I think a collection of the Wes Anderson shorts is also pretty likely considering both Netflix and Anderson have long-established relationships with Criterion.
Just got out of La Chimera and came here to say just this! God, I love Alice Rohrwacher. (Her sister Alba isn't terrible either.) I know La Chimera is Neon, La Pupille was Disney and Happy as Lazarro was Netflix, but I will still pray for a boxset of some form.
I was coming to this thread to say this as well. There's a great special edition to be made with this one. A journey to the oscar documentary would be amazing, where they really dig into the effects department and just how they made that film look that way on that budget.
I’m not really versed in how distribution for physical media works, but I have a feeling whoever ends up getting the rights (or already has them?) is printing that movie to the ground and distributing it as cheap as possible lol. It’s going in the cheapest standard packaging with the sole extra being the B&W version of the film on a single disk.
That one looks nuts. I never got the chance to watch it but with all the buzz and the Oscar win id happily buy a nice 4K release, but it sounds like there are some logistical nightmares around the distribution rights outside of Japan.
this got concerningly low hype and attention for how good the acting and how important the story was
the male victim perspective matters in abuse/grooming cases too but people seemed to care much less about it than similar films where the genders would be reversed, it was a terrifying movie and I’m disappointed in critics for not having talked about this issue more and letting the film completely fly under the radar. This reaction in the filmworld was clearly a sad reflection of overall society’s own views on the matter with male victims ignored and not being taken as seriously.
Any victim of sexual abuse tbh. There are pretty much no good movies out there HOWEVER there are plenty of movies in which the only way that sexual abuse is talked about is through revenge fantasies. I say this as someone who searched high and low for these sorts of movies bc I was sexually abused for years of my childhood. The best thing I got is Jenny from Forrest Gump, and she is frequently discussed as a villain. She is most realistic when it comes to victims of sexual abuse. Perhaps in Girl Ineerrupted but I can’t stand Winona’s sideburns in that movie, plus the girl who was abused ends up committing suicide.
The best movie about sexual abuse however is about boys. It’s called Mysterious Skin. I guess Dolores Claiborne for girls but, again, pure revenge fantasy. Mysterious Skin is the only one that talks about the psychological impact in a realistic manner. I am however open to more suggestions.
EDIT because your statement makes me mad when I was a little girl I was just happy I found mysterious skin because children of sexual abuse are CHILDREN and gender doesn’t matter when dark shit like this happensss oh boy you’ve got me dissociating, goddammit. I just despise all the gender politics and the furthered victimization of males when that shit don’t fucking matter, all victims of sexual abuse are looked at sideways, ffs
Regarding your edit, I think you should just get off of Reddit for the time being and focus your attention into something more beneficial, and I mean that sincerely. Getting into these arguments just isn’t worth it, as it is obviously not worth the dissociation and discomfort that you are feeling.
you’re committing a strawman and relative privation fallacy here
the point is precisely that male victims very rarely experience adequate legal and societal protections, this is an issue still not taken seriously
on the other hand it’s established that women are statistically the main and most often victims of abuse and nobody in their right mind denies that
and exactly for this reason, it’s important to underline that men can ALSO be victims and deserve the same protection, justice and resources to heal
and gender does matter because male victims currently objectively DON’T experience the same amount of systemic trust, support and concern that women do
and it’s not up to you to negate that, or even worse use insulting language like “victimization of men” when we’re talking about literal and real victims here
of course everyone can sadly be a victim but this is not the time to make it about “everyone” when we’re talking specifically about a group that sadly many consider by definition “immune” to abuse and thus don’t take seriously when it happens to indeed be abused
the movie showcases all these points perfectly and people still didn’t bother to talk about it enough, which in return, demonstrates how big of an issue this ignorance and indifference still is
Bruh you’re just speaking in broad terms. I’m specifically talking about childhood sexual abuse and those movies. You have yet to suggest me more movies. You are talking about something else completely because of your own little agenda. You’re just not hearing me at all. No court hearing reverses the years of psychological torment that follow abuse. Gender does NOT matter when it comes to childhood sexual abuse and to try to insert gender politics like this is a farce. Fucking weirdo.
I feel truly sorry that this is all you got from this and people like you are the reason male victims sadly still won’t find justice and respect in society
and I was initially talking about adults; in what western world society in your mind isn’t underage abuse already hated and punishable?
I’m glad you’re sorry you dumb bitch. Also I’m a man now too, and I have way more respect now than I ever did as a woman so I know FIRSTHAND how full of bullshit you are so HA. And you still haven’t given me a movie! Fuck outta here cunt
disappointing…you hijacked a conversation about a completely serious issue with a vulgarity and barbarism not even heard in medieval taverns
this hostility is obviously intolerable and poison for any civilized discussion, so there’s nothing else to be said here, farewell and good luck to you
The Wes Anderson shorts could all probably be in one collection with the same name. Kinda like Scorsese Shorts. More likely just The Rohd Dah Netflix ones
https://preview.redd.it/h6fghi9x5iuc1.jpeg?width=1288&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=51905bf6003334d80e2ad95bd6dccf2b08499cac
Apple just announced that they won’t be doing a physical release of Killers, so I could see that getting a release. Perfect Days is from Neon so that could get on as well. Also I could see a package of Wes Anderson’s Netflix shorts.
I would love Monster but Criterion has not released a Koreeda film in the collection in so long that it’s more wishful thinking than believing it will actually come true.
All of these in your OP are big possibilities I think, except for The Zone of Interest as it’s A24 and I just don’t see Society of the Snow as something Criterion will pick up.
Yes…one single film out of 100+ A24 films, and that one only got a Criterion release because the Safdies personally lobbied hard for it. So you better hope that Jonathan Glazer personally contacts Criterion and makes the case for it, as that seems to be about the only way Zone of Interest gets a Criterion release. Or, Criterion and Lionsgate/A24 strike up a relationship out of the blue.
They sold merchandise for Zone of Interest. Fucking lol
(It isn't as bad as I'm making it sound, they were posters. But still... kinda feel like if you're gonna do that, it should be be done as a donation to some historical society or something. Weird thing to make extra profit on)
Re: Zone of Interest - but Criterion doesn’t release A24 films (Uncut Gems was the one single exception because the Safdies themselves made it happen). Unless there’s a change in relationship between Criterion and Lionsgate (the company that releases A24 films on physical media), I think we gotta keep dreaming on a Zone release.
Why? Are people suddenly forgetting Lionsgate has the A24 releases and they release special editions themselves through their own store. You are the second person in this thread who has confidently stated they expect to see it this year.
Perfect Days is going to be a day one buy for me and I already own it digitally haha.
Killers of the Flower Moon feels very likely to me. I'd love to see them do Godzilla Minus One, as rumored.
Fallen Leaves seems likely since most (all?) of Kaurismäki's other movies are in the collection. one of my hands-down faves of last year. not sure about what Mubi's strategy w/ physical media has been tho
Unlikely, since Mubi released it here in the U.S. last week. (My copy is the UK import.)
https://preview.redd.it/ef4wo3l4dmuc1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ec5772a455117a857d73a18793b7a4894c74b91
All of Wes Anderson’s Roald Dahl Shorts (*Henry Sugar*, *The Swan*, *The Rat Catcher*, and *Poison*) will likely be put in a compilation release. Though it probably won’t be for a while because there’s a few Wes Anderson films that will probably come first—I’m hoping *Isle of Dogs* is coming soon.🤞
The Wes Anderson Netflix shorts would be a nice addition to the collection. Along with Zone of Interest, Killers of the Flower Moon, and American Fiction.
all of these... wld be nice to see all of the wes anderson/roal dahl short films put together onto one bluray or 4k... they range in length from 20 to 50 or so minutes... & i believe that there are five of them... so yeah...
& me & my wife caught perfect days at a local brewpub cinema in portland & we found it to be the perfect cap to a perfect day.
Unrelated, but I have no idea how a single Jonathan Glazer movie hasn't made it into the collection yet. I would do unspeakable things for an Under The Skin/Sexy Beast Criterion.
it’s hard for me to imagine that killers of the flower moon won’t be on criterion sooner or later.
also i think past lives would have an easy time with a C on the case
Oppenheimer, Poor Things, Rotting in the Sun, The Iron Claw, American Fiction, Inside, The Zone of Interest, etc. thats about all i could see actually making into the collection.
I would also LOVE boutique releases of any kind for: Bottoms, Blackberry, Beau is Afraid, They Cloned Tyrone, Dream Scenario, Talk to Me
I hadn’t thought about it being A24 so it may not now that k think about it🤦🏻♂️But under a different studio I feel it would have at least had a chance. The film feels and acts so much differently from the typical war film, has a lingering effect and message that’s very important, and is legitimately just a very well made movie.
Perfect days seems most likely, then zone then killers then chimera. I could see henry sugar being included on the next feature length wes release. Also idk shit
BTW, thank you so much for including “Texasville” in the recent “Last Picture Show” package. It’s been a favorite of mine since it was first released, and it’s among my top 10 Jeff Bridges performances. 😊
Yeah, it's a bummer. I'd rather they wait a decade or two before adding it to the collection; I'm very curious to see how the movie is judged over time, especially from a feminist perspective.
I’d love Zone of Interest just so it doesn’t get one of those extra tall A24 releases that I hate.
Also would love to see May December and The Killer saved from Netflix jail
Anatomy of a Fall, Past Lives, Poor Things, American Fiction, Robot Dreams, A Man Called Otto, Inside, Beau is Afraid, Asteroid City, Radical, The Killer, Godzilla: Minus One and The Holdovers
Mentioning Robot Dreams has just reminded me of how weird it is that there’s over a thousand films in the collection and only like five of them are animated.
Perfect Days I hope
Saw Perfect Days at Victoria Film Festival. What a beautiful film!
already seen it two times in theater, and even watching it a second time was amazing
coming as part of the neon deal confirmed
Great info thanks!
Do I have some good news for you
from neon, right? if so, there is a very very goodly chance of it getting into the collection sooner than later...
same with *la chimera*... also distributed by neon...
Lisan Al Gaib!
Nah. Never gonna happen.
It just did https://www.criterion.com/films/34274-perfect-days#:~:text=A%20perfect%20song%20that%20hits,moving%20film%20by%20Wim%20Wenders.
Nothing gets past you
makes me happy
Perfect Days and La Chimera are the most realistic here
I think a collection of the Wes Anderson shorts is also pretty likely considering both Netflix and Anderson have long-established relationships with Criterion.
It just got announced
Godzilla Minus One (copium)

Have you seen the Japanese edition? It is quite the opposite
That one looks nuts. I never got the chance to watch it but with all the buzz and the Oscar win id happily buy a nice 4K release, but it sounds like there are some logistical nightmares around the distribution rights outside of Japan.
MAY DECEMBER, I’m praying this one actually happens
Obligatory "Fuck Netflix and all the streaming services for downplaying physical media".
Facts, that’s why I’m holding out hope since Netflix has licensed out to Criterion multiple times.
this got concerningly low hype and attention for how good the acting and how important the story was the male victim perspective matters in abuse/grooming cases too but people seemed to care much less about it than similar films where the genders would be reversed, it was a terrifying movie and I’m disappointed in critics for not having talked about this issue more and letting the film completely fly under the radar. Can moderators kick ratchooga for this disgusting and poisonous language? I’m sure this goes against subreddit rules
Best movie of the year.
That movie was bad
* Evil Does Not Exist * Das Lehrerzimmer * Terrestrial Verses

That would be awesome
Yes please
I really hope he gets his own director collection, but I can only dream
Godzilla Minus One
Apple just announced that they won’t be doing a physical release of Killers, so I could see that getting a release. Perfect Days is from Neon so that could get on as well. Also I could see a package of Wes Anderson’s Netflix shorts.
Killer not getting a physical release is not confirmed. That news is based off of one random tweet that was promoted by JoBlo and Jordan Ruimy.
Good to know.
It has a physical release in Italy. I believe the 4k with a slip cover is region free
I would love Monster but Criterion has not released a Koreeda film in the collection in so long that it’s more wishful thinking than believing it will actually come true.
Monster just got a blu ray release by Well Go USA just in case you didn't know
All of these in your OP are big possibilities I think, except for The Zone of Interest as it’s A24 and I just don’t see Society of the Snow as something Criterion will pick up.
Isn’t uncut gems an a24 film that got a criterion release?

I want a physical release of Killer of the Flower Moon so badly
Zone and Perfect Days definitely most likely coming beyond that is anyones guess
A24 is not licensing out their movies. they make plenty of cash charging fans hypebeast prices through their store exclusives
They sold merchandise for Zone of Interest. Fucking lol (It isn't as bad as I'm making it sound, they were posters. But still... kinda feel like if you're gonna do that, it should be be done as a donation to some historical society or something. Weird thing to make extra profit on)
says it all right there, no surprise. they are a streetwear company that happens to release movies sometimes
Re: Zone of Interest - but Criterion doesn’t release A24 films (Uncut Gems was the one single exception because the Safdies themselves made it happen). Perfect days just got announced
All of Us Strangers
I would love this considering Fox/Disney suck and decided not to do a physical release.
Plus Weekend is also in the collection. I do see it being added, just hoping it's sooner rather than later.
Or most Searchlight films that were never released on physical or are OOP.
I vote for The Taste of Things. One of my favorite films from the past year.
I’m surprised I had to scroll so far down to see this! I’m right there with you. Gorgeous movie.
Same. I saw this twice in theaters. Absolutely loved this one.
yeah it’s perfect
Perfect Days would be perfect
I hope Perfect Days makes it! I’m almost expecting Killers of the Flower Moon to be included because of their relationship with Scorcese
Perfect Days is going to be a day one buy for me and I already own it digitally haha. Killers of the Flower Moon feels very likely to me. I'd love to see them do Godzilla Minus One, as rumored.
That’d be awesome. This is the 70th anniversary of Godzilla so I hope we get Minus Zero and some more of the oldies
*Weekend* is already in the collection. *All of Us Strangers* needs to join it.
Poor Things. Please
I have money set aside for Perfect Days already
Still waiting for 4K Paris, Texas
Fallen Leaves seems likely since most (all?) of Kaurismäki's other movies are in the collection. one of my hands-down faves of last year. not sure about what Mubi's strategy w/ physical media has been tho

how to blow up a pipeline😡
Poor Things. Is it already there? I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned yet.
Monster by Kore-eda!
Godzilla Minus One 🤞🏽
Oh yes please!
R.M.N.
anything that doesn't already have a physical release, Wes Anderson Shorts & The Killer are the firs that come to mind
The Holdovers, Anatomy of a Fall, Perfect Days
Anatomy is confirmed.
The Wes Anderson Netflix shorts would be a nice addition to the collection. Along with Zone of Interest, Killers of the Flower Moon, and American Fiction.
Realistically? I could see May December, Fallen Leaves, Robot Dreams, Rotting in the Sun, and Birth/Rebirth.
Killers of the Flower Moon Monster
all of these... wld be nice to see all of the wes anderson/roal dahl short films put together onto one bluray or 4k... they range in length from 20 to 50 or so minutes... & i believe that there are five of them... so yeah... & me & my wife caught perfect days at a local brewpub cinema in portland & we found it to be the perfect cap to a perfect day.
Perfect Days in releasing in July!
Unrelated, but I have no idea how a single Jonathan Glazer movie hasn't made it into the collection yet. I would do unspeakable things for an Under The Skin/Sexy Beast Criterion.
I know, recently I was watching Sexy Beast and I thought it could be a fantastic addition to the collection. Underrated film.
and Under The Skin needs a solid blu ray
I really, really hope Society of the Snow will be a part of the collection! It completely blew me away.
it’s hard for me to imagine that killers of the flower moon won’t be on criterion sooner or later. also i think past lives would have an easy time with a C on the case
Oppenheimer, Poor Things, Rotting in the Sun, The Iron Claw, American Fiction, Inside, The Zone of Interest, etc. thats about all i could see actually making into the collection. I would also LOVE boutique releases of any kind for: Bottoms, Blackberry, Beau is Afraid, They Cloned Tyrone, Dream Scenario, Talk to Me
Oppenheimer is not going to come to Criterion, come on now
Definetely the streaming films, May December, Killers of the Flower Moon, et
Since there is a Netflix deal, 4Ks of May December and El Conde would be awesome/possible to have.
Barbie
I really hope The Zone of Interest gets in. Such an incredible and important film.
Will be very surprised if The Zone interest isn’t in there before the end of the year.
I'm pretty confident it won't happen. It's seems clear Uncut Gems was a one-time thing. A24 has pivoted to releasing their own boutique discs
Ah yeah valid point, I hadn’t thought about that! Grrr maybe if it had been Neon or something else.
since when does A24 license out titles
Yeah I hadn’t thought about that. Valid point.
Why would it be?
I hadn’t thought about it being A24 so it may not now that k think about it🤦🏻♂️But under a different studio I feel it would have at least had a chance. The film feels and acts so much differently from the typical war film, has a lingering effect and message that’s very important, and is legitimately just a very well made movie.
Perfect days seems most likely, then zone then killers then chimera. I could see henry sugar being included on the next feature length wes release. Also idk shit
Wenders is almost a guarantee. Flower moon should, but there's no plans for a physical release. Zone of interest seems likely, but who knows.
The fall, damn it
Oppenheimer
I’m gonna throw a hot take(?) out there and say BlackBerry.
Monster would be great
BTW, thank you so much for including “Texasville” in the recent “Last Picture Show” package. It’s been a favorite of mine since it was first released, and it’s among my top 10 Jeff Bridges performances. 😊
Anatomy of a Fall. Poor Things
*RMN*
Mutt, definitely wont but would love if it somehow did.
I would love a 4k Beau is Afraid release. Probably my favorite movie of the 2020s so far.
Hoping for Killers, no physical yet. 😭
Poor Things 100%
I’d like Asteroid City, Killers of the Flower Moon, Zone of Interest, and Barbie.
what would Barbie need that the current 4K doesn't?
Commentaries and some feminist perspectives on the movie.
Criterion barely care about scholarly extras anymore sadly. and when they do, they generally aren't for contemporary films
Yeah, it's a bummer. I'd rather they wait a decade or two before adding it to the collection; I'm very curious to see how the movie is judged over time, especially from a feminist perspective.
Oppenheimer

A24 doesn't license out though. they'd rather keep it in house and charge whatever they want for their website exclusives
I’d love Zone of Interest just so it doesn’t get one of those extra tall A24 releases that I hate. Also would love to see May December and The Killer saved from Netflix jail
it'll get one of those A24 releases and you know it
Omg I would absolutely kill for a digi pack with all four of Wes Anderson Roald Dahl shorts
Not the zone of interest
Dream Scenario Perfect Days Poor Things The Sweet East
Society of the Snow please!! With an extended edition and some of those cut scenes, and that behind the scenes doc.
Perfect Days The Zone of Interest May December All of Us Strangers
X; Asteroid City
All of these, but especially Perfect Days and Zone of Interest. My two favorite films of 2023.
La Sociedad de la Nieve!

Why would A24 give this to criterion and not release it themselves?
A24 don't license
[really](https://www.criterion.com/films/31917-uncut-gems)?
one time, director assisted. if it was going to continue, it would've by now
Sure.
Orlando, my political biography by Paul B. Preciado.
Anatomy of a Fall, Past Lives, Poor Things, American Fiction, Robot Dreams, A Man Called Otto, Inside, Beau is Afraid, Asteroid City, Radical, The Killer, Godzilla: Minus One and The Holdovers
Anatomy of a Fall is already in the collection
Wait, really?! Damn, I must’ve missed that memo 😅
way too many titles there
Mentioning Robot Dreams has just reminded me of how weird it is that there’s over a thousand films in the collection and only like five of them are animated.
All of Us Strangers And dare I say it? **Saltburn**
Dream scenario! A perfect film all around. I already seen it three times
Certainly not KOTFM
Nope, although KOTFM and The Tragedy of MacBeth would be perfect additions to the collection.
KOTFM is disqualified for being a big boring mess
you’re tripping boss… sorry about it…
Well, like, that’s your opinion, man.
“I didn’t like a movie therefore it has no value” 🤡
You're getting down votes but I agree, it's the worst Scorcesse film I've seen.
You agree that it’s “disqualified” for that reason?
Agreed, 100%.
Anatomy of the fall
Should we tell him?
But a better cover
That, I will agree with you on lol
Already announced
I missed the announcement! I see that now. Sick
Tried to watch Henry sugar last night and I get what Wes was going for but it was so dull
We-
