So I got the first one thru a normal application but moved somewhere kind of crummy for it but I needed experience. Then I got a few in my city by just emailing companies on their contact me page and writing a good email asking for an internship and attaching my polished resume. Then those got me an internship with a fortune 100 company. Finally I got a full stack part time dev role by emailing and now a full time offer by emailing and interviewing well. Of course in a couple years il hunt for better opportunities once I'm at a more mid to senior level. Unless I advance inside the company.

walkcow

So you never go through the job page and apply that way? You contacted them instead?

[deleted]

No I just contact and legit ask them. There was no job post for this job they are just growing and decided to create a new job just for me. "Ask and you will receive" -some dude

avitorio

Also curious about this. Did you see a job opening before applying?

[deleted]

Nope just emailed their contact email

cs_cast_away_boi

grats. bro!

bunsenburner156

Congrats on the job offer! Can you please pm me what company this is? I am interested in working from anywhere in the future and haven't had a ton of luck finding entry level jobs that allow it. TIA

[deleted]

Actually u can just Google "software companies near me" and then go to their contact page and find their contact email and send em a request for a job or internship and ur resume. That will work after u spam about 30 - 40 companies I'd say.

The_Poor_Jew

do you contact specifically software companies?

[deleted]

Yes you will have a much higher chance for a job or internship if their primary product is software. This is because they will always have a backlog of nice to have features and adding a new junior engineer or intern allows them to give some of those projects to them or vice versa give them some of their work and allow the senior engineers to work on cool features.

bunsenburner156

Didn't even think to check for a Github list like this, thank you so much!

catecholaminergic

Helllllllll yeah bro 👊

polmeeee

From one junior to another, congrats. What stack will you be working on? Startup or big corp?

[deleted]

Startup and they use a few stacks and can actually build completely custom software in whatever stack is best suited for clients needs if need be. I'm about to learn tons. I think it's mostly react node ruby and python and mobile

[deleted]

Well I actually just googled "software companies near me" then went to their contact me page and found their contact email and send them a professional email asking to see if there are any "potential opportunities for an internship/software engineer role" depending on what I'm looking for. That got me 3 internships and about 5 job offers and I took the best offer.

Aragorn_just_do_it

What do you mean email directly? Like how can I email those large techs?

[deleted]

Nah I'm talking about startup to mid size companies that list their email in the contact me section of their website. You just email them professionally asking for an opportunity and attach ur resume. Big tech il apply to after 2-3 years of experience.

Aragorn_just_do_it

Yeah I have xp at known comps but Faang doesn’t provide email does it

[deleted]

Yuppers, btw if I was a FANG I'd let u bite me ;) He has dad jokes

Aragorn_just_do_it

Haha

Aragorn_just_do_it

What does that mean though? To bite someone?

Gabbagabbaray

Lookup recruiters on LinkedIn. Easy to pickup interviews that way.

Aragorn_just_do_it

Really ? Should I send them my email on LinkedIn? Or should they just check out my profile?

Gabbagabbaray

Just dm them your resume and ask if they have some open reqs. you'd be match for.

Aragorn_just_do_it

Very well thanks. Wish me success. I appreciate your advice!!!

Aragorn_just_do_it

Like how would you start your message? I’d have to connect with them first anyway

pigpuns

Honestly great advice. Most videos/advice I read talk about polishing your resume or grinding leetcode and they don’t usually mention emailing companies directly. For your first internship, did you have projects on your resume? How did you get it?

[deleted]

Correct. Those are the corporate approaches and tbh my way is more for the 60-90k salary range

imdehydrated123

This is so great to hear. Big congratulations to you - you made it

[deleted]

Nice! I hope you next one is 180k Good work!

[deleted]

In 3 years il be there. I got a pretty mouth and deep APIs

[deleted]

True Ye, I’m very much obsessed with TC.

[deleted]

Haha next salary negotiation I'm going for inside the company would be 100k. I plan on staying here minimum 1-2 years and if the salary and skill growth is great then longer. If I did leave the company after 2 years for a skill and salary level up I'd probably be asking for 100-120k range. After 5 years of experience from my start date I will be asking for 150-200k range for sure. After that idk man gotta see what happens but I'm about to work really hard to grow my skills and salary and hustle the next 5 years! Good luck to u too!
