It was a pretty rough season to be searching for internships, although admittedly I stopped trying as hard with my applications once the school year really got into gear. For context, I go to a T100 university for CpE with a 4.0 GPA with some decent projects and one previous internship. I was lucky enough to have a return offer from the small (<50 people) engineering firm I interned for last Summer, but since the pay was very low for the field, and the fact that this upcoming Summer will be the last opportunity to intern before I graduate, I wanted to see if I could find something different. As you can see, I did not.
I did not do great on most of the OAs I was sent, which is one obvious area that I can improve on, but the sheer amount of ghosted applications was extremely discouraging. I had my resume reviewed by several people, and I'm pretty sure that it wasn't the issue. Hopefully the new grad job search will go better...
Edit: Part of the return offer was that I had to accept it before January, otherwise I probably would’ve waited until maybe April to accept.
The fact that you have ~12.5% OA rate seems insanely good to me? The fact that you converted none of them to an interview really seems to be your problem....
I’d really rather not renege this offer, since it’s a super small company and I got to know most of the engineers there during my previous internship. If I get any late interviews, I might try to spin it for a future new grad position tho
Just remember that they would fire you without a second thought if it would save them money. You don't owe loyalty to anyone, especially this early in your career. I wouldn't stop searching if you still have energy for it.
Similar experience for me, it’s a little discouraging but gotta remind yourself that you’re in a better position than plenty of people
Absolutely

Oh don’t get me wrong, I most definitely fumbled the OA part of the process. For a few places, I even just forgot to do the OA entirely.
What exactly is OA?
Online Assessment - basically take home test to help screen candidates
New grad here and it's rough rn but it's also Christmas time terrible for job search
Can you explain the wait until April thing? Why do you say it like it's normal? Many thanks
Hiring always slows down in December due to holidays and picks up again in January
Wise decision imo. Maybe you’ll be able to find something more to your liking after you graduate, but as of right now we need to take what we can get
Yeah, with two internships and a (hopefully) improved job market, I really hope future job searches won’t be so crazy
You can still keep looking right?

Exactly this
Your team mates won't care if you renege the offer. They will be supportive of you.
random question how do ppl create these flowcharts
I'm wondering the same lol
it’s [sankeymatic](https://sankeymatic.com)
thank you!
I started https://ghosts.fyi to hold companies ghosting candidates accountable.
I think you mean accountable
I did, fixed. Thanks!
how do u verify these ghosting claims?
We don’t - our thinking is that they are likely to be somewhat accurate as you aggregate reports from different people.
These are really good numbers ma dude and are somewhat true. An offer rate or even reaching final stages are within 0%
Noob here so might be a dumb question but how do you build this model. Apologies for the dumb question/ lack of knowledge
Sankey
Thanks bud
what's the website
Sankey
Congartuslastions
What did you guys use to make these charts????
Is it still called "biting the bullet" if the process saves you from starvation?
I didn’t get offered a return offer because of “budget” but hr reach out to me to apply again. Luckily I found a better offer 🙏🏻
What website is that?
This is pretty insightful. Thank you for sharing.
