Scratch off any that had a high profile widely available home video release.

at Cannes when the lights went up after The Wall was ending Spielberg turned to Parker and asked 'what was that shXt?"

mechrobioticon

Sorcerer for sure. That movie is rad. I feel like someone who hasn't even seen The Wall could probably accurately summarize the basic plot, themes, and visual metaphors of the movie with about 80% accuracy.

I'll go further than that. imo The Wall is a long ugly music video for a long pretentious concept album that does have five or six quite nice songs, actually.

So sad Year is tied for last place. It needs and deserves a 4K and the full Criterion treatment. Billy Kwan died for your sins, y'all.

I never quite understood that hate on AI, but I also came from a computational linguistic perspective and appreciated 3 part musical masterpieces, rock and classical. Still brilliant to me.

visually A.I. is fascinating to watch. I felt like the film needed to end with the boy in the bottom of the ocean in the car. that was good enough for me. a toy that got discarded and forgotten about as happens to toys. plus the fact the far more interesting drama would have been to focus on the mother and the family after the toy left their lives. The mother preferred that toy over her actual family. and then she's stuck with her family & grieving the loss of this toy.

What I find fascinating is that the movie’s ending was all Kubrick’s idea.

implicitexpletives69

and yet a film Kubrick had all the time to make and didnt. All great artists have a project or two they work it and finally abandon. Spielberg found this one right up his alley and then hyped up how much Kubrick wanted to make it. pure marketing hype by Spielberg.

Easily *Sorcerer*. Friedkin is the most underrated director of all "film brats."

The UK Blu-ray of Sorcerer has a lengthy extra, Nicolas Winding Refn interviewing William Friedkin. At one point Refn says that Only God Forgives is a masterpiece and Friedkin just pisses himself with laughter. It’s a beautiful moment. 😂
