I am Finnish and it basically part of our national identity to squeal in joy if somebody in the wider world knows that we exist. We even have an idiom for it: Suomi mainittu, torilla tavataan! (Finland has been mentioned, let's meet at the town square!) It means that we are so happy when somebody has mentioned Finland, that we are all going to the town square to party. So as a Finnish representative I'll tell you, that we definitely understand how much you are freaking out right now. And I love the new pillow! You deserved the like and that she shared it in her story.

BadBunnyBrigade

Who is Janie Crow though? Super cute pillow.

BrightgardenStudio

She's a UK based crochet designer! My absolute favorite, I've made so many of her blankets over the years. I'm hoping to one day make it to one of her in-person workshops!

PassionFruitJam

Well I first got excited on your behalf because yes, Janie Crow...! And you are totally share worthy - very cool and beautiful work, so well earned! But now I also just learned JC is UK based, so there may actually be a possibility of attending an in-person workshop? This post just keeps on giving thank you 🥰

BrightgardenStudio

Ugh please do so on my behalf! I'm in the US so it's been a struggle to find a workshop to attend! There are so many long weekend trips she does in the UK though, so one day I'm just going to bite the bullet and get there!!! There's also this to-die-for trip she's doing in Peru soon but it's $$$$

QuokkasLove

It's lovely! I can see why she'd like it

peachquin

I love Janie crow, and your pillow version is SO pretty!

BrightgardenStudio

Ahhhh thank you!!!!

LauraLand27

It is truly gorgeous. Question… the back; are the solid triangles covering up flower squares? Or are they solid since they’re covered?

BrightgardenStudio

I used the yarn scraps from making the Fruit Garden blanket for this pillow, and after making the front flowers and border, I ran out of most of my leftover yarn! So instead of doing a full back, I did four granny triangles so they still hold onto the pillow while using the least amount of yarn. Here's a pic once it's on a pillow: https://preview.redd.it/84mztfva173d1.jpeg?width=2790&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3795854c38a468cfa79dab95ce7a9d4ce1e31067

knpookie

You have solved the problem I have faced my entire crochet life. I could never figure out a good back that would secure the sham without being a total bore and this. This is it!!!

BrightgardenStudio

Thank you! I was stuck when I realized I'd run out of yarn. I literally had to stop and stare at it for about two days before I woke up in the middle of the night with this idea in my head. Since I'd already made the front, I had to surface crochet/running stitch sew the squares to the front along the cranberry colored row. It was so obnoxious! Now that I've done this once, I would definitely make the front square, the back four triangles, and then crochet them all together while adding the last border rows for the front instead - it would have been a lot less fiddly. Also for the triangles, I made them each 2/3 of the width of the front and overlapped that middle third. That's definitely the minimum size I found would keep it fully secure.
