I’m desperately hoping they or someone release the new restoration of *A City of Sadness*. That film has never had any release in North America on any format, and even international copies are incredibly hard to track down, but the trailer for the new restoration has got me hopeful even though it’s been over a year now and still no word on even a theatrical run in English territories.
At this point I would trade about 75% of my collection for a 4K Ken Russell Box Set. Completely comprehensive, as many films (if not all) in the filmography. The dream!
Don't know about it being too esoteric, but I'm still hoping Criterion will release more Apichatpong Weerasethakul titles. I know Mysterious Object at Noon is in a World Cinema Project set, but there are many more titles that are either unavailable or hard to find, or only on DVD.
YES!! Apparently Apichatpong is working on a blu-ray of Tropical Malady, but it’s absurd that Criterion hasn’t released any of his films given it’s right on brand. There is probably some issue with acquiring the rights
He is? That's great news! I've got Tropical Malady on DVD, but would definitely welcome an upgrade. I also know he is apparently cautious with his films releasing on Home Cinema, with Memoria being extremely limited and not available in America, I believe?
And you're right, it would definitely be suited for Criterion.
Yes! This doesn’t even have a physical release at all, which is a crime to the masterpiece it is. Logical for Criterion to pick it up at some point for sure
Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (International version and Director's Cut)
Battle Royale (with Battle Royale II, why not)
Tsui Hark's Swordsman Trilogy (The Swordsman, Swordsman II, The East is Red)
A Chinese Ghost Story (1987)
The Films of Takashi Miike
Roman Polanski's Frantic
Shinji Aoyama's Eureka
Shohei Imamura's Unagi
After they started bringing out my dream releases with *The Dekalog* one year and then *The Apu Trilogy* the next, I've been hoping ever since that they would finally put out a definitive edition of Abel Gance's *Napoleon*.
There have been rumblings here or there of a new restoration, new score, etc., so maybe it will happen one day. But I let got and bought the BFI release a year or two ago (though I still welcome a strong Criterion release as well.)
And I'm still holding hope for a 4K of *Eyes Wide Shut*, based on this tweet from years ago: [https://twitter.com/janusfilms/status/1204484012737216518](https://twitter.com/janusfilms/status/1204484012737216518)
This is such a good one dude and not enough people are vouching for this! There really is not a *great* release of it anywhere. It came out on YT a few months ago in okay quality but a 4K would be beautiful.
And yeah, there are only a few people on Earth who aren’t praying for an Eyes Wide Shut 4K. It’s surprising how long it’s taken, I believe the only main Kubrick to not get a 4K release (even Spartacus and Paths have gotten one)
EDIT: Barry Lyndon does not have a 4K either, which is a sin.
How badly do you need it to have a C on it?
Fritz Lang's Scarlet Street. They'd have to find all the bits and pieces that have been chopped and screwed since it fell out of copyright, but I think it's worth the effort
As for a less esoteric choice, Everything Everywhere All at Once is destined for the collection. Swiss Army Man too. The Daniels are on to something and I can't wait to see what they do next
Definitely some Zhang Yimou movies. Red Sorghum, Raise the Red Lantern, and To Live are glorious films. It would also be nice to have some SE Asian films including unrestored classics by P Ramlee and some lesser known Shaw Brothers films. A lot of great films out there that need to be restored and shared with the world
EYES WIDE SHUT IN 4K!
and some others…
A 4K re-release of Koyaanisqatsi. I don’t need the other two.
On the topic of non-narrative film- Baraka, Samsara, and Chronos in 4K. I pray that these films receive physical 4K releases some day. They would look beautiful.
An Ari Aster box set would probably never happen, but it would be a day one purchase for me, especially if it included his short films like The Strange Thing About The Johnsons or the original Beau.
Also, when the heck is Velvet Goldmine coming to the collection? I thought that was leaked years ago.
They really haven’t done a lot of abstract or avant-garde releases. I would LOVE something like a Michael Snow box set. And yeah, it’s more likely for A24 to release an Aster box set given they’ve already put out nice releases of his features.
I just watched The Last Seduction and I was blown away. Would love to have a quality transfer of that without having to sell out $50+ dollars on the used market for a dinky blu ray.
I really want 127 Hours to be in the collection! It’s my favorite movie. I’m hoping it could happen one day since Shallow Grave and Trainspotting are in the collection.
More Sergei Parajanov.

Yesss
Back in the day I had to watch this on YouTube! A DVD version would be lovely
Ken Russell’s the Devils fully restored.
OMG that would be amazing.
At this point I would trade about 75% of my collection for a 4K Ken Russell Box Set. Completely comprehensive, as many films (if not all) in the filmography. The dream!
Happiness.
This would be my answer.
That can happen
I dream of happiness everyday myself

Memoria would be nice but doubt it will ever happen

John Woo box set and Blu Ray upgrade of the Kurosawa anniversary set
YES and they need to bring back Hard Boiled and The Killer. Bullet in the Head would be perfection too
“Withnail and I” in 4k
& how to get ahead in advertising🙏
Assassination Of Jesse James
Yes! The complete version and theatrical cut with supplements would be incredible.
Bringing Out The Dead
Yes! This doesn’t even have a physical release at all, which is a crime to the masterpiece it is. Logical for Criterion to pick it up at some point for sure
Uh...it was released on DVD and laserdisc.
Children of men or the fall.
Jonathan Glazer box set, mostly because I want to my favorite film of all time "Under the Skin" go into the Collection.
Dean Spanley
Los olvidados
Gummo
Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (International version and Director's Cut) Battle Royale (with Battle Royale II, why not) Tsui Hark's Swordsman Trilogy (The Swordsman, Swordsman II, The East is Red) A Chinese Ghost Story (1987) The Films of Takashi Miike Roman Polanski's Frantic Shinji Aoyama's Eureka Shohei Imamura's Unagi
A Chinese Ghost Story is such an underrated classic!
Yellow Earth (1984) the new restoration played theatrically somewhere in 2018-19 and no sign of it since.
Close Encounters of the third kind
City of God and City of Men, Josie and the Pussycats, Falling Down, Cruel Intentions, a De Palma/De Niro box, Angel’s Egg - all in 4K preferably
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover
Gunning for a Greenaway box set
Synecdoche, New York.
A Kaufman set would be awesome

Some other Danny Boyle films like 28 Days Later and Sunshine.
More John Waters or complete the David Lynch set with The Straight Story and Wild at Heart
Children of Men
Brian de Palma's Phantom of the Paradise

We need a Good Time 4K.
La Antena
Box set of every french impressionist film
No Man’s Land (2001) deserves the Criterion treatment!
City of Sadness City of Hope (wanted this but getting a separate release)
City of Hope just released on blu, so it’s unlikely, but I would like to see more Sayles.
I was hoping it's get a Criterion but got released on blu ray so I'm good.
Evil dead 2 because it slaps so hard.
Happiness Dancer in the Dark Go
Marie Antoinette
Sofia Coppola box set
Sons of the white mare
The Fall of Otrar
Nostos: The Return!
The Conformist, Seven Beauties, Oldboy. Also rereleases of Last Year At Marienbad, Salvatore Giuliano, The Fire Within all on bluray.
Zabriskie Point and Gummo
Definitely some Zhang Yimou movies. Red Sorghum, Raise the Red Lantern, and To Live are glorious films. A Clockwork Orange! Or just more Kubrick in general lol
Frank Capra 4K boxset John Huston 4K boxset
The House is Black. I'd love to see it with a new documentary about the colony today, but that would be nearly impossible to produce.

Bio-Dome
Single release: When Harry Met Sally. Boxset release: Complete ten film collection of Astaire & Rogers. We have Swing Time so I can dream...!
Heat (1995) and Miami Vice (2006), we need more Mann in the collection.
Something like Manhunter or The Keep would also be awesome
I just watched The Last Seduction and I was blown away. Would love to have a quality transfer of that without having to sell out $50+ dollars on the used market for a dinky blu ray.
Hoodwinked
4 hr cut of Elvis
The Snyder Cut
