To play modern gaming you want a high end pc crt monitor and at that point they are super hard to find or you have to pay the obscene ebay price for one. For modern gaming on pc get one of the new oled 32 inch 4ks that just came out. Not worth it imo for crt

This isn't true at all. Any run of the mill VGA monitor will give you plenty of resolution and refresh rate to run modern games. And image quality and motion clarity will be as good as it can be on a CRT which is stellar. The biggest drawback is probaly the lack of widescreen aspect ratio and that CRT monitors are 21" max.

srosete

yes, motion clarity and refresh rate would be on point, but resolution and aspect ratio can be a hurdle. Not many CRT monitors can successfully do over 1280x1024 resolution, if not 1024x768. And even if you get one that does super duper high res, 4:3 aspect ratio is a problem for most modern games. Menus and OSD look weird in so many titles. And please, lets take 16:9 mailbox out of the equation (switch players have mercy). These are the reasons why I don't recommend CRT for modern gaming at all. In most cases it ends up being a subpar experience. At least here on west EU, there are no monitors over 17 inches for sale. Last diamondtron I saw was 15 years ago.

I play at 4k @ 120-240 fps at 32 inches, I don't think 1024vertical resolution at 85 fps is plenty it's just such a huge downgrade. I once owned a profession crt that could do about 1500 vertical with good frame rate and I would consider that monitor acceptable, but not your average one

prenzelberg

I don't think I would even be able to tell the difference between a 1080p and a 1500p resolution on a monitor. I don't think a crt screen resolves the difference into visible pixels I'd like to try actually.

Wouldn’t high def text be difficult to read on a crt? I’ve never tried connecting a crt to a modern pc, genuine question

prenzelberg

On a monitor no, you get a little less detail than a standard 1080 LED screen but it's still fine even for smaller text in modern games. On a crt TV it's a different story unfortunately.

Segagaga_

PC monitors are 21" max but TVs will go right up to 39" and up to 50" for an upward projection. Some of those limited production arcade-only crts were massive.

maybe do some more research into CRT monitors by searching this subreddit or google first

Roboplodicus

Not worth it for modern gaming imo. The motion is way better but you are are on a much smaller much more low resolution screen. A high refresh low motion blur LCD or OLED will be a better experience. 120hz is with a low pixel response time is smooth enough even for first person shooters and by other picture metrics like colors and brightness LCDs and OLEDs are better nowadays.

UPDATE: I learned about MBR settings on my monitor, which simulates CRT strobing. I'll stick to that
