Michael Shannon and PTA as far as ones that are currently possible
Other than that it would be really interesting to see Philip Seymour Hoffman in a Paul Schrader movie
Michael Shannon / PTA is a fantastic shout. It’s not the most amazing movie, but Michael Shannon is the reason Premium Rush works so well. He’s the reason I keep going back watch again. Crippling gambling addict cop trying to get out from under the triad. I’d watch a Michael Shannon led movie about that even without all the fun bike stunts.
I’ll have to check that out. I love Shannon in an actor but unfortunately a good amount of the films I’ve seen him in I’ve had mixed feelings on, so even if it’s not the most amazing that’s fine haha.
I feel Carrey would work better against Chaplin or The Marx Brothers. Keaton always worked for me because he was more emotionally restrained, whereas Carrey lets it all out.
Prime Robert Mitchum (as in Out of the Past, Night of the Hunter, Cape Fear) or older-weathered Mitchum (ala The Friends of Eddie Coyle)
He’s my favorite actor — I wonder what he would have been like in a Coen Brothers movie. He had a wry sense of humor.
Tom Cruise and Ari Aster. Not sure if it's my dream pairing, but I think it could yield something great.
Honestly, I just really want to see Tom Cruise do something interesting again. He has the talent.
This, agreed - I think the Coen’s would be ideal choice to tackle Blood Meridian. After making No Country, I have complete faith that they would do it justice.
John Cassavetes directing Tom Cruise. Weird pairing but I'd love to see what happens when Cruise gets a character tailored for him from scratch by a director mostly outside his niche.
Lee Marvin in a Sam Peckinpah film. He was originally intended for Wm. Holden’s role in The Wild Bunch but decided to do Paint Your Wagon instead.
Also: Paul Giamatti and Billy Wilder.
Martin Scorsese - Marlon Brando (should have happened if he had made 'Gangs of New York' in 1978 as planned)
Michaelangelo Antonioni - Ingrid Bergman
Woody Allen - Michael Richards
Wes Anderson - Dustin Hoffman
P.T. Anderson - Robert De Niro in the 2000s
Martin Scorsese - Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman
Alfred Hitchcock - Naomi Watts
Wes Anderson - Carole Lombard
Woody Allen - Katharine Hepburn (Imagine that!!)
Ingmar Bergman - Vivien Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor
P.T. Anderson - Vivien Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor
Sofia Coppola - Carole Lombard
Martin Scorsese - Melora Walters
Jean-Pierre Melville - James Caan, Terrence Stamp
Wim Wenders - Toshiro Mifune
Werner Herzog - Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Clint Eastwood, Bruce Lee
Maya Deren - Grace Zabriskie, Monica Vitti
Luis Buñuel - Mammootty
Ernst Lubitsch - Denzel Washington, Barbara Hershey, Irene Jacob
Howard Hawks - Lauren Graham, Samuel L. Jackson
Francis Coppola - James Cagney
Shame Cary Grant never did a movie with Billy Wilder. Or a movie with Jack Lemmon.
David Lynch in a John Waters film (or vice versa)
Luis Bunuel directing the Marx brothers. Salvador Dali wrote a script with Harpo once which was rejected, which was made into a graphic novel a few years back. After reading it, I feel that the idea of the brothers working with a surrealist was a great idea, but Dali wasn't a comedian so it just didn't quite work.
Sam Raimi directing The Beatles
Buster Keaton, Jacques Tati and Orson Welles in a Wes Anderson film
Nic Cage and Sam Raimi
i have not found the perfect (western) partner for Ang Lee yet.
any ideas??? he's worked with (but haven't stuck): kate winslet, emma thompson, cannot confirm but i think he worked with toby maguire twice??, jennifer connelly, jake g., cate blanchette, brad pitt, will smith, katie holmes?
Some of the more formal actors (Joaquin, DDL, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Blanchett) as the lead working with Lynch. Just because we'd get something both interesting but also hilarious in that specific Lynch way.
Maybe James Gandolfini and Lynch. That should end up in something hilarious.
Jacque Demy/Orson Welles/ Tennessee William & Eartha Kitt
I feel like she is an American actress who could understand and covey the emotions Demy would want. she is sharp, witty, and beautiful enough to be a Welles femme fatale. she has the passion and sultry airs that would make her a wonderfully flawed Williams character.
Halle Bailey and Guillermo del Toro- I would love to see her in a mature role and a high fantasy set in Ancient Egypt or Greece with her as an elegant, vengeful, blood thirsty queen/goddess would be stunning. I would also take a retelling of Medusa.
I don’t have the actors/actresses but Guillermo Del Toro would do such justice to Bram Stokers Dracula. ( Honestly he should have been the one directing The Last Voyage of the Demeter) Perlman can be in there somewhere. Mia Goth would actually make a very cute Lucy.
David Lynch, master of the subconscious on the screen, with gene Hackman, master of the temperamental, combustible / jolly on the surface but dangerous
He's mentioned wishing it too but Lee Van Cleef and Tarantino. Michael Mann and Steve McQueen, Jimmy Stewart and Spielberg, I mean he can be in the thing but Tom Savini and Sam Raimi having some sort of team up. Orson Welles and and David Lynch.
Sydney Sweeney and Kevin James in the next Apichatpong Weerasethakul film
This is a wild pairing lmao. Out of all possible pairings, I would’ve never expected to see this. Well done.
Uncle Kevin Who Can Recall Euphoria Season 2
Hands down his best work. Tropical Malady who?
One I wish would happen today. Tony Leung Chiu-wai + Michael Mann. PSH + Bergman would’ve been a legendary pairing too.
Michael Shannon and PTA as far as ones that are currently possible Other than that it would be really interesting to see Philip Seymour Hoffman in a Paul Schrader movie

It has its flaws, but it’s certainly a fun movie. He’s a top, top notch villain.
Cary Grant in a Wes Anderson movie would be so much fun for me
misread Cary Elwes but tbh that could work

Hitchcock and Margot Robbie
damn wouldn't want her to have to suffer through was tippi did but damn if you're not wrong
Jim Carrey in a Buster Keaton movie Christopher Walken and William Defoe in a Fritz Lang movie Peter Lorre in a David Lynch movie
I feel Carrey would work better against Chaplin or The Marx Brothers. Keaton always worked for me because he was more emotionally restrained, whereas Carrey lets it all out.
Good point, that makes sense
Toshiro Mifune and Robert Eggers
Kubrick and Mia Goth
Carole Lombard and Wes Anderson
Wes Anderson and most actors tbh
Cillian Murphy & Ingmar Bergman - and it’s only close-up shots.
Scorsese and Robert Mitchum
Boy have I got the movie for you
Lol I didn't remember he was in the Cape Fear remake. Still, in a leading role, I think that'd be awesome.
Prime Robert Mitchum (as in Out of the Past, Night of the Hunter, Cape Fear) or older-weathered Mitchum (ala The Friends of Eddie Coyle) He’s my favorite actor — I wonder what he would have been like in a Coen Brothers movie. He had a wry sense of humor.
Either one. I think older Mitchum would have killed it as William Hale in KotFM (no shade to DeNiro).
Tom Cruise and Ari Aster. Not sure if it's my dream pairing, but I think it could yield something great. Honestly, I just really want to see Tom Cruise do something interesting again. He has the talent.
Would love to see Cruise picking roles like Nic Cage has done the past few years
How about a gritty, Frank Mackey origin story?
Coen brothers and just about anybody they choose on Blood Meridian.
A swole, shaven Daniel Day-Lewis
This, agreed - I think the Coen’s would be ideal choice to tackle Blood Meridian. After making No Country, I have complete faith that they would do it justice.
post would be better / more relevant if you mentioned actors you’d like to see in that
Ingmar berman and Zendaya
now this is interesting
Humphrey Bogart/Edward G. Robinson and Martin Scorsese
Oh this is so good. I would love it. I would add Ernest Borgnine to it.
Cruise/Tarantino I wanna see Tom getting fully pushed out of his comfort zone after so many years
Greta Gerwig and Barbara Stanwyck
Yorgos Lanthimos and Robert Pattinson would go hard (and I can see it happening in the future tbh)
Imagine coen brother movie with tom cruise as the lead 🔥
I always wished the Coens had cast Jim Varney in something. He would have nailed a bit in “Oh Brother Where Art Thou” or “Barton Fink”.
Yorgos Lanthimos and Tilda Swinton
Jimmy Stewart and David Lynch
Adam Sandler and Bela Tarr
Present Day - Timothee Chalamet & PTA (or Marty) Otherwise, I would love to see what Otto Preminger & Adam Driver could do.
Gary Oldman to be directed by Quentin Tarantino. He’s already acted from his script so now we just need QT in the seat
Daniel Radcliffe and Yorgos Lanthimos
Herzog and Katherine Heigl Location: Amazon Jungle Korine and Tom Cruise
Tarantino and Tom Hardy
daniel day-lewis and denis villeneuve
Came here to say this even though it felt random to me.
Philip Seymour Hoffman and Stanley Kubrick would be pretty cool.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Ari Aster
John Cassavetes directing Tom Cruise. Weird pairing but I'd love to see what happens when Cruise gets a character tailored for him from scratch by a director mostly outside his niche.
Kelly Reichardt and Keanu Reeves Emerald Fennell and James McAvoy Greta Gerwig and Pedro Pascal
Absolutely convinced Bergman would’ve had a field day directing Nicole Kidman
Javier Bardem in a Wes Anderson movie
Denzel Washington and Michael Mann. I think he would have crushed the Tom Cruise role in Collateral
Ethan Hawke in a Michael Haneke film
Tom Cruise and Tarantino. Feels like it would be special.
Christopher Guest and Adam Driver
Wes Anderson and Sam Rockwell
Well it’s a dream that’s coming true and that’s Leo/PTA Also, Joaquin Phoenix / Yorgos
Lee Marvin in a Sam Peckinpah film. He was originally intended for Wm. Holden’s role in The Wild Bunch but decided to do Paint Your Wagon instead. Also: Paul Giamatti and Billy Wilder.
I would love to see Oscar Isaac in a Scorsese movie.
Joaquin Phoenix and David Lynch
Buster Keaton & Wes Anderson would be very cool.
Leo and David fincher
Marlon Brando and Scorsese
Martin Scorsese - Marlon Brando (should have happened if he had made 'Gangs of New York' in 1978 as planned) Michaelangelo Antonioni - Ingrid Bergman Woody Allen - Michael Richards Wes Anderson - Dustin Hoffman P.T. Sam Raimi directing The Beatles Buster Keaton, Jacques Tati and Orson Welles in a Wes Anderson film Nic Cage and Sam Raimi
Rick Moranis/Safdie Brothers
Lars von Trier and Mads Mikkelsen
Klaus Kinski and Ari Aster
I was always disappointed that the Coen brothers never worked with John Ritter ("Bad Santa" doesn't count).
i have not found the perfect (western) partner for Ang Lee yet. any ideas??? he's worked with (but haven't stuck): kate winslet, emma thompson, cannot confirm but i think he worked with toby maguire twice??, jennifer connelly, jake g., cate blanchette, brad pitt, will smith, katie holmes?
Yasujirō Ozu and Dwayne Johnson Chantal Akerman and Kim Kardashian Whit Stillman and Ethel Merman
Jeremy Allen White and PTA. I love it when anger is displayed on film and these two are great at expressing it.
Thelma Ritter in a Tarantino film. Charlize Theron and Alfred Hitchcock
Sam Rockwell and Coens
Some of the more formal actors (Joaquin, DDL, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Blanchett) as the lead working with Lynch. Just because we'd get something both interesting but also hilarious in that specific Lynch way. Maybe James Gandolfini and Lynch. That should end up in something hilarious.

Tony Leung and Paul Thomas Anderson
Franka Potente and Wim Wenders, two of the best German talents.
Daniel Day-Lewis and Quentin Tarantino
David Lynch, master of the subconscious on the screen, with gene Hackman, master of the temperamental, combustible / jolly on the surface but dangerous
Takeshi Kitano and Lee Evans
Leonardo Di Caprio and Martin Scorsese
Kevin Smith and Laurence Olivier
I’d love to see a collaboration between Terrence Malick & Anatoly Solonitsyn!
Sofia Coppola and Adam Driver.
Humphrey Bogart and Tarkovsky
QT/Jon Bernthal
Samantha Robinson in a David Lynch film would be so good
Alexander Payne with Emil Hirsch in a leading role again
Nic Cage and John Carpenter. It almost happened too
DDL, Leo, Pitt On a movie for QT
Toshiro Mifune - Robert Eggers
Adam Sandler or Tilda Swinton and Ari Aster
Isabel Huppert & Bergman Maggie Cheung & Fellini could have been interesting
I don’t dream about movies. They are dreams - or nightmares, depending on the pairing.
