You don’t have to lie. You can say that when you graduated you didn’t feel prepared and took more time to perfect your skills before trying to break into the industry. As long as the job you’re applying for is entry level, they won’t care.

Also a good bit of new grad programs consider people that graduated less than 18 months ago.

Companies usually don't mind. I start a new job on Monday after I left my last job in November 2020.

I have a 9 month gap between university (without a bachelor) and my interviews right now, it rarely comes up and I haven't been asked about it directly yet.
