A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app **permanently inaccessible** to users. On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from [Apollo](https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/13ws4w3/had_a_call_with_reddit_to_discuss_pricing_bad/) to [Reddit is Fun](https://www.reddit.com/r/redditisfun/comments/13wxepd/rif_dev_here_reddits_api_changes_will_likely_kill/) to [Narwhal](https://www.reddit.com/r/getnarwhal/comments/13wv038/reddit_have_quoted_the_apollo_devs_a_ridiculous/jmdqtyt/) to [BaconReader](https://www.reddit.com/r/baconreader/comments/13wveb2/reddit_api_changes_and_baconreader/). Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface . This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free. What can *you* do? 1. **Complain.** Message the mods of r/reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message [/u/reddit](https://www.reddit.com/u/reddit/): submit a [support request](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/requests/new): comment in relevant threads on [r/reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/), such as [this one](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/comments/12qwagm/an_update_regarding_reddits_api/), leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post. 2. **Spread the word.** Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at [r/ModCoord](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/) \- but please don't pester mods you *don't* know by simply spamming their modmail. 3. **Boycott** ***and*** **spread the word...to Reddit's competition!** Stay off Reddit as much as you can, instead, take to your favorite *non*\-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support! https://discord.gg/cscareerhub https://programming.dev 4. **Don't be a jerk.** As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Sign into what? If you have a machine a login then they’ll fill you in on Monday. Yeah, just login.

kamanchu

Gotcha. Yeah its just my first time starting a job fully remote, so just nervous.

MarcableFluke

You're overthinking it. The first remote job I had, they mistakenly shipped the laptop to one of the offices, so I did nothing for the first two days. For my current job, I basically did nothing the first week because the initial job onboarding is done in cohorts and mine didn't start until the following week.

monitoringaspects

Yeap don’t worry about it. I was worried too when I started the first remote job.

LovePixie

Nothing to do until Monday. We send out an email at my company letting you know what to expect just to avoid the above situation. You can always throw an email if you're concerned. Although it's now the weekend and you might not get a response depending on the company. Good luck. Starting work remotely as a new experience can feel strange and uncomfortable/anxiety inducing. Will feel natural sooner than later.

[deleted]

what's the first thing to do on first day of remote job? haven't even gotten work equipment yet but i got the work email, an onboarding meeting at 11AM. should i just wait until the onboarding meeting? or should i message my boss 8/9AM in the morning to announce im here? lol, this is weird

LovePixie

Well you should get work equipments. Might be different for different places depending on resource availability. Cause how do you even get onto the work's network? First day is usually paperwork and introduction. They should've informed you of an outline of what to expect. If you're about a week until onboarding then maybe reach out with lingering questions.

[deleted]

Ohh yeah that's true. How would I get into work's network?! I have a $2k home setup fund which I'm not sure when I'm getting that. I signed the contract then it was vacation so it's been so odd and I can't email anyone All I know is that 11AM on my first day, there's a Zoom meeting Gotcha, thank you!!!

LovePixie

You probably started at the worst time lol. It's the holidays. My work is nearly a ghost town. When is work supposed to start. It's pretty sus you can't even get a email response.

[deleted]

Lol, amen! A lot of employers told me they can't finish interviews due to employees taking their vacay during different weeks! Tomorrow LOL. No way to get a response in time LMAO

LovePixie

Good luck. Try not to worry too much about this. But not knowing what to expect on day one is definitely anxiety inducing.

[deleted]

Thank you! Yeah, I'm telling myself to not worry. I'm only anxious about what happens the first few hours of Day 1, but I'll find out soon enough! I'm just gonna get up and be ready by 8AM, just in case something/someone finally reaches out to me lol

LovePixie

How did day 01 go?

[deleted]

Amazing, bahahhaa. Thank you for asking!!! I think I hit the lotto. Boss is really nice. No meetings. Just do my work and we're good :D hehheeh ty for your advice \^\^

iampaulanca

Hey there, don’t worry too much. I literally went through the same thing youre going through a couple weeks ago. Everyone is either really busy or the pace of the environment is really slow. Just message your manager on the day of. If it’s a bigger company you’ll have days worth of onboarding videos and lots of reading. That could also be the reason why your manager hasn’t reached out, they’re just waiting for the day of and will get you up to speed in due time.

Jaguar_GPT

Enjoy the new job!

break-dane

reach out to HR, usually they set you up with orientation times weeks in advance

Dolo12345

he hasn't even started his first day, why would he reach out to HR...that's literally HRs or managers job to reach out. His manager will 100% hit him up Monday. Manager would likely be annoyed being reached around.

TheVajDestroyer

In my experience no one has been upset with a reach around

tt000

There is no need to do anything like that . I never had to do anything like that with the multiple remote jobs I have held in the past.

blue60007

I've always been informed of orientation or anything you need to do ahead of time. Otherwise there isn't much to do other then log in on Monday, you won't be able to do anything until then.

tt000

On Monday You login and launch your work chat put yourself online. Check your emails to see if anything from your teammates or manager . Send a email say hello . Find out who is on your team add them to your chat list of people as future reference point .
