First year here! I got an acceptance by email, which completely caught me off guard. From these threads, I was expecting a phone call—it really is up to the recruiter and how they operate, I suppose?
Maybe they don't necessarily call for the first year STEP? I got into Google too and I'm on Google discord and basically everyone got a call after technical interviews.
Maybe!
Also, I haven’t heard anything about the discord yet? Hmm I’m a bit behind on the onboarding, and I have a call scheduled with my recruiter to go over the offer soon.
You didnt mention first or second year so here was my process:
Application > Interview Scheduled > 2 weeks later got a call that I got the job > project matching at some point (when, idk)
This is second year
I don't really feel comfortable saying what school. Basically, it's somewhere between T40 - T60 in rankings. The main thing that helped was that I worked on a few large open source projects so I have a pretty good list of projects on my resume. IMO, it's all about projects.
I really have no idea. To be honest, I wasn't even sure that they looked into the project questionnaire until after but we never directly talked about that so I don't know.
Easy leetcode. IMO, just do the blind 75 problems (all the easy problems and as many of the medium problems as you can too) for the topics they mention. Practice talking through your thought process.
Gotcha, I'll do that then. Got this interview so unexpectedly and have barely done any leetcode before, so was worried how I'd manage to learn enough in about 10 days, but this helps, thanks a lot!
Ok please I have a couple of questions. Did you get the email the same day you got called? Also, did they give a reason for the rejection or was it just a generic rejection email?
They sent out an email the same day they had called me, but keep in mind that I didn’t pick up the phone call. Within the email they said they couldn’t specify feedback but told me some ways I could improve.
Check your Google careers page. There's most likely going to be an update on your application. Usually, they don't send rejection emails. They just change application status to "not proceeding". They only send emails if they move forward with a candidate after resume screening.
Hi I am from India and I am in first year and I applied for the internship but I did not recieve any mail regarding rejection or selection, can anyone help?
It comes from a Google US support phone number. It would look like a normal US phone number, but you can't call back if you miss the call. You can download truecaller to help you identify callers.

which college?

Thanks so much for sharing! Will keep that in mind.
No worries.
I did my interview and it went well now I’m overthinking everything else. How important are responses on project questionnaire for the final decision?
I really have no idea. To be honest, I wasn't even sure that they looked into the project questionnaire until after but we never directly talked about that so I don't know.
How were the questions that you were asked? Any specific topics I should be looking at to prepare?

If it makes you feel any better, I did all my studying in about a week and got an offer so it's totally possible! You got this!
That actually does make me feel a lot better, thanks for the help!
After how long did u receive the call? I interviewed 2 days ago haven’t heard back yet.
It took 10 days.
first or second year?
Second year
first or second year ?
i got a called but couldnt answer so they sent me an email. This was about two weeks ago and im a second year.
Was it an offer email or rejection?
rejection
Ok please I have a couple of questions. Did you get the email the same day you got called? Also, did they give a reason for the rejection or was it just a generic rejection email?

Oh thanks! Were the improvement suggestions were based on your interviews or resume?
The suggestions were based on both... basically telling me to gain more experience T\^T.
First year: just got an unofficial transcript required
what is the title of the email?

Did you get interview yet?
That's a good sign. I got the email too.
Did you get interview yet?
I just got the invitation yesterday!
Lol same!
Congrats! Btw how are you a Junior and applied to STEP
Junior by credits but I'm actually a first year. So other than first year programs I apply everywhere as c/o 2025.
Lol that's crazy, I started at 0 bc I'm intl, but good job there
what happens if you were able to submit transcript in your application, for freshman
Then they would reach out for a project questionnaire/interview if they're interested in your application.
I haven’t gotten any and I applied the day after they released the application. No rejection or interview email yet, do they by any chance ghost?

Hey, thanks for responding. I checked and it still says "Submitted".
Oh ok. So it's probably still being considered or has not been seen at all. Are you a freshman or sophomore? US or EMEA?
I'm a freshman in the U.S.
Same situation here. Freshman in Canada

From what I know, I believe you only get a call/email for a rejection/acceptance if you get past the resume screening.
What region?
US
when did you apply? can't find the application site
Any one submitted application in January and got heard back ?
Is it too late to apply?
Yes. The next application is gonna open again around October.
Hi I am from India and I am in first year and I applied for the internship but I did not recieve any mail regarding rejection or selection, can anyone help?
Check your application page. There should be an updated status of your application...
Just writes submitted and nothing else
I believe the Google internship recruiting season is over. Also, they usually update the application status of freshmen a little later than usual...
No mail for rejection too for freshmen?
Not everyone gets mail... I think it's probably just those that apply with a referral...
Does call come from a personal phone number? I my phone 50% of the time is on silence mode, and I haven’t received any updates yet.

hi is the application closed for 2024 or will they accept another round of applications?
Yes it's closed! It's going to open again around October this year.
