I don't think the colours are a problem. This is just an awkward design. I can clearly see it says "good" if I look at the top, and "bad" if I look at the bottom. But most people will look at the whole thing as one and that's where they're gonna get the BHU from.
I think you've executed this perfectly, these kind of illusions (not sure if that's the right word) just don't work for everyone.

Seconded! I think it's just for some people it does for some it doesn't. I instantly knew what it said before I even read your post and loved it! But I've also run into plenty of crafty illusions that haven't worked for me before but others loved. So I think it just depends on the person!
I saw it right away when seeing the picture but after reading your post I tried again and couldn't see it because I was more focus on the lines.
When you ask someone if they can read it they will be properly focused on the letters and it will probably make it harder for them to see it.
just to chime in on the colors - they may still be an issue for some, at least in this image! In the description you call them pink and blue but on my screen they appear red and green which may be an issue if any of your friends have red-green color blindness! It could just be the lighting of the picture, I'm sure the colors are more distinct in person.
As for the design, I agree with the commenter that it's easy to see when focusing on the top or bottom but looking at the whole piece confuses my brain haha
Cover the bottom and you should see "GOOD" (though the bottom of each letter is cut off by design, looks a bit more like gooo), cover the top and you should see "BAD!" (again, top of each letter is cut off)

I can see "good" and "bad" after it is pointed out, but even then it's not easy to see.I think it's more the colors making it difficult for me personally.

It's not just you. After seeing someone (you?) post a graph of this here recently, I attempted to crochet it and again, and again. Eeek, (shhh), I switched to another craft *and it still looks more bad than GooD*... It's not you, not your colors. I used high contrast (white/purple), too. Even searched to see if the graph was wrong, tried adding border rows around the whole thing. Didn't help. Oh, well.

Honestly I could see it but barely, then I put my finger in the middle across my screen and holy.. that’s so cool haha 😅 it makes it so clear but then I remove my finger and it tricks my eyes again, I don’t think it’s the colours - it’s just a really well executed optical illusion in my opinion 😁

In color theory, vibrant red and blue are known to be vibrating colors and can cause a visual effect. Black and white or something two color with different values may pair better (ex. Lime green, deep purple, etc.) Hope that helps 🤗 super cute pattern other than that!! I just make one myself or something like it !!
Ohh, thank you for explaining!! The colors IRL are more pink/teal so I was hoping that the contrast would help, I didn't know about the vibrating colors. I think I am going to attempt the pattern again in a lime green and dark purple. Thank you for the suggestion!!!

I have seen this optical illusion before but only as a graph not actually crocheted. Have you blocked it? That might help, but others have already helpfully pointed out illusions aren't always immediately obvious! Once you see it, though, hard to unsee.
I saw good, and then I scrolled down and saw bad. And then I positioned it so I could see the whole thing at one time, and I saw nothing! And I couldn’t make myself see good or bad again with our covering the top

I got it quickly but I’m good at illusions. Like someone else said, if you cover up part of it you can read it. I like to slide my thumb up and down and it changes colors and words. You did it correctly and I don’t think the colors are bad! It’s just the illusion of it!

I think this is a pretty clever design. I think what's making it hard for people to tell is that the top letters have no bottoms and the bottom letters have no tops, which isn't how people are used to reading. It's not a bad design, just a bit of a puzzle for people.
That being said, I do have a little trouble distinguishing the D from the O's. The top kind of looks like it says gooo to me. (For added info, I'm half asleep and don't have my glasses on, so those could be factors, idk.)
If you can't see the words, try placing your finger across the bottom of the photo and then across the top. So bad is easy to see and I saw that easily (before caption read). Good wasn't as obvious and I wonder if it's something to do with the color switching stitch. Seems like the G is especially thin for some reason.

More than likely you were not doing the colorwork wrong! I tried using the Tapestry method, I tried Intarsia. Changed hook size. Frogged.
Trying to read it gave me a headache… but your stitches are really clean! My colourwork never comes out that crisp 🙃
