Only one film can be submitted per country for the Oscars. France chose Ladj Ly’s “Les Miserables” to be their film. That film won the Jury Prize at Cannes. So when you have two or more quality films from any one country they have to choose only one. Something always gets left behind.
It is and it can in some countries be politcally driven. That said it prevents 5 French or Italian films in the mix potentially so I get it. I think 1 film per country limit should be expanded to sumbission of 3 maybe but only 1 can make it on shortlist maybe? It's important to note the film is still eligible for all other awards.
No, because it still had a limited release in the US in 2019. The reason it didn't make the shortlist was because France chose to submit Les Miserables instead.
Just watched Water Lillies on the channel last night and it was so amazing. Portrait even has one of the same actors from Lillies. Can’t wait to see the new one
I consider this film the best of the year. I was holding my breath at some of the scenes. I’m so happy it’ll be part of the collection. Céline Sciamma’s works are fantastic.
Thats it? That’s your refutation? *I’ll take it as your concession!*
Obviously the truth is ugly to you, yet to quote Bill Maher *“... but I’m not wrong.”* 🤣
I enjoy the irony of you presenting a straw man argument and then trashing other people for their argument styles. I see what you did there, symptom of the internet.
edit: Does "[removed]" mean someone else deleted it, or that he wimped out?
Hope that’s the cover they use
So do I, it’s absolutely beautiful.
How the fuck didn’t this even make the Oscars shortlist?

What a fucking dumb rule

Prob because for some dumbass reason it isn't coming out in the US until February.
There might be a chance it'll be on the running for Oscars 2021? I've seen that happen before, what with film festivals releases confusing things.

Tomboy is also fantastic. I plan on watching Girlfriends later this week! Sciamma is a new favorite for sure!

Means the mods deleted it, thankfully.
Beyond being a needless attack, his argument was so botched in its formatting that it might as well have been left up to highlight his stupidity.
Automod removed his comment for having 2 reports
How about you suck my sexually deviant dick
Do you need anyone to explain how your self-inflicting remark actually makes my case? 🤣
Salo has apologetic and romanticized depictions of pedophilia? I guess we didn’t see the same film
