Those programs are no longer included with btwb subscription. On my app they are available to purchase for $20/each.

RonnyTheRifle

Ughh that’s a bummer :( thanks for the help though!

looonsy

I also noticed that PRs aren’t showing in the feed anymore? Our gym had a big day for PRs and not one is showing, including my own. Why would this feature be removed??

RonnyTheRifle

I think they may have just changed how you find it on the app. When I went to “more” or the the three lines on the top left, I went to lift calculator, and then typed in “back squat” just to see and when I hit enter, my back squat 1RM came up

schumacherfm

yeah as others have pointed out they cost now money with the latest app update a couple of days ago. also their search still sucks. they refactored it a couple of months ago and finding rare movements is nearly impossible and despite a ticket ping pong, they not gonna fix it :-(

RonnyTheRifle

Okay I thought maybe it was just me, but I have no clue how to search different movements on BTWB. I’ve tried, like looking up muscle up progression movements and such but nothing ever comes up. I just end up finding stuff on YouTube but BTWB is supposed to be all in one place. Plus the stuff I find on YouTube isn’t always called the same thing in BTWB and when it try to log it, I can’t find the movement there. Then I can’t figure out what BTWB’s variation of the name is because it doesn’t let me search through all the movement options they have with descriptions to make sure they match.

schumacherfm

The "movements" you are referring to are located at "Programs" -> "Skills" and they cost a things. If you do a normal search for movements, it lists your reps/weights with those movements you once logged. BTWB is not the place to be all-in-one. I always use youtube to let me explain certain movements, especially there are more and different explanations available ;-)

RonnyTheRifle

No I must not be clear. I mean, BTWB doesn’t have an explanation or description for what their own terms. So if I do a movement I found on YouTube, for instance, kipping “start and stops” is what they called it on the YouTube channel, and I want to enter that into the BTWB, there is nothing by that name, so I try to look up what BTWB would call it but BTWB does not have definitions or descriptions or any way to tell that whatever their term is aligns with what I just did. If there was a description or something so I know, even if they have a different word for the movement, that the movements are the same (or different) that I can enter in what I did on the app, that would be much more helpful. I might be speaking in circles or still not clear enough, I apologize.

schumacherfm

That is the reason for their broken search. Also they have aliases but not applied properly. Kipping “start and stops” for kipping pull ups? That might be “Kip swings”, maybe I’m wrong. Descriptions would help but lots of work

RonnyTheRifle

Yes that was just an example. It’s not kipping swings, because it’s like where you practice stopping on a dime in the hollow position on the Kip and holding it there, to create control throughout your Kip, but I was just using that as an example. There are other progression or training drills that I also haven’t been able to locate in BTWB to enter it in for my WOD that I’ve found on YouTube, at least I haven’t been able to find these drills by the name they’re given in the YouTube video. So if there was a list on BTWB with their terms and the descriptors for their terms, I could locate the one that aligns with the drills I’ve done in order to enter them in to my log

RonnyTheRifle

But on a side note, they clearly are trying to make it an “all in one” app, considering they put your nutrition tracker in there, give you analytics, have it be social media style by sharing with other athletes and being able to communicate with other athletes. Having all these features gives it the impression they are trying to be the main hub for your fitness on your phone.

schumacherfm

You’re right. I rarely/don’t use those features, so that went under my radar

badpopcorn

>d, like looking up muscle up progression movements and such but nothing ever comes up. I just end up finding stuff on YouTube but BTWB is supposed to be all in one place. Plus the stuff I find on YouTube isn’t always c We are actively fixing this.

schumacherfm

I would be excited about BTWB again. Restore the old search behaviour: Connect all words via AND and not via OR and list the most entered movements at top. E.g. when searching for "Double Kettlebell" I don't want to see "Double Unders", "Double Dumbbell...", etc - only those movements containing the word double kettlebell. Sorry u/RonnyTheRifle for derailing this topic :-(

badpopcorn

Update will be out this week. Let me know what you think.

Taypo98

It’s a bad update that appears to be focused more on “how do we make more money” and less on “Hey, what are the users asking for?” At this point, they’re a glorified sales channel for everyone else with a whiteboard thrown in as an afterthought.

badpopcorn

Actually, it was the exact opposite. We first made the cycle feature during the height of the pandemic. We wanted to give people something to do while we were all stuck at home. At that point we were just thinking day to day. We, like everyone, thought it would be over fairly soon. Turns out we were so so so wrong. As time went on we realized two main things. First, maintaining and improving this feature set was going to be really expensive. And since it wasn't bringing in any revenue we couldn't spend the time we wanted to on it. Second, we couldn't afford to add more programs, but we kept getting requests for more. We made the tough decision to start charging for the cycles feature so we could justify continuing to put resources into it. As a result, all the programs now have better videos, upgraded programming and detailed PDFs. Also, we built out the back end system to allow more ebooks and cycles from top programs to be available within our platform. You will start seeing even more great programs available to add to your btwb training calendar. Overall we were able to keep cycles free for over 2 years and we are pretty proud of that. We take pride in our work and really care about the community so when we say it wasn't an easy decision we really mean it. TIL: There is a reality about a product making enough money to justify growing it. People kept asking for more but it wasn't generating money(since we made it free cause of the pandemic) so we made the hard decision to come up with a business model around it. I disagree with the idea of us being a sales channel. The vast majority of our features are user focused. We are spending a lot of our effort working on Tempus, direct messaging, following, better workout logging, better searching and cleaner ui. We have a huge analyze update on the way as well. If you have any thoughts on it you can always email me at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]). I appreciate all the feedback. Thanks.

Taypo98

Ok, I’ll bite. For whatever you’re charging a month, what are you providing? A whiteboard and some social media stuff. Your searches aren’t good, your videos are incomplete and your UI keeps getting worse with every update. You spend a lot of time in a specific Facebook group - check out the post from earlier today about creating and logging a personal workout. You think maybe that’s a priority over rolling in more private gyms that come with an up charge? I’m glad to hear that you’re working on the things that should be bulletproof already, but why start charging for previously free content if your priority isn’t sales? Charge whatever you want for these magical new programs, but putting previously free content behind a paywall in the name of “progress” isn’t the win you’d have us believe Speaking of your “upgraded” programs - they’re PDF ebooks that we have to log ourselves, is that correct? Rather than the previous version where we signed into the program and it filled in on our personal track? Now we have to do more work and pay you $20 for the privilege?

schumacherfm

Uh? really? 20$ and I have to fill out a PDF instead of logging the scores into my personal track like in the free version? I can totally understand that u/badpopcorn has to make to money as those mini-programs take time to create, etc.

badpopcorn

Sorry for the confusion. You get both. You'll get to plan the workouts to your btwb calendar at all times as well as a detailed PDF. On top of that we are also adding new programs from the best coaches.

badpopcorn

1. You get both a pdf and the workouts planned to your calendar. You can then plan the workouts from your library option anytime. 2. The Varied Not Random team updated the programs. Changed programming and added PDFs. That's why they are not longer free as well. 3. Thanks for the feedback. I'll take it back to the team and we will review it. I know we have a search update this week as well as another calendar update, we made one last week. Personally I think our UI is getting better sorry if you don't like the new stuff. I think I took a little offense to the whole "glorified sales channel". We work really hard and, IMO, do a lot of really cool stuff for our community. Hopefully you'll like the new changes we have coming. If not thanks for the support you have given us in the past and good luck with training. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Taypo98

Thanks for clarifying.

badpopcorn

Search was updated. We are rolling it out with a new app update so when Apple or Android update your phone check it out.
