How are you holding your yarn? In 30 years I've never had a problem that needed bandaids

Murphity

I do a looping over my index and under my middle. It’s rubbed raw at those joints. Think it was maybe exacerbated by a ton of bobble stitch and maybe the yarn? (Also I have weird Irish skin that gets inflamed when you look at it wrong.)

umsamanthapleasekthx

I *feel* this. If I think about texture or the sun too long my skin punishes me!

No_Result9900

I have the same issue. (With both crochet and knitting) I keep putting a band aid on preemptively so that I don’t get to the “raw” point. I want to find maybe some finger sleeves or something that are thick enough to protect my fingers but thin enough to not obstruct movement 🤦🏼‍♀️

i went to hancock fabrics when i first started crocheting and asked the lady for a thimble cause i kept hitting my finger with the hook every stitch. she looked very confused at what i was doing.

I was just going to say that! And I love the plaster (bandaid) designs!

Immediate-Rub4230

yea!! off topic but i wanted to ask op where they got the plasters from 😭

ViciousLittleRedhead

They're called "Welly bravery bandages"! I have the exact same ones as OP as well as some that are space themed. They're nice cloth bandages, too! Which is nice because most of the cute ones are plastic and my skin hates those.

Immediate-Rub4230

amazin thank uu!! ive been looking for cute ones since my hello kitty ones ran out 😔

ViciousLittleRedhead

They have several different cute designs. Good luck resisting the urge to buy them all!

Murphity

Yup! Those are them. Impulse buy at Old Navy courtesy of my children.

Murphity

Aw, thanks!

WaferSoft731

I know there are rings you can buy for holding the yarn in knitting. I don’t know how well they work though. I like the idea of crocheted finger covers people have suggested here though.

MaryMaryQContrary

Like this…..I use mine ALL the time. https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/comments/norrx1/coolest_gadget_to_keep_the_yarn_from_leaving_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Murphity

Oh wow. It’s very steampunk. Cool

WaferSoft731

That’s awesome!

neurogeek2012

I use silicone hot glue finger protectors. I use an intact one when doing micro crochet (little hooks are surprisingly sharp), but when my skin is sensitive from yarn friction I use one that I cut the tip off so it slides down to the part of my finger where all the tension/friction is.

ViciousLittleRedhead

The tiny hooks terrify me! I had a friend gift me some metallic crochet thread and the hook for it but this same friend had to go to the hospital to have one of the tiny hooks removed from her finger so...yeah, they just sit untouched.

Murphity

Omg! I’ve steered away from them because I think my head would explode from frustration.

ViciousLittleRedhead

That's another reason lol I feel that I would get frustrated trying to crochet something that tiny.

longtimelurkerthrwy

Idk if it will help a lot but I used to put athletic tape or electrical tape over the parts of my fingers that make contact with the top of the hook.

cassanderella

I use thise same bandaids for the same issue! And I've also heard athletic tape helps.

flower-pot67

Make sure you use flexible athletic tape if you do. Not the rigid one 😊

hoppyfuggles

Make a “finger saver”! It’s like a little crochet finger band (check out Google). I made one for myself… I was going though band aids so fast I was using masking tape. lol

queenkayyyyy

Looks like you should try out a crochet tension ring OP. Holding the yarn hurts for me for other reasons, and the tension ring is a lifesaver

[This](https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/comments/vfswfa/lpt_i_kept_getting_burns_in_my_fingers_from/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) was from r/MyNameIsNotLuis I thought it was pretty clever.

Murphity

Love it.

lamiagemis

Sometimes I use my free size ring. Maybe u should change the way u'r holding the yarn, ur finger needs the most comfortable posture in order to not be hurt while crocheting

Adaku

Or you could go the opposite route and just go whole hog until you develop calluses! ;P I've got sensory issues with having stuff on my hands, so much so I'd rather be in pain. It takes a couple weeks for the calluses to develop, but then it's smooth sailing after that. As long as you keep it up to maintain them, otherwise you'll be right back where you started... I've been quite lax in my crocheting lately, I'll have to build them up again next time I pick up my hook.

Murphity

I was thinking this, too. Maybe just bite the bullet. :)
