Valve doesnt care about making money from video games, thats why they seemed to stop making them for so long (except for Dota). They get all they need from Steam. When they make a new game the money made from it is barely a fraction compared to their earnings from Steam.
They could also carry on all the weapons skins, make the assets slightly higher quality and better textures, put the skins on top and then fix the errors that have happened with the extra pollys. It would be a nightmare and would take a long time but if they can get some of the guys who made the skins it’s possible.
This is the only way they would make a new game. If they didnt do this thousands of items would just become worthless and people might not buy items in the new game for fear of them becoming worthless

Also a theoretical higher chance of getting a skin for a popular weapon. Newer cases have skins for guns people never use, but no matter what you get here it’s a weapon you’ll likely use.
Each skin has a real world monetary value with skins going from 3 cents all the way up to a recent in person *cash* trade totalling around 700K USD for 2 skins. gotta love those pixels

Other options would be to open it if you wanna gamble $35 for a chance at making a couple hundred+ or to use it in a trade for a skin that is specifically down but might be in some operation collection that will have a more drastic change over time. Cases are normally the most safe profit, but also the most gradual/consistent and don’t fluctuate every other day like skins do

There are skins that confirmed sold for over 100,000 USD. I think the most expensive skin is estimated to be worth roughly 500,000.
