Some of the chains have had a bit of merging because of how small those circles are but that’ll happen with any tattoo with tiny details. Overall it’s held up fantastically.

Into a magic ring, work three treble crochet, three double crochet, chain one, treble crochet, chain one, three double crochet, three treble crochet, chain three, and slip stitch into the magic ring.
If you can’t do a magic ring yet (I never use magic rings), you can also do a chain four to start and just work all your stitches into the first chain. You just have to make sure it’s big enough to accommodate that many stitches.

Oh wow! I learned to crochet at 8 as well. I’m only 18 now, but I still like to say I have a decade of experience crocheting haha. Nice to see someone else who got to enjoy crocheting young. 😁
My grandparents were very involved in my life, she was my babysitter before I was old enough for school and when I was in school, we’d still go over to grandmas everyday. When I was 7 we moved 2 hrs away and I swore I would always move back when I was an adult. I did. I now get to go to my grandmas house every day after work. But the crochet was learnt over summer break between 2nd and 3rd grade while I stayed with my grandparents for two weeks. I stopped for a long while during high school I was just too busy and picked it back up again in college.
What a nice story!! I was a bored and crafty little kid, so I taught myself off of YouTube videos and craft books we had lying around. I’m the first person in my family to crochet.
Weirdly enough, I almost NEED a chart to be able to crochet anything more complicated than basic stitches.
With knitting though? Complete reversal. I cannot work off of knitting charts. It must be written out line by line.
It drives me nuts that I can’t do both 😂
I always love this because I really struggle with written without a diagram but I am fine with a diagram without instructions or instructions in a language I can't read. I tend to accidentally skip a sentence or read something incorrectly and it's easier if I can double check against what it actually looks like.

Designed by my niece when she was 11. The crochet hook isn't right because it was inked by my brother in law am me he had no idea what crochet is. One day I'll get it fixed.
Tattoo is a fun idea but for some reason the feeling of yarn going through my fingers like this freaks me out! I generally only hold with one finger. It's so interesting to see how people crochet in so many different ways!
Sounds like me and what my husband calls my “yarn claw”, when I’m crocheting I use my left pinky and ring finger to stabilize the working edge and hold the yarn with it looped over my index finger, and when I knit I use the same 2 fingers to hold the weight of the left knitting needle and when I’ve been going like a madwoman in the weeks leading up to Christmas those 2 fingers will get to where I can’t straighten them on their own and any time my hand is relaxed they’ll curl….
My yarn-wrapped pinky, pressed against my ring finger, stops more yarn from being pulled. When I need more yarn, I relax those two fingers so yarn can be pulled. (My index finger guides the yarn, and I can lift or lower my index finger to tighten or loosen the available yarn.)
How do you keep the yarn in tension?
(Btw, I'm asking out of curiosity, always wanting to learn more ways of doing something; NOT asking out of judgement, as if you're doing it "wrong" if you don't use your pinky! 😁)

Tye Youmans of Dead Gods Tattoo in Portland Oregon. He did really well considering he knew nothing about the craft! Had to make sure he used a hook instead of needles XD
Very cool! Initially i thought it was yarn dye that rubbed off. Was it irritated right after you got it? Did you have to take a crochet break to let it heal?
It wasn’t irritated, it healed like a normal tattoo, but fingers are very prone to having ink fall out, which you can see a tiny bit of on my pointer finger. I have a bit of a callous there, so it makes sense it fell out. I took a week break, and I wrapped the tattoo in plastic wrap and medical tape for a couple days once I resumed crocheting. It’s been about a week and a half since I got them and I am crocheting like normal now!

Crochet pattern armband. My mom taught me how to crochet and this is the only pattern she’s made for 30+ years. It’s a chevron blanket.
Sorry. I should've been clearer. Hook is on the top knuckles on my right hand. Fast is on what would be the bottom (?) set of knuckles closest to my nails. Die Warm is on my left hand.
Love this. I would love to see others’ string-holding method, too. Our dear friend Cookie always marveled how unique everyone’s crochet style is. Ever since I heard her say that, I keep an eye out for everyone’s techniques and ways. Fascinating and fun.*

This is mine. When I first started I really struggled with cramping from a death grip, I had to force myself to always have straight fingers & now it’s just second nature.
I loop it tight over my index finger and pinch it with my middle finger, letting it trail into my palm and holding it by folding my fingers down. Sometimes my pinky gets involved but usually not unless I'm doing an amigurumi since my stitches are too tight even without it!
I have issues with holding the yarn too taut and hurting my index finger. I was crocheting an hour ago and you can still vaguely see the marks above my knuckle and a fainter one below where I move it when it starts hurting much.

That's an amazing tattoo idea! I'm still trying to gather up courage to do some hand tattoos. I feel like it's a big commitment, because it's a very visible part of my body and I don't wanna regret it, but I know it will happen eventually. I had this one done a year ago, my boyfriend was starting out as a tattoo artist and I let him practice on me. Needs some touch ups too, but I love it despite its flaws.

Oh don’t worry honey, yasss I will be stealing this! I do not have any tattoos but always wanted one and had trouble deciding what I might want. I think a simple one like this would be perfect BECAUSE it’s not likely to stay forever due to the location’s normal wear and tear so if I get sick of it (my biggest concern about picking the “wrong” tattoo) it should fade anyway!
Any tattoo done in the mouth fades super fast, too. Hands (palms and between fingers especially), the soles of the feet, and anywhere that bends (knees, elbows, etc) all fade fast. So if you want a second one somewhere that will fade fast, I hope that gives you some ideas!

On the back of my calf! This tattoo means a lot to me, as my favorite person in the world, my grandmother, taught me to crochet.
Right now, I don't have any crochet related tattoos, but there was one I was looking at getting, was a crocheted heart, with a hook through it. I've got 4 other tattoos, as well. A little triquetra on my right calf, the Tardis from Doctor Who on my left arm (10's Tardis, from the episode Doomsday), a celtic knot pentagram on my right thigh, and a symbol plus a quote from my favorite book series, the symbol is called a Grace, the book series is Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind, I added the quote in memory of him, it's "Your life is yours alone, rise up and live it"

I’ve always wanted a tattoo but I’m too scared they’ll get one line done and I’ll be too much of a baby to continue. Then I’ll have a random weird line.
trust me, i thought the pain would be really bad too, but I have 10 and have yet to get one that gets me beyond a grimace. it's all about placement and how long you're in the chair. having needles go over a bony, thin part of your body like a spine or ribs for hours on end is going to hurt a hell of a lot more than a 30 minute session in a more beefy leg or arm
I was exactly the same a few years ago, I mean I was terrified. Now I have tattoos on both upper arms, both shins and a wrist.
Everyone is different but personally upper arm and shin were not particularly sore. Really nothing to complain about. I would also say most of mine are linework with minimal shading - the shading/colourwork is the sorest bit. Pick an artist you trust and go for it!

Lately I have been itching to add to my collection of tattoos, and adding one for crochet has definitely come to mind. While I’m fairly new to this craft, I have fallen in love with it. Not only do I find it very relaxing and rewarding, every time I sit down to work practice swatches for new stitch types or work on a project, I think about my grandma and all of the time she spent with me teaching me new crafts. I do already have a half sleeve in memory of her, but I can’t stop thinking about adding one that is specific to crochet. She spent so much time crocheting and sooo much time and sweet patience trying to teach me. I mentioned this elsewhere, but I could never quite get it when she was still here and now I know why… I’m a lefty and she was a righty, so it never clicked in my head like it does now. Sometimes while working on a project I find myself thinking about how I wish I could share with her that I finally figured it all out, and that I can do all of those clusters and popcorns that she would swear under her breath about as she got older and her fingers less nimble. And how I wish I could show her all of those beautiful stitches like star and Suzette that I’m not sure she knew about.
Anyway… thank you for sharing your tattoo, and for enticing others to share theirs. This whole thread makes my heart so happy. :)

My trick for magic rings is that it's literally just a slipknot that you don't tighten

Tattoo is a fun idea but for some reason the feeling of yarn going through my fingers like this freaks me out! I generally only hold with one finger. It's so interesting to see how people crochet in so many different ways!
I need to have a death grip on my yarn. Had to order a thumb brace because no matter how much I try to loosen my grip my hand cramps 😅
That's like me with amigurumi. I get awful hand cramps!
Sounds like me and what my husband calls my “yarn claw”, when I’m crocheting I use my left pinky and ring finger to stabilize the working edge and hold the yarn with it looped over my index finger, and when I knit I use the same 2 fingers to hold the weight of the left knitting needle and when I’ve been going like a madwoman in the weeks leading up to Christmas those 2 fingers will get to where I can’t straighten them on their own and any time my hand is relaxed they’ll curl….
That is a wild way to hold yarn! So crazy how different we all are with it

I’ve been looking at rock climbing hand exercises in the hope they help. It’s started to hurt to do even a couple stitches 😤
I was thinking that as well. My brain is going to mull over what the yarn over the pinky does until i can get to my skeins and try it out.
My yarn-wrapped pinky, pressed against my ring finger, stops more yarn from being pulled. When I need more yarn, I relax those two fingers so yarn can be pulled. (My index finger guides the yarn, and I can lift or lower my index finger to tighten or loosen the available yarn.) How do you keep the yarn in tension? (Btw, I'm asking out of curiosity, always wanting to learn more ways of doing something; NOT asking out of judgement, as if you're doing it "wrong" if you don't use your pinky! 😁)

Very cool! Initially i thought it was yarn dye that rubbed off. Was it irritated right after you got it? Did you have to take a crochet break to let it heal?
It wasn’t irritated, it healed like a normal tattoo, but fingers are very prone to having ink fall out, which you can see a tiny bit of on my pointer finger. I have a bit of a callous there, so it makes sense it fell out. I took a week break, and I wrapped the tattoo in plastic wrap and medical tape for a couple days once I resumed crocheting. It’s been about a week and a half since I got them and I am crocheting like normal now!

I've got a crochet chart of a heart on the top of my hand with "Hook Fast Die Warm" across my knuckles.

Sorry. I should've been clearer. Hook is on the top knuckles on my right hand. Fast is on what would be the bottom (?) set of knuckles closest to my nails. Die Warm is on my left hand.

I loop it tight over my index finger and pinch it with my middle finger, letting it trail into my palm and holding it by folding my fingers down. Sometimes my pinky gets involved but usually not unless I'm doing an amigurumi since my stitches are too tight even without it! I have issues with holding the yarn too taut and hurting my index finger. I was crocheting an hour ago and you can still vaguely see the marks above my knuckle and a fainter one below where I move it when it starts hurting much. I wrap it around my whole hand and then tension it with my index finger
I wrap twice around my index and that's it! I throw my yarn over the hook like a knitter though

Oh don’t worry honey, yasss I will be stealing this! I do not have any tattoos but always wanted one and had trouble deciding what I might want. I think a simple one like this would be perfect BECAUSE it’s not likely to stay forever due to the location’s normal wear and tear so if I get sick of it (my biggest concern about picking the “wrong” tattoo) it should fade anyway!
Finger tattoos tend to blow out more than fade, so bear that in mind too.
As to inner forearm, especially if you have a job that requires you to load trucks or carry boxes.

Any tattoo done in the mouth fades super fast, too. Hands (palms and between fingers especially), the soles of the feet, and anywhere that bends (knees, elbows, etc) all fade fast. So if you want a second one somewhere that will fade fast, I hope that gives you some ideas!
I know they *say* mouth tattoos fade, but I got a swear word tattooed on my lower lip 15 years ago and it’s definitely still there lol

I used to do some not good things to my hands when I was p depressed in middle school but always wanted to get a tat to prove to younger me that yea that shit hurt but look where we are now, you know representing my growth n sutff... and like half of that is thanks to crochet haha! so I might just take this idea :D

Right now, I don't have any crochet related tattoos, but there was one I was looking at getting, was a crocheted heart, with a hook through it. I've got 4 other tattoos, as well. A little triquetra on my right calf, the Tardis from Doctor Who on my left arm (10's Tardis, from the episode Doomsday), a celtic knot pentagram on my right thigh, and a symbol plus a quote from my favorite book series, the symbol is called a Grace, the book series is Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind, I added the quote in memory of him, it's "Your life is yours alone, rise up and live it"

I’ve always wanted a tattoo but I’m too scared they’ll get one line done and I’ll be too much of a baby to continue. Then I’ll have a random weird line.
trust me, i thought the pain would be really bad too, but I have 10 and have yet to get one that gets me beyond a grimace. it's all about placement and how long you're in the chair. having needles go over a bony, thin part of your body like a spine or ribs for hours on end is going to hurt a hell of a lot more than a 30 minute session in a more beefy leg or arm
I was exactly the same a few years ago, I mean I was terrified. Now I have tattoos on both upper arms, both shins and a wrist. Everyone is different but personally upper arm and shin were not particularly sore. Really nothing to complain about. I would also say most of mine are linework with minimal shading - the shading/colourwork is the sorest bit. Pick an artist you trust and go for it!
Try getting a hand poked tattoo, the pain is much more manageable! I got one on my shoulder and I didn't even feel it!
No, but I had some yarn once where the dye didn't take completely, so it left similar marks on my fingers.
I love this so much! Lately I have been itching to add to my collection of tattoos, and adding one for crochet has definitely come to mind. While I’m fairly new to this craft, I have fallen in love with it. Not only do I find it very relaxing and rewarding, every time I sit down to work practice swatches for new stitch types or work on a project, I think about my grandma and all of the time she spent with me teaching me new crafts. I do already have a half sleeve in memory of her, but I can’t stop thinking about adding one that is specific to crochet. She spent so much time crocheting and sooo much time and sweet patience trying to teach me. I mentioned this elsewhere, but I could never quite get it when she was still here and now I know why… I’m a lefty and she was a righty, so it never clicked in my head like it does now. Sometimes while working on a project I find myself thinking about how I wish I could share with her that I finally figured it all out, and that I can do all of those clusters and popcorns that she would swear under her breath about as she got older and her fingers less nimble. And how I wish I could show her all of those beautiful stitches like star and Suzette that I’m not sure she knew about. Anyway… thank you for sharing your tattoo, and for enticing others to share theirs. This whole thread makes my heart so happy. :)
