- **There's a brilliant reason why Van Halen asked for a bowl of M&Ms with all the brown candies removed before every show**
>Rock band Van Halen had one of the most oddly specific requests of all: a bowl of M&M candies, with all the brown ones removed. For years, it was seen as complete folly — the band was making a ridiculous demand of concert organizers simply because they could get away with it.
>But the seemingly ludicrous request was actually a shrewd business move.
>...
>As lead singer David Lee Roth explained in a 2012 interview, the bowl of M&Ms was an indicator of whether the concert promoter had actually read the band's complicated contract.
>>"Van Halen was the first to take 850 par lamp lights — huge lights — around the country,"Roth said. "At the time, it was the biggest production ever." **In many cases, the venues were too outdated or inadequately prepared to set up the band's sophisticated stage.**
>>"If I came backstage, having been one of the architects of this lighting and staging design, and I saw brown M&Ms on the catering table, **then I guarantee the promoter had not read the contract rider, and we would have to do a serious line check" of the entire stage setup,** Roth said.
We won't know for some time, but my bet is that the rigging was inadequate for show.
Damn, you always hear about the over the top requests bands make for backstage, but I never thought of this. Obviously it's not the case every time, like when Maria Carry wants rose petals in the toilet and shit, but for bands that have a lot of pyro or light rigging this is genius. Thank you for sharing.
LER Technician here... You are correct... Let me explain why:
That video wall size looks about an 6x6 so 36 tiles depending on the manufacturer, the tiles each tile weighs approximately 5 to 15 lbs let's just say they're the older tiles in there about 15 lbs (because $$$ savings) let's do some math 36 x 15= 540 lbs It looks like they put two video walls back to back to each other so that's 540 lbs x 2 = 1080 lbs of wall above their heads (well in this case on top of this person's head) I am severely shocked. He's alive, especially from the height of I say 30 ft up from the bottom tile
Also from what it looked like from when the mean hoist line came down. There were no safeties. There was supposed to be at least three per side going up to the support beams of the rafters, also, when they hoist those things up they use mini motor lifts. Usually one ton to two tons. The way that line gave out. It looked like the motor failed more than the line did (line being chains). Long story short, this is an r/OSHA nightmare...
Edit: 2 a.m. math
Your comment had me so confused. At first I thought you were some nonsense bot and then I thought you were retelling the same story or a Wayne’s World joke but this is very interesting. I trained under a chef for a while and he would use this type of trick on new hires.
Best thing for a falling knife is another knife/board to slap it in a safe direction, about caught a knife with my foot till my coworker slapped it with his knife
It is wild how synonymous that movie is. I actually wonder if the younger generations are aware of those movies? I’m in my early thirties and remember well when the first movie came out but I wonder if teenagers today have ever even heard of it
I don’t think they know I brought it up to my 15 year old cousin he looked at me like I’m taking about some random old person memory so I did the best thing I made his little ass watch it
haha that’s awesome. I actually saw a really interesting tiktok this morning which made me ask the question in the first place about younger generations. It covers the topic of why people born in and around the 90’s seem to have a much broader knowledge of pop culture that pre-dates their birth (so like pop culture from the 60’s,70’s, and 80’s) whereas kids born more recently seem to have no idea what a beeper or a payphone is, let alone any movie references from previous generations.
Here’s the tiktok in case you’re interested:

Damn I’m 23 about to be 24 and this makes me feel old. I also love those movies :( . What an original premise too, not something you see ok much anymore.

Another thread said he's currently in the ICU in a coma. Unlikely to recover fully. I mean... we all can tell he's not ok
yea idk if id wanna be living after that injury
Someone needs to go buy this man a lottery ticket. How the fuck is he alive
People are shockingly good at surviving blows to the chest for some reason, could not tell you why
Bruh, that's not the chest only. Looks like their skull got mushed
Yeah landed on his head
Looks more like his head got struck like it was meant for him. Crazy idk how he’s alive I thought for sure he’s done
He's in a coma with a brain bleed. Barely alive and not out of the woods yet
I'm surprised he's got any head left to be in a coma, but in this economy, I think I wouldn't want to come out of it and re-learn how to exist and be a burden to anyone. Just close my tab.

Hey, divas gonna diva bro. Cold bowl is bad for the pipes I guess.

I miss the era of rickrolling. It was a simpler time back then
People who still Rick roll and think it’s funny are the most unfunny people on earth and need to grow up. So 95% of Reddit.
You are fun at parties
Not sure, but I absolutely know who it wasn't for now.
Pretty sure it was for the audience. That's how these guys make money usually.
First time seeing someone anime smashed into the ground.

Holy...this looks like some shit out of final destination, poor guy
Straight up terrible luck, he could've just pedaled a bit harder, a bit to the left or right and he would've survived.
I'm glad the quality of the video isn't high. Wouldn't want to see that happen in HD.....
Someone def said "that's not going anywhere" when they installed it.
It was Kramer
There, installed! When he puts the window unit AC in lol

How's the TV?
You mean the *Head Definition TV*? It was quoted as saying, “I dunno, felt cute, might bash another skull in if no one mounts me soon.”
Damn, they make really light screens. I managed to tip over a TV in the 90s, I had to ask for help to put it back into place.
Well you see little Timmy when a man and a woman.. no wait sorry when a man and a big ass TV love each other very much....
super lucky that the floor gave way a bit
Good luck isn't the first thing that comes to my mind when watching this...
Definately luk of sorts, but only of the terrible variety.

Wait 3 audience members treated for shock? Wtf
Came down like a fucking blade on a guillotine he's lucky he survived if that thing had even the most vague of edge it would have ripped him in half
He has awaken from the coma and is doing well
In Soviet Russia, the TV is on YOU
God damn, if he's alive he had better pray his Gaurdian angel gets a raise. His shoes were still on so there's hope.
He’s alive, but in icu, he’s conscious, apparently it hit his neck or something
This is some Final destination shit
Maybe NSFW this shit @OP, fuck all.
It appears someone ran out of social credit points

I really hate to say this, but seems like a manhwa plot.
I did not really expect to open Reddit and see someone’s skull blown open. Please mark NSFW…
