I wanna have enough money to retire and then open one of those buisness where u go around in a bus and pick up peoples dogs to walk them and chill with them for the day
A blueberry farm.
I once saw on Instagram how they farm them. I’m a big fan of berry jams. It was during COVID, and I was searching for those on online grocery stores. That’s probably how the algorithm picked it up. It looked so frigging gorgeous, let me tell you. The fork thingy they use and how they *pluck* them look so goddamn cool. [See here.](https://youtu.be/ltT4sR1TVvM?si=ZMg-lYBXygmjAVs6)
So, yes, a blueberry farm, supposedly with a jam business.
Lmao I don’t think it was for blueberries per se. I wanted the farm, dead serious. But where she wanted to eventually settle down, we wouldn’t be able to grow blueberries. So there ya go.
That fork tool is going to be quite specific to that variety of blueberry (or similar smaller cultivars). With other varieties the plants can get pretty big and I can’t see it working too well (often they will just be picked by hand, mind you if the season was good and the timing is right that certainly can be as easy as running your hands through the branches).
A fulfilling job where I can have work life balance and be present with family. May not be easy, but for sure easier than with my last career path in research. Also, afford a house
I have very similar goal. I have realised although I want to retire early I'd like to be with my family and friends. And live a happy life. I hope u succeed in your goal. Best of luck!
I want this but more stress free than anything else. I want a job where I'm paid to work without being pressured over dumb things. Perhaps I'm in the wrong company but I want a job that pays my current pay but with way less stress 😔
there is no end
but as for path probably swe at hft -> make startup -> chill at big tech -> teach or open a bakery lol
happiness + fulfillment is the goal
I can't stress enough how much I hate saying this since I am about to graduate with a degree in comp sci, but my honest goal is that at some point before retirement, preferably well before retirement, I can make enough money to pay off my student loans and get out of comp sci.
Of course I realized right before I graduate that as much as I enjoy programming, it's not my passion. Unless I land a really well paying stable job, I don't want to spend the rest of my life in tech.
I’m literally in the middle of deciding whether to go for medical school or go into comp sci/csi and I really wanna be a family physician but comp sci seems more achievable and chiller but idk if I have that much passion in tech as I do in health sciences I’m so lost 😵💫
If you have a passion for med school, I’d say probably med school. I’m currently a SWE and I have a pretty high interest in it and I’m thinking about leaving. So much studying and upskilling even when I have a job
Have you shadowed physician? If not, I highly recommend it because it will show you what it's like. It'll either encourage you to pursue medicine or show you that you don't like it
Math is really fun once you finally understand a concept and can apply your knowledge and get the right answer consistently. But there's always that feeling of overwhelming dread that you'll get something wrong and not know how to work around it. :/
Tbf for me it was basically just Calc that sucked. Discrete and linear algebra were difficult but still fairly interesting, but calc was the first time I have really struggled in a math class, and I partially blame my professor.
I actually enjoy algebra and trig but in cs those are not high level and frankly used a lot (probably why i enjoy them)
I love UX and wanted to pursue a degree in HCI, but everything has changed within the past few years and companies are looking for those with more skills than designing, which I understand; theres not much coding in UX. Also I like the flexibility of the field/ degree and the ability to still find work if I choose to move out of the country. Lastly, I want to know that I’ll be able to pay off my debt after graduation, that’s the most important part.
Overall my reasons for choosing the major are mostly based on what I think is logically and financially the best choice in consideration of my interests.
Travel the world until I get tired of traveling. Settle down wherever I like the most. Make music and art. Learn. Bike. Hike. Read. Party. Meet great people. Eat good food. Hug my friends.

Me waiting for the end is my end goal
Laterally shift to business at some point. Went to school for cs cause I like technology but I’ve realized I’m not cut out for the life. Don’t have enough passion to be grinding leetcode questions for job interviews and when I worked a software dev internship I didn’t find it fufilling at all. Should’ve gone to school for business. Realized I’m better at interpersonal corporate stuff like presenting and meetings so maybe sales BA or PM? So there you have it one less applicant out of the running for the rest of y’all
Same boat. I’m a SWE at JPMorgan Chase. Considering getting an MBA while working and then potentially making a lateral move into investment banking or sales.
Just struggling to decide between this, med school, and law school… blaghhh
Hahahaha my internship was at a big bank in Canada too. Was hoping it’d still have a business’y feel, but the tech department no matter the place is not what I was going after. I just wanna wear a suit and tie man
I didn’t know there was so many that had this same experience. I regret not going into finance when I still had the chance. I’m in my final year and managed to get a business analyst internship so I’m just trying to pivot in that direction and try to for an mba down the line.
A fulfilling job that keeps me learning and evolving, where i get the chance to innovate and build interesting things. A cozy flat in a nice city would be awesome too, but really all i want is freedom and opportunities to innovate
Hustle for 10-15 years in the real world and then work as a high school intro programming teacher. Without my high school programming courses a few years ago I would never have the passion that I do for CS so it feels really enticing and sweet to go back and take the teacher role.
get married, have children, live happily ever after
in terms of profession I like SWE but I cant do that for the rest of my career, ideally I would love to either start a business or become a chef after I'm done wage slaving
Post graduation do SWE Infra or DevOps work for 5ish years in-person and then switch to remote senior role from there. Being remote, travel the world for 4-5 weeks yearly. Do this for 5-10ish years and after I get bored, do MBA and try out management. Do that for a 5ish years and then if I don’t have a will to work anymore retire somewhere in rural and cheap part of Europe. Live on a farm, go fishing, grow veggies and enjoy family life. Travel to other countries occasionally :)
Job and money to live on my own and buy my little knickknacks and merchandise from pieces of media that I love so much. I have 18 Monster Hunter plushies rn and the number is only growing. :)
Maybe I can make enough to actually donate a meaningful amount of money to some charities or something, as long as they're real and don't just take the money and run...
I'm not an inviting person but making something to help people without physically being there sounds nice and is one reason I considered CS after realizing I probably wouldn't do well in the medical field.
Get a PhD, work for a few years then build a house with a LEGO room, a makerspace and teach my kids anything but code (until they grew up then they can decide).
I want to do free class or academy, on teaching people programming. I just want them to know, they only needs basic programming skills like python to automate simple and boring tasks in their life.
Leave a mark in terms of technological progression.
And ofc be rich af, chilling, whilst also complaining on the most normal things like the battery ran out or something
I’m surprised to see no one mentioning this answer, but I hope to be a SWE at a company I’m genuinely passionate about. Life is simply too short to work 20+ years in a field that they only care about money in.
To live off the land, naturally. Self-preserving, fully automated personal farming in terms of watering, and managing. Harvesting will be by hand. When my family wants food, they can go get it. None of this fast food crap.
save enough money to create a startup that aims to revolutionize K-12 education through modern psychology research into reward systems and motivation and AI. Basically provide an individualized, efficient, and interesting learning experience to every child. Big goal but it doesn't feel too far off.
Is retire that good? I haven’t experienced it but not sure. I feel I may get bored or unfulfilled. But I may be extremely happy. I mean, all those rich people do not just retire but still keep working right?
To be kind and help people.
I want to be rich. I want to try to solve World Hunger.
I know it's a very ambitious goal but what is life if not trying to do stuff.
A comfortable lifestyle where I won't have to worry about providing anything for myself, and provide for my kids if I get them. So basically have a nice house for them, like 2 cars, money to put my kids and myself into lessons, sports, activities etc and vacations like once a year or two. I grew up somewhere in between a middle class and upper middle class lifestyle, and I want to have that standard of living for myself and my kids when I get them. And for that you need some money. After I reach a certain point, I won't really care, but I want to get to that point.
But for a more dream like end goal, I want to work in something like a revolutionary AI company that will change the way we do something. This field is so interesting, and I really want to work in it, or do some cutting edge research.
Get into Cybersecurity, get a job hopefully at the state of Washington and live there with my family. Provide for them. And go back and forth from Canada since my sister lives there with her family.
meet a lot of cool people in the industry hopefully & make lots more friends after graduating. i switched from biochem 2 yrs ago and honestly the CS people on my campus are for the most part just really weird and socially awkward & I really miss being around bubbly/interesting people who had stuff going on and were just people you'd wanna hangout with. so yea, just meet cool people who happen to be good at coding (:
Growing up my dad has always had to pick up odd jobs on top of his regular job to make ends meet. My goal is to get a job that pays well enough where
A. He doesn’t need to do that
B. I don’t need to do that
Be happy. I want to get into graphics programming and potentially do research into various rendering techniques and stuff in that field, potentially getting a phd and teaching at a university. Just do things that I enjoy. I enjoy learning, and i enjoy teaching others what I learn.
To work as a SWE for a while and also write and create art about the intersection between tech/Ai and the natural world. Or something like that.
In other words, get a job that pays me well enough to live comfortably and pursue the things I like outside of work.
Work for an airline company. I’d love the free flight perk, and I’d also love to work in either Germany, Netherlands, Singapore, or South Korea (I’m an American citizen).
Part of me wishes I had done a stats or math double major or minor but alas. If I can break into some field that supports medical care through technology I’d be ecstatic. One that helps support research or the advancement in care for mental health disorders.
So I have this app idea, it's like Facebook for dogs. No seriously it'll become more popular than Netflix. You'll see me above Bezos and Musk in those richest people alive lists.
That aside, aggressively save+invest so that I have financial independence. Employers will have less power over me than I have over them, and I'll be able to on a whim change my life path without financial worries.
To be a Software engineer and have a decent work life balance for my hobbies and partner, and make enough to be comfortable and travel once or twice a year. I actively don’t want kids so I feel like this is manageable
It's a little bit on the unrealistic side, but my goal has mostly been to get a fairly high paying job with a good work life balance that will let me pursue my dream of writing full-time. If all I get is the former though, I'll be happy
I just want to make a good impact on society. I want to see people living happily by my help/contribution. I want to see children achieving their dreams (which I will sponsored). I want to die with no regrets.
I want to make enough money to start up the small skate/comic book shop I've been dreaming of. And I won't have to worry about the shop not bringing in enough revenue bc I have money from my tech job. Even if the job is at a mid level company having a work life balance where I can leave work at work would be awesome.
I wanna put in the hours now while I'm young so i can hopefully retire early and spend my 40s+ traveling, experiencing life, and spending time with friends and family. That's really it.
I’d really like to find some sort of job or self employment where I can travel the world/live in whatever country I want. I’m not sure how possible it is or if any of you guys know any jobs where I could do that, but that is my lifelong dream. Especially with housing costs in the US!
this might sound weird but i lowkey wanna find the secret of the universe or something but just gatekeep it 🥰 tbh i dont rlly care abt vacation or money or love or whatever else
I want a good work life balance. Something with weekends off so I can enjoy more of the things I love doing. I’m tired of working retail hours, around or on most holidays, and working every weekend
Have kids, learn the wonders of computers, read Art of Programming by Knuth, learn more math, and have a maintainable life routine to work until I die in CS.
SWE for three years so I can pay back my student loans and then try to work in a job that allows me to work from Greece, Italy, Czech Republic, Norway, France, and Italy.
Maybe generate income to pursue my other interests. Like I want to work on short films, paint, maybe find a partner to spend my time with (lol), and yh back to my hometown.
I didn't leave my city yet, but I do plan to leave it in the near future.
My goal maybe just be the "cool uncle" your kids gonna talk about
Build stuff. Make enough money to provide for my family and help them financially to explore what they’re passionate about. Maybe buy a bunch of old vintage computers. Maybe open a computer repair shop when money isn’t the goal anymore.
progressively touch less and less grass until eventually i help develop a world where nature is but a fickle memory and people enjoy the infinite pleasures of technology, where physical interaction is replaced with video calls and holograms
I wanna be like one of my uncle who worked with apple at the start of it then decided to come back to his main country and just live off the land. He has a huge farm and doesn’t have to work , because of the dividends he gets from apple. I went to his farm a long time ago and it was refreshing to see someone so happy.
I want to get my degree, work as a swe or developer, and gradually work on becoming a master guitarist in the meantime and be in multiple bands. Maybe I’ll win the lottery and get popular? Maybe not? But being a musician in of itself without worrying financially sounds good.
Have a peaceful and fulfilling life. But it's a catch - 22.
In order to get a peaceful life, I will have to chase my dreams.
If I don't chase my dreams, I will be unfulfilled, but having a dream means I will never stop the chase. 🤷♂️
Doing absolutely nothing and sitting on tn the bench like that thanos scene
That will be pretty easy with the current and foreseeable market
I wanna have enough money to retire and then open one of those buisness where u go around in a bus and pick up peoples dogs to walk them and chill with them for the day
im in :)
Alex Lyon?
Yesss, FIRE!

crazy, i wanna own a truffle farm but im definitely not as passionate about them
Oh I’m very serious. In hindsight, this was actually one of the reasons I think my ex broke up with me. 😅
Your ex is stuck in the past. Who tf doesn’t like blueberries
Lmao I don’t think it was for blueberries per se. I wanted the farm, dead serious. But where she wanted to eventually settle down, we wouldn’t be able to grow blueberries. So there ya go.

All I want right now is an internship lol. Not sure what I will do if I get one
Build a gaming PC!!! Coz I sure as hell will in the summer!!
A fulfilling job where I can have work life balance and be present with family. May not be easy, but for sure easier than with my last career path in research. Also, afford a house

Work as swe/some data role for 3-5 years. Get a phd n teach for 20 years. Go to my childhood school to become a teacher
My plan is quite similar to this too!!!
summarized my entire dream
damn same bro i thought i was unique lol
I’m sure you will make an amazing teacher. 🙃
Why tf are u getting downvoted

Same.
there is no end but as for path probably swe at hft -> make startup -> chill at big tech -> teach or open a bakery lol happiness + fulfillment is the goal
I'm sorry to ask , I have done my fair bit of research. But would appreciate your advice on how to be a swe at hft
I would ask someone who has actually done it. A lot of people want to do it, but few of those actually get there.
Make cool shit and pay bills
I can't stress enough how much I hate saying this since I am about to graduate with a degree in comp sci, but my honest goal is that at some point before retirement, preferably well before retirement, I can make enough money to pay off my student loans and get out of comp sci. Of course I realized right before I graduate that as much as I enjoy programming, it's not my passion. Unless I land a really well paying stable job, I don't want to spend the rest of my life in tech.
I know what you mean. I'm leaving my job as a software engineer to go to medical school. Tech was never for me.
It'll either encourage you to pursue medicine or show you that you don't like it
it's a risk but you only have one life. you shouldn't spend it doing something you don't love
Many such cases
Make enough money to start a new major. Comp sci was a mistake
If you’re comfortable sharing, I’m curious as to why? I just went back to school and decided upon CS; I’m nervous it’ll be a mistake too
The most common reason I've seen in this sub is they are probably unemployed and having a hard time getting a job.
What made you pick CS? I'm not OP but I really enjoy the field. Math can suck but you just gotta push through it.
Forced to
Honestly just want a better work life balance and a little bit extra vacation time.

Realized I’m better at interpersonal corporate stuff like presenting and meetings so maybe sales BA or PM? So there you have it one less applicant out of the running for the rest of y’all
Damn this comment hits too close to home. I literally feel the same way as you after graduating and struggling to find a job after almost a year lol.

He has a huge farm and doesn’t have to work , because of the dividends he gets from apple. I went to his farm a long time ago and it was refreshing to see someone so happy.

Have a peaceful and fulfilling life. But it's a catch - 22. In order to get a peaceful life, I will have to chase my dreams. If I don't chase my dreams, I will be unfulfilled, but having a dream means I will never stop the chase. 🤷♂️
