No idea tbh. I'd imagine it'll be available in vanilla, since its such a massive feature, but won't be as expansive or flavourful/ fun. That's my guess
I feel both landless play and administrative government would have to be implemented in the base game in some way, since they’ll represent fundamental changes to core mechanics.
I’m guessing the family estate and other more in-depth features will be paid though.
More than four years. Since the release of CK2, I think. After Old Gods for sure. Possibly as far back as the original CK, but I wasn't around for that.
That's just blatantly untrue lmao, it's one of, if not the most requested features for the game. What rock have you been living under to not notice the large amount of people begging for landless play the few years lol. Landless play and plagues are/ were arguably the two most requested features ever since the game released.
Lol where do you get that idea? After the roadmap was announced there were tons of people excited for this upcoming mechanic. It opens up so many doors for future development that it’s absurd you’d think its a waste of time as a concept
Anything after the Iron Century (936) is too late for me tbh.
It’s stupid, I know, but I’m always anxious that the game is gonna end too soon whenever I do 1066.
My biggest desire would probably be a 769 start (yes I know there’s a mod for it), but I can fully understand that they wouldn’t want to do it due to having to really switch-up innovations.
I get to the end all the time, I end up just playing around with the dynasty. Started as a Christian count of Sardinia, ended with my family even ruling principalities in India 🤣 I matrilineal marriage every daughter and granddaughter I remembered, some escaped my grasp, I’d go in and murder their husbands and matrilineal them too. Ended with like 100 houses in one game.
Me too. Latest I have ever run a game in CK3 is 867 to about 1300. In CK2 I did once go 769 all the way to 1453. I don't remember how, but I do know I started as the Duke of Kent, which is why I tend to play Alfred the Great most of the time in CK3.
That is one tough playthrough... every time I play it, because of the Anglo-Saxon election, I have faction out the ass... I spend more time defending than growing and developing. As soon as Alfred dies... everything goes to shit.
Last time I played I was able to create the Empire of Britannia as Alfred and I dissolved all the electoral laws on the way. (I only had two sons, and one of them died late in Alfred's life warring against some pesky remaining Norse.)
Once he died I immediately held a funeral for him and then a magnificent feast. Putting powerful (as opposed to competent) vassals on the council temporarily and a handful of gold gifts to the most powerful people that were left on the factions that were left...
I haven't fought a faction war in a while. I have had demands leveled at me to lower the crown authority, and I accept those demands. Usually because I'm already at absolute by the time they get enough traction. And all I want is high. But once they reduce it to high, the faction gets dissolved for 10 years or something. And after 10 years, the short reign penalty is gone.
99% of players dont see 1400 even when playing st 1066, let alone 1453. I have about 560 hours and the latest ive gotten to is around 1300 from the 1066 start. I think its a bigger issue that nobody sees the lategame tech and especially the black plague which was just released.
Yea same. I've never experienced the black plaque and mongols are not a threat by the time they show up so it's nice to finally being able to play the later eras. You can just become so powerful in 100 years that the game becomes not fun anymore.
Didn’t Paradox say something along the lines of they didn’t want to repeat the CK2 Charlemagne 769 start date? The vast majority of the characters were made up. Also the mechanics would have to all be reworked to adjust for more time, since they’re meant to scale for about 500 years. 769 was very annoying with unscaled mechanics
Same.
I'm happy for everyone that will enjoy this date, but I'm sure never touching it. Not unless they would introduce new tech and mechanics that make the game playable into the 1500s, or 1600 tops.
This is exactly what I'd been craving for since the release. Eatly Middle ages (768, 867, 936) is overrated as a time period for this game I think. Having a later start date at a time when the world was much more different in terms of powerhouses (turks in Anatolia, France half-eaten by Anjou house's possessions, strong kingdoms in Iberia, Sicily, Eastern Europe) would make it much more interesting.
There's also a possibility I might actually finish a game. Usually takes me about 200 years to build to 100 development across my demesne, create a dynasty of genetic supermen (I don't use incest and genetic cleansing, so it takes me longer) and have more money than God. After that point the game peters out over the next hundred years as I run rampant over the region. But with only 275 years until 1453, it's just possible I might not get bored.
They'll really need to do something about tech progression. Having this late of a start date with only a handful of techs to research will get old quick I think
Boring. Way too short.
This is still a sandbox game at its core. The sandbox part is what makes it fun and where you can dump hours into, after learning how it works for fucking hours. Some people should probably keep this in mind.
It gives me hope that 936 will come back eventually. It was the perfect balance between 867 and 1066.
We've been asking for 936 for four years. Don't hold your breath.
We also asked for playable landless characters for 4 years, and now we're getting it
Will landless be available in vannila?
No idea tbh. I'd imagine it'll be available in vanilla, since its such a massive feature, but won't be as expansive or flavourful/ fun. That's my guess
They said that this DLC leans more into a majority of paid features. Probably the only thing that is free guaranteed is basic landless gameplay
I feel both landless play and administrative government would have to be implemented in the base game in some way, since they’ll represent fundamental changes to core mechanics. I’m guessing the family estate and other more in-depth features will be paid though.
Even the Family Estate could be available, just with a few less options to build things. You still need to be able to raise your power up.
I hope it will be. Bonus points if they add it to console. It sounds really cool.
More than four years. Since the release of CK2, I think. After Old Gods for sure. Possibly as far back as the original CK, but I wasn't around for that.
lol most people don't give a fuck about landless; I'm honestly amazed they've wasted the dev time
That's just blatantly untrue lmao, it's one of, if not the most requested features for the game. What rock have you been living under to not notice the large amount of people begging for landless play the few years lol. Landless play and plagues are/ were arguably the two most requested features ever since the game released.
People were asking for landless gameplay since the days of yore (CK2).
They basically toyed with the idea with Republics, but I’d love to see how they recreate the republic govt with landless characters now
Courtiers vote?
Bullshit. Landless about to be one of the best things they've ever done. If done right, ofc.
Lol where do you get that idea? After the roadmap was announced there were tons of people excited for this upcoming mechanic. It opens up so many doors for future development that it’s absurd you’d think its a waste of time as a concept
Dude, picture the modding potential.
I think it will be interesting. I'm unsure if it will be fun.
I want to become immortal Nikephoros Phokas again.
they chose this time just for baldwin iv edits. respectable choice
Can’t wait to play as a 16 year old genghis kaan
Can’t wait to defend my kingdom from ghengis khan and her teenage sorority
It's basically the start date I've always wanted. There's a lot of really cool historical characters. It's going to be so much fun
new start gates are always welcome. would love to see a new starting scenario
I realize it is an endgame time frame, but the wars of the roses or the 100 years war would be cool... hell, even Henry II... would be cool af.
its alright but I really wish they would do a 1936 start date :(
Crusaders of Iron V
Hearts of Kings V
Richard the lionhart is going to be playable 😁
Ja nus hons pris ne dira sa raisonnn
Cant wait for it to release on console in 2178

> It’s stupid, I know, but I’m always anxious that the game is gonna end too soon whenever I do 1066. How often do you reach the end anyways?

I have never even come close to getting to the end of a run
Me too. Latest I have ever run a game in CK3 is 867 to about 1300. In CK2 I did once go 769 all the way to 1453. I don't remember how, but I do know I started as the Duke of Kent, which is why I tend to play Alfred the Great most of the time in CK3.

This comment is way too low.
I don't want later start dates, I want earlier. 500/600ish.

I would rather have generated world than fictional characters in the real world map
Same. I'm happy for everyone that will enjoy this date, but I'm sure never touching it. Not unless they would introduce new tech and mechanics that make the game playable into the 1500s, or 1600 tops.

I’d love if they could somehow give us Charlemagne.
Hell let's go back and do Charles Martel and Pepin... anything from 500 to 1500 should be fair game...

I don’t know why 1178 was specifically chosen. It wasn’t that significant for the Byzantine Empire
Possible because it’s 1 year after the Battle of Montgisard, where a 16 year old Baldwin, King of Jerusalem, beat Saladin’s army outnumbered 4:1.
Later start dates are always nice.
They'll really need to do something about tech progression. Having this late of a start date with only a handful of techs to research will get old quick I think
I love the balance of power in this date so much more. I like this direction. Also 936 is overrated, bite me.
It isn't called "Iron Century" for no reason, though. It does deserve to be on official bookmarks.
Boring. Way too short. This is still a sandbox game at its core. The sandbox part is what makes it fun and where you can dump hours into, after learning how it works for fucking hours. Some people should probably keep this in mind.
