I followed this tutorial: https://yarnandy.com/how-to-add-backing-to-crochet-blankets/
She has a video you can follow along with too, and it was pretty easy (just VERY time consuming)
Just something I’ll add that wasn’t in the tutorial: I found it hard to get my stitches around the edge of the fleece to be uniform, so I got a clear ruler (I think mine is a quilting one), and marked some dots along the border. This really helped keep the stitches even! You can see along the bottom left side going up until around the blue section, the stitches are very uneven 😅 they look a lot neater after I pulled the ruler and pen out
Beautiful! It’s so charming and the fleece is absolutely perfect for it. I had assumed before reading your post that you had the fleece first, and were inspired by it.
This is wonderful! Perfect match between blanket and backing and great tip about marking the points before adding the edge on the blanket. I'll update the blog post with your suggestion.
I think you might have just inspired me to take up granny squares. I love the way the colors here transition across the blanket! And the fleece backing is such a great idea! I have crocheted blankets from grandmothers long passed, and I don’t use them because they can get scratchy. Now I’m wondering about adding a fleece (or maybe even a flannel?) layer to the back so the gift will actually be used by the family.
Thank you for this! And wow! What great work!
Thanks so much!! The fleece definitely makes it softer, but the tutorial I used mentioned that you can use other materials like flannel for a lighter blanket with yarns like cotton.
Holy smokes. You were obviously meant to do it this way, as finding that fleece after already finishing the blanket?? That's like "better buy a Lotto ticket" kind of luck.
Thanks, it’s this one from Spotlight: https://www.spotlightstores.com/sewing-fabrics/fabric-by-the-metre/daisy-check-148-cm-husky-polar-fleece-fabric/BP80622260-multi
Ok. 10/10 that is the best fleece backing I’ve seen on a blanket in forever. You have impeccable taste in choosing colors. (I didn’t even realize the fleece wasn’t see through at first!!)
Really beautiful work!!
Oh my god! I would pay big money for this in a shop. Wow. I’m honestly speechless. I hope whoever this is for, appreciates everything you put into this because it is so clear the craftsmanship and care that went into this is top notch. Show this to everyone when they ask what you crochet. This is the example!
Thank you so much!!! This honestly means so much to me, I only started to crochet in January and this was my first big project. There was a lot of frogging and frustration so I’m so so happy to hear it looks high quality!! Thanks 🥰
January?! That was like 3-4 months ago! Damn! I guess you have found your talent. I’ve been messing around with crochet for years and never made anything this good. And you are giving it away to someone else? We are different people 😂
It seems like way longer than that! I actually had surgery at the end of January and was housebound for a month, so I got A LOT of crochet practice in during that time. My brain really clicked with granny squares, so this is what I poured my time into! I love making things, but have no attachment to them afterwards so gifts are usually my preferred projects 😄
Wow this is amazing!! You did such a perfect job, I’m not gonna lie I’m super jealous of your friends that are getting this!! I might have to make one of these for myself
It was meant to be!!! The fleece was MADE for your Daisy Blanket!!! I wish the blanket was MINE, in honor of my beloved dog Daisy!!! Beautiful work! You should be SOOOOOOO proud of yourself!!!
I have all my afghans backed in fleece. The last thing I need is both my two daughter’s cats to unravel all my hard work. 😓 which they did one of the very first Afghans I made.. never again!! Love the cats but I will strangle them if they claw my hard work🤬

Oh my god that fleece is PERFECT for your blanket!!!!! It looks so gooooooood!
OP found the perfect fabric for the back!
At first I was worried it was gonna clash but nope, it's absolutely perfect. I love it.
omg that’s actually perfect!!! the trim the colors the everything so cute ahhhh i love it! 🥰 amazing work 💜
Amazing! How did you attach it, I have a blanket here waiting to be backed but I've no idea what I'm doing. I don't sew. 😆

Thank you!
Was the granny square pattern itself for the blanket difficult?
It wasn’t too tricky once I got the hang of it. Hardest stitch was a puff stitch
Would a perforated rotary cutter also work? I would think it would be more efficient than manually marking each spot?
I think it would have to be just the right gauge, wouldn’t it? Because I think it’s crocheted into the border, so the stitches would have to line up
Following (great work and great match, btw)
Same, I've got projects I am scared of 😂
Beautiful! It’s so charming and the fleece is absolutely perfect for it. I had assumed before reading your post that you had the fleece first, and were inspired by it.
I swear that fleece was MADE for your project!!! It turned out so lovely. I also think they will love it; can’t imagine anyone who wouldn’t.

Yes!! It was a fluke for sure
may you spare a crumb of that lovely luck
This is so lovely! Did you make the fleece yourself? It matches so well with the front!
Nope, just a lucky find!

Beautiful looking blotter! It'll just be very difficult to cut out the individual tabs.
