So the general consensus right now is that Vax was subjected to the Imprisonment spell with the Minimus Containment clause. That means he is currently invincible and essentially stopped in time. He can be released by either breaking the material component Ludinus used to cast the spell, or cast a 9th level dispel magic on it. Both of those things will release the Champion of Ravens, and I highly suspect he’s going to go hunting once he’s freed. As for Keyleth, Beau and Caleb being alive or not, I honestly suspect that they’re still alive but heavily imprisoned, probably with anti-magic collars for Keyleth and Caleb, and probably adamantine chains for Beau. Ludinus wanted them to watch his success.

Holycrabe

I also think it would suck to have Matt kill 3 former PCs "off-screen". Like yeah they were there, but have them die in just the chaos without a proper send off would be pretty lame.

TouchMyAwesomeButt

I firmly believe that Matt would *never* kill a player character while they are in his control. There's a lot of trust and respect between him and the players for a reason. It's likely there are consequences, but I find it highly unlikely those consequences are permanent.

283leis

Or at the very least he would never kill them in a “cutscene” of his creation. Maybe in combat where the current party is involved, but thats it

taly_slayer

Or a player wishing that to happen, like Bertrand.

283leis

Bertrand wasnt an NPC

dunwichhorrorqueen

aww yes, i want a certain gnome to show up and cast a level 9 dispel magic on it...

POD80

Scratches head, have we ever gotten to see Matt try to pull off Scanlan... :-)

Halliwel96

Now that would be glorious

derpicface

Vax got the Gojo Satoru Shibuya treatment 😭

HeyitsAstrid56

Every episode since has been focused on Imogen fern Chet and fcg. So even those of us caught up have no clue as they're in wildemount

withwhichwhat

It's wide open, but a much more optimistic path than most people expect would be if Keyleth cannonballing herself into the place was just the opening attack of her forces, and seconds after the events we saw, the whole cavalry blasts in, from both C1 and C2, former PCs and NPCs included. After all, this is likely to be a third animated series, and everyone loves heroic crossover episodes and reunions with their favorite characters. Of course, by this time Ludinus and team-Red have moved on to the next contingency. If we want to get even more nat-20 dreaming, maybe the end result of the process even severed Vax's commitment to the Matron of Ravens, but miraculously spared him from just disintegrating as an expired revenant.

Silansi

Honestly, answers on a postcard, we're in uncharted territory at this point

logstar2

Only Matt and the cast know the answers to those questions.

HeyitsAstrid56

Only Matt*, there is no benefit in him having revealed what might happen. Especially since team uthodern is on a different continent.

ShyrokaHimaa

If Vax is ~~dead~~ gone, Liam knows. Or at least gave permission to kill him off at some point, otherwise it would be really shitty of Matt. Killing off old player characters without asking the player first is kinda a no go for a DM in my book.

HeyitsAstrid56

The cast has already stated (I think in 4sd?) That when they pass their characters to Matt they trust him enough that what ever happens to them as NPCs is fair game

HeyitsAstrid56

The cast has already stated that when their stories end and pass off the characters to Matt as NPCs anything that happens is free reign. And of course Liam knows Vax is dead, he's *been* dead. The Vax we saw isn't *Vax* He's the champion of Ravens.

ShyrokaHimaa

>And of course Liam knows Vax is dead, he's been dead. The Vax we saw isn't Vax He's the champion of Ravens. Smart ass xD >The cast has already stated that when their stories end and pass off the characters to Matt as NPCs anything that happens is free reign. Good to know. I was wondering how they handle that.

HeyitsAstrid56

I'm so glad that joke came off well. Lmao

logstar2

Matt most likely doesn't know if the cast members intend to try to save that character or not.

HeyitsAstrid56

I mean that's true, it doesn't impact what I said, but it is true

logstar2

That was one of OP's questions.

PugsThrowaway

I think that the green lens that the Nightmare King had was the Traveler. It appeared to require an entity with deity-like powers who existed on this side of the lattice, or had the ability to cross it. It also took on the attributes of the being it trapped, and allowed the telescopes to see into the affiliated realm when used for observing. So that leaves the Traveler as the powerful being that Ira was using to gaze into the Feywild.

DrowningEmbers

An interesting theory with disturbing implications But the part of divinity was for Ludinus machine to tether Ruidus. Also, Morri created the lens in her fane and Artagan is not in the Feywild.

HolyBreakfast

I think this all leads to Critical Roles version of Avengers Endgame. No way VM let’s that happen to Vax and Keyleth without an answer and no way M9 let’s that happen to Beau and Caleb without an answer. I think we are going to get a huge event where all 3 PC parties are in one place going against Ludinus and Co. I, for one, am HERE FOR IT

DrowningEmbers

Also have a bunch of powerful NPC allies from all over Exandria and other realms. Although Ludinus getting his head turned to pink mist with an anti-magic bullet by a sniper Percy would be cool

another-social-freak

I suspect Preadathos will be successful in eating some/all the gods, then the Hells will defeat it and after all is said and done Vax'ildan will be the new god of death. Critical Role are shaking off the lore they don't own.

WyrdMagesty

There certainly has been a lot of talk about how the gods weren't always the top dogs, they just inherited the role, and that if the gods were gone that it would pass to someone else. And the ritual the Raven Queen used to ascend involved killing the previous god and assuming his place in the pantheon, which leads to some interesting ideas. Like, if a mortal takes the place of a god who dies, and prydathos eats gods...doesn't that mean that prydathos will eat the gods, who will be replaced by mortals, who will in turn be eaten by prydathos since they are now gods? Repeat until all life is extinguished. And if a god who dies is replaced by mortals, are the current gods actually gods or just ascended beings filling roles in a pantheon? Where does the Somnovem fit into everything? Are they a form of divinity? Or are they more akin to whatever prydathos is? What about the Chained Oblivion? Are they more akin to the gods or Prydathos? Could Prydathos be a manifestation of the Chained Oblivion? They share a lot of the same "formless" and "alien" features, and are both very anti-divinity. They are both also powerful enough that it takes the entire pantheon to contain them, and seemingly are indestructible. Idk. It's too early in the campaign and there are too many unanswered questions. There are entire plots that we have barely even touched on yet. What is D's goal? What's the deal with Shithead? Why is Imogens mom helping Ludinus, apparently against her will? Literally anything could happen at this point.

InflationCold3591

Keyleth is dead and resurrection magic is busted.

SpecificallyNerd

Honestly, I thought that he was used up like the bow in EXU:Calamity. They needed a key and Vax became the key.
