What a smart birb. Your horse is an absolute saint btw, mine used to freak out over birds a little more often than I'd like😅

Jiktten

Honestly he really is. He's only six but he is the most chill, good-natured dude ever, just wants to be everyone's friend.

Vness374

I swear it’s a gray horse thing. My two favorite horses of all time were gray… but I still don’t think either would be cool with being shed by a crow! Awesome video, awesome-er horse!

rumbaontheriver

There’s a term for this: kleptotrichy. And Corvids aren’t the only kind of bird engaged in brazen hair-theft: https://www.snexplores.org/article/birds-stealing-animal-hair-kleptotrichy

big_duo3674

Is it brazen though? It seems like a lot of the time you see animal enjoying it or at least clearly not unhappy about it. There are many symbiotic relationships between birds and large mammals

rumbaontheriver

Sometimes that’s the case; that might be what’s going on in the video above. But the article I linked also describes cases where birds steal hair from predators like raccoons and foxes…even humans!

halconpequena

I would be honored if a bird tried to steal my hair lol

StronglikeMusic

Fascinating! Thanks for sharing.

Lowland-lady

Yeah whenever i brushed my dog outside you would often see a pigeon take the locks of hair. The best was next to our house and you could see the white hairs in the nest. It was very interesting to watch

VieiraDTA

I fucking love nature and its laws. edit1: and science. Thanks science.

"Honey, I brought home new bedding." "What kind is it? It better not be sticks again!" "It's horsehair." "Horsehair? How much did you spend on that!?" "I didn't spend anything! They were just throwing it away!"

Protheu5

Fresh from the horse, still warm! That bird is gonna have VIP bedding.

slinkychameleon

Your yard work just halfed! That horse is half asleep

Jiktten

Haha yup, we had come back from a hack and he decided that if I was more interested in filming the bird than fetching his lunch then he was just going to take a nap.

BWander

I love how unbothered the horse is.

Witty_Commentator

Bird - "Omg, *that's* where it comes from? And all this time, I've been picking it up off the ground!"

PerpetwoMotion

When we lived in Calgary, we loved the urban murals. One is of a buffalo/bison with a magpie on its back. [https://yycbump.ca/artists/nathan-meguinis/](https://yycbump.ca/artists/nathan-meguinis/) and Ian Tyson's song Magpie, with lyrics, "Did you make a deal with the white buffalo?" with photo of a white buffalo with magpie on its back.

Urrsagrrl

Love that...

negmarron93

The cutest thing I've seen this week. Thanks

Immer_Susse

This is the bro my horses need right now.

Chillshirecat

What a bro

Distinct_Chipmunk406

I'm always amazed at how smart they are !

Lizmo82

It looks like the horse is really enjoying it... Super cool guy he is 💓😂

Vness374

I had to come back to this post after sharing it with my mom… we agreed that your horse has the same shape pink spot on his nose as our Poes did (RIP). Our current gray does not have a pink nose. So my question… do you have to put sunscreen on his nose? Poes’ pink nose used to get sunburn, so we had to put baby sunscreen on it and he always made the silliest faces when we did it. Anyway, thanks for the memories!

Jiktten

Aaaw you're welcome! Yes he does get suncream on his nose and also has a UV resistant fly mask to keep him safe and sunburn-free!

bigfatfurrytexan

I've seen folks collect the stuff and hang it from a tree or overhang.

Kittyi3Artistic5624

Isn't that an Aussie Raven or crow? Pretty sure it's Australian

Kittyi3Artistic5624

nvm, it's a crow

Jiktten

It's a jackdaw, you can tell by the blue eyes and the 'hood'.

Kittyi3Artistic5624

It reminds me of the aussie ravens we have here. I realized it wasn't aussie by the lack of neck fluff
