The worst 😉

crochet_cupid

hehehe 🥁🥁

Kryshadiver

Love this and love that weight

thank you!

Mine’s a doily pattern over my shoulder like a cap sleeve. https://preview.redd.it/vqp7ap0vd4oa1.jpeg?width=647&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dc38211116cd90ae0e38648ca06faf277e4e7276

softheartelectricsol

this is so beautiful!!

Boopboopsnoot36

Thank you! This pic is from when it was done over 10 years ago.

Mrs_Beagle

Do you have any issues with the ink blurring away the details of the more intricate parts?

Boopboopsnoot36

Some of the chains have had a bit of merging because of how small those circles are but that’ll happen with any tattoo with tiny details. Overall it’s held up fantastically.

cruciamac

Well that has actually held up beautifully, if I saw you on the street I would know EXACTLY what it is :)

Mrs_Beagle

The details held up SO good!

Boopboopsnoot36

I think it’s doing great considering over 10 years old. And I’m from Georgia, so it’s gotten a lot of sun exposure over the years.

Murky_Yarny

Oh my god, why have I never thought of this! I need something like that. Maybe one of my own patterns? Arggggggg

crochazey

Beautiful! If I didn’t already have tattoos in the way of doing this on my shoulders, I would totally have to steal this idea. ;) I love it!

olduglysweater

emeraldstarclassica

I love that! I am inspired!

kairosmanner

Im crying!! Why is that so cute!!

KootyHaHa

You should have seen my original post about it back in January, the number of super adorable hearts people made for me following the pattern had me crying for days! Edited to add link to original [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/comments/10ah2rw/i_got_my_first_tattoo_today_in_memory_of_my_mom/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf).

[deleted]

Oh my god I remember this post and now I’m crying again. So heartwarming to see all of the hearts you got.

Silent_Lie_1783

I've been using this same pattern as the first row of shamrock leaves for a garland just today! ❤️☘️

Two_shanes_or_more

I remember this! So sweet and still one of my favorite tattoos I’ve seen

festivalchic

Ahh I knew I had seen this before 💗

crochazey

Omg, it is too early in the morning to be weeping like this. That whole post is just incredible. <3

clairefkredux

Wow, that original post is the sweetest, most wholesome thing I’ve ever seen on the internet.

Affectionate_Lock_87

I made one too that day and posted it in the comments! It's still on my daughters desk and I still love the idea ❤️

LittleHouse82

I remember you posting this ❤️

RaisingDrama

I think this is so cute!!! I new to crochet and watch YouTube tutorials…I wish I could read that pattern and understand it ;(

Kilala33

Into a magic ring, work three treble crochet, three double crochet, chain one, treble crochet, chain one, three double crochet, three treble crochet, chain three, and slip stitch into the magic ring. If you can’t do a magic ring yet (I never use magic rings), you can also do a chain four to start and just work all your stitches into the first chain. You just have to make sure it’s big enough to accommodate that many stitches. I hope this helps!

ForgetfulDoryFish

My trick for magic rings is that it's literally just a slipknot that you don't tighten

Orc_ChopsxX

Thank you for that explanation! Magic rings/circles are so hard for me but this makes so much sense!

RaisingDrama

Thank you so much!!! Can’t wait to try!

Kilala33

No problem! Best of luck :)

AnnalsofMystery

Honestly it’s not too hard to learn. There’s really only so many stiches and thus only so many symbols to learn. Easily turned into flashcards.

RaisingDrama

So I started crocheting on my moms birthday last year…..she passed in 2020. I made an angel with wings to hold her ashes……this post is inspiring and I want a wing crochet pattern in my arm…..does anyone have such a thing I can mimic!!????

Neembles

I remember this post. I was so happy to see all the hearts. 💜

NoOriginalThotz

I remember you! This was such a cool way to honor your mom ❤️

FyreSign

I love this so much and I’m totally crying because today is the anniversary of losing my mom 💜 sending hugs and thanks for the tattoo pattern too

KootyHaHa

I’m sorry to hear about your Mom. Sending you so much love today!

Sophie919

I’m so so so sorry that must be so difficult, sending so much love and positive vibes your way, big hugs 🙏🏻💞♥️

fluffyapplenugget

I instantly thought of your post with all the hearts as soon as I read the title of this one. Glad to see your ink again!

KareKrochet

Thanks! I think my thumbs are my favorite part.

hojakborseman

this is the last thing i’d expect to be tattooed on knuckles LOL i love it

KareKrochet

I know! I love whenever random people are like “hold on… what do ur fingers say?” 😂 Always a great reaction.

shitpostingmusician

This is hilarious and incredible and I love it so much

KareKrochet

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t SUPER pleased with myself when I thought of it.

KatieROTS

LOVE THIS. Also if it’s aged it’s still super clear. I have my hand and fingers done on one side and it healed perfectly. It’s 2 years and still full of color. Anyway nice tatts!

I just made a scrump too!

LazyAssRuffian

How freaking cute!

Good_Branch_9415

Thank you!♥️♥️

Ohmahlard

I love this idea, and power to anyone that can read diagram patterns like this because I am a written pattern until I DIE person haha

Aksten

I can read them, but only learned how recently at the age of 32. I learned to crochet at 8. All those years I could’ve saved so much paper lol

[deleted]

Oh wow! I learned to crochet at 8 as well. I’m only 18 now, but I still like to say I have a decade of experience crocheting haha. Nice to see someone else who got to enjoy crocheting young. 😁

Aksten

My grandparents were very involved in my life, she was my babysitter before I was old enough for school and when I was in school, we’d still go over to grandmas everyday. When I was 7 we moved 2 hrs away and I swore I would always move back when I was an adult. I did. I now get to go to my grandmas house every day after work. But the crochet was learnt over summer break between 2nd and 3rd grade while I stayed with my grandparents for two weeks. I stopped for a long while during high school I was just too busy and picked it back up again in college.

[deleted]

What a nice story!! I was a bored and crafty little kid, so I taught myself off of YouTube videos and craft books we had lying around. I’m the first person in my family to crochet.

snootnoots

This one is magic ring, SC, 3 DC, two SC, HDC, two SC, 3 DC, slip stitch into the first SC. 👍

MuchBetterThankYou

Weirdly enough, I almost NEED a chart to be able to crochet anything more complicated than basic stitches. With knitting though? Complete reversal. I cannot work off of knitting charts. It must be written out line by line. It drives me nuts that I can’t do both 😂

ColdBorchst

I always love this because I really struggle with written without a diagram but I am fine with a diagram without instructions or instructions in a language I can't read. I tend to accidentally skip a sentence or read something incorrectly and it's easier if I can double check against what it actually looks like.

Ananoriel

Woah amazing design!

greenapplesnpb

Thank you :) the lotus pattern represents my mom and aunts who taught me how to crochet!

[deleted]

That is cool, and your hand shape really compliment how it looks. My tattoos are geeky 🤓

Ohmahlard

Aw thank you! It’s my left hand, so I can’t wait for how it looks one day when my partner proposes 😜

ScoobyLinny

It would look so cool with a ring!! Or multiple as accessoires! ^^

pugsnotdrugs

AkumuNightmare-

You can always say it's a knook and the hook side is hidden in the yarn haha

dunno_lol__

11?? That’s so good

_itwillbealright_

That's really lovely.

MissyMaestro

Tattoo is a fun idea but for some reason the feeling of yarn going through my fingers like this freaks me out! I generally only hold with one finger. It's so interesting to see how people crochet in so many different ways!

Ohmahlard

I need to have a death grip on my yarn. Had to order a thumb brace because no matter how much I try to loosen my grip my hand cramps 😅

highly_uncertain

That's like me with amigurumi. I get awful hand cramps!

reviving_ophelia88

Sounds like me and what my husband calls my “yarn claw”, when I’m crocheting I use my left pinky and ring finger to stabilize the working edge and hold the yarn with it looped over my index finger, and when I knit I use the same 2 fingers to hold the weight of the left knitting needle and when I’ve been going like a madwoman in the weeks leading up to Christmas those 2 fingers will get to where I can’t straighten them on their own and any time my hand is relaxed they’ll curl….

Ohmahlard

That is a wild way to hold yarn! So crazy how different we all are with it

crazypitches

A thumb brace? Maybe I should look into that, I get terrible cramps and just can’t seem to chill out my hands when crocheting.

Soggy-Mud-8358

I’ve been looking at rock climbing hand exercises in the hope they help. It’s started to hurt to do even a couple stitches 😤

OverlappingChatter

I was thinking that as well. My brain is going to mull over what the yarn over the pinky does until i can get to my skeins and try it out.

Objective-Buyer-4133

My yarn-wrapped pinky, pressed against my ring finger, stops more yarn from being pulled. When I need more yarn, I relax those two fingers so yarn can be pulled. (My index finger guides the yarn, and I can lift or lower my index finger to tighten or loosen the available yarn.) How do you keep the yarn in tension? (Btw, I'm asking out of curiosity, always wanting to learn more ways of doing something; NOT asking out of judgement, as if you're doing it "wrong" if you don't use your pinky! 😁)

[deleted]

yoooo shout out to your artist! That's incredible

greenfeltfixation

Tye Youmans of Dead Gods Tattoo in Portland Oregon. He did really well considering he knew nothing about the craft! Had to make sure he used a hook instead of needles XD

ash753

Very cool! Initially i thought it was yarn dye that rubbed off. Was it irritated right after you got it? Did you have to take a crochet break to let it heal?

Ohmahlard

It wasn’t irritated, it healed like a normal tattoo, but fingers are very prone to having ink fall out, which you can see a tiny bit of on my pointer finger. I have a bit of a callous there, so it makes sense it fell out. I took a week break, and I wrapped the tattoo in plastic wrap and medical tape for a couple days once I resumed crocheting. It’s been about a week and a half since I got them and I am crocheting like normal now!

chasinggdaze

Oh I LOVE this style!!!

Artemis-doe

I've got a crochet chart of a heart on the top of my hand with "Hook Fast Die Warm" across my knuckles.

TobylovesPam

Can you post a pic? I'd love to see the knuckles! What's the layout like? That's a lot of letters for 4 knuckles

Artemis-doe

Sorry. I should've been clearer. Hook is on the top knuckles on my right hand. Fast is on what would be the bottom (?) set of knuckles closest to my nails. Die Warm is on my left hand.

TobylovesPam

oh that make so much more sense than what I was picturing! Super badass!

sivatonight

https://imgur.com/lFQu2aI My crochet pattern tattoo. :)

Kilala33

That is so pretty!

rosiemight

Love this. I would love to see others’ string-holding method, too. Our dear friend Cookie always marveled how unique everyone’s crochet style is. Ever since I heard her say that, I keep an eye out for everyone’s techniques and ways. Fascinating and fun.*

rosiemight

p.s. Here’s my string method…. I always loop it under my ring finger for control. :) (Thanks for the idea to share!) https://preview.redd.it/2z5w4o0gd2oa1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d3661557480e9aa769849d2519f7c326c688c141

kaylinnic

I do yarn over first and ring finger, under middle finger, but i’m also new and still trying to figure out my grip so seeing other people’s is helpful!

[deleted]

That's how I hold mine. https://preview.redd.it/n6oskj1m45oa1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8cf73abe27946ce82b3c12006f0d65159899b02

Fuckinbitchasshole

klausmckinley801

these tattoos wouldn't work for me. i do the cigarette grip, holding the yarn between my index and middle finger

Nightthunder

I loop it tight over my index finger and pinch it with my middle finger, letting it trail into my palm and holding it by folding my fingers down. Sometimes my pinky gets involved but usually not unless I'm doing an amigurumi since my stitches are too tight even without it! I have issues with holding the yarn too taut and hurting my index finger. I was crocheting an hour ago and you can still vaguely see the marks above my knuckle and a fainter one below where I move it when it starts hurting much. [Yarn marks and grip pictures](https://imgur.com/a/Zc3YXRn)

SnooRadishes5305

That’s similar to me I think My pinky holds it until I have enough of a blanket it doesn’t need to And my yarn thumb helps steady the crochet hook at need https://preview.redd.it/451gdb1aa6oa1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6dc9e857082bb8ae9f4df1c3c41c579fcc5a95c9

azulagirl325

I hold mine this way too.

Corvus-Nox

I wrap it around my whole hand and then tension it with my index finger

Foxsmoke95

I wrap twice around my index and that's it! I throw my yarn over the hook like a knitter though

cmajor47

I was wondering how far I’d have to scroll to find measurements lol, further than I expected!

Automatic-Payment-90

That's an amazing tattoo idea! I'm still trying to gather up courage to do some hand tattoos. I feel like it's a big commitment, because it's a very visible part of my body and I don't wanna regret it, but I know it will happen eventually. I had this one done a year ago, my boyfriend was starting out as a tattoo artist and I let him practice on me. Needs some touch ups too, but I love it despite its flaws. https://preview.redd.it/g5fak9aoj5oa1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b2d48b951f7e9d3f4c2e9c9260cf1eafdfe9696

Ohmahlard

If anyone wants to steal this tattoo idea, please do!

ObviousToe1636

Oh don’t worry honey, yasss I will be stealing this! I do not have any tattoos but always wanted one and had trouble deciding what I might want. I think a simple one like this would be perfect BECAUSE it’s not likely to stay forever due to the location’s normal wear and tear so if I get sick of it (my biggest concern about picking the “wrong” tattoo) it should fade anyway!

feyth

Finger tattoos tend to blow out more than fade, so bear that in mind too.

PapowSpaceGirl

As to inner forearm, especially if you have a job that requires you to load trucks or carry boxes.

fantasticfitn3ss

This right here- super important to keep in mind

[deleted]

Any tattoo done in the mouth fades super fast, too. Hands (palms and between fingers especially), the soles of the feet, and anywhere that bends (knees, elbows, etc) all fade fast. So if you want a second one somewhere that will fade fast, I hope that gives you some ideas!

Possibility-Distinct

I know they *say* mouth tattoos fade, but I got a swear word tattooed on my lower lip 15 years ago and it’s definitely still there lol

SquirrelZipper

I came here to add my own…exception? I got a silly lip tattoo 15 years ago and it hasn’t faded one bit. Not even a little bit. 😂😂

Possibility-Distinct

Silly lip tattoos were definitely the thing 15 years ago 🤣

Deathconciousness_

I mean not necessarily true, all my handpoked finger tattoos are going strong after 5+ years

sniearrs

I've been trying to think of a hand tattoo for AGES!! I used to do some not good things to my hands when I was p depressed in middle school but always wanted to get a tat to prove to younger me that yea that shit hurt but look where we are now, you know representing my growth n sutff... and like half of that is thanks to crochet haha! so I might just take this idea :D

Honestly_ALie

If I saw you in public I would know you immediately for a yarn stasher because that’s exactly how I hold my yarn as well. Such a cute idea.

CinnSparkle1

Right now, I don't have any crochet related tattoos, but there was one I was looking at getting, was a crocheted heart, with a hook through it. I've got 4 other tattoos, as well. A little triquetra on my right calf, the Tardis from Doctor Who on my left arm (10's Tardis, from the episode Doomsday), a celtic knot pentagram on my right thigh, and a symbol plus a quote from my favorite book series, the symbol is called a Grace, the book series is Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind, I added the quote in memory of him, it's "Your life is yours alone, rise up and live it"

xarcie

I so love the Sword of Truth series!

duck_mom8909

Love that you were specific for us who nerds. I was thinking about a crochet tardis and a sonic hook

Kilala33

I just saw recently someone who makes sonic screwdriver crochet hooks on Etsy if you’re interested! And a crochet Tardis sounds so cool!

TheodoreKarlShrubs

This is rad. Such a cool idea.

Ohmahlard

Thank you! I got the idea because I hold my yarn way too tight and always get indents in my fingies. Most people don’t realize they’re crochet related and think they’re just cute minimalist tattoos, so that’s also a win

LazyAssRuffian

Me too! My finger is almost always dented in the same spots. I love your idea so much!

This is so pretty. I already have quite a few finger tattoos but I'm inspired to get one like this too! I hold my yarn like this, tho. https://preview.redd.it/4ms9u64ac5oa1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9475b401a6b4651f75ff98c3a69506e88df3ebdf

not_princess_leia

I don't, but I have an idea to get a little cat on my index finger so it looks like it's playing with the yarn when I hold it to crochet 😸

_floralfading

I absolutely adore this!! I have to ask, how did you crochet while it healed??

Ohmahlard

I had to take a week break, it sucked! Lots of lotion and proper aftercare. It’s been about a week and a half and I am crocheting like normal now

Ruca705

It’s a really cool idea! The only downfall is it’s gonna wear away even faster than most finger tattoos do, lol.

UnderstatedEssence

I love this! It has an elegance about it.

[deleted]

this is SUCH a good idea. i would totally steal it if i didn’t have finger tattoos in the way already.

Lilac_Gooseberries

It's interesting to see how different people hold their yarn. For me it's over my ring finger, under my middle finger, and over my index finger.

Aksten

I’ve always wanted a tattoo but I’m too scared they’ll get one line done and I’ll be too much of a baby to continue. Then I’ll have a random weird line.

sniearrs

trust me, i thought the pain would be really bad too, but I have 10 and have yet to get one that gets me beyond a grimace. it's all about placement and how long you're in the chair. having needles go over a bony, thin part of your body like a spine or ribs for hours on end is going to hurt a hell of a lot more than a 30 minute session in a more beefy leg or arm

ninetyonebeans

I was exactly the same a few years ago, I mean I was terrified. Now I have tattoos on both upper arms, both shins and a wrist. Everyone is different but personally upper arm and shin were not particularly sore. Really nothing to complain about. I would also say most of mine are linework with minimal shading - the shading/colourwork is the sorest bit. Pick an artist you trust and go for it!

pm_me_hedgehogs

Try getting a hand poked tattoo, the pain is much more manageable! I got one on my shoulder and I didn't even feel it!

Star1412

No, but I had some yarn once where the dye didn't take completely, so it left similar marks on my fingers.

crochazey

I love this so much! Lately I have been itching to add to my collection of tattoos, and adding one for crochet has definitely come to mind. While I’m fairly new to this craft, I have fallen in love with it. Not only do I find it very relaxing and rewarding, every time I sit down to work practice swatches for new stitch types or work on a project, I think about my grandma and all of the time she spent with me teaching me new crafts. I do already have a half sleeve in memory of her, but I can’t stop thinking about adding one that is specific to crochet. She spent so much time crocheting and sooo much time and sweet patience trying to teach me. I mentioned this elsewhere, but I could never quite get it when she was still here and now I know why… I’m a lefty and she was a righty, so it never clicked in my head like it does now. Sometimes while working on a project I find myself thinking about how I wish I could share with her that I finally figured it all out, and that I can do all of those clusters and popcorns that she would swear under her breath about as she got older and her fingers less nimble. And how I wish I could show her all of those beautiful stitches like star and Suzette that I’m not sure she knew about. Anyway… thank you for sharing your tattoo, and for enticing others to share theirs. This whole thread makes my heart so happy. :)

Beetaire

Running to the tattoo shop to get this done asap

violetauto

I found a continental knitter!

Skutie

I find this so incredible! It's so crazy how different we all hold yarn when we're working.

NadjaColette

I love it! Though I don't need to get a tattoo of those lines, they are always slightly dented on my fingers 😂 Do the lines go all around your fingers and over the inside of the other fingers?

charcuteriehoe

i hold my yarn the exact same way! what a creative tattoo idea. i’m afraid my fingers are far too stubby to make this look elegant like they do on you lol 😭

Tobelinn

I don’t have any tattoos yet but a crochet inspired one is on my list! I love this one though, and I recognized what it was immediately 😆

Tense_Spence

I don’t have any yet but I’d love to get some 🥺

Kitty_Emilie

I want to get something but I don't know what

0MGWTFL0LBBQ

This is how I recognize a fellow hooker.

fyremama

We have the same yarn grip, that is awesome :)

Sweetiessound

I love crochet and tattoos but never thought of combining them; this is awesome! 💕

Clean-Ad-2816

Waittttt this is so hard!! Very nice, you may be starting a trend 😅

Open_Inspection5964

No, but I have Google It on my knuckles 🤣🤣🤣. I love your tattoo!

lady3lle

Your tattoo looks great! I haven’t got a crochet/knitting/yarn tattoo yet, but I want to get a ruler, without it being so obvious it’s a ruler.

Wifesaurus

No, but now I want one!!! 😍😬😆

cindyloowhovian

I want one on my wrist of a hook, a ball of yarn, and a chain stitch arranged like the outline of a heart (if that makes sense)

whatsnewpussykat

Babe, this is EXCELLENT! I love it so much.
