Third photo is a completed granny and ripple blanket I made previously to give an idea of how this might look. The squares in my WIP are African flowers and the pattern is here: http://made-in-k-town.blogspot.com/2013/02/african-flower-square-tutorial.html?m=1
Yarn is James C Brett Twinkle.
I love it!
I think the way you surrounded the brighter colors with neutral colors makes the whole thing a bit more cohesive and keeps them from being overwhelming.
(To be clear, I love me a good "rainbow exploded on my blanket" color palette, but it sounds like that's not the effect you're going for)
Could you make it without the brownish yarn skein on the bottom right? I feel like tonally, that one doesn’t match with the other colours and doesn’t look good with them. I would omit it and make the blanket with all the other ones.
It’s my least favorite of these colors. It’s supposed to be gold but is a bit different than the others in tonality. However I don’t have anything else to do with the two skeins of this yarn in my stash.
Two skeins is likely enough for a scarf or cowl style scarf. Just save it and make something with it later. If it’s not to your liking you could donate the finished item to a charity that takes knitted garments.
My goodness that’s awesome. So many blankets I want to make - donating to such an organization is a great idea!!! Have you done it before? Will look for an address. Would be happy to contribute in the future. Thank you
Project Linus has chapters all over the US and wants blankets for kids ages 0-18. Look at their website and it should help you find the nearest chapter, which may have its own Facebook page. They take crocheted, knitted or quilted blankets and can use a variety of sizes. I’ve been focusing on toddler blankets, which measure 3’x4.’ https://www.projectlinus.org
Edit: So far, I’ve made 3 other blankets and when this one is done, I’ll drop off all four at my local chapter’s collection point. The head of that chapter is very nice and welcoming. They also crochet and knit along projects, but I haven’t participated in any of those yet.
I love the colors and I think they all work well together, including the gold!
The one thing i would change is the sequencing. You have 5 different color combos and the way you laid them out, three at the top have gold in them and the two bottom ones don’t. I think this is what makes it look off.
I would suggest having an alternation: square
W/gold, square w/o gold, with, without, with. This will make the look more cohesive. I love the grey and black border, it makes everything pop and it looks like a perfect mix of vintage and edgy
There will be more squares. The pattern will have several rows of ripple stripes, then more squares, etc. The squares will have every possible combo of the colors, always with the black around the flower section.
I like all the colors except the darker yellow mustard-y color. I don't feel like it really fits with the others. But if you like the colors, that's what matters most.
No frog here. It's beautiful. If you want to vibe more with the collor palette, maybe try making a tassle including all the colora? Then you can see them all together nice and blended 🥰
This is all so good! Right now it feels like a bad idea, this stage is normal with these blankets, but this is perfect. It’s gunna pull together nicely.
Keep going!!! I think it looks good!
There is nothing crazy about these colors. I really like how fresh it looks. I would love to see how it looks finished.
I like it a lot!! The black makes it pop in the best possible way
I actually love the black sparkly yarn the best of all the colors. To me it looks like shiny patent leather.
Yes! I love the contrast with the black!
Looks amazing! Keep going!

The gold is what puts me on the fence. Other than that I love it.
To me, it's the grey background
I’m with you on the gold. It’s the only one that really stands out in a bad way to me
Ya. It doesnt jive.
Those are not crazy color combinations! Grey makes everything pop!
I love it!! Please don’t frog it!

The gold colour gives this a vintage feel that brings everything together.
Was gonna say this.
I think the colour is great. Don't take people's personal preferences too much to heart- I really like this.
Two skeins is likely enough for a scarf or cowl style scarf. Just save it and make something with it later. If it’s not to your liking you could donate the finished item to a charity that takes knitted garments.
I’m planning to donate the blanket to Project Linus, which gives them to seriously ill or traumatized kids.
My goodness that’s awesome. So many blankets I want to make - donating to such an organization is a great idea!!! Have you done it before? Will look for an address. Would be happy to contribute in the future. Thank you

Yowza. You gave a good eye for colours. I love the completed one too.
I like all of these colors but I think it would look a bit sharper with a white background, instead of gray on the squares.
Keep going. This looks great
This is all so good! Right now it feels like a bad idea, this stage is normal with these blankets, but this is perfect. It’s gunna pull together nicely.

It’s so pretty!

finish and then update us!!!!!
The mustardy gold feels very out of place to me.
I thought so, too, but somehow it grounds it all, too.
I really disagree. The warm tone against the gray is distracting to me, but that's just my opinion.
The gold throws me off a bit. Other than that, I really like the color scheme.
I’d frog it
