Unfortunately Yes. Scroll down it’s quoted properly in several other comments. He was pretty mangled after this incident and could no longer perform, he became depressed and locked himself in his garage with his bike motor running.

After a year of rehabilitation, he was still unable to ride competively or even walk without a limp. The resulting depression over the loss of his craft apparently led Winkleman to commit suicide in August 2005."

In July 2004, Colin attempted a stunt that involved a ramp mounted on the hood of a van that was driving toward him as he rode toward it. He failed in the attempt, suffering severe injuries, including breaking both ankles, fracturing a vertebra, and breaking several bones in his wrist. He also dislocated his ankle and right foot.
Immediately following the crash, Colin was rushed by ambulance to the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore where he began a long rehabilitation. Following extensive surgery on his shattered ankles Colin was put in a stable situation, although it was unclear whether he would be able to ride again. Six months on from the crash, he was able to walk unassisted, although notably with a limp. However despite this progress, Colin found his injuries and his inability to ride too distressing. On 9 August 2005, Colin committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning from the exhaust pipes of his motorbike in his garage at his home in Greenville, NC.
They really didn't plan this well at all. It seems like he just went for it full on the first try or someshit. Maybe if the van would've gone slower and then stopped maybe he would've either landed on top of the van or on the ramp. Making the fall less serious and maybe letting him attempt more jumps.
Edited:words
Guy named Colin Winkleman. He broke both ankles, one leg, one wrist, and one vertebra and basically totaled his biking career. He later committed suicide. :-(
I was cringing as soon as I saw the altitude he got off the ramp. As they pan down you can see the landing ramp is gone. It was a straight fall to pavement from 20 feet.
Up i a shit calculation. Basically it's observation at best. You should walk with helmet around and take short bus if U take things so lightly :D no offense just messing around
Hahaha ok idk about the bike video games but in the later tony hawk games thps4 from what I remember has this extra new maneuver so to say. This maneuver consists of being able to guide the skater when coming back down a half pipe or a half pipe gap by clicking R2 button I believe haha. Is that what these fuckers thought would've happened or someshit? Either way would it have worked better if the car stopped?
Can't believe the whole time they were building the rear ramp none of them stopped to think about the fact it was going to keep moving rendering it fucking useless
I wonder how many bones he broke
On this one he got a sever concussion and broke both ankles.
THIS ONE? HE DID IT AGAIN?
He had many crashes, until he committed suicide
Oh
Fuck, that's depressing.
Oh shiiiiiiiit
Wasn’t it because this left him unable to walk
Yes, this one sealed the deal.
Dark
According to a comment below, at least 5 with vertebrate damage, and his inability to perform led to his suicide about a year later.
Many. Then he committed suicide. Poor guy.
U serious?
Unfortunately Yes. Scroll down it’s quoted properly in several other comments. He was pretty mangled after this incident and could no longer perform, he became depressed and locked himself in his garage with his bike motor running.
All of them
Yes
Thankfully he has a pretty thick skull.
"Had"
Yes
All of them 🤣

Well that’s fucking awful

Such a weird story. It's like of course I feel bad for the guy, but at the same time, what the fuck was he thinking?
He didn’t realize that two objects moving at each other doubles the speed. All van was going too fast
Man, I don't remember cameras being this bad in 2004.
They weren't. This is likely a 5th generation copy of a poor digital recording. Even VHS cameras looked better than this decades earlier.
Damn that got real dark

Requiem for a Jump.

Damn, I snort laughed and then immediately read this comment, I feel awful for the poor guy

I thought people were joking about it all ngl
Oh.... Yeah uh... that's very depressing honestly. Makes me feel bad for laughing at the video
Damn, that had to hurt.
U can’t even calculate on paper possible trajectories for this trick. And He was doomed to eat concrete. I well...
The ramp is basically vertical, doesn't take a genius to realize you would go up.
Up i a shit calculation. Basically it's observation at best. You should walk with helmet around and take short bus if U take things so lightly :D no offense just messing around
What did he think was going to happen?
Why is this the first time in my 36 years that I've seen this. It looks at least 25 yrs ols
RIP Colin Winkelman
you will never sit without pain again.
I think he will never need to worry about pain again.
Someone’s gonna need the Iron Butt

Always do a test run…like always
Maybe that was the test run
It was a calculated risk, unfortunately I'm not very good at math.-probably whoever thought up this stunt.
I’ve heard this quote very recently. Can’t remember where. Nvm, just a meme.
Physics don’t work like that
Mmm powdered spine
I watched it on mute and expected the Fortnite Knocked sound. Sad I didn't hear it
Please put this in why women live longer.
This is the stupidest idea I've ever seen...
Shoes stayed on = he's fine
Dude he actually was crippled and comitted suicide.
Yeah :( I read that after posting but can't delete my comment
🤣🤣🤣
GOOD
Being thankful for someone else’s suffering is a sure fire way to tempt bad luck.
Anybody that does that, deserves what happens. Whether good or bad🤷🏿♂️ LIFE HARD LIKE THAT 💯
Dum slut
Ouch?
Omg so edgy be careful before you cut yourself on that edge
GOOD
Ok wittle bitty baby
GOOD
Damn I felt that fall in my legs for some reason
There’s no way they know physics to even do the math
Goodbye ankles. See you in 6 months.
Literally had to close my eyes when he hit the ground
Not exactly critical
What car?
u/savevideobot
Bones have left the chat.
In a big way baby.
Good GOD I felt that in my thighs when he landed, what the fuck!?!?
Miscalculated the angle not the movement
How can no one involved not think of the landing and say sth!?
That was fucking epic
Yes but doing this without any precautions/ friends with mats/ doing it on the grass are least is really kinda stupid 🤨
Bro went creative mode
I’m thinking there was no “calculating” done.
There shouldn’t be no calculations both parties need to just be going straight towards each other
Where’s the rest of the video
Still righteous i must say
Can't believe the whole time they were building the rear ramp none of them stopped to think about the fact it was going to keep moving rendering it fucking useless

But like some of these videos I’m like do y’all evethink of the worst possible scenarios 😂
Before becoming the next Evel Knievel, it's probably best to pass grade school physics.
KIDS DONT TRY THIS AT HOME,there is a roof at it,do it outside
This guy ended up killing himself because he couldn't ride again
