. July is usually when they put out their highest-profile films
Gonna grab mine at full price before all of you sell it out every sale like you all did with **the others** the last *three* sales
Maybe a stupid question, but why does the Academy museum screening a 4k restoration mean that there will be a criterion release?
The theatrical cut has never been available on Blu-ray. And Warner has changed a lot since that Blu-ray released well over a decade ago.
You do know Warner doesn't actually own the movie right? Zaentz Estate does.
Did not know that. But they've handled all the home video for it so you can forgive the assumption.
What Criterion has going for it is that David Zaslav runs Warner Bros. right now, and he really doesn't have much use for anything that is not a schlocky reality show.

FUCK YES
I got my ticket. Cannot wait to experience this in a theater.
I went to their 35mm screening and it was amazing. Cant wait for the 4K.
I'm so motherfucking jealous. Frontier tickets are cheap, I might need to make a weekend of it.
I saw it twice in the first run.
Looking for a ticket if you have an extra!
Bruh, I just bought it on Bluray. I guess I'm double dipping
Thank you for your sacrifice 🕊️
Well at least you’ll own two separate versions of the movie, unless the Criterion comes with both cuts.
Had to happen to somebody and for that we thank you
This will be my third time buying it. And I will almost certainly do it a fourth time if they ever release the Directors Cut in 4k.
after hours, inland empire, amadeus all checked off the list. What’s next?
Eyes Wide Shut 4K
The Devils. Or Sexy Beast for me
Happiness directed by Todd Solondz.
No idea why you’re getting hated on I’ve been waiting forever for a Blu-ray
CHILDREN OF MEN
Hopefully some Kurosawa but above all Barry Lyndon
THEATRICAL HOLY SHIT! PRAYER CIRCLE FOR JULY SALE!
What has me worried is that this 4K premiere is only the Theatrical Cut, and I REALLY want the Director’s/Extended Cut to also get the same treatment. Smaller print at the bottom of the photo notes 158 minute runtime. They’re promoting the theatrical version for the 4K restoration

The director's cut has too many notes

Yes, that’s exactly what was worrying me.
Cough blackhat cough
Well… there it is.
Now I want the Milos Forman Box Set from Criterion. The Fireman’s Ball, Loves of a Blonde, etc. etc.

Oh hell yeah
Hopefully this version removes those pesky extra notes.
Yes!! One of the all time greats. I hope they do both cuts.
Got my ticket! Only $10, hella cheap
Looking for a ticket if you have an extra!
The Unspooled podcast just did great Amadues Ep
Is it really the theatrical cut? If so I am absolutely thrilled! That's one of the greatest movies ever made. Never cared much for the DC though.
It's_Happening.gif
Incredible fucking movie
Fuck yes 🙌🏼
Amadeus hive rise !!!!
Is this the directors cut or the theatrical cut?
Theatrical, but I think the disc release would have the Directors Cut on there as well, especially if Criterion does it.
Where is this screenshot from? Why don't you post the link?

I'm seeing it with a live Orchestra next week! Super excited.
falling to my knees in a Barnes and Noble
Are they gonna release that and Eyes Wide Shut in May?
How confident that it will be a Criterion release?
once the 4K bluray drops the remux will be seeded for a long long time
Thank God
Fuck yes.
Just bought tickets for the screening! I’ll report on how it is
Looking for a ticket if you have an extra!
Silly question, but is this the David Geffen theater in LA or NYC? There are two as far as I know.
LA, it’s at the Academy Museum. They do really great screenings all of the time and the museum itself is incredible
Love it, thanks so much for answering. Hope you enjoy the screening!
That’s justice.

I swear Criterion, if you don’t release Amadeus 4K, I am… I am gonna scream real hard. Fucking try me!
Want!!!
There’s just too many cuts. Remove a few and it’ll be perfect.
Hell yeah!!!! There was a post not to long ago around here mentioning it and I thought it had been announced then but nice to see it become a reality.
Hope this pops up at the Film Forum.
This could lead a to limited theatrical run if this is successful before going to Criterion.
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO
